  1. 1. GW2 is developed by ArenaNet who, much like Paragon Studios, are WESTERN (they actually operate in Washington State) MMO developers in the same position with NCsoft being their publisher.

    2. Attempting to do any harm to GW2 means you're only putting more Americans out on the street.

    3. This continues to tell NCSoft the West in unprofittable and further discourages them and other publishing game companies from bothering with the West.

    4. You only HAVE to buy GW2 once anyway. You can get just about anything from their cash shop in game through playing, even the currency for said shop.
  2. I cannot believe people are seriously blaming GW2...
GW2 is not even made by NCsoft, it's only published by them JUST LIKE CITY OF HEROES.
  3. "Find out what happens... On my favorite soap opera..."
    -Veridianm finishing the OP title.
  4. I'M GAY- Oh, wait. Wrong thread for that confession.

Edit: I also want to clarify I'm not really gay. I support gay rights, even though i'm not gay... Or a lesbian. Oh, I also support lesbian rights too.
  5. I've been wondering that myself. I mean the playerbase - PAYING playerbase - here feels much bigger than Aion or Lineage II.
  6. Who would you want it to be, why, and how do you think it would go?

My first thought might be seeing what Paragon's old staff could do if given the limitless resources from Valve... Then I can just see us getting hats as main costume pieces... Hats everywhere and updates more sporadic than Pinnacle's Uptime.

Hey, how about Electronic Arts picking up City of? I mean, Mass Effect 3's ending was Bioware's decision, not theirs, so maybe that could work out? Though we might end up with extremely mediocre updates being pushed out every month and a sequel game each year.
  7. I've actually seen a few people blaming City of Heroes' closure on the launch of GW2, which is really kind of sad and baffling since Guild Wars is developed by ArenaNet and is PUBLISHED by NCSoft.
Really, the sad truth is that Anet and its games are just as much at the mercy of NCSoft's 'keeping the books LOOKING good' as Paragon Studios has been.
  8. For my characters, the story will continue.

And they themselves will probably just end up reinvented in some other story of mine.
Funny enough, I actually already have a story in my head inspired by the City of Verse where a lot of them can migrate.

A few might find themselves a bit more at home there (it's an alternate 1960's resulting from if Superhumans not only always existed, but what if folks like Reed Richard were not useless at all and DID change science and such forever?) others might get shuffled into their own exclusive stories.

Sadly, a lot of these incarnations will never quite be the same.

    EDIT:
OOPS ... looks like Oathbound has the same idea. That makes it a certain fact!
I actually had a similar theory, in fact, I once speculated, before the confirmation of Wu Yin as, indeed, her biological father, I wondered if maybe the Clockwork King was her real father given how little we knew about him, with the possibility of Wu Yin having been a close friend in life.

Though on a less related note, I've always wanted to see something like the Super Seventeen Saga with the Clockwork king where he fuses with all of his alternate world counterparts and, well, becomes one of the few opponents worthy of battling for an incarnate Trial.
  10. One odd theory I had was that the Battalion, for all it's hyped up to be as a some overwhelming army...
Turns out to pretty much be just one, player-sized, humanoid dude...
He's got an army, sure. He's got an empire, sure. But when we first meet him, he looks like an ordinary human who just rolled out of bed and is still half asleep.

Cue everyone being subjected to a massive asskicking.
  11. funny enough, I made this same suggestion in the old "All things Art: Building Edition" thread. (Should still be able to reach it through the links in my sig)

I feel strongly that since the Rogue Isles would only have so many zones, they should REALLY make those zones BIG. To give you a sense that you are in a small nation and not just a chain of random islands, also to give a better feel of exploration, and to allow the different themes and areas of each zone to more gradually blend together instead of the stark contrast and franken-stitched together look they tend to have.
  12. Don't be shy. Show off some of your own ideas for NPC redesigns. Doesn't just have to be the Phalanx either, could even be rank-and-file minions for various enemy groups!

