I don't see any historical evidence to suggest that we can be non-viral. Every significant advance in technology has resulted in a corresponding increase in our population, life-span, and resource consumption. This, in turn, has led us to develop more efficient, better technologies that, in turn, leads to population growth, etc. It's not necessarily a bad thing, since I believe it will eventually lead us off of this planet and onto others, but it's definitely virus-like.

Unless as a species we decide to control population levels and manage consumption levels in that manner, we'll continue to be viral in nature. I think it more likely we'll alleviate our over-population issues by expanding to other planets than to legislate our drive to procreate.
  2. I'd say it is much more likely for us to expand to the stars based on the need for further resources that we have depleted on this planet (virus-like) than it would be for us to decide to stop over utilizing available resources and live more in balance. The former would offer the opportunity for us to sustain our lifestyles at current levels of waste while the latter would require us to alter our lifestyles to reduce waste levels.

I don't see us, as a whole, deciding to live without many of the luxuries we have grown accustomed to even if the alternative might be extinction. Instead, like our ancestors before us, we'll migrate to another plentiful resource and overuse it until it is depleted as well.

Hmmm....maybe it's just me, but I don't usually see much celebrity news in the Technical Issues & Bugs forum.

Maybe if you post your CoHHelper log we can figure out how to keep you from following celebrity gossip?

    :P

  5. Send money to friends/family in the States, have them buy an NCSoft game time card and email you the code? That should work, I think.

Really, the SO enhancement stores are much closer to a Wal-mart analogy than WW. WW is closer to ...well, an auction house, like Lloyd's of London. Having the expectation that Lloyd's will always have the merchandise you are looking for at the price you expect to pay is rather presumptuous, I think. Even though, in this case, there is only one 'type' of auction house and everyone in the world uses it to sell items...it's closer to eBay, really, but there is no brick-and-mortar version. Still, would you expect to find whatever you are looking for at the price you want to pay on eBay?

... also, I estimate that H/V merits have destroyed trillions of inf. The new inf sink is pretty good, but it's got a lot of catching up to do. It started six years behind the competition.
I actually meant closed economy by that statement. It's certainly not a closed system.

I wonder about that as an INF sink, though, since any activity that generates merits will also generate INF. I imagine it's less than 20M in most cases to generate 50 merits, but I've not really checked.
  8. It's a closed system. One with a multitude generating INF through missions and mob kills and relatively low opportunity for removing that INF from the system. The best INF sink, Wentworth's and the Black Market, can only destroy 10% of the INF of any transaction. It's a runaway inflationary system with the INF cap being the only limiting factor. I would expect it to only be a matter of time without any decent INF sinks in the game to control the inflation before any item that is actually deemed valuable to be worth exactly 2 billion INF.

It definitely wouldn't. Take a look at the powers the Protector Bots have. None of them are melee attacks of any sort. They still happily charge into melee range to fire their lasers.
  10. This came from another thread about how to fix AE XP/rewards. One of the suggestions was to have AE missions charge INF on a sliding scale based on the level of the mission. This would collect together and be given to the mission creator. I added that the AE should charge a 50% fee on the collected INF. So part wealth redistribution with a hefty tax as INF sink.
  11. I regularly play tanks on blueside. I've often noticed how frustrating it can be to tank Nemesis because they refuse to move in from range and fight in melee. Even after taunting several times - which should force them to come into melee range, many Nemesis mobs still refuse to budge and happily plink away.

I often play masterminds on redside. In particular, I have a high level Bots MM and the overwhelming compulsion for the bots to run into melee to attack is highly frustrating. I can see the possibility of the Assault Bot or the Battle Bots running into melee to use their Smash power - though really, this should only happen on the rarest of occasions since they have several other ranged attacks to use, but the Protector Bots run into melee, too. The Protector Bots have no melee attack. They have absolutely no reason to engage at melee distance.

