    Who Will Die?

All of the Surviving 8 perish. Replaced with heroes with better back stories.

It should, yes. But that has more to do with the player behind the character than the amount you spend on IOs. Check out the Brute forums and see if there's a farming build for your powersets out there.

Please! Like I'll have any left over. I plan to spend it all on ale and whor...I mean, wise investment decisions, guaranteed to leave me with more than 2 billion in influence, and plenty to share!

  7. Soon, you will be able to completely play for free: no buying the game, no subscription cost. You can just download it from Steam or the CoH site, and play. However, that hasn't gone live yet, and we don't know when it will (though an educated guess is late September).

The tutorial isn't wonderful for a new player, but it's enough to get you going. I'm wishing I would have tried this game years ago now.

Also, the community (here and in game) is awesome. Even global chat isn't littered with too much silliness (for an MMO game).

    Thanks for all the help!!

Glad you're enjoying it so far! The tutorial is a bit out of date. Luckily, with "Freedom" coming up, we're going to be given a new tutorial area, and hopefully it's a bit better. It can't be much worse.

Still, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We have fun helping out here, and you might as well give us some entertainment, right?
  9. I think that Tankers actually have a decent range of offense, but I think that's a problem in a lot of these discussions across ATs. For instance, I often hear that Controllers will out-damage Defenders, but those people are talking about Fire/Kins, or Illusion/Cold controllers. I don't think that an Earth/Sonic is going to out damage any Defender.

When talking about Tankers, you've got everything from Fire/SS to Willpower/Ice (probably the lowest damage combo available to Tankers). However, you've got that same range in the other melee ATs. JB says that Tankers do less damage than Stalkers. Well, as a blanket case, maybe, but Stalkers also get drastically reduced survivability. However, a Fire/SS Tanker is likely to do significantly more total damage through a mission than the MA/SR Stalker that's also on the team. Having extra AoE attacks helps significantly with that. However, the Willpower/Energy Tanker (also single-target focused) might not do more damage.

As such, you have to look at the range of damage available to the AT, and find where the median is, and describe the AT around that. Fire/Rad Controllers might be considered "High" damage, but an Ice/Rad might be considered "Very Low." So what do you put Controller damage as? Then do the same thing for the other ATs. Once that is said and done, I think that "Medium" is a good place to put Tanker damage. Some combos can put out more damage than some Scrapper combos, to be sure, but overall, "Medium" is a good fit.

But basically, other than maybe including the CoV ATs in the description, I think it's fine how it is.

I wouldn't say they 'rank low' as JB suggested but 'do medium damage' would be better imho.
From the same area of the forums:

    Hit Points: High
    Damage: Medium

As I said, the description is fine.
  12. This again? The description is fine, and so is the AT. That is my opinion. Notice how I don't go around starting new threads about it all the time.

If you mostly solo, you might want to start off with Scrappers or Brutes. They do good damage, have decent enough defenses, and are pretty solo and new-player friendly.

First off, welcome to the game!

Secondly, it will force you to make your first character in Praetoria. However, every other character you make can start off wherever you want. I think that Praetoria is a nicer place to start, as it is a bit newer. But I'd say that blueside (where the heroes are) is probably the easiest place to start. However, starting in Praetoria (for now) will let you pick any of the basic character archetypes (ATs for short) to start with, which is nice.

    Harry Potter 7.2

    SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Saw it Friday night, and I must say that while I thought it was overall good (better than some of the other HP movies), I did feel it lacked a certain factor for me. I'm not sure if it's just that the movie felt rushed (which it did at parts) or it lacked certain scenes that I thought would have made it better, I don't know. McGonagall's fight scene was pretty good, but quick, and Snape's performance was fantastic. And while I get the desire to put the epilogue in there, I don't think it was that important for the movie.

But, like others in this thread, I think my biggest disappointment was not seeing the side of good being represented in numbers. It looked like the bad side had everyone on it, and the good guys were represented by a handful of schoolkids and the order. Where was everyone else? The parents coming back? The elves? The centaurs? Anyone?!?! All you needed was a few seconds of them all showing up, and then a huge fight scene from overhead. They must've had the budget for it.

Well, that and the fact that despite the Wizards knowing hundreds of spells, we seem to only see four ever cast in in the big battle scenes.

    SPOILERS OVER!

    Good movie.

Nope, just teleported myself there via the medium of Google Maps, it isn't a giant citadel of glowing white crystal at all.

So I'm guessing that Pentagon City isn't populated by a race of sentient 5 sided shapes either?

    Worst names ever!
Just to add to the disappointment, Crystal City has a Water Park. Except that it has no slides, and just a stupid waterfall. Worst. Deception. Ever.
  18. Also, you can name your child something other than Mary in Maryland. I don't know why.

Crystal CITY and Pentagon CITY are neighborhoods within the city of Arlington, VA. They were place names before they got incorporated into the larger city area, but kept the names. Likewise, I imagine that Galaxy and Skyway Cities were "cities" before they got incorporated into the larger Paragon City, but kept their names as nostalgia.

  21. With all of the past changes to the game having people complain that they'd kill an AT, I'm amazed we have any ATs left. I mean, Blasters, Tankers, Defenders, Controllers, Scrappers, Brutes, Stalkers, Corruptors, and the poor Khelds should all be dead by now, right?

Oh wait, they're not? Hmmm...must be some sort of reason for that.

Sorry for the snark, OP, but there's been a lot of AT-doom threads recently for some reason. No, powerset proliferation will not kill Defenders. They will still have the best buff/debuff values out there, and get their buff/debuff powers earlier. They'll still be around after this round of proliferation.
  22. Yes, you can, and they actually go quite well together. CJ allows you to move without the drift associated with Flight and Hover.
  23. The thing that would revive redside for me would be to make the contact chain work more like goldside. Stop making me do a mayhem mission just to get a new contact. If I want to perform some villainy, just let me walk up to a contact and start some evil.

Also, more contacts like Peter Themari could help.

And its always been my assertion that blasters are not useless they are just inferior to other choices, namely cor/def or scrapper/brute.

Though I do also think they are inferior to dominators, but I cant find the right way to word that, they just feel weaker, and its too hard to put that in any subjective way, so I dropped it.
Using your own logic, Blasters would be a better choice than the Brute/Scrapper on the team. Why? With all of the buff/debuffs provided by the support characters, the Blaster's higher base damage and tendency to have more AoE attacks would mean the Blaster would do more damage than the Brute/Scrapper.

Does this mean that Brutes/Scrappers are somehow "more superfluous" than Blasters are?
