Suggestions for Logging on at Work?

My job has me doing (no hyperbole here) nothing from 11:30pm to 5:00am on the night shifts but unfortunately, they have a block on most web access. I was able to circumvent this for the purpose of browsing the internet but I was wondering how I would go about connecting to City of Heroes.

Anyone have any ideas?

I've even been seriously considering getting an iPhone and tethering my laptop to it for it's 3G connection but I'd have to break contract and sign a new one for that, which means I'm paying like $700.

As long as you aren't doing any patch updates, even a cheap dialup service would be enough to run the game. I'm assuming the company has more than one line, so just hijack one of them for a few hours.

-or-

Take the network administrator out to luck and introduce him/her to the game so you can get free time for a "refer-a-friend".. and maybe they will grant you access to the site/servers as well. haha

try a proxy server?

Um.. you could theoretically set up a VPN to your home and leave your computer running so you can access it via something like VNC and be able to launch CoH that way...

Though, the chances of a workplace that restricts you from web browsing allowing you to set up a VPN are slim.

Sure, give me your boss's phone number so I can inform him/her that you're wasting company resources and bypassed their filters so they can fire you.

If you are so bored at work and HAVE to play video games, get a psp or a DS. Something maybe less likely to land you in prison, <Some employers would persue that for hacking, that IS considered a security leak!> My last job I took up drawing. Much more subtle... much less likely to draw negative attention...

Loosing your job over a video game is very bad behavior...especially if you were caught playing THIS video game under those circumstances... kinda like the "your loosing everything because you are addicted to playing video games"

You really dont want your next employer to find that out...such a thing on your record would make it virtually impossible for any employer with a computer to hire you.

To avoid that kind of trouble, try a Home buisness. You can alt+Tab in between applications, and its legal.

Edit: Dont use their equipment! Chances are your activities are being monitored, Either stick to handhelds, grab a notepad and get creative, or simply look for a better job. I'm not going to buy into this attitude that its ok to break your employers rules. It can cause you more trouble than its worth.

Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.

If you absolutely, positively MUST play CoH at work, do so entirely on your own equipment, including the Internet connectivity. Plugging your stuff (even a simple dial-up modem, much less a full Ethernet connection) into their communications facilities is a big no-no at almost all companies. Get a laptop computer and a 3G wireless data service (which works through the cellphone network using a special plug-in card).

But like others have said, choosing a different, low-profile hobby to pass the time would be preferred.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I'm not going to feel bad about using my laptop at work, however, considering that the other guys here are watching movies to pass the time and there is a block on travel for the company (which is what I deal with) between the hours of midnight and 5am so the only things I'd have to deal with during those times are emergencies, which I would obviously just close the laptop to deal with.

Anyway, I think I am going to look at setting up a 3G connection. Anyone have any idea the data transfer the game requires? If I'm looking at something like 8-12 days a month x 4 hours, would I need more than 1gb?

Thanks again.
