  1. And it has hurricane listed as 20% accuracy debuff which has to be a joke. I've played a rad and a dark and anecdotally hurricane is waaaay and above darkest night and RI in the accuracy debuff.

Is it just very old info? It was written in 2004.
  2. Unfortunately I won't be back from work until 6pm at the earliest but I'll check to see if you've done it by that point in case you don't get much of a response. I would love it on my storm defender, who has the rest of the Atlas Medallion already.

Hmm, using an Immob or Hold with Hurrcaine is tricky, some times the repel filps and they come towards you and away from where you want them. So instead of bunching a mob up, you scattter them out.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It used to be that if someone else other than the hurricane user, immobilised or held something then the hurricane would push that mob away from whoever held/immobilised that mob but they fixed that bug.

I haven't seen hurricane pushing held/immobed things towards me since I came back to CoH with I7.

It is worth noting that aoe immobs like chilblain counters the effect (the "knock-up") of ice slick and freezing rain. So it is best to save that for later. I AOE immobing mobs and either fuching them around corners or off edges so that I only have line of sight with the bobs I am actively fighting.

Since it sounds like you are soloing a lot, have you tried messing around with artic air with 3 confuse duration SOs in it? It sounds like a bit of a faf but you can ice slick and snow storm, herdicane everything into the middle of your slick and then switch off hurricane and move in with arctic air and hit them all with an aoe immobilise and watch them kill each other. I find that with even level mobs, once you've got them all locked into position and within melee range of each other, you can get them all confused and attacking each other. It really is a good aoe confuse if they are immobed and therefore don't move to run away from your air. It makes chewing through spawns a lot faster and as long as you aren't soloing much higher level mobs the collateral damage you take from the ones that do target you is minimal.
  4. I have thunderclap on my controller and it's.. ok.. but not on my defender. I just can't see any situations where I would get to use it effectively.

I would have to switch off hurricane to get in close enough to use it and even then it's only minions. Why would I care when I have several +5 bosses accuracy debuffed into their boots and dancing around like puppets? *shrug* There may be a few stray minions out of hurricane range but they are probably being tossed in the air by a tornado and in no state to fight back anyway.
  5. I find that I only have to use O2 boost sparingly anyway. If you're doing a good job with your storm powers then people often don't need healing. I don't have hasten and don't have any rechargers in O2 and it's practically spammable right out of the box.

I would ditch the rechargers completely and then just see how it goes. You can always add them in later if you find you desparately need it. If someone is getting their head kicked in then you *could* spam O2 boost on them and they *might* live but you're better just teleporting on top of them with hurricane running and stop the damage completely, then O2 them once and move on. Trust me, those Tsoo sorcerors know their onions.

EDIT: In snow storm I have 1 endredx and 3 slows. When I stick it on +5s I want them all at the 10% movement cap, bosses 'n all. And for end usage, once you get stamina and endredux SO's you'll barely realise it's running with just the one SO imo. I only have one endredux SO in every storm power and I rarely go below 50% since I6.

EDIT2: I can't recommend teleport strongly enough. It's just a must have imo for hurricane usage, unless you want to barrel your way through all the mobs and send them flying whenever you want to get from A to B in a fight. You don't always have a lot of room to maneuver, especially in narrow corridors. Also if you see something happening you can get your hurricane right there, right now and shut down that damage in one click. You can also absorb alpha strikes by teleporting into the mobs with hurricane running, if there is no tanker and the scrappers are scared of lots of purple mobs.

EDIT3: Doh. I just realised your are already lvl 35!
  6. Well I got to 12 and got what I had assumed to be one of the big powers in the set (acid arrow) expecting it to be a freezing rain type -Def -Res AoE but without the knockdown or the -Spd -Rech. Well it's a TINY radius, needs an accuracy check, is a single application, doesn't stack and doesn't last very long. Whilst I can imagine that the duration may scale as you level, the radius is unlikely to.

What on earth were the devs thinking? "Oh lets give them something like freezing rain... but without the knockdown.. oh and without the recharge or speed debuff... oh and let's make it have an accuracy check and make it a really small area and have it a single application instead of a pulsing area debuff... oh and we had better make it so that it doesn't stack with other acid arrows... yeah that looks great!"

Just really uninspired by the whole set so far. The debuffs are either small in radius, short duration, or low in value compared with the other defender sets that the effects are borrowed from. Perhaps something miraculous happens to the first 6 powers as you get higher level but I somehow doubt it. It's not hard to see why there are so few TA defenders.
  7. I don't run hasten on my stormie and with 2 rechrdx in Lightning Storm it is permanent. I haven't worried about endurance for a long time and get away with just 1 endred in every storm power. My end is normally 50-75% at the end of a fight with stamina and I give away cabs like candy to blasters and scrappers.

I think it must have been the endurance changes that came with I6 because I always remember my stormies struggling with endurance and now both of them have no problems at all.
  8. I was doing Nemesis the other day (we couldn't stop him regenning) and the D3 insisted that his TG didn't have -regen despite my asking him to spam it non stop.

