Looks good, and looking at the normal cases themselves on the site, looks like they're pretty good cases to boot. The contest, however... is US only.
Agh, why you do this? -
The worst part about the Steelclaw AV fight is the unskippable 30 minute cutscene...
-
It's generally better to start an event early rather than start it on time. If there turns out to be some sort of problem, you might be able to scramble and fix it before the deadline if you start it early. If you started it on time... well now the event is delayed for a little bit while the problem is being fixed, and people will complain.

I think the assumption is because BaB is one of the "Surviving Eight". Why he is, exactly, isn't really clear. There are plenty of other heroes who survived the Rikti war other than them, so it's not as simple as the only eight who survived the war. So it's easy to assume that he has some sort of affiliation with the Phalanx... maybe as a partial or reserve member, or something... Otherwise, what makes him so special?

Quote:Sounds good. And hey! Everyone rushing to get on the server at the same time AND buying everything they can from the market will be a GREAT stress test!I come bearing tidings of good news:
For the purposes of the VIP Beta (and the VIP Beta only, so no, you can't keep them when we go live ), we will be seeding all currently active accounts with 10,000 Paragon Points, so you can spend to your hearts desire in the Paragon Market.
This will be live when Beta comes up tonight (fingers crossed, knock on wood, spin around in a circle and spit over your left shoulder).

Quote:And that's exactly the point. If some people who have already gotten to level 50 in this game and SHOULD by all rights know how and where to find things, but still can't for whatever inane reason... I don't think we can expect much from brand new players with brand new characters. Yeah, they MIGHT discover it a few months or even years down the road... but really, they should have it from day one. That just goes to show you that some people are simply as dense as a bag of hammers.
(Also, it's nice that it shows up for you, but if it doesn't work for everyone then it's still a bug. Not being consistent just makes it a more annoying bug, really.) -

VIP would be their new fancy marketing lingo for "people with an active subscription". So if that criteria applies to you, then you are part of the VIP beta!
I just want to know who I peeved off that I'm not getting closed beta invites anymore... :| -
Not reading the entire thread, but I just want to say, I love, love LOVE these changes. A billion times better than what we originally saw! This is just what I was hoping for, I think!

Though I do have some other characters, even some 50s, who definitely have some play time behind them... in the end it all comes down to my main.

Quote:My problem with this is that, yeah, looks a bit too much like hair. I kind of figure that's the intent, a soft downy texture to go along with the whole bird motif... but the problem looks like the hair isn't part of a suit, it's actually growing out of her skin. Looking at the pictures again, there doesn't seem to be anything under the hair/down texture, and you can see some bits of skin here and there. This makes it look like the costume is part of her, as opposed to just being a costume.Ok tweaked some more stuff for a very stylish option. On the lower part, the first pic is regular cut, it's traditional panty, and the second one is called Boy Cut, because it's almost like shorts.
or
So, I suggest making a slightly darker, solid colored swimsuit underneath first, and then drawing the texture on top. That would give a better representation that this is supposed to be a suit and not some really bad hair condition, I think. -
Quote:Most people don't want to worry about the inherent evil of everyday life, and how many thousand of unknown people they probably screw over on a daily basis (They're not evil, though, because they held a door open for a stranger once). All that aside, video games in general tend to be about escaping reality, and having a bit of mindless fun. So it makes sense that more people would want to escape the evils of the world and pretend to be the good guy for once.People believe this dreck?
You may think this is how the world works from watching movies and cartoons but honestly, the shrewd people who are willing to make the decisions that many can't (and that many would deem "evil') are the ones who drive our civilization.
Good is generally stupid and don't realize progress is made on the backs of their fellow man. -
Quote:My understanding is that you won't lose things you already payed for. Since Demon Summoning and the other new power sets were definitely a part of GR (as you couldn't use them unless you bought GR)... I'd be willing to bet that they fall under that rule. You mean like paying for Demon Summoning MM again when I understand it came with GR expansion I paid twice for.
So to me you should be asking - What would make you upset if you had to pay for it again?
A redname verification would be nice, though I'd be surprised if this wasn't the case.
Also, just so it keeps in the spirit of the main topic, it's possible some VIP players MAY need to buy these power sets to use them. When Freedom goes live, VIP players will get Going Rogue for free... but apparently not all parts of it. New players who go VIP or existing players who haven't bought GR yet will likely have to buy things like this. I VERY MUCH DOUBT that people who already have GR would have to rebuy them, though. -
Quote:It's worth noting that for a good chunk of the Going Rogue beta, Incarnate stuff (first two tiers of Alpha slot and related salvage) WERE in the game. But because of peoples reactions in the beta, they decided to put off the Alpha slot for an issue so they could put some content in with it too (the intro arc and the two new TFs).OK, see, this is where bad things and Fail happens. Allow me to explain.
If someone allows a person to believe something as fact when they know isn't true and they still don't correct them, that's bad.
A while back, Positron unveiled the Incarnate system during a presentation about Going Rogue with little more than "Ta da! Incarnates! And you'll need Going Rogue of course..."
He neglected to elaborate further. He also neglected to correct the people who honestly assumed the Incarnate system would be launched *with* Going Rogue, or that it would be released piecemeal over several years.
For over a year, he nor or anyone else on the dev team, corrected the countless threads by people who were stating how much they were looking forward to GR and the Incarnate system. Until a month before Going Rogue was to launch, after most people had already put their money down, did he "clarify" at last, that none of the Incarnate system would by in GR at launch and that it would in fact be spread over several years.
This irked a number of people, understandably. It seems impossible that Positron and every other dev and community team member missed ALL those threads over that previous year and only thought to clear things up at the proverbial 11th hour.
So, it's not like they were intentionally misleading people and keeping quiet about it. For a long while, Incarnate stuff WAS supposed to launch with Going Rogue. But that changed at the last moment... which sometimes happens with things in beta. -
Quote:Does this mean that whenever the server lags to heck and back, we can blame the person on the team with the most badges?Believe it or not, characters are a rather huge chunk of data to be stored. Remember you have to take into account all of the character data (badges, power, alternate builds, etc, etc, etc) for each and every character.
The amount of lines of data that just the badges constitute on some characters is rather staggering. -
Quote:Sorry if I was unclear in my phrasing. I in no way expect the devs to lower prices immediately post-launch (barring sales) unless there is a massive, MASSIVE outcry. However, I very much expect them to lower the prices pre-launch at some point in the Beta process (much as they did with the E and A merits). They kept hammering in the point that "The issue is still in Beta and anything can change" for a reason.Quote:And of course, as was mentioned numerous times with the empyrean/astral stores, if the devs lower their absurd prices to slightly more reasonable ones they end up looking like the good guys. It's much easier than if they raised the prices, which would cause players to lash out at them... which is why I think the current prices are as high as they think they can go.
When you're paying someone money outside of an auto-renewed subscription, each transaction comes down to an active decision by the player to pay money. Like it or not, the relationship between the customer and the service provider, then, is crucial, and if they handle prices in a way that comes off as trying to swindle us out of our money intentionally, then that's going to spawn a LOT of bad blood, the kind that doesn't really go away.
But yes, lowering the costs too soon after the issue launches (excluding sales) would make them jerks. I wouldn't be opposed to eventual long-term price reductions though (ie after newer, shinier things come out). -
The way I see it, the current prices we've seen of some shop items are kind of like what we saw of the Empyrean/Astral store items in issue 20.5 beta. The prices were set pretty high at first, and then lowered based on the reactions to them.
So right now the prices are probably about as high as the devs think they can go. Though there IS a chance they could end up going higher, I really doubt it. Chances are they're looking at reactions (mostly in beta, but here too to an extent) to the various store items, and seeing what people want reduced, and what people seem to be find with paying.
And of course, as was mentioned numerous times with the empyrean/astral stores, if the devs lower their absurd prices to slightly more reasonable ones they end up looking like the good guys. It's much easier than if they raised the prices, which would cause players to lash out at them... which is why I think the current prices are as high as they think they can go.
With all that said, I think the current prices we've seen so far are fine, IF you're counting the monthly stipend VIP players get. But... if I were a Premium player (or Free, but if they buy anything they become Premium too), I wouldn't come anywhere near those store items.
I really think the focus should be on if Premium players would be willing to buy these things, rather than if we would (with our monthly free points taken into account). The Paragon shop is really for them, after all. So I tend to ignore the free points when thinking about what prices are acceptable. -
Quote:Well, it could make sense in situations where the bad guys don't want to start fighting, or don't want to get heroes involved. With yellow targets the player has to be the one to shoot first. So villains can say "Just walk away, hero...", and actually give you a chance to just walk away!Well, it could be used in the Rogue Isles, where villains fight other villains quite a lot - but in Paragon City, it'd be kinda pointless, as we only fight bad guys there and not other heroes.
Of course, true heroes beat up villains no matter what, even if they're just loitering or not actually committing any crimes... but still! -

