I won't mention diversity since it has been said many times already and pretty much speaks for itself by now.
So instead I will say my favorite thing, and the thing I probably miss the most, was that the secondary effects of powers actually meant something. Powers were chosen as much for their secondary effects as they were for damage. Now it's not even really a consideration since your just going to pick the power that does the most damage. -
Quote:3 is a small number.
33 is a much bigger number.
CC has 33% more sugar than other sweetened cereals.
It's more of a cerealized candy.
Kelloggs Raisin Bran has 17 grams per serving and 250mg of sodium, and nobody is complaing about that. And to think alot of people (that I know at least) sprinkle more sugar on top of that. Kind of makes the Captain look like diet food.
It's all about perception. People see bright colors and sugary coating and assume it must be less healthy than other "healthy" cereals. If people actually looked at the nutritional information on the sides of the box they would see that just because something has the name Bran in the title doesn't make it healthy. -
Quote:Most of the 'healthy' cereals contain at least 9 grams of sugar per bowl. Sure, they have higher levels of fiber and much better vitamins and minerals when compared to Captain Crunch but CC's sugar levels, at 3 more grams per bowl, seemed an odd thing to be slamming it for.
Agreed. There are cereals with alot more sugar per serving than that. Raisin Bran has more sugar with most of those so called unhealthy cereals, and no additional nutritional content to make up for it. -
Quote:If they had just made Tomb Raider a little more like National Treasure, except with more gun battles and T&A, it would have been golden from the start.
Really? I felt just the opposite. There was almost nothing about National Treasure that I liked.
Regardless, I completely agree with the notion of more gun battles and T&A. Every movie could benefit from those. -
I think this would have gone a long way toward making a good impression if it was done before making a post like this. A red name showing up unannounced and participating in KB a few times before one of these posts might lend more credibility than just saying they want to help.

PvP. I have gotten almost as many shards killing players as non-players.

Quote:So what's our plan as a Community Team moving forward? well, first off, we're going to continue the open dialog. Why is this important? Well, the more constructive and helpful discussions we have regarding PvP, the more opportunities I have to point the development team towards valuable feedback. The intent is that talk will eventually lead to action.
It's good to know that you intend to at least listen to what the PvP community is saying. I feel I need to point out however that one of the more common complaints in the past has been a lack of communication FROM devs and community reps. It has pretty much always been a one sided conversation in that regard. We understand that marketing has your hands tied when it comes to divulging information, but it would be nice if you popped in once in a while and let us know that what we are saying has been passed on and that it has been heard and understood.
For instance, the numerous bugs that have been mentioned. We don't even know if the devs are even aware of them since there has been no acknowledgement that they exist. I have seen threads in other forums that detail bugs and it's not unusual for a red name to pop in and say something about it. That doesn't happen here. I have in the past emailed Castle concerning various bugs. The PvE bugs I reported were always acknowledged promptly with an email. The PvP bugs, never. I don't even know if Castle ever got those emails because I never heard anything about them again, and who knows what happend to them after he left. -
My personal favorite.
They are customs obviously and the one that was given to me for Christmas a few years ago has a few extra accessories. -
Yes, that was real. It also happened to be one of the absolute worst Justice League stories ever written. I bought them because I'm a die hard JL fan and something of a completist, but I couldn't force myself to read them all. They sit at the very back of my collection.

DC has many iconic franchise names that are held by different characters. GLs, Robins, Flashes, Superboys. They all have the iconic names, but can the current name holders be seen as iconic? I definately think many have the potential if they are given the opportunity, and it could definately be argued that some have even surpassed the former name holders. Wally West and Kyle Rayner come immediately to mind as does Dick Grayson although he was the first Robin. -
I honestly had no idea that was Barry Pepper in True Grit until the credits rolled.

While the Sienkiewicz runs on both New Mutants and Moon Knight were two of my all time favorites, I had to give the vote to Frank Millers run on Daredevil. It has had the most lasting effect on comics in general from that decade.

I mentioned the recent discussion on race and it's relevance in casting of iconic characters to my wife and it brought up another interesting question that I have been mulling over.
What was the last new character created that could be considered iconic (Superman, Batman, Spiderman)? Is it possible in the current age to create new characters that are truly iconic, or has society at large changed to such a degree that we have seen the last of those kinds of characters?
After some thought, the only character that came to mind as having that kind of potential was Wolverine, and that was 37 years ago. -
Quote:Negativity I can understand and empathize with. Approaching something in a reserved manner because of past experience is reasonable. I just ask that you don't let cynicism overshadow any sort of attempt we make to gather useful and helpful feedback.
Understand that we have already done all this before. A couple of times. We have already been through the process of listing our likes and dislikes and wishes. There was even a nice little list compiled that was stickied.
All completely ignored.
It's not you Z. It's really not, but you are gonna catch a lot of **** from those that have been previously burned. Fool me once and all that.
Until you can demonstrate beyond talk that you are willing and able to facilitate change with the devs on the PvP front, not very many people are going to get behind you. A gesture of some sort such as working to get the afore mentioned bugs fixed would go a long way toward really opening the lines of communication. -
Quote:Well, Costner has only ever really been good in westerns or sports movies. Since this is neither, I don't see this doing well.linkage
Thoughts?
I don't know if they'll go with the older Lex Luthor route or have him play Pa Kent. I think either of those is better than Jor-El, though.
What about Perry White? Hmm . . .
*EDIT*
Forgot the question mark at the end of the title. >.< -

