It really depends. If it's for leveling, hasten is always nice. If you are a fan of combos, having them up faster if they miss is good as well. Also, with the changes to /Elec, I imagine that you'd want Energize up as much as possible. In the end, hasten is always nice, but never really "mandatory".
What do you want out of the build? Any more information?

Oh Fire Kin Master, you are a crazy one! I've been following this thread closely and, honestly, it's one of the most entertaining parts of my day.
And for all those who may be wondering, this isn't some epic troll. I recently had the honor of teaming with this legend on a farm and asked him this question while he was in the middle of fighting a mob with his BF ingame, BOObYMasTerR (or something close to that). They replied in unison that this was 1000% sincere and that he truly has the best build EVARRR. And, for the record, my non-purpled Arch/MM can keep up with his multi-billion inf build with ease. Anyways, since when is an "uber" farm build supposed to be about being able to handle extremely hard mobs. The whole point is speed and drops/inf/xp per min.
Honestly, there's no hope for this kid. I'm not sure if he even reads this, 'cuz he sure is oblivious to what everyone's saying....... -
Thanks for the build Forge. Just a quick heads-up, you're over the ranged and melee softcap by around 5%. You'd be better off dropping maneuvers and grabbing hasten for some added recharge.
That will put you under the AoE softcap, but you can just do something simple to help with that. There are a few other things that need to be looked at as well but, for now, this should add a little more rech.

Hey all. My DM/SD recently hit 50 and I'm looking for a good build. Now, I've done my homework, but most if not all of the AV soling builds I see use the PVP +def IO. I'm not willing to shell out over 2 bil for one little IO, so I was just wondering if any of you have a nice, fairly cheap build for AV soloing.
The most I really want to spend is 1.2 bil, but I have a little wiggle room there.
Thanks in advance!

Hey Elric, here's my Arch/MM build. I've experimented with different builds, but this is your best bet, especially for solo farming. It's relatively cheap and very effective. Although Nemu's advice is good, Explosive Shot is really only good as an IO mule (IMO). Unless you have someone reliably rooting the baddies, ES is just going to scatter the mob. In teams this means people getting pissed and in farming it means a slower run, but YMMV.
For obvious reasons, +Rech is very important as an Arch/MM. However, survivability can't be overlooked. I've had friends who've tried to build an arch/mm for pure recharge after seeing how good mine is in action but, most of the time, they just end up eating pavement. That's why I also build for the s/l softcap. You have no idea how useful it is until you try it.
So, without further ado, here's the build:Hero Plan by Mids' Hero Designer 1.601

Sorry for the delay Mylia, was buisy with RL. Here's a version of my build. It's fairly cheap because, to tell the truth, bots/dark functions just fine without a heap of shiny IOs.
I'm sitting at the softcap to s/l (with the 12% buff from my prot. bots), although it is unnecessary considering all of the -to hit going on.
**Just some extra information to help with understanding what is needed defense-wise when to-hit debuffs are involved, feel free to skip it.
Lvl 50 AVs have 85% to-hit debuff resistance, lvl 52s have 86%
So:
A Lvl 50 AV - DN + Fluffy should give a 7.05% to-hit debuff
A Lvl 52 AV - DN + Fluffy should give a 6.58% to-hit debuff**

Let me know if you have any questions, want adjustments made, or whatever!

Just from taking a quick look, the build seems fairly solid. There are only a few problems that stick out to me.
The biggest one is how do you plan on keeping the GM/AV's aggro on you? There's really no point in having softcap'd defense if the AV's smacking your bots around and ignoring you. Since you're not trying to cap for ranged only, hover is pretty much useless. I would take it out and replace it with a taunt from the presence pool.
Second would be that you'd get way more mileage out of Assault than Vengance as an AV soloer. Just swap them out if you can afford the end usage.
Tactics looks way over slotted to me. I know that you did that for the set bonuses, but there are many easier and cheaper ways to do it.
My Bots/Dark is an AV soloer as well with softcap'd s/l defense. I can't seem to find my build at the moment, but I'll throw it together later when I get home.

Quick question, anyone know whether the defense in the builds above was when 1 ally was in range of Phalanx Fighting? If so, then I'm going to have to rework all of these builds
-
Quote:Yup, Prey pretty much summed it up for ya. The one thing I will say, though, is that you'd get much more use out of hover than Air Sup. I personally prefer leaping to flight, so that's why I took CJ, but the extra defense is just enough to push you to the softcap.
I also have a DM/SD. I have some questions though.
Any particular reason why you guys chose to go with Against all Odds so late? I think I got it as soon as it was available or something. And I took the fighting pool early on as well.
Also, why all the doctored wounds in true grit? Is there a particular reason you didnt slot the three resistance slots there? or did you make up for it elsewhere? Or was it that you sacrificed resistance for something else?
I'm just trying to get a different perspective on how I might build my DM/SD. he's only 36 now.
Oh also, i went with the flight pool rather than super jump because I can get air superiority and then flight. I have another attack and then the travel power. This attack replaces the shadow punch I might've taken for the attack chain. I four slotted it with Kinetic combat. The target I attack can barely stay on their feet if they aren't too high lvled and a boss or something. I can even knock bosses down though.
Also, grabbing Air Sup to slot Kinetic Combat isn't all that helpful on a /SD toon....but that's just my 2 inf.
Looking back at the build, I just noticed something. Is mids showing the defense from Phalanx Fighting with one teammate in range? If so, then that would mean that I'm under the softcap and will have to redo this build again

