. . . I am sick to death of getting on and getting nothing but broadcasts of EVERYONE and their mother trying to farm. . . .

Are you going to any zones besides AP?
    .

    [/ QUOTE ]

I do, with no luck, most times other zones are vurtually empty, everyone is in AP.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, given that most people are in instances, what are you expecting to see in those zones? Have you tried running a search in them to see who's there? Have you tried asking any of those people you finsd to team with you?

I'm never sure exactly what people who come to complain about how AE has "ruined" the game actually expect to see in the open in a game that is more than 75% instanced missions. It is pretty rare that you would see a crowd of player characters just standing around or even doing anything "outside" except travel to missions, and then it would be pure luck to see them at that exact moment in time because they pass through areas not stopping.

Oh, and BTW - Triumph isn't "dead".

I want that Knives of Artemis costume power so badly.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Me too. But I'm so very unlikely to ever get it.

To those who say things like "But they give out the codes to other places, like to be given out as prizes, etc.", let me just say that this is my experience - I went to the Meet & Greet in Columbus at Origins Game Fair. We contacted Niviene and she very kindly hooked us up with stuff to pass out. That stuff included significantly less than enough codes for everyone there who would have liked to get one to actually receive one. And it was not a brand new fresh code like this kewl Knives one.

I would pay money for one. But I can't pay the price of a pass to SDCC plus hotels and air fare from Columbus to San Diego. So once again, I will do without.

I'm kinda sad at the astounding lack of empathy for those of us who can't attend these West Coast events from the forum posters. I hope you have a blast, but please try to understand where the non-attendees jealousy is coming from - and I freely admit I'm jealous.

    Lighting?

When in the Base Editor, there will be an open window that is the Room Description. There are tabs in that window for Stats, Lighting & Info.

The Lighting tab allows you to set color & lightness/darkness for the top, middle, and lower part of the room.

You can also effect the colors in the room by tinting the varous sections (Mid Walls, Ceilings, etc.) by making them darker colors.

I'm going to guess that this particular name was blocked, not taken.

I know I would have petitioned it if I had seen it in-game. Pretty juvenile, IMHO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Apparently sarcasm is not your forte. The punchline of the story is how *short* my latest attempt to play blue side was. Of course I knew the name was not available but it was just an afterthought considering I wasn't serious about playing heroes in the first place. *rolls eyes*

    [/ QUOTE ]

Oh, so sorry I didn't realize you were trying to make some "blueside sux" point in a thread discussing name availability.

    Was that sarcasm enough?
  5. [ QUOTE ]
The other day I tried to start a blue side stone tanker named Alabastard but the name was taken. That was my shortest stint on hero side ever.

At least this year the costume code does not seem like it will be permanent; looks like it will be temporary like the Halloween costumes. Still it bites that us on the Eastern shore are pretty well out of luck for these. I know I can not afford a plane ticket and/maybe hotel costs for even one night to attend.

[/ QUOTE ]Pretty much crap that it's only for those fortunate to live nearby.

    Pretty much.

Guess we are supposed to get used to it.

Um, if it was worth spending hundreds of hours on, how in the world is it "destroyed"?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because if it was deleted, all those hundred of hours spent on that character would ultimately be wasted and not everyone thinks that it's that easy just deleting a character whom they've spent those hours and days spending on levelling and IO sets?

Seriously, how is it not easy to understand?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Erm -

This is a game. Any hours you spend on a character are in essence "wasted" - at least in that you could have spent those hours earning big bucks at your job or developing a cure for cancer or helping orphans learn to read or something.

The fun that you had as you were levelling that character was supposed to be its own reward. If it wasn't enough reward, then perhaps a different choice of how to "waste" your time was in order.

Being as stating something along the lines of obvious troll is obvious is deemed unconstructive. I will most definitely not say that.

Can you guess what I am thinking though ?

    Tacos?

Too much thinking of food in these threads - sharker brings popcorn, mingwa brings snickerdoodles.

