This is cross posted from one of the Pummit threads but heres info on Dark Control (AND ASSAULT!)
Going by memory here so power order is wrong off but powers were:
Single Target Immobilize
Single Target Hold
Cone style AoE Immobilize
Fearsome Stare (from Dark Miasma)
An PBAoE Stun
Haunt, a power that summons two temporary pets that will attack the foe you target and damage + terrorize him.
A targeted AoE hold power (it sounded like it was a patch power similar to Distortion Field)
The last power was not announced and I'm forgetting one other power.
Additionally Controllers will get Dark Affinity and Dominators will get Dark Assault.
Dark Affinity is basically Dark Miasma with Fearsome Stare and Petrifying Gaze removed. One of the replacement powers was a team wide high magnitude, short duration Defense buff (the comparison used was to Moment of Glory) but I forget the other. -
Quote:I'm also liking the explanation of the big Trial push of the Incarnate system so far. Opinions of the whole "goatee universe" idea aside- it makes sense that a "battle of armies" would lend itself to larger raids.Thank you very much!
So this makes me feel a bit better about some of the stuff I wasn't liking.
- The change in the existing zone's mood (fog, ghosts) can be revisited by going into the Ouroboros echo.
- The Ouroboros echo will likely also work as a place to hunt BP masks for the kill badge, and for any folks who still like to hunt BP Zombies for salvage.
I'm liking the sound of this stuff overall.
Edit: I actually find the idea of L50+ Tsoo a bit intimidating. BP might end up being scarier for all I know, but they don't have the existing precedent for mix of variety and potential nasty that Tsoo already do. (This is not a complaint.)
I think someone on the Dev staff liked Marvel's whole Skrull Invasion/Dark Reign/Siege storyline a bit too much. BUT if they are shifting back to more individual hero focus that made this game soo good it can only be a GOOD thing.
This gives me a hope that when the Battalion arrive the Devs can strike a balance between the 2 foci- a couple larger raids to beat off the Battalion's big attacks and then "street-level" encounters with the city's heroes fighting individual plots.
EDIT: Now if they had explained the "battle of armies" angle from the beginning, there might have been less anger at the sudden shift of content focus- and the whole "we didn't know you'd want solo content" debacle could have been blunted. -
Quote:I'm actually ok with this as long as the drop rate for threads are not like the Purple drop rate. That means you can unlock the higher Powers by just street sweeping.I'm not sure if he just left it out or not, but there was no mention of IXP in the list of Incarnate rewards in DA - which might mean that's one of the ways they'll slow down the non-Trial progress, by getting players to convert their Threads into IXP, rather than converting them into components.

Quote:What if it's the Praetorian Infernal? That would just be scary on a whole new level...Source? As far as I've read, Cole and Richter found the Well like in Prime, only Richter ended up dead. No definite word he came out wielding both powers. The devs simply said 'someone' in Praetoria has it. I think if it was Tyrant I don't see why they'd bother keeping it secret

Quote:Well- point 3 you've already got your answer- they confirmed Staff for ALL melee, including Stalkers. If it's more oily, then it sounds more like shadows or ink, which would mean newer animations. I'm expecting that given this is supposed to be "special".
I'm going to toss a wild speculation out along these lines: Dark Control = Inky. Dark Astoria revamp = Tsoo revamp. Discuss.
My criteria for being officially pleased with this announcement after having to wait this long are:
1. animations and fx are new
2. dark assault is also released
3. both are released before another AT gets another set (Staff melee for stalkers only I could accept, but we all know that's not going to happen or if MMs get a 4-legged pet summoning set).
If they aren't using the 'Tentacle' motif for DC, then yeah, it's gonna be a whole new set of animations/FX (I expect some of the actual casting moves are the same but I can live with that- just makes sense to reuse them)
Dark Assault SHOULD be released- even if it is a Hodge-podge. We have enough Dark attack powers to put together the mix of melee/ranged that they want for Doms.
PS- Melee set concepts are much easier to come up with, which is why we see more of them. Control sets are a bit less... common, so they are rarer. We've already got all the elemental sets, plant and earth.. about the only one I really want now is a Tech-based "Device" Control set. Give me that with a Assault set that combines Dual Pistols and some Street Justice moves and I'm golden. -
Quote:I like it- it places Placate squarely in the "solo-friendly, team-optional" category. I solo a lot on my stalkers and use Placate quite a bit- but when I team I barely use it.That's kinda what I fear might happen. It really designates placate as an optional bit of flare vs a serious tool like it has been. Not to mention, by the sounds of it, using Placate > AS might revert the cast time from the new quickness to the slower interruptible wind up, which comes with it's own pratfalls.
It's still kinda early in the morning and it was a long night so I can't think properly
How would it affect Dual Blades who has a combo linked to AS? I figure, sets like Kinetic Melee or Electric Melee won't have any problems with this new mechanic as KM will simply use placate with Concentrated Strike, and EM will use placate with an AoE like Thunderstrike or for ST use AS...
I'm guessing it presents a teaming Stalker with options. "Do I want to build up a chance for a critical hide-less AS (which means my damage type will be resisted by the target)? Or do I want to Placate, take the time to hit AS from Hide and hit the target with unresistable damage?" It's a nice choice to have in my opinion. -
I'm guessing the arcs in the new DA will be solo-able. I can't see them dropping an AV in a arc that wasn't down-gradable. I'm guessing it would be like the PI arcs from Maria Jenkins, and I have no problem grabbing 1-7 of my usual playing group and running this- that type of teaming I'm perfectly fine with.
-
I can't see us getting Dark Servant- my thought would be we get dark "Imps" ala Black Swan whhich I would be fine with.. Imps that deal Neg damage? Yes please!
They have mentioned that it will be "Tentacle Free" and more a 'corrupty-oily' look. So I'm guessing a LOT of debuffs.
Now i HOPE we get a Dark Assault to go with it! -
Zwill did say he'll post up the Powerpoints this week- hopefully from all the presentations- with the unseen ones first!!
-
I think it may be a bug- i ran a KoA tip earlier today and even with 8+ caltrop patches on me I was able to 'run' out fairly quickly.

