Quote:I definately agree. I've been examplaring my lvl 46 electric tank down to help some of my buddies in Praetoria with some clockwork missions of late.I would recommend Elec/SS. Energy damage is big in new content and Elec handles it like nothing else. Plus, it gets some nice exotic resists (end drain, recovery drain & slow). The recharge is just bonus.
I like Fire, but I just like Elec more for current and planned content.
The clockwork may as well be firing blanks at her for all the damage they do! And this is just an SO build at present, not got round to fitting in Set IO's or even common IO's!
Electric is pretty much designed to fend off the more exotic damage types, energy damage is its forte. -
just a quick question on this, the guide looks pretty cool, and informative for helping with my new tank, but... given the game restrictions, is 6 slotting the armours that use defence buffs going to be worthwhile now?
-
One other thing I want to point out though is I have put a few set IO's here and there, mainly for stamina recovery and regeneration. Any damage he takes he heals rather fast its not really too big an issue, and if the excrement really heads to the fan, I just hit unstoppable and pound away without mercy.
Unstoppable recharges quick as that is what 3 of its 6 slots are for. When it crashes, I just hit Dull Pain, pop a few blue insps, hit on rage and my toggles and away I go. -
That's a very good guide, I read it all the way down.
Essentially, my invulnerable tank is maxed out on all the Invulnerable powers. Except Dull Pain, I stopped at 3 as I noticed 3 common IO's for healing filled the health bar up virtually from empty.
When I began reading around and saw about soft caps and hard caps, ice caps, baseball caps, polar caps... etc... lol I began to wonder if I had built right. Looks like I haven't.
Having said that though, the amount of abuse he can absorb is utterly phenomenal, but, learning more, I feel like I have wasted slots in places where I didn't have to.
I really feel a respec coming on. -
Hey guys, just a quick question, on an invulnerable tank you got Tough Hide and Invincibility which are Defence buffs that allow your body to naturally deflect incoming attacks.
What with the defence cap, if you're about to ding 50, and you happen to have a respec handy, how many slots do Tough Hide and Invincibility need to function to their full effect?
Cos at the moment, I got both six slotted, which I've been told is a waste of slots, and apparently, 4 at most in each for defence enhancements would suffice. -
It wouldn't be as kick and sort of martial art orientated as Martial Arts, I see it more like a kind of, Indiana Jones kind of fighting effort.
Hook Punch
A right or left hook for minor smashing damage.
Gut Buster
A kicking attack straight into your opponents gut. For moderate smashing damage.
Eye Poke
A quick poke into your opponents eyes for minor lethal damage. Eye Poke blinds your foe and reduces their accuracy.
Anger Surge
Unleashing your anger greatly increases the amount of damage you deal for a few seconds, and increases your chance to hit slightly.
Face Breaker
A brutal headbutt straight into your opponents face for high damage that will usually knock your foe down.
Confront
Challenges a foe to attack you. Useful for pulling an enemy off a weaker hero.
Sucker Punch
You point in the opposite direction diverting your foes attention, when he turns back you deliver a crushing punch to the side of his head. Which can stun your foe momentarily.
Frenzy Blows
You go round in a frenzy viciously kicking and punching at all nearby enemies for moderate smashing damage.
Head Smasher
You grab the targeted enemy and with all your strength shove his head into the floor.
Brawling. What ya reckon? -
With that metal armour idea, that would open it up to damage enchancements too.
-
All that is great stuff, thanks guys.
Much appreciated. -
When I asked the question, what I was thinking at the time was essentially, when I hit 50, I will have reached the big level. After which I will no longer earn XP for myself, therefore, how does one get XP debt, if they no longer require XP?
Unless at 50 you still get an XP for each enemy killed, it just doesn't get stored like it does from 10 to 49? -
How does a level 50 get XP debt when they don't earn XP anymore?
(If this is a stupid question sorry.)
-
I have to say, I prefer Dominators over Controllers due to the secondary punches.
And I favour Corrupters over Blasters due to the more diverse secondary options. -
I think I need to play the villain side more, I did start out with villains, but got lured to Paragon City by my friends who were on the blue side pretty much exclusively. So there was always somebody there to team with.
I never think I got to give the villain side a chnace so we'll have to change that.
Im not going to think of myself as an arachnos lackey, more like a willing puppet with his pair of scissors at the ready for when the time is right. -
I was teaming with a Cold Domination Defender and he kept putting Ice Shield on me. I was the highest lvl character, and I was running my invulnerable tanker, who can take a right beating anyway.
Now, it kinda does have that translucent look about it, and because my character was pretty much the biggest on the team, he looked like a walking iceberg. So I sent him a message saying pretty much...
"You don't need to take time to keep putting iceshield on me my man, my defence is maxed anyway."
And he came back with...
"Well it all helps and it doesn't cost me anything to apply it and its no hassle at all."
I didn't have the heart to tell him that I didn't want it the shield looked a bit fugly. So I just ignored it and kept on tankin'. -
Charged Brawl you have to take, naturally not your best attack but you get bruising.
Havoc Punch, I like this attack, suitably slotted seems to deliver quite a wallop for both smashing and energy damage.
