Debt @ lvl 50?

How does a level 50 get XP debt when they don't earn XP anymore?

(If this is a stupid question sorry. )

You may not be able to collect XP but you can still pay off debt to earn badges.

That depends on just what you mean by asking the question.

If you mean "how do you gain it at 50," then you get debt at 50 the same way you gain it from 10 to 49: get your face wrecked. If you're trying for a debt badge, I would suggest one of the Hamidon zones. Get yourself splattered, go to the hospital, repeat.

If you mean in more of a philosophical/lore sense, then that would require defining what debt means in the first place. And I have very little idea what it's supposed to represent outside of the obvious mechanical purpose.

When I asked the question, what I was thinking at the time was essentially, when I hit 50, I will have reached the big level. After which I will no longer earn XP for myself, therefore, how does one get XP debt, if they no longer require XP?

Unless at 50 you still get an XP for each enemy killed, it just doesn't get stored like it does from 10 to 49?

When you die at level 50 you still get debt. When you kill an enemy at level 50, you earn XP. This xp is applied first to any debt which you might have, then any XP which is left over is discarded, because you are at the level cap. The whole mechanic exists so that you can continue earning credit towards debt badges even at level 50 if doing so is important to you (and it is to a lot of villains, since they need one of the debt badges to get an accolade).

Once you hit 50 you will no longer earn any XP, rather you will double your influence earning, unless you’re in Super Group mode, in which case you’ll earn slightly less influence to go along with the prestige you earn for your SG.

At 50 like all other levels after 10 if you take too much damage you are defeated, should you be defeated you get debt which needs to be paid off like all other debt. During this time you will earn far less influence until you’ve paid off this debt.

So if you don’t care about influence, debt at 50 means nothing other than a means to another badge.

I know what you are trying to ask... and I'm trying to figure out the best way to answer.

I think the best answer is this: The EXP / reward system does not change when you hit level 50

You still gain experience at level 50, but you just are not shown the amount of experience, and nor is it accumulated towards another level: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Experience

You do not move to some new section of code implemented just for level 50 rewards. All that happens at level 50 is that the experience amount is converted to additional influence: http://paragonwiki.com/wiki/Debt

Does that answer your question?

the other reason for debt at level 50 is to give you a penalty to the influence/infamy rate at which you earn from enemy defeats.

Related question - I was gone for several months and missed the i19 launch. My first death with a level 50 after returning gave me debt. Am I remembering wrong that level 50's used to continue earning patrol exp? Could have sworn they did before but it wouldn't be the first thing I've 'misremembered' since my return.

Level 50's still continue to earn Patrol EXP, but any earned Patrol EXP will go to removing stored debt, rather than advancing the character or providing an influence bonus.

So yes, if you log out with debt on a level 50, Patrol EXP will remove that debt.

You also do not 'bank' PXP on 50s. So you'll never see the light blue PXP part of your XP bar until they raise the XP cap. (So very unlikely at this point as to be laughable.) When you log out, whatever debt you have is erased point for point by PXP earned, until there is no more debt left. After that, PXP stops; you do not accrue PXP.