MA is ruining my DIET! (At least I think that might make as much sense as the OP )

You can build a personal SG base and put in Salvage and Enhancement bins. You'll need to get someone to invite your alts to it, but that's less of a risk.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I read about this. Is it pretty much just an SG with the basic plot size or is there an additional mechanic to it?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, it's kinda even less than that. Set up a new SG, and "buy" a base. All you need beyond the Entry Room is a Workshop if all you want is Enhancement & Salvage storage for trading between alts, since those storage items don't need external power or control. If you want more than that, adding an Oversight Room with the Combo Power/Control Unit is usually sufficient for small bases.

It uses the smallest available plot (8X8) but doesn't come close to filling it up - which leaves room for expansion later.

I have helped folks out when setting these up by making a character just for the purpose of inviting alts to the new SG, then quitting (and deleting the character to get the slot back).
  10. I am most likely bringing a blaster of some flavor, unless the team needs a baby troller or another defender.
  11. [ QUOTE ]
I just tried to make a new character to team up with a new character of my fiances and in short I couldn't find an available name. Literally.

We just spent more then an hour looking for names and logged off out of shear annoyance.

At some point something is going to need to be done to free up some names and doubly so if we want new people to be able to come to the game because the situation as it stands is absurd.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What kind of names were you trying? Fire <fill in the blank>?
    Super <whatever>?

Yes, a lot of names that include some very overworked nouns and adjectives might not be available, but that doesn't mean there are NO names available.

If you want us to throw suggestons out there, what AT? What Powersets? Any particular origins or backgrounds?

For example, just this afternoon, I started a new character named Southern Belle on Infinity (name based on backstory).

Or I guess you could come to the forums and rant....
  12. Well, it might be worth a quick post up in the Tech Issues forum to see if there is something they can point out as a fix. My hardware knowledge is pretty limited so I can't tell you if you have a problem with memory or not.
  13. <QR>

Not trying to be mean or bash Freedom -

But if you keep crashing on that server, why haven't you made some alts on another server? I haven't seen any crashes recently - but I purposely avoid Freedom and don't have a single character on that server.

Is this a server issue (i.e., everyone on Freedom is experiencing such crashes) or is it your rig? I know that a while back I was having some lag and slow load issues that were solved by adding video memory. Until I did that, I had to avoid high-lag areas (like under Atlas).

As for the chat bug - annoying, but now that I know to expect it, I semi-automatically compensate for it by looking for it to happen as I chat and clearing accordingly.
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    Completely superfluous thought:

If they change the badges to read "Rocketman/Rocketwoman" and "Ironman/Ironwoman" based on character gender and then add the ability to change genders of the character, will the badge title change also?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Tested and reported on already.

IIRC, the gender follows the gender of the first costume slot thoughout, i.e., if the first slot is Male or Huge, it's a "boy" title.

Perhaps I can find that thread down in the Training Room.

I've been a subscriber a little over three years now, only now do I have a toon approaching 50 (a level 48 MA/SR scrapper).

I'd like to start IO-ing this guy out, but all the stuff I want is pricey. I've always mainly soloed, due to the off times I play it's hard to meet people who play regularly.

I've never farmed or PLed. Hell, I even missed the boat with all the AE Comms officer farms. Had a few characters catch a few levels that way but that was it.

So tell me what to do, how do people generate all the influence to buy these expensive IO sets? Running certain task forces? Certain missions to look for? What?

    [/ QUOTE ]

For all those saying OP doesn't play enough to get Inf at the levels he is seeking - I am assuming that's because he doesn't have a 50 after 3 years playtime. right?

Actually, it took me about that long to get a character to 50, and after 4 1/2 years of play, that's the only one I have.

Of course, I also have at least 60 other characters I alternate between.

Maybe I'm being a bit oversensitive here, but only having 1 level 50 does not necessarily mean not playing a lot. It means not playing that particular character a lot.

