YOU'RE A STICKY!!
I was looking and looking, despair was setting in... and there you were! VERY top of the pack!
*Happy dance*
When did you get Stickied? Did I just miss it in the past? Am SO glad I can find it easily now, love your listing! Makes much more sense of what's available than looking in the store, or even than the announcements.
*Extended happy dance* -
You can have TONS of Mains! I think that's a beautiful idea!
(That was rather my point, actually... apologies if I didn't make that clear) -
Quote:No, but it's ... alien to my sense of logic, which, against all evidence, I do have. Unless you are GG and make the same character with the same name and powerset (I believe?) on each server, or Dechs, who makes the same character with different powersets. THAT makes sense to me.Like MentalMaden said the definition of a "main character" in a MMO can probably mean just about anything you want it to mean.
For example even if you have 100 different alts my guess is that there's probably at least one of them that has more total hours played on it than any other, even if it's just by a few hours here or there. That alt could easily be defined as your "main" just based on total hours alone.
It's not really -that- big a deal.
Why take the time and trouble to get a character to 50, flesh out a fitting bio, trick it out with the best you can afford to see just how good it can be, if it's not (in your own head) a great and wonderful creation?
I don't get making characters knowing they are always going to play second-fiddle.
Plus, you know, they cry, and I feel terrible. -
Quote:Are you SERIOUS?! Who in their right mind would not JUMP (super or no) at the chance to go to Europe on the company dime??!In with the obligatory "When are you coming to Europe?" question.
Now back to your usual programming.
Instead, they are going down the block, probably won't get mileage comp., or time and a half for working evenings and all weekend because they're on salaried, though possibly parking comp., if they remember to file the paperwork. This is because employees never get to pick where they get to go, the corporate headquarters do, and they are going to aim for the least expensive place they can get away with, and still avoid looking cheap.
This is America, big guy! We don't do benefits like you fancy-schmancy Europeans living in the lap of luxury with your... your month-long paid vacations and...and chunnels to drive to them, and places anyone might want to see within an 8 hour drive! Nossir! We are made of sterner stuff! Mostly cholesterol, I think, but that's a different conversation.
Me, I could make it to Cleveland, but only if I claim my grandmother died so I could get the time off work. -
People still have a "main"?
Why?
Any character I don't fall in love with is deleted, and any powerset I dislike is rerolled to something I like better. It's not any big deal, though occasionally annoying to re-do the same content for badges. It's just what you do as a part of normal CoX gameplay.... isn't it?
Do your other characters resent the "Main"? Are people aware that they are are going to make their less loved characters undergo years of therapy to undo this kind of damage? If you can't love them all, don't have them! It's cruel!
And does everyone rank their characters in terms of good, better, "Main"? Or "Lieutenant-General Main" or "Vice Main" or "First Runner-Up Main" (in case the "Main" cannot perform his/her duties)?
Whole concept befuddles me. -
Emp defenders can not only solo, they can do it pretty safely, being chock full of healing goodness. It's just a bit slow is all. My emp/rad is quite effective on the SSA #1, much better than many others of my characters playing at level 20.
I found the Thunderstrike attack (in electric epics) to be quite a nice little gem in terms of damage, too. -
-
I think one of the difficulties is that we have many response options, none of which is "what are you people, five?!?" I keep having conversations with these guys, and none of the options lets me say that!
In that same vein, I am personally grateful for the opportunity to kick Manticore's butt. Yes, I am still vexed with him over the Twinshot thing, where I ALSO did not have the opportunity to tell him that was a totally jerk move, punch him a good one, turn my back on him and walk away with dramatic contempt. I get to do that here, though, and it's pretty darned satisfying, I have to say.
I can't be the only one who doesn't read back comics. I don't know much of anything anything about these people, other than they perpetually need people on TF's, and occasionally train me up to level 3. Learning about them via the SSA's is like watching a movie where you just don't like any of the characters. It can be an otherwise fine movie, but if I'm not emotionally engaged with any character, then I also don't care what happens to them. If I don't care about what happens to them, then the movie is meaningless. The best movies are the ones where you identify with the characters - especially when you can identify with the bad guys, and you can truly understand how they came to make the choices they did.
I liked Statesman's death thoughts, though, where he flashes back to the people he loves. That got me all teary-eyed, and I got embarrassingly blubbery when the text read that he passed with a small smile on his face. Just that bit explained a whole lot to me in terms of his character. He's crotchety old man, in the body of a 35 year old, having grown up in the days when the only emotion a real man could show was anger. What else could a character like this DO when he's flooded with emotion? He's going to run off until he could control himself and channel everything into getting even "hero-style", right? Obviously, this is my personal take on it, but it holds up and solidifies through all my subsequent re-playing of the episode on various alts.
