  1. With the proper IOing, any tank in the game can be viable for any of the content...

In other threads I have seen magical slotting done to make stone tankers in Granite run around about 20mph and have a little recharge and base damage besides...

In other threads I have seen (and made) elec/ tanks that can and do waltz through Incarnate Trials/Apex/Tin Mage/Lady Grey/Statesman/Lord Recluse end game content and be amazingly fast and mostly impregnable to everything but Toxic Damage.

My main toon, my first 50, Invul/Energy tank Beorn (Virtue) has tanked everything in the game save the Shadow Shard task forces and villain content (being resolutely a hero) and has done so (relatively) cheaply.

My fire tank, Electric Briquette, obscenely slotted and IOed, can tank 2-3 Lts. on the Statesman Task Force, but the amount of inf I've had to spend to get him there would build 3 willpower tanks fully decked and better in spite of it. So, your mileage may vary.

When Super Reflexes gets to tankers, I think you could give that a whirl. I have a SS/SR brute that, when he had only SOs, was capped to melee, 1% from capped ranged and 3% from AoE defense. Now, he is over 48% on AoEs and in the low 50s for melee (never know with Incarnate trials). However, IF he gets hit, he really feels it.

    Good luck!

    Is that 21?

Back in MY day... When I used my ol' Apple ][+ with the staggering 48 Kb of RAM, we wouldn't put UP with this anti-fruit sentiment!!!

Honestly, Mac/PC, character generator, store, the current issues that have royally [pancaked] both the playing experience and the gaming ability of many...

They are all valid reasons to keep the live launch of CoH:F shelved until the issues are resolved...

As far as I'M concerned, let them delay until they can bring out Street Justice as well... I have every intention of having a hero-brute Street Justice toon as my main on the VIP server!!!
  3. Kheldians don't get Epic pools, but SoAs have always gotten them.
  4. So NOW it seems I can't even get on the game through the NCSoft Launcher. I can still go directly to the game from the old CoH launcher, but I expect they'll put a stop to that before long.

C'mon NCSoft, what are you doing?
  5. This buggy crud had better get fixed come launch...
  6. Player on Virtue/Victory/Freedom/Union and I can attest to all of that. Pretty much since the lave patch on the 25th I've had slower frame rates, choppier graphics.

I checked the drivers for my graphics card, my modem, router, my service provider... THEY were all fine.

    So... I wonder what's up...
  7. Just did a Lambda a few hours ago. We started with 16 (then 1 quit 2 minutes in, not DC, but quit [whatever]) then went to 15 then we started having a series of "rolling disconnects." If ANYONE on the remaining 15 (then 14) didn't DC at least once, then that was news to me. I DCed only once, and thankfully it was during a lull between the lab/warehouse and Marauder.

This can't just be on the Freedom server, can it?
  8. These past 2 days have been the buggiest, glitchiest, disconnecting-est days I've had on CoX in memory.

I DCed on the same mission, at the same spot, 3 times in a row yesterday.

My Team/League UI disappears for several minutes at a time on incarnate trials and I DCed on each trial (Keyes, BAF, Lambda) once, once, and three times respectively.

I fell through a ferry door and just kept falling and falling. My pocket D teleporter didn't seem to work to try and get out of that.

/stuck doesn't seem to work anymore.

Now, I understand that there are many things that the devs have to do to get everything hunky dory for CoH:F to go live...

But, does that include making everything worse on the live servers?

Just a heads up to when things will be back to a standard level of buggyness would be cool...
  9. For me, I suppose that I'd try for Master of for the BAF with the characters I play with regularly, but to try for a Master of Lambda OR Keyes requires a bunch of planning that I have not yet done.

For the Lambda, I prefer the lab (I know it better, and the characters I play I can [mostly] run the circuit without worrying about getting gacked), and I like getting the turrets. I know there are folks who do not, but for the new people, that exp will help them unlock their incarnate slots that much faster.

Also for the Lambda, I prefer to leave ALL DOORS open until the 18 minute mark and then close them all. ALL... You get your 30 reinforcements quickly and just as quickly ensure no further interruptions in your beat down of Marauder. WHY NO ONE listens when the leader makes his/her instructions on the doors is beyond me. If the leader prefers to leave 3 doors open for the remainder of the trial, I endeavor to make sure only 3 doors are open.

On the Keyes, I've taunted AM and kept him busy, but with most of my incarnate trial characters, I have some form of damage aura, so that needs to be turned off straigt away. Also, I've always known I could get a Bunker Buster Badge with every Keyes trial league I've played in, but for some reason it's never come up for discussion.

