Nerf Rock

I come to you all today with a story about my friend. They play a dark melee/invuln brute, and have spent billions of influence IOing themselves out to the nines. Hours of work and effort put into this character that's capable of soloing the labs side of the Lambda Trial, multiple AV's at once, and who decided today that he wanted to solo the Sutter TF.

I play a Peacebringer.

I was brought along to witness this event and pad the team so he could start. It was slow going in the beginning, that first mission taking a long time as he slowly whittled his way through the Warwalkers. Nothing he couldn't handle though, he's built for this after all: resistant to damage, defensive, plenty of self healing to keep himself going. He didn't have much problem with the first mission, just took him awhile as soloing TF's tend to do.

I was getting bored, my goldfish-like attention span being what it is and all; and so in the next mission I decided to entertain myself in the tried and true fashion that me and my friend have become accustomed to. I decided to annoy him...So I declared that the second mission was now an escort mission, turned on Walk and proceeded to follow at a close distance for the entire mission, cowering from enemies who noticed me and crying out when I was in danger. My friend, being the patient and understanding soul he is rescued me every time. We hit Harbinger and Riptide, and after taking down the first, I decided to assist with the latter in the only "non-assisting" way I could...

...He was soloing this after all.

The final mission began as you'd expect, Fusion being dealt with in short order, and Jane falling next. He had some trouble with Primal Duray, as that air support can be surprisingly powerful if you aren't careful. I watched and cheered my friend on, he was about to solo an entire TF by himself, just shy of his incarnate abilities, without his level shifts, just his brute at 40 on its own power.

That is when I ruined my friends day.

You see, I had come into possession of a power that is far more broken than Ion Judgement. It can be used from levels 1 to 50, and is just as effective through all of them. It's effected by damage buffs, ranged, and so common you probably don't even realize that you likely have it too. I could have used a couple, but only one charge was needed.

So after four hours and seven minutes of blood, sweat, and tears I single handedly stopped the Praetorian invasion of Skyway City with nothing but a very upset brute, and the most overpowered rock in all of City of Heroes.

Nerf Rock.

Ha! I was expecting yet another "witty" topic making a statement about nerf calling, and this was so much better and unexpected. Well played sir!

It's kind of a slippery slope though.

If they nerf Rock today, the next thing you know they'll be nerfing Paper and Scissors.

The idea of ending a TF with the rock attack is funny, but it seems rather mean to ruin all your friend's effort like that.

i'm sure his friend was just as relieved. I mean it becomes sort of funny.
Just imagine, Praet Duray is confident he's invincible against the best attacks of the heroes, when all the of the sudden, the least expected thing takes him down, a concussion from a rock picked up off the ground, and the morale of the entire Praetorian army is shaken to the core.

Meanwhile, cole is killed by a rock in his shoe, by causing him to trip and stab himself on his fork of furies.

If I was your friend, I'd want to kick your butt, but I wouldn't be able to, because I'd be laughing too hard...

City of Heroes taught me that when the world is burning, you don't just stand by and watch, you grab a fire extinguisher and do whatever you can to stop it-even if it's not much at all. Sign the petition to keep City of Heroes alive HERE.

I was so ecstatic when he went down, hours of struggle and effort, I was so glad that I was able to do it, I was cheering and the like. I didn't even notice it...

Then he told me and I pretty much saw red. I had not seen him at all during the entirety of the Skyway fight, presumably he was sipping latte's in one of Skyway's nearby coffee shops the entire time. I didn't even see him at the end, nor did I see the rock that did the deed. After a few minutes, I pretty much started to laugh at the insanity of it all, and what exactly had happened.

Doubt I'll be inviting him along on any more of these attempts.

I was there too, padding the team so that brute could try doing something nobody in their right mind would ever do(that would be to deal with Primal Duray for longer than absolutely necessary). To be serious for a split second, it's not like the last hit matters. One person did what has to be hundreds of thousands of damage...and one guy did 54. Hell, it's probably more significant that I flubbed while dodging air strikes and pulled some of the adds. Still didn't matter that much, though. Anyway, it was four hours and seven minutes of sitting around alt-tabbed and listening to Henry Rollins while I should be working on my build. He totally owed us.

PS. Rock is fine, nerf paper.

I just recently respec'ed my namesake stalker and found out he still had a Rock from who knows when. I carefully made sure it had a place in his trays for an occasion much like mentioned above, or maybe for a chance to show some chutzpa, such as at the beginning of an AV fight.

Hopefully I can come away with a story that great.

Nice, I see whatcha did there.

This pure awesomeness. A Preatorian killed with a rock. Can we please get this in the game somewhere? Even as a comment from an NPC civilian walking around Nova Praetoria?

I fully agree. I want to see this. And yes, this thread needs to be saved. Masterful build-up.
