  1. I'd rather be playing characters that can progress visibly (e.g XP leads to level ups) than characters that can take a random step to progression depending if the Random Number Gods are cruel or kind, doing content that I've done before many times (e.g playing for 3 hours and getting 1 shard, when I need 20.)

It makes more sense (and is more fun) for me to spend 3 hours playing characters where I know that working leads to new powers and abilities, with a chance of random recipes and salvage, than spend 3 hours playing characters that just have a chance of random recipes, salvage and incarnate shards. (Inf is steady, of course, but inf can't get those shards.)

Of course not. So why would a machine, even a sentient one, be evil when it destroys? It's usually down to it being made that way, or because its malfunctioning, or something else. But evil? Naah.
Maybe I'm not getting my point across correctly, so I'll use characters you know.

BODICIA decides she's had enough of someone, and starts tormenting them as a way to try and get them to leave. Bullying, basically. Evil if a person does it. Evil if a fully autonomous AI does it.

She's a machine, yes. But she knows right from wrong. She's not malfunctioning. She's doing it because she doesn't like someone.

Are evil people not evil at all because they were 'made' that way by environmental factors?

Mini robot pet? Woot. *thumbs up*

For a free thing? Yay, cool stuff. But I REALLY hope we do NOT see the vanguard pack becoming a micro purchase, simply because it's silly. I was looking forward to some new themed parts but eh.

And as for the animal pieces, cool for the people who use em. /e thumbs up. Not for me, but good to see new stuff.
The Vanguard Pack is a free booster given to all who qualify according to the dates given for active subscription, that unlocks the Vanguard Costume, weapons and costume change emote on all characters on your account from level 1, meaning you now no longer have to wait until level 35 and then get the merits to get the Vanguard gear.

This means you can save your merits for the salvage pack, incarnate salvage and other such things.

If that isn't a good thing compared to having to unlock it on all the characters you want Vanguard gear on, then I don't know what is.

    Also, free robot pet!
  5. Lucky number 7, baby!

These are awesome rewards. Thank you. I look forward to the Vanguard one most of all.

P.S: Will it be able to be purchasable after the time for getting it free?

P.S.S: Will the Shield come with it?
  6. Because the costume system we have doesn't easily let us do things like turn auras off (unless you force a combat aura, but then you have to be locked into an emote position and hit a combat key to trigger it, and it soon fades), remove masks/hats/capes and remove jackets, I could easily do with more costume slots for my characters.

Nachtbrecher could do with more, seeing as he usually takes his mask off when talking, and dons it for combat.

They create stupid or boring names (some of them don't even bother to think of superhero names, they use what appears to be a name chosen randomly from a phone book), and can't be bothered to create even the most basic background.
I have Jonathan and Amanda Wong, siblings from Praetoria. They escaped to Paragon City. Jonathan now works as a translator, and Amanda works in a store in Talos Island. They fight the Tsoo to save the place they've come to know as home. They're not 'super heroes', they don't have code names. They're just people with martial arts skills. Why should I attach unneeded code names and so forth to them, when those two do?

Same goes for Zahir Rolando, my roboticist, and his friend Maxine 'Maxi' Pound. There's reasons why they don't have 'hero names'.

    BIG EDIT:

They and Their work fine for gender neutral stuff. Example:

Sie replied that if sie wanted someone to edit hir background text sie would ask over Global

They replied that if they wanted someone to edit their background text they would ask over Global.
  8. I have to say, I disagree with the wording here:

    Quote:
With Going Rogue, we reinvented the game. With City of Villains, we reinvented the game. With the mission architect, we reinvented the game. And now with the incarnate system, we’re reinventing the game once more.
Going Rogue? Content + tech bolted on. City of Villains? Content + tech bolted on. Mission Architect? Content + tech bolted on. Incarnate system? Again, content and tech bolted on.

Maybe I have a crazy definition of the term 'reinvent', but for me, if they did the following, then I'd say 'Yeah, that's reinvention'

Improved the City of Villains, and especially the City of Heroes tutorials.

There might be a nice tutorial in Praetoria, but that's not 'reinventing the tutorial', that's just saying 'hey, here's a new tutorial, do this instead!' and leaving the old two to rot.

Improved the City of Villains, and especially the City of Heroes Issue 0-8 content.