    Other ruminations?
  10. I have hard the same... My Mids Fu is weak, but I've been trying to think about what toon to make on the VIP server, and Brute keeps coming up. I KNOW I want a Street Justsice Primary, but on the secondary, now after seeing how poorly FA handles Energy and how expensive it is to get S/L resists above 70%, for sheer survivability and fun, Invul or Electric are my 2 choices.
  11. How has this thread gotten to 18 pages? Kill it with FIRE!

Can we get a SS/FA Brute out of the AE for a moment please?
  12. Brutes have the same resist cap as tanks (90%), but it takes more work to get there.

Consider Mids for a moment. In one example, we get a Shield Defense/Electric Melee Tank and an Electric Melee/Shield Defense Brute. Same numbers, right?

    Nope.

Without Tough, Weave, Combat Jumping, Hover, Maneuvers or any other defense or resist adds, the numbers for are, 1 slot, unfilled, in each of the Shield
    BRUTE
    Defense:
    Melee: 15%
    Ranged: 15%
    AoE: 15%
    Resistance:
    Smashing: 11.3%
    Lethal: 11.3%
    Fire: 11.3%
    Cold: 11.3%
    Energy: 11.3%
    Negative: 11.3%
    Toxic: 11.3%
    Psionic: 0%
    TANK
    Defense:
    Melee: 20%
    Ranged: 20%
    AoE: 20%
    Resistance:
    Smashing: 15%
    Lethal: 15%
    Fire: 15%
    Cold: 15%
    Energy: 15%
    Negative: 15%
    Toxic: 15%
    Psionic: 0%

Are these huge numbers? At this level, no, but in the end game the difference can be significant. Just to see for yourself, take your tank's power sets and put them in Mids as a brute and see the difference. Yes, Fury means dropping foes faster, but you have to spend more inf on a brute than a tank for resist and defense.

The damage numbers cannot be underestimated either: 300% for a tank (I keep seeing 400% written, but it is 300% on my tanks) versus 775% for a brute.

Nor can the max hitpoints: Tank (3434) Brute (3212.7)

The brute is tougher than a scrapper, surely. And, here is where the scrapper thing falls short. Brutes have a taunt aura and scrappers do not. Brutes have taunt (single target) whereas Scrappers have confront (much weaker). If you want to do something SORT OF like a scrapper but you want to do so infront of your teammates, then you can do so as a brute.

I love tankers. I love scrappers. I love brutes. All have their uses, their advantages and their drawbacks. You just need to see if these affect the game for your playstyle.

    Good luck!
  13. Before I post my methods of running a BAF or a Lambda (I've never run a Keyes before. As a matter of fact, I've BEEN in 4, 2 successful [both on Freedom by the way]), I would like to hear how the good denizens of Freedom prefer it.

Now, since we have undoubtedly gone through a few of these together, and there is much crossing of technique, I'll refine my question thusly:

How do you run the BEST BAF?

How many runs does it take for YOU to run a MoBAF?

How do you run the BEST Lambda?

How many runs does it take for YOU to run a MoLambda?

WHAT is the BEST way to complete (successfully) a Keyes, as done on Freedom?

    Ready?

    GO!

THIS! Yeah, what he said! I mean, The Green Mile was an amazing Tour de Force, but one good gig does not a career make.
  15. Okay, next question. Dinged 50 a bit ago, did the incarnate arc, and I have already done a BAF and a Lambda.

What Alpha should I get? Endurance is not, allegedly, supposed to be an issue with */Elec brutes, so I guess not Cardiac. Even with Nerve at tier 4, the defense bonus won't get me closer to the soft-cap than just making a small purple insp overkill.

So, that leaves Musculature (and what non-SS Brute can ever dream of hitting the 675%+100% damage cap without going through red insps like Rick James through bumps of powder) or Spiritual (and, in my opinion, a build heavier on survivability suffers a bit on recharge).

Which is it? Or, should I go with Cardiac or Nerve? Anybody?
  16. Lately I have been doing a lot of iTrials with a heavily IOed and incarnated out Fire/Elec tank. Electric Briquette gets warnings ALL the time. I have been sequestered 5 times in a BAF, 2 of them stacked by the AVs. On this particular run, I didn't get anyone else stuck in my rings because I would leap to the other side of the AVs on the tennis court or I would retreat to the opposite side of the tennis netting.

It doesn't seem to matter, I do decent damage, I have, apparently a 9,000,000,000% threat level, and when I see another person get that second warning, I taunt the AV onto myself.
  17. I switched to 2 efficacy adapters in power sink, plus a Perfect Zinger Psi damage proc. It was on the Freedom server. He is level 48 as of 1am this morning, so I don't even have power surge yet. I am not a big fan of KB either, since my main toon on Freedom is a Fire Tank (I have 3 points KB from PvP IOs, then the BotZephyr KB and the Steadfast KB for good measure).

