Siren's Debt

Is it just me or is Siren's PvP ruined somewhat by the threat of debt from all the NPCs? How is debt calculated in Siren's? Is it if the NPC gets the killing blow or if NPCs do majority damage or even any damage at all?

It's difficult to help out at the hotspots when it's a mixture of PvP and PvE and you end up with debt fighting a hero. I left yesterday with 80k debt on my dominator and although I had a blast the few hours I was there, I really felt the XP debt that took several hours to work off was really unnecessary.

Could we not have XP-less Debt-Less NPCs in Siren's? I can't think of any other PvP MMORPG where the PvP zones are so densely packed with mobs that it's hard to find a place to fight where you won't get some random NPC boss two shotting you in the middle of a PvP fight.

Helpful comments like "don't go there then" will naturally be ignored.

I agree. There are mobs everywhere and fighting with them is very difficult to avoid unless were fighting in the sea.

It's prolly something to do with risk Vs reward. If you want temporary powers you fight at the hotspots with the risk of death by npc, the risk of debt by villain/hero or a mixture of both resulting in debt. We all know this when we go to the hotspots and its the choice we make. Most players will try to avoid getting another debt, but sometimes if the people at the opposite side are constantly fighting hotspots i personally will still jump in and attempt to kill them. One, because i cant be arsed waiting 15 minutes each time for the battle to be over then probably not get a chance to fight as they dash straight off to the next, and Two because i feel i should attempt to stop them gaining the temp powers which would put me at a disadvantage.

Personally i think it would ruin the idea of battling to regain control of the zone to access the temp powers if the debt was removed. It would just result in people jumping in carelessly and bouncing back from the hospital every 2 seconds making it a mindless bashing task.

That risk doesn't apply to lvl 50s. It would be a shame if Siren's Call ends up as a lvl 50s playground because they don't fear debt.

Possible solutions I think would be:
A) No XP and no debt from NPCs in the zone
B) No XP and no debt from Longbow/Arachnos NPCs
C) Drastically reduce the number of hostile NPCs, particularly surrounding the hotspot areas. I don't see how a Sky Skiff floating around a hotspot area adds to the fun when there is already a PvP + Longbow/Arachnos encounter going on there.

It is fun but its a pain in the proverbial to accrue debt in this way. I hate it with a passion when i hit somoene and they have a sliver of life left and a npc hits them, makes me feel like crap for being involved in somoen getting debt. There should be a debt protection for a time following hero/villain battle interaction along the lines of debt protections following being rezed. Its not a hard thing to apply in the code at all. That or at least reduce the debt to inside mission levels.

Agreed.

Fighting in the battles in Sirens is a form of mission, so why not make the debt in PvP zones half of debt in general PvE open areas, bringing it into line with mission debt. It wont sting as much, and people will be less afraid of entering the zone.

Someone came up with the idea before that when struck by a player-villain/hero, you should be protected from debt for a short period. I cant count the number of times I had just finished a fight with a group of NPC's, only to get AS'd by a stalker, but got debt anyway. Why? Because I was suffering a -1 of damage, every 3 seconds, due to the residual damage of a 'psychic scream'. Y'know, DoT like when you're on fire, the psychic Arachnos units give you it.

If a stalker is kind enough not to jump straight in for the easy kill, and does the honorable thing of waiting until the NPC fight is over, they shouldnt have the guilt of dropping me into debt, and I shouldnt have the full outdoor-grade debt someone gets when they're clumsy. For petes sake, they should at least make it the half-rate debt you get when you're indoors. Even if they had to cut the experience down a little.

There should also be some kind of calculation, that works out how much damage was done between an NPC and a player-enemy. It would be FAR more reasonable, to give the player debt based on how much damage the NPC did. If the NPC only did 15% of the damage that KO'ed you, then perhaps you should only recieve 15% of the normal debt?

I wish I were you.

I have the same problem, and I usually get debt in Sirens when I try to solo there and a villain attacks me, but the NPC kills me.

And btw, why are we PvP'ing? We don't get anything from Reputation, do we?

This would create an exploit for risk free XP.
All you need is a Villian/hero counterpart that will brawl you occassionally for debt-free XP gain. Boring to do but an exploit all the same.

The removal of XP and debt seems the best way. The missions are entirely optional.
Some PvE people may say they want the XP and missions but it's still a PvP zone.
At the same time we should remove the introduction to the contacts in the PvP zones.

Debt absolutly kills the PVP zones and the lvls they have in there (full outdoor debt) is farcical. I would be happy to see them remove the debt and the xp from the whole zone with the exception of the missions and then perhaps we would see more of an influx of people enjoying them.

Kamikaze would be a valid tactic then

I am liking this plan..............but you go first Stalk

Hmm, not entirely. If they implemented a short debt-protection when engaged in a fight with someone from the opposide side, you could also cancel all experience gain whilst you're debt protected too.