Quote:Did they use the same computer? I tried again on my laptop (using the same facebook account, no less) and got a second code to use on my second account. So it seems to me that the code is 1 per computer (though you could probably reset it somehow).Okay. I had two people I know with facebooks account do the promotion. Both got the same code, and the code was said to already be in use.
Anyone know what would be going on?
So.. er... no one abuse that or anything.
If they didn't use the same computer then... I don't know what to tell ya. -
I mostly use Facebook to keep up on what my sister is doing, since she lives on the other side of the country. Personally, I don't have much info on there. I don't have any silly apps or games added. And there's not much there to steal. And that's the thing about Facebook... people can only see what you're silly enough to post on there.
Don't post every minute detail of your life, don't install dumb apps that can compromise what info you do post, and don't accept every friend request you get from people you don't know. If you're smart about it, you have nothing to fear from facebook.
And then you can have an account with nothing on it (ie nothing to steal) ready to use whenever a promotion like this comes along. -
I see the promotions tab now. I just had to click on it, and I got a code. Neatness.

I'm mainly excited about CoH Freedom because it will let my friends who are still sort of interested in the game, but can't justify the monthly fee, to play again. And of course, I'd be able to play with them, too. I also play on Virtue.
If Virtue became a VIP-only server when CoH Freedom was released, I'd have to change servers in order to play with my returning friends. But then I'd also lose access to all the friends I've made on Virtue who currently play the game. That's one of the main reasons I dislike the idea of the VIP-Only server... why would I purposefully choose to play on a server that all my friends can't access?
If Virtue were made VIP-Only, I'd be forced to choose between one set of friends and another... as opposed to being able to play with both. This would be a horrible, horrible change, and would probably ruin the allure of the coming changes to me. -

All Lore sets follow the same basic structure. There's one Lieutenant Pet, one Boss pet, and one Support pet (forget if it's minion or lieutenant rank, but whatever). Depending on where you are in the tree, you'll get different combinations of those three, and different buffs on some (though you'll never have more than two of the three at once). With that in mind, coming up with new sets isn't that hard. Just need to come up with three pets... plus decide what/how the Support pet is buffing (or debuffing). Of course, there IS the issue of balance. The devs want all the Lore sets to be (roughly) the same level of power, so one set isn't clearly better than the rest.
With all of that said, we're not likely to be getting any more Lore sets soon. While it COULD happen sometime in the future, it probably won't be for a while. Other Incarnate powers need love too. And of course adding in new sets like Hybrid, Genesis, etc...