Jacobs Ladder, strictly energy, very short range, doesn't seem to do the cone thing very well, often seems to only hit the target you are shooting at. Im thinking this is a skipable one, doesn't seem to have much damage unless investing multiple slots.
Taunt, totally unskippable, its essential.
Thunder strike, amazing AoE very powerful wallop for the one receiving it, bowls multiple enemies onto their backsides, looks cool too with the Matrix Style rise into the air followed by the crashing Thud!
Build up, wouldn't say its skipable personally, best used before Thunder Strike or Lightning Rod. Kapow!!
Chain Induction, useful for a tank surely, as it hits multiple enemies. But does it really pack that good a punch on a tanker?
Lightning Clap, AoE, sends the baddies flying. Very similar to the handclap in super strength. Useful to buy you some breathing room to down a few insps if you are taking a beating. Disorients and taunts all who are hit.
Lightning Rod, how could anybody skip this beast? Wham bam, was that a truck just hit me? Kind of power is this! I love it.
What do you guys think? What are the skipable ones if any? -
Can I just ask, not being rude, but, without all the fancy numbers and acronyms... if one of you, my learned colleagues, could explain for me in, complete and utter buffoon terms (thats me), what this softcap and hardcap is you speak about?
-
Just a thought, if there is another tanker on the team and he/she also fires off their tier 1 in addition to yours, does that mean that enemy has just lost 40% of their damage resistence?
-
Hello all, not sure if I have posted this in the right spot, but, lets give it a go. I just wondered what you prefer playing and why?
I feel I am definately more on the hero side, because it all feels very heroic, to me the villain side, which I have not given much use in all truth, doesn't feel... that villainous. I think its me.
I am still new to the game, only played since October, so, I might be getting something very wrong here. Anybody got experiences with the villain side that could help a newbie along to find his villainous streaks? -
Thanks for the very detailed reply, and for sparing the theatrics.
You are right, Going Rogue was the thing that pulled me to the game, the whole alternate reality thing, true comic book stuff that. I had played before, had some characters on a friends account, but, now I got my own, and love the game.
Was most informative. I guess this is one of those things I will have to keep my fingers crossed for in future. -
I was thinking about this and I came to the conclusion that while all the MM sets look cool, they are all the same. This has probably been discussed to death before, but... it kind of irks me somewhat the option isn't there.
Im not talking about building your henchmen to the same degree you build the actual MM themselves, but I think it would pretty good if you could just choose from a selection of body parts and colours.
Head
Body
Legs
For each you get a choice of looks. Obviously with the character creation you get macro and micro management to truly get that unique look. But with pets it should be more of a macro manage only. So you can have different looks and colours for each of your tiers.
You can rename each pet. Why not give your pets a different look from default? -
Well I have experimented with Tankers, I rather enjoy the tanking role I find it somewhat exhilerating to see myself surrounded by enemies all keen for a piece of me. I have ran 3 tanks so far.
Electric, this was my first, it had good all round resistance to everything I found. The only negative was there was no actual defence, which means most of the time the hits are connecting, rather than being deflected. But with the support of a Defender, an electric tank can do wonders. I stuck with it, and later in the game now, said Tanker is lvl 39 pushing on 40. I have got power sink now, and its well slotted, so I just literally steal the baddies endurance before they can fire off their big nukes. Handy. Also Power Surge is unbelievably impressive and recharges quite fast. Its combo'd with War mace, and I can say this Tanker at least IMHO functions more like a heavy duty scrapper rather than a tanker, she can one shot a minion (not counting my tier 1 to bruise them.)
Stone, this was my second. Now, I don't think I gave stone a fair crack, I never really appreciated, given my newness to the game just how good it can be. Stone is rather a late starter, and you don't see the fruits till the higher levels. Plus I was irked by the slowness of it, and so that led me to try...
Invulnerability. Which I am currently using on 2 tanks, one is in Praet going villain, and the other is blue side already pushing on level 37 (the tank has blue skin as well). I once saw a level 50 Invulnerable tank in action, tanking 5th Column who were at level 54 and coping with almost effortless ease, there were 5 of us in the mission, and the mobs were set for an 8 man team. After seeing that, my immediate reaction was... "I want one!"
I do want to try a stone Tanker again, because they do genuinely look very cool, but I think it will be a while before I build another Tank. I seem to be acrueing tanks and Masterminds more than any other AT. -
What is the best Primary power a tanker can choose for sheer ability to take a beating and still stand without having to go tier 9 on your primary?
-
Sorry if this is a stupid questions but learning acronyms was never my forte, but what does AV mean?
Also, thanks very much for the reply. Cleared up many questions I had. -
Hey guys, would anybody be willing to explain the difference between these for my next tank?
As I understand it, resistence refers to the characters ability to handle a hit of whatever description.
Defence refers to the chances of an attack successfully connecting on your character and thus causing injury.
Is this about right? -
If you ask me, Electric Melee is a seriously good set for AoE's. Got some awesome AoE's in it. And it packs a wallop of smashing + energy damage.
-
Quote:That's quite good, will certainly make soloing when I can't find a group less of a headache.Yes, it will cut RESISTANCE by 20%, just to clarify from Defense. It will make your attacks do more damage for the next 10 seconds, but will do nothing to your chances to hit.
Sorry for muddling up defence and resistance, I do that a lot.