    Of TankMages

I don't know why, but even though I've already read this thread, seeing the title again made me imagine the CoT joining together with the Freakshow with Arch Mage freak Tanks.
  14. Obviously it's going to be Necrons!
    Tomb kings! IN SPACE!!!

(Time to roll up a Beam Rifle Imperial Guardsman. "'Stalingrad?' We call that 'Tuesday'.")
  15. Inspired by the PERC's Vindicator's Makeover, I would like to open up little thread that welcomes any and all costume redesigns you might have ever thought about of a canon NPC. Anything goes, from major Heroes and villains to redesigning basic rank and file mooks from the various gangs. Not to mention the possibility of even making up theme changes. (Like a 1950's Positron!)

Starting off are some redesigns I had in mind for the Freedom Phalanx (Plus BAB):

Positron - With the revelation of new threats descending on Paragon as well as having been painfully unprepared for past ones, Positron has upgraded his armor for additional protection, power, and a little pizazz to help inspire a better image of himself to the people he must now present himself to.
Notes: I've always been frustrated how tech based heroes who used powered armors and such seem to rarely change designs. It just feels as though it's against the principles of technological progression. I do worry I made Positron too "Heavy" looking though.

    Back view

Synapse - It began with some pains, blackouts, and only got worse from there. Synapse's condition was deteriorating. Working fast, his friends did everything they could and pooled their minds and skills together to stabilize Synapse's neural decay, and the end result was not just being healed, but greater control over his powers and the ability to slow himself down to take his time and enjoy life again.
Notes: I do admit that I fear this makes him look too much like Neuron, also, it would have been easier to make this if we had something closer to Synapse's chest lightning, but oh well.

    Back view

Numina - "The dead do not change" says Ghost Widow. Fortunately, Numina never technically was dead, rather a psionic projection containing her own soul in a state known as "permanently disembodied astral projection". Her love for Positron, as well as a sabbatical to learn new and more powerful spells has has a profound effect on Numina's mind and outlook on life, and consequently reshaped her appearance.
Notes: I know some of the newer faces aren't popular because of how 'plastic' they looked, but I was actually aiming a bit for a deliberate 'uncanny valley' effect to make her look like she does not quite exist in this world anymore.

Citadel - In contrast to Positron and his Pratoerian self's "bulking up" Citadel has opted to 'slim down' and embrace a more 'human' existence, complete with a 'life-like' facial facade to better express himself.
Notes: I tried to keep close to his original color scheme, also, once again I deliberately invoke Uncanny Valley.

Back Alley Brawler - Micheal White's been getting on in his years, drifting back into retirement for longer and longer periods... Until the day his spine was shattered in the line of duty protecting the innocent. What would be a life-ending injury merely angered the Back Alley Brawler and reminded him why he fought as a hero. The spinal augment was supposed to restore him to 'less than average' function and was told he wouldn't be able to work as a hero again... He took that as a challenge.
Notes: I used Resistance gloves as sort of an 'upgrade' to his power gauntlets and tried to keep his look 'cleaner' than say, Marauder, since I imagine part of what would define BAB from his Praetorian Counterpart is while the former is a savage fighter (ripping EVERYTHING apart and howling like a beast) the latter is a 'strategic' fighter, a 'thinking man' if you will. Back Alley Brawler's strong, but nothing compared to Statesman, but that doesn't mean he needs to be when he knows the weakest parts of the human body or how to strike parts unprotected by thick hides or tough exoskeltons.

    Back View

    Alt design:

Notes: Fearing though the spinal implant and Resistance Dynamo gloves made him look too much like Synapse, I also had an alt costume where he doesn't suffer some injury to get completely back in the game and even ditches his "heavy gauntlets" in favor of being able to just punch real hard and exactly at the right spot.

Problem here is that a lot of these can already be kind of done with existing powersets, about the only thing missing from them is a "prop", something I notice seems to be common among most magical girls is their attacks coming from a wand, scepter, or something similar.

Heck, my own magical girl character made good use of archery, energy manip, a schoolgirl costume, and an incredibly magical girly name (Sakura Tenshi) to really fit her concept.

