  1. Congratulations on a job well done! Impressive use of the powers/accolades you've earned. Don't pay any attention to the naysayers.

By the way, what program did you use to record your (successful) attempt?
  2. This set is a GREAT idea! I would TOTALLY roll one of these up ASAP!

    This needs to happen.

Now, if we could just get an armor that looks like chain instead of the Roman or medieval plate stuff...

Here is what I have so far (the purple is wishful thinking):

Attacks are not the only powers you can slot recharge bonuses in. They are convenient for doing so, but Luck of the Gambler: Global Recharges give the most recharge bonus per slot. The build above did not use them, and that means you have to make up 37.5% recharge bonus elsewhere.

You also have to consider the rule of 5's. You can not benefit from more than five identical set bonuses in PvE. In addition to the rule of 5's, purple sets are unique and you can only slot one of each type.

Taking several single-target attacks and slotting them with 5% recharge bonus from Crushing Impact is the least efficient way to gain recharge bonus. Targeted AoE attacks give 6.5% recharge bonus for 5 slots of Positron's Blast. Many of the sets that people rarely use are great for recharge bonus, too. Just look at the taunt sets and to-hit debuff sets.

If you think you can turn the above build into something decent, go ahead and try. If it doesn't gimp any important powers or drain endurance excessively fast, I will post a complete build based on my template. Then, we can see which is better.
Yeah, I use LotGs for ALL of my characters, and depending upon if they need the defense or not, I get them either at 50 or at lvl 25 (to exemplar as low as possible). I am also aware of the rule of 5, and I love using the little known IOs for recharge, but the problem is this AT set can't really benefit from Cloud Senses or Dark Watcher's Despair (and I chose Energy Mastery over Pyre Mastery for concept, so no Basilisk's Gaze in Char for the easy 7.5% recharge bonus there).

If I could afford 5 purple sets, I'd get them, but again for concept I did not choose Hurl (Praetorian Pugilist is a boxer, and I even use the alternate animation in Foot Stomp for him punching the ground) so I am really limited to 2-3 of the purple sets anyway.

    Lol
I thank you for the Mids info. I suppose what I need to know is, for the defensive powers (both the toggles and the passive), do I really get everything and choose Elude as my "oh crap!" power at lvl 49? Praetorian Pugilist is almost lvl 48, so I CAN start IOing him out now, and I've got a spare 400 mill I can use to effectively get him ready for Incarnate stuff (and then respec and reslot as I get the cash). For concept I am probably going to slot boxing since he uses it. Hell, I might even drop an extra slot in brawl A) for concept and B) it does keep fury going.

Thank you all, the information on this forum is always golden!

    SS/SR help?

I was looking at the SS/SR guides and none have been updated since around issue 12, and especially since the inherent fitness...

I keep hearing that you can soft-cap defense easily with super reflexes by simply getting one additional defensive pool power (like weave for example or combat jumping or hover), but my search-fu is weak.

In a nutshell, how can one get to 45% ranged/melee/AoE on an SR build without using IO sets in attacks (since I'd kind of like to get as much recharge out of the build as I can for rage to stack as often as possible)?
  6. My Crab spider took Leviathan Mastery, and, I gotta tell you, Venom Grenade followed by Bile Spray is just beautiful! And who doesn't like how cool (and how wide an arc of attack) Suppression is?
  7. THAT is why I made 2 separate spider builds. I didn't want the backpack if I wasn't going to use it. I realize that some thought this silly, or a waste of time, but it was my time to waste.

Crab Spider Beorn is, as his name implies, a crab. Huntsman Beorn I misnamed but I am not going to spend the 10 bucks to call him Bane Beorn. He'll just have to deal. He's got a big nasty mace; he can cope.

My colors were sort of an homage to spiderman (deep blues and reds) for both builds. I don't know why... But honestly the Bane spends most of his time in Roman Lorica.
  8. I would PvP and purple out my favorite builds, and then I'd probably start doing more farming/crafting and making stuff for my other friends who can't play as much.

