Some Brute tips for a newbie
1. I'm currently playing an Elec/Elec Brute, because I really like the sound of /Elec. I'm an RPer, so Elec/ was a given. *shrugs* Is Elec/Elec any good? Do I need to start over?
|
2. I heard /Elec is getting a buff, which I'm glad about. The problem is, I can't find what the buff is. Could somebody please explain it? Something about a self heal, I think? |
3. It might be the fact that I'm only level 14, but I'm having a big problem with keeping my endurance and fury metre up. I've read that the endurance problem is somewhat solved when I get stamina, but are there any tips that somebody could give me on how to keep my fury up? |
Freedom: Blazing Larb, Fiery Fulcrum, Sardan Reborn, Arctic-Frenzy, Wasabi Sam, Mr Smashtastic.
1) Elec/Elec is decent. /Elec offers relatively low protection to damage, but it has a lot of other nice toys: extra recharge, a damage aura, immunity to endurance drain, very high resistance to energy damage, two powers that help recover endurance, and especially when paired with Elec/ the ability to drain enemies of endurance leaving them unable to attack. Elec/ starts out slow, but has good AoE damage and a spectacular tier 9 attack. To buttress your survivability, consider working the Fighting pool into your build. Medicine also offers a good self-heal with Aid Self, but see below.
2) /Elec is having Power Sink, the level 28 power, replaced with Energize. Power Sink is a self-buff on a long recharge that reduces your endurance consumption. Energize is a combination heal and self-buff on a shorter recharge that heals 25% of your HP (enhanceable to nearly 50%), grants 200% regeneration (also enhanceable to nearly twice that amount), and also reduces your endurance consumption.
3) To keep Fury high, attack a lot. Brawl on auto fills in your attack chain with quick attacks that build Fury, and in Issue 16 its endurance cost will be reduced to 0 so it won't cost you End to use. Unfortunately Elec/ has fairly slow attacks, so even with Brawl on auto you may not build Fury as quickly as other primaries.
Elec/Elec will do the job, but if you don't enjoy it there are many other flavors of Brute to try.

Why MA ratings should be changed from stars to "like" or "dislike"
A better algorithm for ordering MA arcs
1)2) /Elec is having Conserve Power, the level 28 power, replaced with Energize. Conserve Power is a self-buff on a long recharge that reduces your endurance consumption. Thank you very much, I really appreciate it. I have a couple more questions though.
1. How do you set Brawl to auto? >_< (Nevermind. Bubbawheat answered it while I was posting. xD)
2. Is it true that I get a respec at level 20? Does it include slots?

Heck, I have a Claws/DA Scrapper whose /DA is actually just an advanced energy shield buffered by nanites.
It's not that I have to pick it, but it's just a lot easier to think up a concept for. xD That and I couldn't think of anything else to fit with a man in a robotic suit.... SS would have worked, but I don't like the powers.
Edit: It'll be a lot easier when i16 comes out. Then I can change move colours and such for concepts. It's bad enough that I made the character's main colour yellow when Villian lightning is apparently red. -_- Should have seen that coming.

Thank you in advance for helping me figure out this great game. xD |
Make sure you are slotting your attacks with accuracy and end reduction first, then some recharge if you can spare it. Prior to L22 and SO's a brute really doesn't need to slot damage as fury will suppply all the damage boost you need. My standard slotting is 2 accuracy 1 end red DO in every attack, then in the longer recharge, higher end attacks I like to get a second end reduction and a recharge DO. Make sure you have at least one accuracy in brawl as well.
Put off slotting up your defenses until just before L22 - you get so little effect from the def and resistance DO's that it is far better off focusing on your attacks first. One end reduction DO in each toggle is enough early on.
With that slotting you will find that your end use goes way down. At this point you want to build fury with your fastest attacks + brawl and hold of on your big attacks until you have at least 50% fury (or close to it).

One thing to note is the brute seems like a tank villain side but it really isnt. It *CAN* be a tank but it requires a decent secondary to do, as far as I know /electric is not really a 'tanking' set. Its best you think of yourself as a DPS class with the possibility of tanking if things go wrong
all that may change with i16 however.
Oh yeah Keep the fury bar up. This means having to basicly leapfrog from one spawn to another while popping green insperations to keep your health up. Reason for this is the higher that bar is the more damage your going to do.

Once you DO have stamina slotted, the best way to get fury going is simply to up your difficulty. I found this out on my first brute. Bump to Ruthless (or higher!) as soon as you can handle it (that's +1 level, +1 team size for the I-16 equivalent). I find bigger fights against tougher foes make it alot easier for me to build and maintain fury.
Also, put Brawl on Autoattack. It's a great fury builder.

Wow.... Thanks guys.
Hello everyone. I started playing CoX about 2 weeks ago, and I'm enjoying every minute of it. So far, my favorite AT is Brute because I usually pick tanks in games, but I wanted to be a villain. (It was a shock when I found out Brutes are damage dealers, but I digress. They're really fun anyway.) I have a few questions to ask, but if they've been asked elsewhere I'll delete this post. I checked around, but due to lack of sleep, it probably wasn't very thorough.