So, perhaps someone could take a look at the Nemesis AI scripts and compare them with the Robotics AI scripts so we can get Bots that will fire their ranged attacks at range? It's fairly ridiculous when a Force Bubble is keeping every mob at range and even the Protector Bots decide to run right into a large spawn to fire their laser guns.

I would be overjoyed if my bots could download some Nemesis programming and finally stay at range to fire their lasers/missiles.

    Updater Problems

Since you are running Windows 7, you will likely experience this same issue in the future while updating unless you install the game under the Users/Public directory. Since running the updater as Administrator allowed all the files to download correctly, the issue was most likely one of permissions in the Program Files folder.

I would possibly pursue this, except I'm fairly regularly logged out when clicking any link on the forums. I probably log in about 30-40 times a day or more just browsing new posts. Somehow, I don't think it would be very useful to pm about every possible link causing an issue. It's obviously not related to a specific link or activity, but something more universal - at least in my case.

Using Firefox 3.6.10 if that helps, but I've encountered the same behavior in IE as well.

Actually, now that I think it through, let the creator designate whether he earns Influence of Prrestige through his arcs when people play them. That would allow all these solo SGs to build things up a little faster.
This. Except the AE keeps 50% of the INF. Then make sure that AE experience is equivalent to normal missions - I wouldn't even mind end of mission bonus xp at that point. Make it as attractive as possible to maximize the INF sink. There's too much INF being generated and not nearly enough outlets to remove it from the system. This could certainly help accomplish that.
  15. I'd suggest Bots/FF. Force Bubble and all the AoE Bots generate on a cave map is full of win. Force Bubble 'herd' a couple of spawns into a corner and AoE melt them away. Not to mention, all of the bubbles makes for some very safe farming.
  16. I'd be more than happy if they got rid of the run AI logic completely. Yes, it's more realistic, but I have never had any mob run away from me and thought, "Gee, see how much more fun it is to chase this mob down instead of it fighting me straight up?"

Sometimes more realistic <> more fun. Especially when it seems to be rather broken, anyway.

    Ninja Run

With Swift and Sprint running at the same time, Ninja Run is a viable alternative to a movement power, especially if you slot run speed in Swift and Sprint. In fact, your run speed will be almost as high as unenhanced Super Speed at that point.
  19. I haven't tried it myself, but I've got to imagine that 8x Electric control could be rather difficult. Even with enough break free's to cancel out the sleep, 8-stacked Static Field and Conductive Aura should probably floor your endurance in about 3 seconds or less.
  20. Part of the confusion could be because the server status page seems to be broken. I'm showing that the server status was last updated on 9/7 at 17:30 UTC. No amount of refreshing or clearing of cache updates the page.

Ross keeps all of his anger in his 'stashe, thus the 'stashe is where all of the mass of Red Hulk comes from and why you only see it in Ross form.

  22. I'd say it's probably working as intended. It gives a small regen (5%) and recovery (3.13%) bonus per mob in the area of effect up to 8 mobs for a total of 40% regen and 25% recovery bonus if maxed (all unenhanced values, which can both be enhanced). In addition to this buff, it also does end drain to enemies.

I really doubt you're going to see damage added to it as well after all of that.

Defense is soft-capped in Ranged, AOE, and a few damage types. Some of the damage types are well over soft-cap, but since there is no defense debuff resistance this might help mitigate some cascade failure. I didn't bother much with Melee (though it is still over 30%) since the KB and Force Bubble should keep most things at range anyway.

I'm only in my 20s with this toon, so this is more of a goal than anything. I'm not positive there is enough recovery in this build and if it sucks too much wind some of the defense may be exchanged for more recovery. Still, seems like it should play very "tankish" with all that defense.
  25. I'm in the minority, apparently, but I actually like the electricity control sounds.

I usually play with my sounds very low, since I often am on a headset at the same time, but after cranking it up enough to hear it I've decided I may keep it up.