So I guess in a nutshell, I see "Statesman The Hero" is an old guy yelling at these rotten little villain punks to get off his lawn. He just has a very, very, big lawn.
And I'm kind of okay with that. It makes me want to give the guy a hug, even if he won't have any idea what to do with that. -
*the people here are wonderful! THAT is what makes CoX the BEST. YOU!
*teaming up is easy to do, if that's your preference. There are PuG's happening all the time. Global channels, Broadcasts, LFT flags, LFM search functions. It's also easy to chat with people (friends and strangers) when you're solo, too (The other superhero MMO's are horrible to try to find regular teams, much less find friends). -
Have spent a LOT of time in the CC with all the new, really fun costume options! CoL, Celestial (new to me), along with Barbarian and Steampunk have my mind awhirl with ideas! So, first, thank you for the great new stuff. Just looking around, it seems everyone's look has stepped up a notch or two as well - am seeing spectacular, head-turning costumes on a regular basis. What fun! Great job!
That said, have had more frustration at trying to match fairly simple things, too. I know it's been said (even by me), but PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE add textures to what we have. The textures change the base colors, which is one of the biggest headaches I encounter in the CC. I would far prefer what we have to be usable, than to have new things added, which is saying something, because I adore new stuff.
Seriously, I would PAY (and I'm cheap!) to have the regular, painted on costume parts we already have, in textures/colors that match the rich, glossy bits on Valkyrie and Barbarian (the bra on corset)... the richer fabric texture (and color) of the Wedding Tux/Wedding dress and steampunk items... to have edges on any of the tights/tops with skin... even to have pants (with boots) that match ANY of the above items would be a huge!
Thanks again for listening. And for all the fabulous new stuff, too! -
I like the changes you made in your second build - you got the big things I was thinking of. Thus, more minor suggestions:
*more end. red. in anything you're going to have on all the time, like your armor. Also Stealth, if you leave it on. (my preferred slotting for both is 1) Cyto hami, 1) LotG defense, 1) LotG + rech,)
*am not seeing any knock down protection anywhere...?
*volcanic gasses is quite a slow rech. If you don't use it a ton, fine as it is. If you use it more often, would add a rech IO. Procs are helpful, too.
*Seriously, I'd drop stone cages. Earthquake is your real heavy-hitter in the set, and stone cages nullifies the knock down effect, which is what makes Earthquake a great control power on top of the debuff. Cages also nullifies anyone else's KD powers, like freezing rain or ice slick - which will not make you popular since these items are THEIR heavy-hitters. Yes, it makes the stun into a hold if you use both together, but but you have quicksand to rein in the stunned if you feel the need for such a thing, and it doesn't negate Earthquake. Go for the single target immob if you're after the set bonus - it's helpful for wandering AV's and GM's. Or just get something else entirely. Invisibility or Phase Shift would give you an LotG spot, for example.
*run 2 signature story arcs. If they're new to you, you'll get 1 V or H merit for each one. (if not new to you, wait a week to repeat and get your merit). 2 merits will let you get 1 LotG +def. (And I'm not entirely sure those are more expensive than the Basilisk triple IO). Alternatively (or consecutively), run tip missions for the merit. Be sure you've reinforced your villain or hero status to get the merit reward for the SSA via tip missions.
YMMV on all the above. Looks like a fun build - happy hunting! -
Maybe this is doggie hasten - it makes their tails up and wagging even more!
When they are really good, do they have perma-wag? -
I'm a B.
Used to market seriously (mostly just to see if I could figure out how do it), till coffers were full. Have only dabbled the last few years. Market has changed a LOT. -
Have to say, I love PuG's. I love getting to meet new people, joke around during lull times (on TF's), and generally find everyone around on my server to be nice, enjoyable people, who are aware that this is a game, and it's supposed to be fun. Such great people - that's what I love about this game!
The worst teams I've ever had in the game are, bar none, any Hallows teams I've ever joined. Talos has gotten bad - team leaders who have been playing for about 10 minutes and know everything about this game, because they're experience in another game. They're especially adamant that running missions at +3 is the very best way to get experience.
One day I'll remember this before I join a Talos team and just level up via taskforces. They're generally run by very experienced players (excepting Katie Hannon, where the team leader invariable says "oh, it has to be unlocked? Um... can any of you do that?" But we go on to have a very fine time, nontheless). -
I've been having problems, too.
I'm immobilized as if it's a very bad lag, but it doesn't behave quite the same. I don't rubberband, or have choppy bits. I'm just immobilized, unable to act for awhile, then it goes away.
I have d/c'd on every taskforce I've joined the last week and a half.
I ALWAYS d/c from Atlas train (either leaving atlas, or coming back into atlas) on a TF
None of this was occurring previously. Just the last week and a half. Am wondering if it's since I22 went on beta. -
I'm a "build a reasonably indestructible glass, so I'm not dependent on anyone else" person, myself. When you've got that, everything you do get from your teammates is a lovely extra.