Quote:All things being equal, this would be an ideal solution. But things aren't equal. The "whites only" club of characters have a 50-plus year head start, making them more popular and profitable.
Saying "go start your own club" is kind of being a jerk. Just take down the "whites only" sign.
That's a huge leap you made there, and isn't even close to what I said. Also a little insulting, but you know that.
So instead of creating new non-white characters that are well written and relevant and capable of holding their own against the old standbys of the "whites only" club, the publishers should just hand over all the old characters they have been writing for decades and change them in a way that completely ignores continuity and disrepects their history to make the "sides" even. In what way does this help anybody move foward? In what way does this really help to increase diversity? You can't increase by subtraction.
It's not about numbers, man. It's not about how many white characters vs. non-white. It's about the quality of the writing. Lets face it, most non-white characters written during the silver age of comics were little more than stereotypes who were there to support their white counterparts. The Golden age was even worse. It's really only in the last 20 years or so that things have turned around and non-white characters have been given substance. It's only when the publishers really work to integrate more non-white characters, and more female characters for that matter, that things will get better. Giving away old characters and turning them into something they aren't isn't the answer. That doesn't solve anything, it's just insulting. -
Quote:No, it should not be jumped at. Taking the opportunity to create new characters that embrace their heritage should be jumped at. We should increase diversity by created the future, not by destroying the past, however ugly it may be.Because reducing diversity is bad. Increasing diversity is good.
Seriously, 95% of the best known superheroes and their supporting cast are white. It's an embarrassing reminder of the past, and any chance to alter some characters (like starting a new movie franchise) should be jumped at.
Learn from the past, don't erase it. -
Quote:Exactly. It is a far more ellegant solution and actually adds new continuity rather than just paving over the old and pretending it doesn't exist. My thoughts are if you really wanted to make a alter version of a character with simliar powers, Why not create a brand new character?
Yes, racism is bad. Pretending a persons race doesn't influence who they are is worse. -
Quote:I would argue that her race is an integral aspect of the character given the era that the character was created and the accomplishments that character achieved during that time and the time since. Lois Lane was never envisioned as black in anything but one "what if?" type issue. There is decades of continuity to the character that has in essence given the character a life of it's own, and that continuity must be respected. If a biopic of Lady Bird Johnson were being made, nobody in their right mind would even consider casting a black woman in the role. Why would it be an option for a character with the kind of history that Lois Lane has?Conversely, is there any overarching reason why Lois Lane has to be caucasian? Is it a key, defining part of her character? Is it integral to understanding who she is?
I'm not saying it can't be done. I saying it shouldn't be done. In large part because nobody would take it seriously as the given character. Even if the actress in question gave an amazing performance that garned awards, it would still be dismissed as not being the right character. Why? Because Lois Lane is caucasian, and that is indelibly imprinted in the minds of anybody that has ever read or even heard of the character.
Alot of people in these discussions like to bring up the Nick Fury race change. It should be pointed out that the Nick Fury of the Ultimate Universe is not the Nick fury of the 616 universe. They are completely different characters occupying completely different universes. About the only thing the two have in common is the name and their affiliation with SHIELD. In all other respects they are completely different people and as such the comparison does not apply. -
Quote:It should be "best actress that fits the character", in this case caucasian.I don't really have a problem with it from a "best actress for the role" point of view.
Quote:Theoretically there's nothing about the role of Lois Lane that requires her to be portrayed as any specific race.
These kind of theoretical question seem to come up alot in these forums. As far as I'm concerned, if there is going to be a change of that nature to a long standing character like that, there had better be a damn good reason for it beyond the whims of the production staff. And no, being the "best actress" is not good enough. -
When the comments start with this,
Quote:Nate: We always fix bugs that come up with the current PvP system,..
I pretty much know everything that follows is BS. How long was Stalker Placate broken? How long was the Placate proc broken? How long has Kin Scrapper Concentrated Strike been doing waaaaaay more damage than the AT modifiers can account for?
They don't fix **** in PvP unless carebears complain. -

Revert Travel Suppression (TS). Change travel suppression back to pve travel suppression. This will make Kinetic buff more viable in zones and arena pvp. As it is now if more then one person is attacking you and you don't have an escape power or lots of greens you will not be able to evade very well and more then likely die. Evading is a big part of survival in pvp and TS just make it so you can not evade nearly as effectively. (again this is a major dead horse...) Quote:Travel power enhancement (and others that are not coming to mind at this time). Consider removing certain things from being affected by DR. That way things (like travel powers) can be capped at pve standards vs spending alot more slots to get the same results. You can currently easily cap run/jump speed and height in pve, but to get the same effect you have to speed 2-3x more slots to get the same effect when your also trying to get other things in your build (a lot of people use travel powers to get extra knockback protection. That with extra slots on top to get max run/jump speed ends up being a lot more slots then you would if it was not DR'd)
I don't see these things ever changing. Whether PvPers, or anybody for that matter, agrees with these things or not, reducing travel speed and evasion capability was one of the cornerstones of the PvP changes. The devs don't want people to be able to get away easily. For whatever reason, they feel it is counterproductive to good PvP, and no amount of evidence to the contrary has changed their minds. They very specifically want to slow down PvP, and would most likely be the very last thing to be reverted back.
I think the efforts of the PvP community would be better channeled toward getting other things reverted that would lessen the impact of slower speeds. Getting rid of HD and softening the DR curve on teammate buffs would be a good start. As it stands now, there is almost no way to really help a teammate that is being spiked by a determined and coordinated team. If that teammate doesn't have an escape power, they will most likely be taken down no matter what the other members of the team do to help them. This is assuming zones of course. -

My daughter is 5 and has had her own account for about 2 years. She has never actually gotten out of the tutorial, but she just loves running around jumping in the fountains and using the emotes. I make a lot of new characters that get deleted just so we can play together