I'm sure the mouseover of the icon has -regen on it doesn't it? And the power itself leaves green circles around the mob's arms and legs.
  9. Hmm. I started a TA/A defender today and he's now lvl 11. Is flash arrow remarkably different these days? I thought that it was just like smoke and smoke grenade and was nerfed into uselessness.

My biggest gripe so far is the total lack of damage mitigation. Apart from a little -rech from the glue and a bit of -dam from the poison cloud there doesn't seem to be anything else until the knockdowns in oil slick.

I can imagine how TA would be on border of being overpowered if flash arrow was a 30% acc debuff, since the entire set is AoE debuffs and they are pretty much all in there from what I can see... but is flash only 8% accuracy still? That's fairly negligible compared to hurricane, darkest night or rad infection. I would rather that it had an accuracy check, generated aggro and was 30% than how it is currently.

Right now I just see a TA defender is as a 'debuffing luxury' and not as someone that can actually defend their team.

EDIT: Do you need stamina for TA/A? I never saw my stamina drop below 75% the whole way from 1-11. My debuffs went down as soon as they recycled and I was constantly firing arrows.

Storm defenders are below average in both PvE and PvP now

    [/ QUOTE ]

    you take that back!

Besides, isn't the controllers' hurricane debuff only 80% of the defender version?
  11. It's much, much easier to herdicane things about on a controller with AoE root as they don't struggle at all.

Teleport is also your best friend with hurricane. You can teleport into a bunch of mobs and they get debuffed before they do their alpha strike. Then just immediately AoE root and push them into the nearest corner and commence ownage I couldn't live without teleport on my defender. It's less chaotic to put up a lightning storm above your team and then teleport behind the mobs and push them towards the team and the storm.

Herdicaning is much more difficult with my defender. I have snow storm 3 slotted with slows just to keep them locked down as much as possible so I can push them about.
  12. Hmm come on now. As much as I find my FF defender slightly dull to play I do think that there is a lot to be said for the fire and forget nature of the bubbles and the great status protection the set provides. Your DD has to be mobile and the mobs all have to be within range of each other to provide those debuffs and the big one is toggle based and prone to dropping at the worst possible moment.

My stormie is crazy but all he needs is one of those annoying mushroom heads to mez or hold me and bang goes the snow storm and the hurricane.. shortly followed by the health bar if I'm holding back a big bunch of purples in a corner.

Also, detention field is lovely assuming you can communicate with your team. Stick it on the boss and mop up the trash first. You can save yourself a lot of drama with that one power.

    Storm/* Defender

I went for storm/elec for concept and have been very happy with it although I only took the two ranged blasts and ball lightning. SC is tempting but I rarely switch off hurricane and I think the radius on it is very small?

I have a FF/sonic and ended up respeccing out of the blasts because the sound effects annoyed me and the graphics on them were really.. blah. I then stopped playing him all together because I was just a buffbot and I never had anything to do.

Do ask a sonic to preview the blasts for you. They are really dull to look at and make noises that initially sound freaky and interesting but eventually annoy you.

Finally, as you may have been wondering, the tentacle root in dark does not prevent knockback/up so you can't do the tornado and root trick like a controller.

    Why a Defender?

Well I have an ice/storm and just loved the storm set so much that I wanted the full benefit from the debuffs and made a storm/elec defender.

To my surprise the entire playstyle was different. With my controller I was very anal about where the mobs should be and used hurricane only judiciously here and there to push things into my ice slick/debuff zone of control. I hated.. hated... knockback with a passion and if anything got karate kicked out of my little zone of control I was on the verge of losing it.

The stormie though. What a difference. That hurricane goes on the second I'm through the door and only switches off if I get held. I'm moving all the time, dropping debuffs, teleporting around like a frigging Tsoo and firing off tornados and lightning storms, healing here and there if needed, blasting away at any spare opportunity and tesla caging as well. My battle cry is, "Embrace the chaos" and when it all hits the fan it is beautiful, semi-controlled chaos that is always on the verge of going very horribly wrong. I just love it!
  15. I think this is a godly power in pvp and pve. I have it slotted with 1 Acc 3 KB on my FF defender. It very rarely misses and it sends things flying for miles. I can't remember the exact figure but I think 3 KB SO's is something like 160% knockback bonus.
  16. All three debuff effects seem to be really hefty. I guess that's the benefit of it being single target. I'd say 60-70% base on all three effects from observation.

    Carrion Creepers

    3x recharge
    1x accuracy
    2x damage

Don't discount the damage. Just because one creeper may be doing 7 +4 +4 +4 +4 to one mob, with 10 creepers its 70 +40 +40 +40 +40 every few seconds and every time a mobs dies they spam an AoE root that does about 16 damage total to each and every mob. (This is the damage I'm seeing at lvl 33)

Creepers + Aim + Seeds + Fling + Roots + a pet that also flings followed by much flinging and skewering! = large spawns of red/purples dead in no time at all. Two purple bosses in there as well? ... whatever. Dominate to start with and it's all dead in seconds.