When you start looking at Alphas, take a good look at Vigor for your WP. A Vigor Core Paragon has 45% regen, and 33% End Redux and Acc- all at 2/3rds above ED. I tested this on Beta with a TW/WP Brute.. VERY NICE!
As for Alphas for EA? I'm thinking Agility. Again, the Core Paragon has 45% End Mod (which will make Energy Drain ridiculous) and 33% to Recharge and a 20% Defense buff. -
I'm HOPING in this case the 'purple' of the recipe refers to the rarity of the drop and not the level- none of the other cotume peices have level gates on their use.
-
I noticed it a couple days ago.. my guess is it was released with 21.5. It's a reward for defeating Maelstrom in the TPN trial a certain way I think.
-
Statesman- "Please don't bury me in this helmet- even I hate it..."
Sister Psyche- "Finally... silence...."
Positron- "Damn.. I left the defibrillator in the other suit!!!"
Synapse- "Can we hurry this along? It's too slow....."
BABs- "I'm getting too old for this #$%^...."
Citadel- "WARNING! Critical Battery alarm- your Laptop battery can only hold 2 minutes of battery life...."
Manticore- "Goodbye Shalice..... sooooo Numina...."
Numina- "I told you... not to cross the streams!"
Bonus- Infernal- "Red ....Warrior.... is going to... die...." -
It doesn't stack for the same user with the same power... but different powers should stack. So many may seem overkill but to me it's simply 'upping' the chance of the proc.

Quote:VERY true Garielle- I realized that after I posted and read a similar comment in another thread- a Tuesday combo downtime would be a good solution (hell.. it's what I do when I need to do a software push at work.)I don't necessarily believe the mistake was in combining the maintenance and the patch, I think the mistake as doing it during the regular maintenance time (a Thursday), instead of the regular patching time (a Tuesday). If they had done both the Maintenance and the Patching on a Tuesday, the recovery time would be the same as the current practice of patching on Tuesdays.
-
Quote:Sappphire, I think thats why you may never see another maintenance/Publish combo again- the window of disaster recovery is too small. It was a nice idea to limit downtime but it just has too much potential to blow up.As Garielle mentioned farther up the thread, the Paragon Studios team really has their hands tied here. There's a huge population of people who are enraged at unscheduled downtime, so if they bring the servers down today, they're going to make people angry. If they wait until normally scheduled maintenance, they make other people angry.
I've personally had fantastic customer service so far. I had to file a support ticket because Street Justice was locked out for me last night, even though I had purchased it. I received a reply only an hour or two later that it was a known issue, and seemed to be resolved by logging out and back in. (Which worked for me.) I've filed bug reports and contacted customer service for another issue and each time have had quick, professional, and informative replies in generally short order, (above and beyond the automatic form letter reply). Having worked in customer service I have to say, hats off to the Paragon Studios / NC Soft customer support team. You guys are awesome.
I also have a sneaking suspicion that the decision to push this issue live was pushed past the devs by a higher up management. The Devs certainly knew of the bugged state, hell the changes to the Alpha and Interface that Hawk posted about aren't even in Beta yet! (And they are significant changes)
So I'm beginning to think that someone else (marketing maybe, who knows) determined that the patch had to go live NOW!!! Why? Not sure- maybe to keep up the stream of "new shineys"? Maybe to give the studio talking points for the summit? I doubt we'll know... but if I'm right, then this better be a lesson for Paragon- Deadlines are all fine and good and should be adhered to.. unless your developers present evidence that the intended product is indeed still not working. -
Quote:Yup.. go read your EULA and let me know how that demand goes....so instead of fixing these bugs now like what they should have done they wait until tuesday because the devs all want to play skyrim atm? gee thanks for such a wonderful thursday suprise. best issue ever!!!
oh and i demand compensation for this. this issue launch has been handled with such craptastic customer service. i demand compensation.
Oh and if you think they are delaying a fix to play a new game... well... just.. Wow.... might want to get a new sarcasm detector. -
And you wonder why a lot of your posts are nuked.....
-
Anyone else get the feeling since Freedom that the design team is being overridden as to when updates are released? There is NO way a release this buggy should have got past QA and Devs. I'm beginning to suspect that deadlines are being pushed by marketing or someone else just to keep "new" things coming out...
I pray I'm wrong.... -
I was on a couple last night- Definitely a better Trial- the Orbital Blasts were almost funny (429 pts damage on my Tank.. REALLY fellas?) and The reduced Terminal count really made it zip by.
My only... complaint is I got the uncommon table both times- when I really needed a Rare and VR. I must run a bunch more to see if the "increased chance for a R/VR" is borked or not... -
Not at all- You'd be far better off getting either one of the Patron Pool AoE Immobilizes or Dropping a Razzle Dazzle Immobilize Proc in Howling Twilight.
