Or just upgrading of the computers only?

They said the VIP sneak peak date is soon to be announced, but didn't specify the announcement would be ahead of the event.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

I'm not sure it would make very much sense to launch the issue headstart, then announce it after.

All indications point to September 1st as the original target launch date. Then some problems came up so it isn't anymore.

This maintenance is to facilitate hardware upgrades for all the Live City of Heroes servers.

Seems pretty cut-and-dry to me.

We've been having a lot of these extended maintenance windows lately, and Zwillinger warned us to expect a few more. Something to do with hardware upgrades in preparation for Freedom. We should also probably not expect any real patch notes other than "Stability changes" or "Performance changes," as that's what they've been doing for a while noww.

I kind of want to hope this is Freedom since, you know, I want it, but the Zombie has a point - with a head start planned and a promotion this big, a surprise launch just isn't an option. If they haven't made an announced, that ain't it.

Oh, well. I've been meaning to start a human revolution. Might as well do it now that I can't play City of Heroes.

They've learned not to do a release on a Thursday before a holiday weekend. The last one was bad, so very bad. I'd guess two more weeks at the very least.

Unless more bug fixes have happened then what's been listed in the patch notes, I really have little desire to play the live version of what's on beta.

Thats not i21.

Trust me when they are ready to release it, the whole world will know when and what time.

Take your time Devs.

Issue 21 today would be sweet for VIP head start.

Zwillinger said in the last ustream that the release date was planned to be the 1st but they had problems with some of it and they did not want to launch unless everything was working properly.

There have been serious clues for weeks that the original "planned" launch date for Issue 21 was going to be sometime this week. I figured August 30th (being a Tuesday) was most likely, but September 1st was just as likely (and now confirmed) given the latest evidence.

At this point it's virtually 100% certain it won't happen before the Labor Day weekend. That makes September 6th pretty much earliest possible date now. But depending on what they need to do to fix the remaining problems that caused the delay it seems much more realistic that September 13th is now the earliest we should be expecting it.

Just in time for college! As if I didn't need any more distractions

Yeah I don't think it's launching today but this week seems like a possibility depending..

There have only been two issue releases on Thursdays, and only one before a holiday weekend (which was Issue 6/CoV Headstart, and the "holiday" that following Monday was just Halloween).

Issue 6's launch went relatively smoothly. The horrible one was Issue 2, and there was no associated holiday weekend involved, just an ordinary one. :P

And, as others have noted, all evidence points to today (a Thursday) being the original planned launch date of Freedom. Obviously, that's not going to be the case now.

Those references have since been removed; the CoH FB page is back to the way it was yesterday.

Thankfully I'm old enough that the Internet was barely a glint in Al Gore's eye as I was finishing up my run through college. I frankly couldn't imagine trying to juggle school now with the wonderful distractions the Internet provides today. Good luck resisting the temptations.

All signs point to "no."

Well, we have at least two instances of red names on record as promising that it wouldn't be released until a critical issue was fixed.

One was the mac client crashing when trying to access the store.

The other was the store showing things you've already bought and letting you buy them again. *

Both of those issues still exist on beta. We'll see if they actually keep their word on these, but given how critical those issues are, I think they will.

* Hmm, I can't seem to find a link for that one. I KNOW I saw it, though. It might have been Positron in the Aug 4 ustream broadcast, I'll have to go rewatch it.

There has been too much promotion, too much discussion, too much planning to just Ninja Launch this issue. We'll get a good heads up warning of when it's coming.

Ninja launch please?
