Yet moar Archery/Mental builds

I can't decide what is my best option for lots of aoe and survivability.
Do I go for ranged def? Smashing/lethal? recharge? Something I haven't thought of? And if I should go with something like one of the builds below, are there any tweaks I should make? I don't have to keep the cold epic, but it looks like the most interesting and defensive.
I have enough inf for most good non-purples and the cheaper purples, though there's a lot of inflation now.

I would go for range defense. But dont make the same mistake I did on mine, and regretted later : cap it without needing to run hover all the time. Hover is not that handy in many situations (indoor missions especially), at least in my experience.

It's also possible to build it toward range defense while having a decent global recharge (let's say 50% at least). It involves slotting as many Lotgs as you can, if you can afford those.

In this case Frozen Armor is not that useful, and you dont need to run it : it's just a slot mule for a lotg (and the steadfast unique if you dont put it in Hoarfrost).

On mine I slotted a full Numina x6 in Drain Psyche (+3.75% range defense that are handy), missing accuracy is not an issue as you can easily get a high accuracy bonus from sets only. And DP adds largely enough endurance recovery, it's always better to slot it for healing in my experience.

Enoch, I'm working on an archery/Mental build right now also, so hopefully you will not mind my asking a few questions about your posted builds to help me understand a few more things.

On my first "Run" at the build, I noticed I didn't really take any of the mental powers except concentration, psychic scream, and sudual. Are these other powers really worth taking? I'm planning on using this as a bit of everything I would like to have a build to PVP with, and one to farm with using 2 different builds (if this is even possible)

Also, I notice you use a lot of the same set's (Positrons Blast) do those effects stack? For instance if you have 3 complete positrons sets on your build, does the set bonus's stack 3x?

I like having Tk thrust. It really helps getting melee mobs out of your face and the damage is double that of brawl, so it can work as a finisher for mobs with a sliver of life left. Also, Drain Psyche is nice to have as well. It's saved my hoop more than once. (It also removes the requirement for Stamina and Health in your build.)

Yes. Actually, it's the individual bonuses, and you can stack up to 5 of them.

Thanks for the builds. Took a closer look at your ranged build and adjusted it slightly for my purposes. Took out TK Thrust and added in a panic button should the aggro become too much. The recharge is much better and the attacks more fuller. Added some purple sets as well. With the addition of Time Lord and Predator from day jobs, it achieves, or at least nearly, perma-hasten without sacrificing range defense. Thanks again for giving me something to work with.

Here's a way to change a few things around a bit to cap without toggles. A little less recharge then (but the force feedback proc has always been nice for my melee characters and makes up usually for slotting for a different bonus than recharge in the power), and perhaps a little more end cost, but the ranged bonus may be worth it? You could move the FF proc slot to assault as end red or TI as steadfast res/end.

hm.. I might just use this build instead. It's not too different from my recharge build. Tho oblits and posi's rather than the damage purples for me (for now at least)

Sup Fellas,

I'm working on my Arch/Ment build (thx a lot for the mids builds and ideas!). I was wondering... I know archery has an inherent bonus to accuracy. Is having AoE's slotted with 47% acc and an acc bonus of 55% enough to hit high level mobs consistently? I'm thinking of lvl 54 Rikti's on mothership and lvl 54 bosses.

I was just thinking about maneuvers slotting and how even with all the toggles it wouldn't be much overall defense, around 10-11%. Swap maneuvers for tactics, shuffling the powers a little and 6 slot gaussians. Now you shouldn't worry too much about high level mobs. Though you don't even need tactics for them unless they have -perception or defense. And humanoid rikti don't have defense - just resists, except from guardian bubbles (16% def).

HitChance = Clamp( AccMods × Clamp( BaseHitChance + ToHitMods – DefMods ) )

AccMods = the power's inherent Accuracy × (1.0 + the power's Accuracy Enhancements + all global Set Accuracy bonuses)

accuracy mod for Archery: 1.155
set bonus: with purples in the last build, it's 76% extra acc, with oblit and posi instead it's 65%
accuracy enh in posi: assuming 44ish for level 40ish posi enhancement

total acc mod: 1.155 x (1 + .44(acc slotted) +.76(set bonus) ) = 2.541
tot acc mod with nonpurples = 2.41395

assuming they have no defense at 54 - the +4 base chance is 39%, so without tactics or aim/buildup: 2.541 x 39% = 99% (or 2.41395 * 39% = 94.144%)

With 16% def from a guardian bubble, it's 23% rather than 39%, x 2.541 = 58.4% chance to hit. But with tactics(11% for a blaster right?) it's 34% chance base x 2.541 = 86.4%

Hey Enoch. After looking at some of your builds I have a small suggestion.
I have an arch/mm blaster as well and, like you, I went for ranged defense at first. I found it nice to have, but not as helpful as it is on my other toons that use it. The main reasons are this: Psychic Shockwave and Drain Psyche.

I found that trying to improve s/l defense was the way to go as you need to get into melee range to pull those two powers off. S/l provides coverage over many of the powers that you'll come across in game, being that they are the most common types of damage ingame. A lot of powers combine smashing/lethal with other types, (Bone Smasher's energy/smashing being an example) but you still have coverage.

Now, depending on your playstyle, my advice may not be necessary. However, I think that you will get a lot more mileage out of s/l defense, even if you're not in melee range to land a drain psyche. (YMMV)

I didn't mean to completely let go of the ranged defense, but I was just suggesting this as some additional padding. It would be very hard to softcap to s/l in this build, but even getting around 30% defense helps a lot.
I got very tired of faceplanting when going in for Drain Psyche around tough baddies, so I went to my old go-to defense bonus s/l and have had great results.

This is the build I run with and I really enjoy. It pumps out a lot of damage with fairly high recharge and no end problems.

The four slots go in Subdual for the other Gravi Anchors.

I built it with teaming in mind but it's able to farm with great results. Maybe it will help with some ideas for yours. Let me know if you have any questions.

I have 164% recharge with my arch/mm blaster things dont live long enough to hit me multiple times. On a fun note this blaster is probably my favorite toon to play, especailly in team.