Anyway, OP, you have been given some good tips & pointers. I'm in the camp that sells any drop I don't need wherever it will net me the most Inf - market or vendor. I take that Inf I raise to buy other stuff I want. If you haven't been doing that since the time the markets opened, you are now behind and need to make some efforts to raise funds, perhaps by using Fulmens' post in this thread.
  17. I have to agree that I see new stuff that isn't AE coming soon - at pretty much the same rate it was coming *before* AE.

And the funny thing is that recently I have had a hankering to do a little MA as a change of pace and checked back into the AE buildings in AP & Cap. They weren't busy at all. I do play on the lesser populated servers, but this was so even on Infinity recently. That tells me that AE might be becoming just another place to go find stuff to do instead of the *only* thing to do.

    And I like that idea.

And to 60-month vet OP - if something isn't fun, don't do it. Don't let other players affect you so much.

We can all trade funny stories about Mewbs all day, but if you find one on your team so annoying that it makes the team more of a chore than a game, the answer is "quit team". Clueless players have always been with us and will always be with us. MA didn't bring them and we will still have them long after MA becomes just as "tired" as the old Hollows, or the 1-5 arcs.
  18. Midnighter's Club store, Cimerora & RWZ work as well.
  19. Hmm - I'm one of the "Americans who don't have plans", so I may be able to show up. I will know better later in the week. Here in Columbus, OH, the big fireworks is actually on July 3, and brings 500-600,000 people to our downtown - not at all my idea of a fun time, way too many people.

If I can be there, I'm not sure what I would bring, since I don't currently have anyone in range for XP - but who knows who might be new and in range by then!

Awesome idea for a fan video... Take each issue and do 30 second clips of the highlights. Be it new zones, new power sets, new features like getting salvage or combining it into an IO enhancement. It would make coming back so much easier...

Really Paragon Studios, this is something you should consider holding a contest for. Coming back to a MMO always gives you that feeling of, "I'm never going to catch up on the new stuff" and it does keep people from returning.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Or you could just go to Samuraiko's webpage and see what she has there - she does these videos with new issues all the time.

can you melt the some of the cheese to go on the popcorn? some people may want that now.

Ooh, I'll have to try that.

    Taking a break

Sounds like you have a very full plate, LM.

But I think some of us still want to see wedding pics, so maybe you will be back before then or maybe you can send them to be posted.

Good luck! Come back to us when you can!

    Task Forces

A couple of corrections about what you have gleaned about getting the Roman armor.

The way to get the Imperious Task Force (that's what the "I" stands for) is to go to Cimerora. That co-op zone is accessed through the Midnighters Club. In order to get into the Midnighters Club heroside - talk to Montague Castanella in the University Library and do his arcs.

Cimerora is open to characters level 35 and above who have access to the Midnighters Club. There is also other content to do there including story arcs for both blue & red and repeatable content from a contact.

The Midnighters Club arcs are accessible to characters at level 10, even though you can't get to Cimerora until level 35.

alright, but this is the only time im bringing the hershey bars and graham crackers to make s'mores.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thanks, Sharker - you are the host with the most!

OP, sorry for all the snark in the thread, but we really have discussed this sooooo many times - and in fact some of what you want to discuss (the effect of AE on the game) is being discussed ad nauseum (oops, sorry for the Latin, Ocho) in the Official Farming thread (started by our own Mod8).

The answers some have alluded to are that there are lots of zones. People are divided into those zones. Within those zones, people are mainly in instances, not standing around on street corners. There are two sides - hero & villain, Pleople are divided into those as well. Some people are indeed in the MA buildings doing stuff there - either farming of doing MArcs because it is still the new shiny for some people and there are a few outstanding stories in the MA (buried but there). Also, now that it's June, people are doing other stuff - vacations, etc., taking them out of game for periods of time. There is also usually a lull in activity in the period just before a new issue is released.

All of these points I have taken from the umpty million threads discussing this previously.

If after 5 years, the game isn't fun for you, then, yes, you should take a break. Come back in a few months or (not trying to drive you away) don't come back at all if you find something else you are loving.

This is supposed to be about fun, so really, don't do something you aren't finding fun. I hope you want to come back, 'cause lots of us are still having fun, but we understand if you have to go do something else instead.
