Cryptic seems the obvious choice for someone like Marvel to have develop their game. Go with the best, most experienced in the Superhero genre.
However, I'm more concerned with Microsoft's involvement in another MMORPG, given their previous history with the Asheron's Call franchise, Mythica, and Vanguard. They seem to be worse than EA when it comes to "getting" MMOs.
Should be interesting to watch. -

The reward tables for CoV are the exact same ones as CoH.
The store definitions for CoV are the exact same ones as CoH.
You don't start giving up Inf. for Prestige until level 24.
[/ QUOTE ]
You don't get all the rewards that are available in COH as you do in COV. No drug bust or mugging rescues to gain extra infamy in COV like there is in COH so no it is not the same rewards.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, but there's no ghost-pirate spawns burying treasure chests in CoH.
We couldn't POSSIBLY put extra rewards on those... could we?
[/ QUOTE ]
Is this something you MIGHT do or something you HAVE done?
I ask because I came across a group of pirate ghosts and there was a clickable Treasure Chest next to them. I beat the pirate ghosts and the chest disappeared after a couple of seconds. I didn't notice any reward out of the ordinary for defeating that mob group, and nothing happened whenever I clicked on the chest before it disappeared.
I just figured the chest was a prop to make the ghosts more "piratey". Arrrr.... -

I find that as I level more and more it gets harder not to AS those lone bosses you see outside on your way to your missions. I guess this would be a kin to the whole brutes got to smash everything in site thing. I think 1 shotting a boss outside of a mission is like greatest rush to me. The sad part about it is I know that if I miss this hit and try to scrap I know I am good as dead but yet I still AS anyways.
[/ QUOTE ]
I do this all the time. If I miss, I hightail it out of there. What can I say? I'm an opportunist.
[/ QUOTE ]
Definately.
As soon as I got my AS and especially now with build up, I'll take anything that just standing around down on my way.
Actually, sometimes I feel kind of bad about it because I just whacked a Mob guy beating some "protection" money out of a civilian and I think, "Hey, this guy wasn't in my way. Why'd I go and take him out?" It's a lot harder for me to justify taking out random guys on the street (that aren't Longbow, Cops, or Snakes) because they're just villains like me trying to make it in the world. Not like in CoH where everyone you can attack is an enemy that is harming some innocent.
[/ QUOTE ]Do it because you're evil, and everything that isn't you is prey. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yes, this is a good thing.
But could we please get a comment on that elephant over there, Mr. Emmert.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, and to clarify, it's the elephant that we have been unwittingly making uninformed choices about since March. -
So now that you're back, how about telling us what happened development-wise in the week you were gone (once you get up to speed of course). Your loyal sidekicks have been quite tight-lipped in your absence.
And Godspeed to your brother. Hopefully his deployment places him in the rear with the gear and not anywhere close to the front lines. -

ok just wondering how do you pronounce Tsoo?
[/ QUOTE ]
It's pronounced Throat Warbler Mangrove
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think so, because then it would have to be spelled "Raymond Luxury-Yacht" -

Still here...been busy with visitors this week. Plus - we've got E3 around the corner and, of course, City of Villains (though I'm not saying anything other than "this year" for a time estimate).
And I've been working some on the Arena (playtesting) and even Issue 5 stuff. Oh - and whatever comes AFTER City of Villains. Wouldn't you like to know that?
[/ QUOTE ]
I want to play City of Civilians. My character would be named Matt and I would be one of the hard-hat guys who carries lumber around constantly. My power would be to instantly calculate how many hours a hero has spent in Paragon City.
Either that or I would be Officer [null] from the Paragon City SWAT team. My special talent there would be being victimized. -

I remember when you couldn't choose the destination when you got on the monorail. Instead you had to get off and back on at each stop.
[/ QUOTE ]LoL....Nice one! That was a long time ago. You guys remember when you had to go through the Tutorial with EVERY alt you made?

[/ QUOTE ]That wasn't so long ago, was it?... Jeez, time flies when one plays COH compulsively for the last few months... -
I have nothing but optimism for these vaguely announced changes. Why? Because there is nothing they can do to make my Mind Controller any worse. It can only get better from here.
-
In the 1943 "Son of Dracula" a woefully miscast Lon Chaney Jr. plays Count Alucard, who is shockingly enough is Count Dracula (the film's title is misleading). Of course he fools 'em for a while with his devilish spelling tricks... but in the end it's a stake through the heart or daylight or something equally lethal to vampires.