I have learned to make the distinction between "tank" the noun, and "tank" the verb.
Just because someone is a tank (noun), does not in any way mean they have the first clue about how to tank (verb).
Has nothing to do with PuG's, it has to do with ignorance about what the job of tanking is about. New players often want to play a tank because it's the toughest thing out there, and vet players often continue to play the way they initially learned. Also, everyone is schooled in "follow the tank" and "tank has the lead!"
Between these two things, I confess that I have often wondered if this somehow mentally equates to having extra-large man parts. Does it? Is tanking a "manly" profession? I always thought of it as being rather mom-like, like a in mother hen keeping the chicks safe.
Confession: when I tank for a team, I run ahead as well. Hopefully, I have judged correctly that it's minor mop-up. Hopefully. But the pressure to rush on is pressing at me. I have learned the hard way that I really do have to be the first one to get to the next spawn, or a controller will beat me there and "helpfully" immobilize the entire group scattered all over the place, insuring that all of our collective PBAoE/AoE have become largely single target.... and that I am really only guessing about what aggro I've got, to boot. ("Spam that taunt to the four corners and pray! SPAM, I TELL YOU!!").
For the record, my least favorite AT to play is a team tank. Most favored is a controller (I skip the AoE immob, or, if absolutely necessary, place it firmly at the END of attack chain, thank you). -
Quote:THIS! A hundred times THIS!This is my evaluation of the desirability of various archetypes on teams, and is based on my personal opinions and experiences. As such it should be taken with both a grain of salt and a middling sized salt cellar.
Any and all ATs when played by unpleasant and/or incompetent players: Low.
Any and all ATs when played by entertaining and/or highly skilled players: High.
Any and all ATs when played by players who are not especially good or bad: Medium, depending on team composition and ratio/presence of previous two categories.
That's pretty much it.
Does anyone but me see LFM requests for teams/TF's* that want specific AT's and think this is a team to probably avoid?
Or, conversely, decide to join a team you otherwise have no interest in because the leader says "any AT or level is more than welcome"?
*Ok, pre-level shifts, the STF or LRSF are somewhat excepted -
I don't consider myself a "girl gamer", much as I appreciate your making this thread! This is the only MMO, or even computer game I've ever played, though my husband has recently bought me a few of the "staple" games. My husband is a GM, so I've role played ever since I've met him, and our gaming groups tend to have more females than males. Thus, I've never considered our gender to be under-represented in the RP world.
What side do you pick more than others?
Blue. Am very proud that after 5 years, I finally got an old villain character up to 50, all on redside. I dislike the same old dirty, sepia-toned maps, but I have to say Mortimer Kai is the best TF/SF ever, and the SSA's are better on that side, too. Overall, I much prefer to play blue, and pretty much hate red.
What play style do you prefer?
Aggressive, high-damage usually. But anything I play has to be able to stand on its own. I will delete anything that ends up being "team-dependent", after trying everything I can think of to make it stronger and tougher. What self-respecting superhero is all needy and dependent, I ask you? Hey, meet my Blanche Dubois homage character, Madame Whiney-Butt! I don't think so!
What power set(s) do you favor?
Trollers are my favorite, and tend to resent being referred to as "support" since a good troller can blow anything else out of the water. Also love a good blaster. But I have more melee characters than anything else, especially scrappers. I learned to play on scrappers, and have been told I play almost everything like a scrapper. I have 3 - count 'em, 3 - who play at actual range.
What zones do you like the most?
I always think of Talos (or Cap) as being the center of the CoX Universe, but only because everything's so convenient. There are several zones I dislike playing in because they are awful to play with super speed: Faultline, Founder's, and everything redside.
Do you usually play as a male or female (word of hatred) ''toon''?
Female only. However, I have taken a slight "walk on the wild side" (do de do, de do, do de doo) with a new fish toon, Hey, they give us something as interesting as a FISH, there is no way I'm not gonna play it, you know? She has a male, huge body, because a female body would be just silly (Says woman with fish toon). Why would a fish have breasts and a nipped in waist?
Views on Role Playing?
I do tabletop RP. In CoH I have only PR'd in the usual sense briefly when running into an RP team, or if someone starts talking to me in character. I don't really "get" RP as it's done here, but am glad for people who do, and who enjoy it.
That said, I often RP in my own peculiar way. If the toon I'm playing has a very fleshed out character, then I tend to act out that aspect of my own personality. (Luckily, I do not make characters who are butt-heads ) Most of my friends do the same, though none of them would ever consider themselves to be RP-ers.
Servers?
Always Virtue -
I say they're setting it up for Recluse to have some sort of epiphany, see the error of his evil ways and take up the mantle of his fallen friend.
