*******, I love you guys. That's the most I can type before I feel stupid girl tears coming on.
-
Thank you. And to all the developers: designers, programmers, artists, writers past and present - thank you. 'Eight years' in means this wasn't just a hobby for me. It was a love affair wrapped in an adventure wrapped in some really hot spandex.
I hope to find another game one day made by some of you. We'll start this dance all over again. -
Going to spend the final weeks here running more Skype conference calls for time with my friends. I have other hobbies but none as intense as this. Gardening only goes so far.
Warning: nerdy fan-girl answer. I'll start shopping around in two phases. While I'm enjoying my final days here, I'll start looking around for a casual MMO to muck around in until "the next big thing" hits.
By that, I'm not talking about a perfect game. I don't need a WOW-killer. Something fun, something that is very community oriented, something that may be rough but has promise.
I started this game in June of 2004, my SG in December of 2004 and never took a break. It was my TV time...
So. My checklist for "the next big thing":
- Must be a new game. I want to be fresh and start with everyone else.
- Gotta actually have missions and trials. Things like Second Life would not be my cup of tea. I need an adventure.
- Must have a community setting. Where you can maintain a group larger than a team. Plus if it has private or group housing.
- Leaning to a big name. I want the promise (even if a small one) of it lasting a few years and not just one of a million start ups that will die out quickly.
- Prefer: Superhero, Real World/Modern, Sci-Fi .. (in that order). Just not an elves and dragon sort of girl.
Any suggestions? Post away. -
Skype: AngryAngelAra
I'll be running a lot more group conference calls until the servers shut down. -
It was a good eight years. Virtue was my first server and the only one I ever played on. For good reason, it had the best players: good people, great people, interesting people, funny people, challenging people, crazy people.. and yes, cat people.
Thank you all for being such a big part of my first and only game. As a game and community, City of Heroes and the Virtue server was my "first love" when it came to gaming. Hopefully not my last.
Thank you all. -
Solo:
- finish our SG bases, capping the item count at 20K each
- finish biographies, backstories, ten costumes per character
- finish running each arc heroside and villainside in Ouroboros on my mains. No gold star needed, just to have them each experience it their own way.
- learn to video edit
Team:
- no deaths challenge for every tf, sf, trial, itrial
- best time challenge for every tf, sf, trial, itrial
Community:
- return to some of the older events we advertised as "no reward": the dropship raids and hami nuke (just to see him melt)
- seasonal rp events. We've taken over a dozen players dressed to play the part for a live casino in the monkey club, holiday festival in the ski lodge, etc before. I really enjoyed the video premiere in the Vanguard base. Could expand that into a film festival.
- weekly events. I was musing over this idea this morning of advertising and hosting one-time rp displays. Different things: meeting in the GV tower Sunday morning for a sermon from the Mu. Maybe some Shakespeare in the Perez Park.
- start a base loan system. A lot of groups have beautifully detailed themes already. Constantly rotating temporary coalitions would be a way for us to "make" new zones in the game; visit the space stations and underwater worlds others have already created. -
My characters bounce around even when I'm not fighting. I'm usually on a Skype call with friends. The bounce is just OCD/ADD/ABC/123 energy.

Advice for anyone returning to the holy mothership of crazy:
- Bookmark the correct Paragon Wiki. There's two sites. The right one is your bible. http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page
- Take or make a friend. You can't be a newb if you have your own sidekick in tow.
- Re-start with what you enjoy. If you like writing, make a simple AE mission. If you used to PvP, go to RV and pretend you're badging.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
My actual advice for MJ:
- Ask NC to unlock every costume option on your account. It's free advertising for them and super swank stuff for you. You'll never leave. -
Hawt dog. Tempered Through Fire came in today. Done until i23.
hero - 1358
villain - 1357 -
Welcome back to badging! Now is the perfect time to start up again. New badgers have a huge advantage: there's far more support (tracking sites, programs, popmenus), the devs re-evaluated and lowered many *epic* badge requirements, Alignment makes most defeat badges a breeze, and the overall community's increased skill level (and incarnates) have made Masters more achievable with pick-up groups.
Advice for beginners:
- Register with a badge tracking site: cit.cohtitan.com and/or badge-hunter.com
- Set a mini goal every week(end).
- Consider the advantages of a badge partner. Defeats are easier and more fun with two.
- Add Wiki.cohtitan.com to your favorites.
After you finish off the solo stuff:
- Find the badge global channels for your server but also join any trial/tf channels.
- Make a habit of going early. Set aside that week's mini goal to run the new issue trials and taskforces when they launch.
- Check forums announcements once a week. Watch for notifications on scheduled event weeks (Rikti Invasion, Supernatural Event, Zombie Apocalypse), holiday events, and special Loyalty Reward badges.
Sure, there's a Supernatural Event every week but it's more fun when the zone is excited about trying for the badges.
- Check the Weekly Strike Target list every month. Each one carries a badge for completion. Some carry a "Master of" badge. Nice way to pace yourself on tf badges if the character has not run most of the content *and* receive bonus rewards. -
I didn't think people actually made all white (all black) retro-ish lairs anymore until I stumbled on this flash sale page.
So if you're married or have a roommate (*coughs* mom), there's matching Mastermind and minion chairs for that!
You can watch "the clock" together! The date has an auto flip function to make your nosey neighbors nervous.