    I LOVE my plant/thorn.
  18. There seems to be absolutely no difference in accuracy between my 33 ice controller and my 32 plant dominator. There is also no Mag difference.

It's just the duration, which seems more than enough imo once you get higher level and a few SOs in your powers.

Remember that crowd control durations scale as you level up and are also modified by the difference in lvls between yourself and your target. A lvl 30 hold lasts a lot longer than a lvl 10 hold, irregardless of enhancements.

Also remember that everyone feels their new character has awful accuracy because they are probably used to having accuracy SOs in their powers.

I slot my hold with 2 accuracy, 2 hold and 2 recharge. I can happily keep a purple boss perma-held, or one red boss and a lieutenant perma-held. With domination running the mag and duration both double. You can keep tons of stuff perma held.
  19. I'd definately try and fit another attack in somewhere to help build domination. Having domination up every 5 minutes means your team will waltz through tough fights and you won't need those heals and support tools to survive.

Half the time when I hit that domination button, I'm off!! Forget the team. I can take on the whole damn room!

    Siren's Debt

    [ QUOTE ]
It's prolly something to do with risk Vs reward.

    [/ QUOTE ]

That risk doesn't apply to lvl 50s. It would be a shame if Siren's Call ends up as a lvl 50s playground because they don't fear debt.

Possible solutions I think would be:
    A) No XP and no debt from NPCs in the zone
    B) No XP and no debt from Longbow/Arachnos NPCs
    C) Drastically reduce the number of hostile NPCs, particularly surrounding the hotspot areas. I don't see how a Sky Skiff floating around a hotspot area adds to the fun when there is already a PvP + Longbow/Arachnos encounter going on there.
  21. Avalanche_EU

    Siren's Debt

Is it just me or is Siren's PvP ruined somewhat by the threat of debt from all the NPCs? How is debt calculated in Siren's? Is it if the NPC gets the killing blow or if NPCs do majority damage or even any damage at all?

It's difficult to help out at the hotspots when it's a mixture of PvP and PvE and you end up with debt fighting a hero. I left yesterday with 80k debt on my dominator and although I had a blast the few hours I was there, I really felt the XP debt that took several hours to work off was really unnecessary.

Could we not have XP-less Debt-Less NPCs in Siren's? I can't think of any other PvP MMORPG where the PvP zones are so densely packed with mobs that it's hard to find a place to fight where you won't get some random NPC boss two shotting you in the middle of a PvP fight.

Helpful comments like "don't go there then" will naturally be ignored.
  22. Slightly off topic but from a TOTAL damage perspective, Rain of Fire > Firebreath > Fireball.

This is easy to test if you have a fire blaster. Just go and immobilise identical mobs and see how much of their health each attack removes. I did this myself on the test server with my fire/ice blaster. I only had to see this with my own eyes a handful of times before rain of fire got respecced into and 6 slotted for damage.

If you have some way of keeping the mobs inside the rain for 15 seconds then it's for the win.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
yeah and while u building fury standing next to me i am sure you enjoy me placing holds on you and eventually licking the floor..go you and your tactics

    [/ QUOTE ]

I don't remember you ever doing anything on the several occasions I TPed you apart from talking a bit of smack and then bouncing back to your group. Then I immediately TPed your blaster and laid the smack down on him with the fury I got from you.

My main is an ice/storm contoller. Quite similar to earth/storm. My "other" main is a storm/elec defender. You can do sweet FA at lvl 25 with regards to damage, especially not vs a stone/stone brute with Rooted and Earth's Embrace running. So don't start spouting any "licking the floor" nonsense with me matey. You didn't lick jack.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
Hurricane is the best defence my brute has in pvp (ty TG :P), healt drop to red (run to TG) , low end (run to TG and end drain him) , 4 angry scrapers chasing me (run to TG and taunt them)

    [/ QUOTE ]

You can TP him and build some fury off him too as he inevitably stops to type "lol" or "u nub" or some other innane comment. It doesn't matter that you're missing because any attack builds fury and you can get a good 1/3-1/2 a bar off him as he stands there waggling his e-peen.

    PvP Moments!!!

As a long time DAOC player of 4 years I find Tainted's in-game sig and message board attitude utterly laughable. There is no point boasting when the PvP points system reflects how many hours you can put into ph4rming noobs in Bloody Bay.

Until there are many heroes and many villains duking it out regularly in the lvl 50 PvP zone with villains putting together PvP centric, balanced teams with capped out powers, any such point system is complete nonsense.

Currently he pharms and griefs noobs with his lvl 50. All MMORPGs have people like this. I'm not sure what the villain population in Warburg is like but I'm sure that anyone that cared about decent PvP would not be lurking around the noob zone pharming when there are better matched fights to be had somewhere else.

Maybe in 12 months time we'll see if his boasting counts for much when the new influx of players from other MMORPGs have had a chance to level up characters, learn the game and flesh out the upper PvP population.