Though I'm trying to think of a good counter-example for you... I suppose my best bet would be Negi of Negima (and... um... his harem)... because that series tends to throw in everything and the kitchen sink, so first there's the vampire enemy and her robot companion and puppets that she controls, then there's sinister Eastern magicians, and then a super-genius from the future who is trying to change the past, and then a magical world with all sorts of magical enemies. Quite a bit of variety in that series.
    I said "Generally" also,

    Anime and CoX

You know, this thread's made me realize something: the biggest difference between Anime heroes and Comicbook super heroes is that (usually) anime heroes have a fairly narrow focus in adversaries compared to a Western Superhero.
These enemies may or may not actually commit 'mundane' crimes, and, ironically, a lot of anime heroes are more likely to fight mundane crimes in their civilian personas.
Anyway though, let's look at some examples:

Batman's enemies include The Joker (Insane Clown [s]posse[/s], but otherwise normal dude), Mr. Freeze (love/revenge motivated scientist in a cryogenics suit), Poison Ivy (Plant/Nature controller), Raz Al-Ghul (immortal machinator who is immortal via magical hot springs (I'm sure there's a fic somewhere where Raz mistakes Jusenkyo as Lazuras Pits)), and Catwoman.
As you can see, Batman's enemies fill in a BROAD spectrum, some of which is the result of other writers and the natural evolution of time. Now let's look at...

Ichigo Kurosaki's enemies: Hollows (Hollows everywhere!), other Shinigami, Shinigami and hollow hybrids, and Aizen's dickery. All of them fall into the broader category of "spirits" with "supernatural goals".
All in all, for all the cracks on can make, he's pretty damn focused.

Then there's Monkey D Luffy who's enemies include: pirates, pirates, more pirates, marines, and a small handful of others (okay, I don't really watch one piece, but this is fairly accurate, right?) And for all his bouncing around, Luffy too is actually able to focus on one type of enemy for more than one storyline.

Back on the West side, even groups who might not be called super heroes still fight a broad range of enemies. The Manhattan Clan of Gargoyles fought: Fair Folk, another Gargoyle, vikings, evil magicians, robots, cyborgs, MacBeth, and a corporate executive who makes Nemesis look like Shirou Emiya when it comes to plotting.

Gargoyles didn't even have the enormous run length Superman, Batman, Iron Man, and other super heroes do but the Manhattan Clan still suffered from nemesis ADHD.

Speaking of Shirou Emiya, here's his opponent rundown list: Magicians, souls of ancient heroes summoned by said magicians, black stuff, and (in a possible future) mundane soldiers/mercs. I use Shirou here since he does list his life goal as becoming a Hero of Justice.

TRENCHCOATS AND HOODIES! THEY NEED BLACK TRENCHCOATS AND HOODIES! Nothing says "I <3 death and stuff" like trenchcoats and hoodies!

Oh, also, as far as magajoule's comment: the real problem is also that devs are ignoring lore they further established... two issues ago I believe? Edit: though, on the note of their accents, I'm pretty sure the devs already said in the beta forums they were fixing it. And that's the only thing that out and out used to establish any of the none petrovich brothers as Slavic.
  20. is it still bugged like it is in beta where the generator doesn't appear in the third or so mission for the blueside?

I really really like this concept, I can just see it now...
Infernal: *Calmly walks up to a bunch of Circle of Thorns getting ready to perform a ritual sacrifice* Good evening, gentlemen. GG... You do understand Trolls are too stupid to understand what Norse Myth is, right?

Well, in theory, part of membership for the skulls could include "cutting off your own nose" but I think the Petrovic brothers realized that would be asking a bit much from the membership.
Also made it way too easy to spot them without their masks.
  24. I think I should make my stance clear here: I do love the Skulls update, I do agree with others that they should not be made into a purely ethic crime gang (because we have enough of those) with the exception of the Petrovic brothers and maybe the higher ups like Misery, Manible, and the odd bone daddy or death walker/doll.