Call me crazy, but it looks as if you re-posted my exact build Santo. I'm guessing that wasn't your intention, but thanks anyways.
Anyone else have some feedback?
-Alpha -
Hey all. First off, let me apologize in advance if this was posted recently. The boards lag my computer to no end (for reasons unknown to me) and search freezes it almost entirely.
Now onto my build. I made it in order to (hopefully) solo some AVs blueside, so that would be the main goal of my build. My budget is around 1 bil, so no purples, at least until the prices drop. So, without further ado, here's my build. Let me know what you think.

Hey all. After a recent respec of my Rad/Sonic, I was wondering how the build would look to all of the veteran defenders out there.
With my past build, I was able to take down both Battle Maiden and Bobcat solo in a fairly easy (albeit slow) fight. I found myself being hit much more often than I expected, but I thought that the RNG might just be hating on me that day.
My main concern for the build is hitting the softcap for ranged defense. Now, being that I'm no number-cruncher, I just guessed that something around 40% would be good enough considering RI's 47.5% to-hit debuff. Now, I know all about the purple patch, and that's why I'm coming here to ask if anyone has a concrete number for hitting the softcap.
I'll also post my build in case anyone has any feedback for me.

I'm not a real PvPer, so I can't comment, but here is your build to make it easier for others to look at.
Good luck.

It's late and I'm tired, but nothing stands out to me as completely horrible. It actually looks like a fairly solid build. The only things that I notice as 'bad' are some of the power slottings. But it looks like they're just IO mules, so it doesn't matter.
The one thing I will say, though is that I've tried /Mu in the past on my SS/WP and didn't like it too much. The main thing is that Elec. Fences doesn't mesh well with Foot Stomp. The -Kb negates the damage mitigation, which is fairly helpful although not life-changing. Unless you're using it as a set mule, it's next to worthless (imo).
I would definitely recommend Soul as your PPP. Great damage in Gloom and Dark Oblit and some nice debuffs in DN (of you choose to take it).
But that's just me. As I said, I'm half-asleep, so you can take what I say with a grain of salt.

Ok, so here's the build that you requested. It's a much cheaper version of the one that I was running with you, but still very effective. It has soft capped smashing/lethal defense and good recharge once you get some Siphon Speeds stacked up.
Let me know if you have any questions

Quote:Wow, sorry 'bout that. I just remembered seeing the flight pool when I was making that build.
I didn't actually have hover... I took fly because I had Air Superiority as a major part of my attack chain, so it seemed silly to take another travel pool.
Quote:Mu I took for concept reasons, despite the fact I know it's sub-optimal compared to Soul... I can see him tossing lightning bolts Captain Marvel style, but dark powers kind of don't fit him (He's flashy).
As for the build that you posted, it looks good. I only have 2 suggestions:
One is to slot Air Sup with Kinetic Combat instead to get a little extra defense (since that Crushing Impact wasn't really doing anything.)
The other is to get rid of Elec Fences since it looks like you won't use it anyway. I would put hover in as an IO mule instead, just drop a LoTG rech+ in there and you have a little extra recharge to help just in case you get debuffed.
It'll look like this

My only question is how much do you really use Air Sup? I liked using it as a filler while I was leveling, but once I hit 50 and got slotted, my chain was complete. Especially with all of this recharge, you'll never be left without an attack -
Okay, so here's the build. I've gotten hasten down to 117.4 seconds, so you are going to be a foot-stomping machine.
I kept the powers that it seemed like you wanted, such as hover and fly.
I've tried Mu in the past, but I didn't like the fact that it stops Foot Stomp's knockdown. That's why I put in Soul. Great damage and some good debuffs in DN. You really don't notice the end cost after a while, but it does boost your survivability.
Now this build will be VERY expensive but, once you have it, you will be amazing.
Just let me know if you wanted anything else in the build or if you want some things moved around.