And, I would add enough prestige to my hero-side SG base (for just me and my alts) to have a Teleport room with all the portals covered.
  9. It is fine the way it is... Hey, why don't we bring the others up than knock Ion down. After all, it is an Incarnate's judgement.
  10. To be completely honest, one of the reasons I did not make a scrapper, regen or otherwise, is because I sort of wanted to do something different. Half of my 50s (only 8 I know, but I like them) are melee builds (tank, scrapper, widow, bane). Of the other 4, 2 are what you might call mid-range (the WS and the MM), and of the 2 long range toons, the crab is more of an AoE platform. Only the corruptor is anything like what I created for PvP. And HE is unoriginal too since he is a fire/dark corr (and EVERYONE has one of those...).

As I said above, the Psi/En.M blaster build I have is wickedly good in PvE. He can solo red bosses at lvl 12 and I don't need to use an insp for much of anything (yet). I also have not enhanced him at all (I tend to wait until a build reaches 22 so I can just go straight to slotting SOs), so I am just having fun with the concept.

I realize that I have come WAY late to this party. But, I thought, since the lights were still on, maybe I could come and die with y'all for a bit.
  11. I think the Sutter is fun, and correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the optional things actually purposeful? I was led to believe that if you complete ALL of the optional goals there are additional merits in it for you...

    35 hero merits each!?

So, 2 and a half months of running 5 tip missions a day and the occasional 6th (11th) for the morality mission...

    OR

Doing the same for half that time, but running enough TFs to get the merits and inf required to buy the hero merits at 50 merits + 20,000,000 inf each.

That REALLY seems to me as if the Devs didn't want someone to get a PvP recipe; anyone to get one really...

assuming getting 18 H/V merits via tips and buying 17 via merits and inf, one PvP recipe would cost 850 merits and 340,000,000 inf AND roughly 50 hours of playing/TF-SFing/Farming.

    Ugh, I'd rather roam Warburg...

  14. Cool! I will look around. I never knew about the PvP button on Mids... I'll have to check and see how my current "big toons" would look.

Well, I deleted a character on Virtue and re-rolled a Psi/EnMelee blaster yesterday afternoon. He's just lvl 11, so he's not able to enter any of the zones yet. But I gotta say the platform just ripped through the PvE content (at the lower level). The recharge reductions and the KB really kept him alive when things started getting hairy.

    Um, what is "heal decay"?

  16. Salve, Quid agis?

Seriously, Hi there, how are ya?

So, I used to say I've played this game since beta... My original forum name (along with that first screen name) were registered WAYYYY back in mid-2004. I've gotten various ATs and EAT/VEATs to 50. I've unlocked every incarnate possible so far. I don't hunt for badges, but through the course of the game my "main" character has almost 600 of the suckers, just from doing stuff.

I reckon you could say I've done almost everything.

    almost

The one thing I have always, ALWAYS avoided was PvP. Maybe it was because I never understood it, or maybe because I never ran with people who did it, or MAYBE it was because when I was playing CoH AND EQ2 I always played tanks (or Guardians) and I never had the DPS to win at dueling so I thought, "this is stewpid..."

Well, I am tired of being a wuss about this...

I have read through the PvP forum posts and threads and, apart from a stunningly and almost embarrassingly neglectful stance on PvP by the Devs from day 1, I haven't grokked a damn thing.

I never thought of myself as dense, but I am not getting the message.

It SEEMS that PvP has a core of die-hard fans who, counter-intuitively, HELP each other get badges, go through content in PvE together, spread the PvP IO wealth...

    So, why the bad rap?

I hear of servers being "dead" but I am not sure which ones. I read of this toon being uber-733t or that one being the FOTM primary/secondary, but there seems to be an abundance of play-styles. I ask my PvE friends for advice and not one of them really had much to say, except something along the lines of:

"oh, no.... I never go in there. There are, you know... Pkillers in there!"

