Yes, they do still team up.
Freedom is the highest pop. Servers are arranged as: Last logged on, then lowest to highest load at the time.
Other info -
With three or four years, you're going to have a lot to get used to again. (Closer to three years.) Inventions, invention sets and "IOing" a character (optional, of course,) the market, AE, new zones, PVP if you're interested... Just get in, roll a character and start playing.
Suggestion: Head down to the "Servers" section, poke around the various threads, read what's going on on each server. Get a feel for them. While freedom's highest population, I tend to avoid it - I find it a bit irritating.
Also, when starting a new character, don't get pulled into an AE group (Architect Entertainment.) Yes, you *can* go 1-50 there, but go explore instead.

Redside means villians, Rogue Isles or CoV, whereas blueside means CoH, Heroes and Paragon City.
People still team up.
Highest Population is Freedom, then Virtue. Log onto Freedom, then back out to the server selection screen. The top of the server list is the server you were just on. The rest of the servers are arranged from the highest (number of people CURRENTLY logged on) at the bottom, to the lowest current population at the second-from-top.
There have been a lot of changes.

There's still teaming, although a lot of people are concentrating on Mission Architect missions at the moment. The game is doing well, and they've announced an upcoming new expansion named Going Rogue for it. The dev team is up to almost 50 now.

Further warning: Lately there has been evidence that Freedom's higher population is not always a good thing. For the last couple of years, there has been a 'population cap' set in place to lock out more than a certain number of folks to prevent the server from crashing. Freedom has hit this cap at least once during every major event, and usually nightly during prime time on longer ones, such as Rikti Invasion weeks.
It should be noted that people are still able to log onto a locked server, but it is more difficult than a non- locked one, and the difficulty varies on a personal basis. Some people never run into the locked server indicator, and some can sit there fir five to fifteen minutes trying to get in.

One more thing regarding servers:
The capacity of the servers was increased a while back. This means that you don't see servers other than Virtue or Freedom go into yellow that often, and into red even less. A server with a green dot does not equal an empty server! It simply means that the server is under a light load. And while high populations have their advantages, they also carry with them, disadvantages such as lock-out during a major event, and the occasional gameplay issues due to the high level of stress the server is having to deal with.

I believe you meant to say Pinnacle. 
this is something i ask of most posters who return after a long hiatus, but check back with comments, this game has changed a lot since then, and while going rogue is going to introduce much more change, i always like seeing how people who have been out of the mix like the new stuff. but yeah, io's were big, so is weapons customization, day jobs, vet rewards, WINGS(superficial, but still a big addition), the revamped rikti zone(they look very different now, they unlocked pants technology).

I suggest you start on Virtue. It's the RP server, but they are a decent group of people there. If not Virtue, then Justice would be my second suggestion.
Infinity is usually rated as third highest population (behind Virtue and Freedom). Plus I feel the need to plug my home server just a bit.
Awesome idea for a fan video... Take each issue and do 30 second clips of the highlights. Be it new zones, new power sets, new features like getting salvage or combining it into an IO enhancement. It would make coming back so much easier...
Really Paragon Studios, this is something you should consider holding a contest for. Coming back to a MMO always gives you that feeling of, "I'm never going to catch up on the new stuff" and it does keep people from returning.