The upshot of this is, of course, that we will never get Statesman's cape. -
Quote:Of course I get it. You, as you just said, are the one who doesn't get it.You dont get it, do you?
We all know this is a FEMALE ONLY pack.
Really, we know that.
What pissed me off is two things:
Price. 400 pp is expensive for 10 female items. (But I love them and I buy some of them...)
The feedback threads when they stated they CANT add or modify SOMETHING in the pack due to time and resources. I dont get it.
Read the Beta threads. You will find lots of outrage, if that's what you're after. All this has been said/done/gone over repeatedly. -
One thing that got said over and over in Beta threads was "PLEASE let people know this is a FEMALE ONLY pack. Even if there are a few mace skins males can use, it's female only. PLEASE tell everyone BEFORE they buy it!
And that's what they did. I was really impressed! GOOD JOB DEVS (and sales!!), and really good thinking ahead Beta Testers! -
Quote:Hey, folks. There's been some interest in the basic tights category lately, so let's talk about it in depth. If we were to make some new BASIC TIGHTS options for the game, what would you want to see?
Some options to consider:
A) revamped old school/spandex tights similar to the ones we already have (adding a few details like seams but still mostly plain)
B) loose-fitting tights with folds (like you'd see in Golden/Silver Age comics)
C) modern super-hero tights (w/ ribbing, surface texture(s), subdivided surfaces) a la Ultimates 1 or Marvel movies.
Some say that the Defense and Olympian Guard base textures cover this style fairly well. Do you agree?
Notes: in this thread, let's focus on BASIC TIGHTS ONLY.
I would like A, a thousand times A - but with certain conditions:
*TEXTURE - for example, the texture of the female Tank Top is great! Wonderful. I can wear this in white and not look like I'm naked with an unfortunate skin condition.
*EDGES - would like the fabric (again, just like the female Tank Top) to have a distinct edge, not just stop abruptly - or worse, look fuzzy and frayed.
*UNIVERSAL TEXTURE: I would like whatever texture, fabric, looseness, tightness, whatever - TO BE AVAILABLE AND MATCH EVERYTHING ELSE. If I have (for example) a "matte" outfit, I would like it to match all the different parts, from boots to gloves to cape to mask. Any texture is fine, just PLEASE PLEASE have it match all the different parts of the costume, head to toe.
This is by FAR the most frustrating part of the costume creator - we have dozens of different textures, but none of them (but the original) works with all the different parts of a costume, so we often can't use the nicer textures that are available.
*Please add a "BRIEFS" OPTION FOR FEMALES. I rarely (eg, never) want a 60's bikini bottom that doesn't meet the top of the costume. I rarely want an 80's french cut bikini bottom, either. But lots of times I'd love a 1 piece leotard, a la the old Robin pictures.
*MASKS (cowls, full masks, half masks, cute little cut out masks) WITH TEXTURE AND EDGES.
Thank you! -
Masks with texture (that is, not painted on) has been high on my list forever!
Short gloves with a sleeve option, so there isn't a large expanse of forearm between the glove and the elbow where the where ones top abruptly ends.
Short boots options (with or without tights options, to avoid the large expanse of bare leg).
Granny Panties. For bottoms with skin or tights, we need a bottom piece that is not a skimpy bikini bottom, and attaches to the Tops.
The mantle portion of the Cloak, without the high collar.
I like the 40's hair roll a lot, but not simply because of the retro style. I like it because it has some height on the top of the head, without being "wild" or "tall spikes" or other quirky hairstyle. And the hair at the bottom is long, but short enough to wear with a cape.
In addition, the hair length - the curls, would look GREAT with a full mask! Very 60's Bat Girl and dozens more I can't think of until I've had more coffee this morning. As it stands, females can't wear the full masks at all unless we opt to look bald, with a painted scalp.
Textures that MATCH:
*For example, love the matte boots and gloves, but they don't go with many tops or bottoms options - I can think of only 1 bottoms option they look good with.
*We have dense-textured, newer options, but the old standard "satin" (the regular tights) look washed out and just awful next to them, so can't be used together. An example of this would be a steampunk jacket and a regular mini-skirt, both in black - the skirt looks like it's been washed in hot water a few hundred times. "Shiny" tights have much the same problem and don't go with many of the newer options, either.
The upshot of these miss-matched textures is that we often cannot use any of the old, more classic silver-age pieces with any of the newer pieces. The newer pieces simply overwhelm the old "tights" in terms of color saturation and texture.
Thank you for asking about this, and starting a thread! This is the only MMO I've heard of where the devs actually ask the players what they want. I LOVE THIS GAME! -
WOW! Thanks! I never knew that area had costumes. My feeling stupid is totally countered by the fact that such a place exists! Thank you, thank you!