Anyone else notice the "1" in the description?
For the "Jungle Pets 2 Bundle", I'd like a shoulder monkey and a jungle pony.
...
It could happen.
PS. No, I didn't draw that. I just realized it would be a terrible thing to find an inbox full of requests for questionable customized furry art. I found it on DA Go Jungle Ponies! -
[QUOTE=Energizing_Ion;4180486]FYI, the WSTs are now highlighted in purple in the LFG queue/tab QUOTE]
Found something odd about that and wondering if it's just me?
11: 47 pm CST right now. Logged into my heroes who have a purple highlight bar on *both* Sutter TF *and* the 2nd terravolta trial. If that was done to indicate what is next as of tomorrow, then it's wrong or the newsletter (listing 1st terravolta) is.
Logged in my villains and found the same thing. They have a purple highlighted bar over both the Mort Kal SF and the 2nd treespec trial. -
Star-crossed moment... my posting at 10:12 and Ukaserex posting at 10:16 pm CST means our tin hats were cosmically touching through space and time. He typed a lot more so I just hit enter faster.
PS. Please see edit in first post. Treespec should be tomorrow. -
Update, 4/3/2012: Yay. It's updated for the entire month now in the usual place. Please feel free to use this thread for discussions of WST choices, ligers, the Avoid the Green badge, or whatever you wish.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: found Tuesday's, thanks! Still curious about the rest of April. I run weekly speed marathons and prefer to schedule in advance.
Couldn't find it from Avatea's running list (which they still update), Wiki (not yet updated), or through other means. Also, I realize the current WST is highlighted in purple but found an error unless I'm looking at it all wrong. StarGeek shared the newsletter info listing the 24-33 (1st) Respecs -yet the LFG as of right now has *both* Mort Kal and the 2nd Terravolta listed when I log in a hero.... and *both* Sutter and the 2nd Treespec listed when I log in a villain. Were both highlighted in purple because the *2nd* respec trials are the live WST's tomorrow? Or is that a glitch with the *1st* respecs being accurate? << that was last night, now showing Treespec 1. Still curious on the rest of the month for scheduling. Thank you.

Quote:They all start out the same - loosely imagined and mostly unbiographed characters *without* special pedigrees, world trophies, elevated social standing or inevitable greatness. Any of those are too much investment for me to throw on a level 1 who may not last a day.Do you prefer to make characters who are just one of a broader category, or do you need your characters to be somehow inherently unique and specific and even perhaps famous for something?
I suppose it's all about attachment. The longer I keep one, the more we do together, the deeper I dig into their past and plan out paths for their future. We'll be running along, one will lead her first raid or grab an unusual costume choice a year later, when I'll discover it was because she hailed from XYZ or once handily defeated the infamous XYZ or is destined to be the sole survivor of XYZ. They become unique only after a serendipitous moment when I say, to my character in some unscripted internal voice, "Wow, I didn't know that about you!" -
From the original post, City needed 632 votes to catch up. As of now, the gap is narrowed to 429. Not bad!
-
Made a short lil link for folks to pass around in-game:

Edit: ... forgot to check current numbers. 524 now and there's easily a 100 CoH contacts on my Skype list.
Every once in a while, I get bored and the OCD drives me over the edge. Go Spurs! I mean. City of Heroes! -
What Sandy said..
Though, ran another right after with the remaining folks who didn't need sleep for work (or didn't care - I'm looking at you ). Trial before - essence timer not bugged. Trial after - essence timer not bugged. Just that one. Nice smooth run. Ah well. I jinxed us by saying it (that middle trial) was the last trial of the week to finish up folks alternative badgers. -

Phew. Done.
Now I can leave the country for a few days before i22 spins us into a new Mo frenzy. Grats all! Good work!