[ QUOTE ]
OK gang, we'll throw at least 2 of your wants into Issue 4.
[/ QUOTE ]
I would just hope that Statesman would do some datamining on Mind Controllers to see how disadvantaged they are compared to other controllers and how totally hopeless they are in the grander scheme of things.
Someone has to be on the lower rung of the ladder power-wise, and it's fine if Mind Controllers have to occupy that space (for whatever reason). Just bring that bottom rung up a little closer to the other, rather tightly spaced rungs. It's a bit of a leap up to the next lowest one. -
[ QUOTE ]
Yep. I'll grant one of those original wishes.
Maybe two.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm betting that it is a reskinned MOB (a la Halloween) that gets to be the abominable snowman (like an albino Hydra) and we get some appropriate badges for farming them.
Outside chance on the Halloween Rock guest starring as a snowball (after a bleach-job though).
City-wide snow and hats just require too much artwork to make them viable. the possible exception on the hat would be if it is available at Icon, which would require you to choose a new head for your character, as with the other hats.
Of course, no one outside of Cryptic really knows. YMMV. -
Now about those Mind Controllers...
-
[ QUOTE ]
I am going to simply start thinking of the Coralax as a wagon fulla pancakes, on the theory that it's as good as any other explanation.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, but that would necessitate the addition of Syrup and Butter enhancements. Blueberries could be a special power.
I'm liking this... -
Coralax... Hmmmm...
Oh yeah, that's what my Grandfather has to take when he doesn't get enough fiber inhis diet. -
[ QUOTE ]
Ah - one more thing. We're adding a new Inspiration that you can use to wake up from Sleep, Stun, Hold & Immobilize.
Yep - so if you're stunned, wobbling back and forth - you can use this Inspiration and WHAMMO - you're ready for action.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why not just add this feature to the powers of the existing Discipline-family of Inspirations? My Inspiration bar is pretty full all the time now anyway. -

So is the horribly broken state of Mind Conrollers is still on the "no we're not working on it...." list, based on its omission?
[/ QUOTE ]
The changes being worked on with FEAR powers directly involve and affect Mind Controllers.
So they're not omitted. Yet.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless Fear will now cause damage, it will be as worthless in the future as it is now. XP comes from damaging and ultimately arresting MOBs, not just holding and incapacitating them, which is all higher level Mind Controllers can meaningfully do. A balance must be struck that makes them as powerful as other controllers. Mind Controllers are the only pet-less controller, but have no compensating power to make up for that gap.
No one expects the Mind Controller to become a big-time damage dealer, but it gets old being dependent on others to team with you and do your damage for you.
We are the Blanche DuBois of Paragon City. -
[ QUOTE ]
If you've got anything else you want an update on, feel free to post and I'll TRY to answer questions. Please don't ask things about future features...I'll be happy to communicate the status of the "big" questions that appear to come up over and over again.
[/ QUOTE ]

We need the /minime emote where a tiny version of your villian character spawns and begins humping your leg.
-
During the four years that Fable was in development at Lionhead Studios, founder and leader Peter Molyneux ran his mouth non-stop about all the spectacular features that would be in the game. Of course less than half of the things he rambled about ended up in game, and most in a diminished capacity at that.
Although Fable is getting positive reviews, many, many players feel that Lionhead created a false expectation of what the game would be, prompting Molyneux to post a public apology for creating such expectations.
I'd rather Cryptic under-promise and over-deliver instead of "pulling a Molyneux". -

And that's not what I am talking about. That just shows the list of things that are currently in the Training Room. It does not address the design approach of Issue #2 and what is considered a design error to be corrected versus what is a purposeful change to the game. People are wanting to /bug useful changes as well as real bugs.
In your zeal to flame you missed the point entirely. You score no epeen points.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, I was making no attempt to flame. If you look at what is in the list of items for test, compared to how things are on live, it should be fairly obvious exactly what they decided were bad design changes and are in the process of fixing.
You did a good job of flaming yourself, though.
[/ QUOTE ]
You miss the point again. That's just a list, which may or may not be germain to the hoped for discussion of design intent versus what went wrong. Sort of a post mortem of issue #2.
Just let it go. It's a very nice list you found, but it's not the right document.
Anyway, I'm done here. If you're one of those autoresponders who won't stop, you'll just be playing with yourself again. -

Statesman sez:
This was a serious error in design. We've already toned them down once - and we're going to be equipping them with weapons similar to those used by Hellions and Skulls at that level.
[/ QUOTE ]
Does that mean that you will be removing the chain stun/hold/knockback capabilities from these minions?
Instead of spreading piecemeal answers about this problem from post to post, Cryptic might want to make a comprehensive statement outlining all the problems you identified with Issue # 2 and the plans you have made (or implemented) to rectify the situation. Then everyone could refer to that one comprehensive statement instead of asking the same questions over and over again... Think of it as an Issue #2 resolution FAQ.

I know what's in Update 3....
[/ QUOTE ]
To be consistent with the spirit of Update 2, Update 3 will upgrade the Contaminated in the Outbreak Tutorial so that they will now be able to one-shot all new players. And the Rikti practice drones will now shoot back.
Why? For the challenge, of course!