Thanks everyone again. If anyone has any builds to post, I'd love to see them!

Thanks! Though, I could be wrong, but it almost seems as if the secondary Mu color is a kind of pink...
  19. This is a damn cool idea. Pity I don't have a protector toon at 35. This needs to be franchised!
  20. I see there being 16, not 14, since Soldiers and Widows have the 2-way paths (Warshades and Peacebringers, I realize, have 3, but they aren't really as separate in concept as in playstyle, IMHO). If it is underlined, I have at least one at 50.

    1) Brutes [I like the smash and pummel thing]
    2) Tankers [From my days playing other MMOs, I always liked tanking]
    3) Widows [I love them, though they are gimped in PvP]
    4) Warshades [fluffy doom, perma eclipse, stuff to do, always fun!]
    5) Scrappers [see #1, but even if hitting hard, GETTING hit hurts]
    6) Soldiers-Crab [Tank/Mage of old, and Suppression is so fun!]
    7) Dominators [CAN get in there, but dies fast, still, enjoyable]
    8) Soldiers-Bane [slow, overpowered stalker or weak sneaky scrapper]
    9) Corruptors [I've enjoyed it once, but other times not so much]
    10) Stalkers [I am just not a really sneaky person I guess]
    11) Masterminds [Standing back directing troops isn't my bag]
    12) Blasters [I prefer getting in there and scrappin' it out]
    13) Peacebringers [they seem both weaker and stronger than WS, meh]
    14) Controllers [Just not for me]
    15) Defenders [I have never gotten the hang of them I reckon]
16*) Fortunatas [never made one, so, last by default]

The vast majority of my 50s are tanks/brutes/scrappers/widows. My favorite method of play is just getting in there and hacking/taunting/stabbing/pulverizing stuff til it drops, while oftentimes preventing same said activities from happening to my team mates.
  21. I was on a Lambda a while back where I saw a SS/Elec Brute solo the Warehouse. Now, they didn't get all the crates before the other team was done, but as I recall they did get 5 of them.

I was blown away, and if I had the presence of mind, Id've asked them for some build advice...

Anyway, my 60 month vet came and went, and I put the extra slot in Freedom and rolled up an Elec/Elec Brute for a tech/cyborg concept character. He just hit 44 this morning (bouncing from Burke to Tarikoss to Mortimer to Silver Mantis to the Midnighter arc to Scirocco's patronage then doing my tips to get rogue).

This is what I have come up with so far. The Kinetic Combat, Reactive Armor, Oblits and Gaussian's (along with the Numina and Miracle procs) make this a not cheap toon, but no purples or PvP IOs still puts him at 1 purple insp from the soft-cap on S/L.

    Anything else I can do?

Thanks in advance, and I really want to make him an end-game player. Also, on a completely cosmetic note, how do I tint his electrical armor and attacks to look like the Mu fences and ball lightning? I want the appearance to remain constant throughout, and since we cannot tint patron or ancillary powers (yet), I want to make everything look uniform.

    Thank you again!
  22. I saw a SS/ELA solo the Lambda warehouse the other day. We had already gotten the Emp Merit, and this was sort of a lark.

They got 6 of the crates before the other team was done and went to go help.

As I recall, they went to go and get Nightstar and Siege too... The towers were barely a blip on their health bar.

If Id've thought about it, I would have asked for some pointers or build advice...
  23. what is your goal with this build?

THIS is a heck of a build! I wanted to spend more time than not in Granite, but not at the expense of having snails and tortoises shouting "hey, speed it up buddy!"

    Thanks for the post JakHammer!
  25. If inf is not a problem, I suggest this build:

    http://www.cohplanner.com/mids/downl...8EF13F2F00F15E

102.5% recharge before hasten, ageless, and the foot stomp proc.
You have a good speed for consume, which if you keep ageless on auto, you won't need all that often.
Rage will stack, and you are 1 small purple insp from the soft-cap for fire.
Yes, the fire resist is overkill, but that is to be expected with the purple sets.
This build is billions and billions of inf, and might be too much for such a finite use (ONLY AE afterall), but you can swap out other things to make it more palatable for you. For instance, by that point, you might want to drop temperature protection and put it into something else, and then use the cardiac alpha, which will bet you exactly to 90% fire resist, but decrease your endurance dramatically. Then, however, you'll be eating red insps instead of purple ones.
I don't think you'll cruise near the damage cap of 750% for a brute, but eat enough red candy and you'll at least see it.
If you are PLing, Vengeance means not beeding those purple insps, but one can never be certain that you will have Veng bait all the time.