Hey Paladin, this is just a quick post to let you know that I'll post a build tomorrow. It's way too late here and I have to get up at 5 AM tomorrow.
-Alpha -
Hmm... I'm not really sure what it is that you're going for in this. You seem to be trying to slot for ranged defense, but /WP gives none to work off of. One huge no-no for me is slotting that numi unique in anything but a passive. The first thing that I would do is take that out of there and put it in fast healing or health.
Right off the bat I see that HPT is under slotted. I like around 2 health and 2 resistance IOs in there, but that's personal taste.
Strength of Will definitely does not deserve more than one slot, let alone 6.
If you could give me more of an idea as to what you're going for in this build I could help you more, but right now, I don't really see it. With all of your set bonuses, you only end up getting 17.5 ranged def and 14 s/l.
-Alpha -
Quote:^ This.
Slot Earth's Embrace for heal and rech, not resistance. I recommend 5 slotting Doctored Wounds.
Find a place to put the steadfast +3 def unique.
Slot Granite armor for resistance as well as defense. Sorta like this:
Level 38: Granite Armor
* (A) Defense Buff IO
* (39) Luck of the Gambler - Recharge Speed
* (40) Gift of the Ancients - Run Speed +7.5%
* (42) Aegis - Resistance/Endurance
* (46) Aegis - Resistance
* (46) HamiO:Ribosome Exposure
Also, health seems a little over-slotted to me. I'm guessing that you just want some more set bonuses, though, so it's not that big of a deal.
I'd take the Rgn Tissue unique out of rooted and put in into health (Just take out a Numi enhance instead). Also, switch the enhances in rooted to Doctored Wounds, you'll get much more mileage out of that. -
Well, /WP is always a reliable secondary to play. It's a well balanced set that, imo, makes it much less painful to level.
As for a primary, I'm not really sure what you want. DM is great, and I'm sure you know that by now. If you want some screen shaking "KAPOW", "BAM", "SMASH" action, then Stone Melee is a great choice and provides some good mitigation.
If I counted right, you've only played 2 brutes up into their 30s. That's not too telling about how they'll perform later. If you want an AT that is soloing a mish full of +2 carnies at in their 20s, then It'll be hard to find. Just pick one brute, give it some time, and odds are it will be a beast once you ding 50.
Good Luck

I personally think that an Arch/MM blaster fits the theme perfectly. On top of that, you're not gimping yourself by choosing powers for a theme. It's a very powerful and fun combo endgame as well.
-Alpha -
Hey Charlie,
I personally dislike handclap in any build, but especially in willpower and invuln builds. It'll be knocking those mobs out of your RTTC, which means less regen. If it's really part of your concept or you just really want it in case of too much aggro then by all means , grab it. You should definitely slot it for stun, though. That's really the only way to get something out of that power.
On to hurl. Again, pretty much a 'meh' power for me. The animation it painfully long for not doing that much compared to your heavy hitters in SS. Like Deth said, if you want a ranged attack, look no further than Gloom. It can easily become part of your attack chain. The rest of the Soul powers are good as well, so there's no loss there.
I've always taken stamina. Even with QR, it's just too good to pass up. It really helps with things like rage and hasten crashes, but also allows you to turn on things like Darkest Night and not worry about it for a little bit.
Yeah, rage is really that good. A perma double-stacking buff that makes you hit harder AND more accurately? Sign me up! Once you get yourself slotted up, you really don't notice it anymore. At the low levels the crash is very frustrating, but once you get to 50 you hardly notice it. You can just time attacks around it and use a vet reward power (if you have it) to still dish out damage while you're debuffed. You can live without it, I guess, but it really is great once you get used to it.
Finally, Air Sup. I really like this power, but I just couldn't fit it in on my final build. It's a good filler at the lower levels when you struggle for an attack chain, but once you hit 50, it's complete. You can definitely still use it if you have room, though.
All thats left to say is that you are going to dish out a lot of damage and can take your share of it too, but under normal (normal being non-expensive builds) circumstances, you're not really great at soaking up alpha. To fill that small gap, you can take tough, weave, and go for s/l defense set bonuses. And as always, go for recharge in your build to maximize the ss/wp powerhouse.
Good Luck!

*edit* Were you looking for a build as well, or just answers to make your own?? *edit* -
Hey Enoch. After looking at some of your builds I have a small suggestion.
I have an arch/mm blaster as well and, like you, I went for ranged defense at first. I found it nice to have, but not as helpful as it is on my other toons that use it. The main reasons are this: Psychic Shockwave and Drain Psyche.
I found that trying to improve s/l defense was the way to go as you need to get into melee range to pull those two powers off. S/l provides coverage over many of the powers that you'll come across in game, being that they are the most common types of damage ingame. A lot of powers combine smashing/lethal with other types, (Bone Smasher's energy/smashing being an example) but you still have coverage.
Now, depending on your playstyle, my advice may not be necessary. However, I think that you will get a lot more mileage out of s/l defense, even if you're not in melee range to land a drain psyche. (YMMV)
*Edit for clarity*
I didn't mean to completely let go of the ranged defense, but I was just suggesting this as some additional padding. It would be very hard to softcap to s/l in this build, but even getting around 30% defense helps a lot.
I got very tired of faceplanting when going in for Drain Psyche around tough baddies, so I went to my old go-to defense bonus s/l and have had great results.
-Alpha -
So here's round two of trying to cram set bonuses and enhances into my build with no slots to spare. I was going to try out Orbiting, but just couldn't find the slots. I've never actually used it ingame, but I've heard about and seen the massive end drain and aggro magnet that it is.
Thanks again for all of the replies all. And also thanks for pointing out the 6 overlapping set bonuses Rainbow, it saved me many slots.