So my next question is, WTF???

I would like to be introduced to this format, and I think it would be fun.

Other than Virtue (I have no character slots available), where should I start? If I want to do some soloing in the PvP areas and not Arena combat, what is a good starting point AT for someone with a bit of cash, but not billions of inf (if I ever had it, outfitting all my 50s pretty much gets rid of most of it). I wouldn't mind making a PvP build for one of my established toons, but I'd be just as happy starting from level 1.

Anyhoo, sorry for the meandering diatribe. I wanted to say hi, and I look forward to learning about this last frontier of the game.

Oh, and I am kinda Mids-challenged, but I can use it.

    As y'all were!

  18. This is kind of like "where do babies come from" except I think the thread title's answer is even MORE mysterious...

So, do such thing only drop in PvP zones? And, if so, do they only drop in PvP zones where you are lvl 50 and not exempted down to, say, lvl 25?

If this has been answered elsewhere, then I am sorry, because I did not find it through the searches.

And, if they drop in regular content, then are they THAT much more rare than purple drops?

Thanks in advance for the information!

Because light form has a 180 second duration and 1000 second recharge, the fastest you can possibly get it recharging in is 200 seconds, and then further recharge improvement will no longer affect it. So it will always have a 20-second downtime, no matter what you do.
    Ah, I see...

I reckon I've been spending FAR MORE TIME with my Warshade and Eclipse (which you can easily get perma), than my Peacebringer and Light Form...

I may have to rethink my concept a bit...

Okay, if that is the case, then I am more interested in survivability than damage.

So, if I 6-slot every shield & tough, and then get only the IOs that increase dam resistance, IS there a way to be at the 85% cap on S/L/F/C/E/NE and relatively high on Toxic and Psionic?

I realize that cosmic balance will help some, but supposing I am with all tanks or something inane like that?

I have tried using Mids and I just don't have the skill to do it with any alacrity.

    Human only PB?

I am trying for 1 thing, and 1 thing only...

    Perma Light Form.

So, whatever slotting I need to get that is what I want to do...

I figure, if I am at perma Light Form, then I won't really NEED the other shields, and once I have achieved it (with Hasten 3-slotted, 5 LotG 7.5%s, and whatever else I need for perma), then I can go for damage and use Musculature to flesh out the damage output.

This PB was tri-form ever since I made it RIGHT after my very first toon made 50 (good ol' reliable Beorn the tank), and he has languished in limbo as I first got a villain to 50 and then got some VEATs to 50 and then ANOTHER villain to 50 and then my Warshade (made much later) to 50, before finally making my AoE platform elec/shield scrapper a 50.

Now, I feel I have neglected him long enough, but my concept for him is less a PeaceBringer and more an extra-terrestrial from an alternate time-stream where Emperor Cole has already defeated the heroes of his world/time/universe and he has been sent here to defeat Cole and then he can (hopefully) return to his time stream prior to Cole's ascension and bring his new-found information (and even more hopefully lots of Primal Earth back-up) to undo what had been done.

As such, I wish him to be human-form, but not really human.

    Um, tl/dr...

Nutshell- need perma Light Form, THEN will start worrying about damage...

And I would do this how???
  21. BeornAgain

    Nerf Rock

So, there was this fella name of David...
  22. Dark Extraction

Suppression (crab spiders just LOOK cool doing it)

And, really a combo- Shield Charge THEN Lightning Rod THEN Ion Judgement... ahhh the carnage!

  24. Where is the "FREEEEM" power like when we first got a glimpse of the Incarnate powers? :-)
  25. I was one of the folks (like many) who got a hero and a villain to 50 to unlock the EATs and VEATs. Yet, everytime I level a new character to 20 (in Praetoria as well), I get the message that Epic Archtypes are now unlocked...