We could start by trimming the fat on the pointless hunt x of y missions, the annoying 'go see contact B/D/PVP zone before I give you missions' missions, the tired defeat alls there for the sake of grind, and so forth. Some new mission tech was added to the CoH missions a long, long time ago. Why not see about getting around to that again?

I find it extremely jarring to go from new to old content and back again. Players go from shiny Praetoria into the level 20-30's, which does have some new content added, but then there's the 30 to 40's, and the hero 40 to 50's.

Adding is not reinventing! Reinventing is taking old content and upgrading and adding new features to it, for me.

Purples -are- Very Rare IO's. Oranges are Rares, Yellow Uncommon and White Common.

What the opening poster is asking for is more Very Rare/Purple IO's for the sets that don't have them, like Healing, Defence, Resistance, Fear, so forth.

Yep, in a weird definition of cynicism.

(PS, did you ever get back to that topic in the screenshot forum where you asked for costume suggestions for your mage?)
  11. Yesterday, after reading a post about gamer's resolutions, I thought I'd be nice and happy on the forums. ... NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

Happy New Year, 2011 will be a continuation of cynicism!
  12. Greeting of players.

Brief reflection on previous year, pleased with GR and i19.

Statement indicating that pleasing content is coming, but no mention of what, when or how.

Wishing players a good new year.

(I'm starting the year as I mean to go on, cynical!)

Same problem with auras at 30... I have a number of characters who looked "wrong" until they could get their auras, and it was just lame.

Same problem with capes back in the day, although now you can get shoulder capes as a Vet, and buy some capes... which sort of obliterates the ol' "Honor Hero 1" business now, doesn't it?

    Unlocks are problematic, for sure.
Capes from level 1: Valkyrie (Mac Pack), One Shoulder (Vet Reward), Origin Pack Capes (5 in total)
Auras from Level 1: Combat Auras (Cyborg Pack), Alpha/Omega (GR Complete Collection pack/upgrade), Origin Pack Auras (Forgotten how many)

The Aura mission in itself is rather stupid lorewise (Mages, power up with... uh... alien-plant-cybertech implant? Robots, power up with likewise?)

Not to mention military epaulettes that don't have spikes being locked behind the Task Force Commander badge.

I'm just one of these people that hates the game where customization is king, having options placed behind barriers restricting what you can make.

Hell no. I am fed up with Vanguard Merits. Give us a story arc to unlock it for the account -really, really, really- necessary, but I hate having costume pieces that'd work great for characters locked away till level 35.

If I want to play a futuristic knight type character with the Vanguard Blade and Shield... wait, I never can, because I start playing the character and just go "No, this feels off." And delete it, because it doesn't look as it should and won't until I'm level 35 + amount of merits needed to get both.

Same goes for Roman armour and the defeat enemy unlocks and so on.
  15. I will not spoil. I shall simply say this:

You are in for the greatest New Doctor Who special they have ever made, in my opinion. It's got all the slickness, style and fun of best Moffat epsiodes.

You are in for a second treat too.

The preview for the new series.

    Definitive Christmas watching.

    Enjoy.

You lived in my home city? The most awesome city in the UK? (Also said to be the happiest place to live)

It's a shame you've never gotten to see the castle when it's been snowing Or the cathedral. And of course, going to the market to get a hog roast or something to ward off the chill.
  17. If by change the animation you mean grant power/animation customization to power pools, allowing you to change from the basic kick to a more MA kick, then sure.

    Otherwise, no.

I've got characters that wouldn't suit an MA kick at all.
  18. Attacked Unity Vigil Member Makes Full Recovery

After a horrific attack on Unity Vigil member Eloise Preston, known by the hero name Tiger Dark, the supergroup issued a press release today stating that she is making a full recovery, and will be able to return home for the holidays.

Mrs Preston was stabbed by an unknown assailant on Talos Island on Tuesday evening, though was quickly transferred to medical care. Her attacker is still at large, but the Unity Vigil say they are confident that the criminal will be caught soon and turned over to the authorities.
  19. I yearn for Female Baron jackets from the magic pack. And the big hat.

    A New Sidekick

Congratulations to you both, and here's hoping much inf and good drops through life to the little one!
  21. So, you want the dev team to waste development time in making a port of the game to a device, intergrating touch screen and dual screen features, with access to only 3 powers with buttons (Which is half of an attack chain or less for some of my characters) and have people switch between using the dpad and touch screen?

... No. I don't think it'd be worth it, popular, useful, needed, wanted or desired by many.

She sold me on the galley kitchen.

    "It's rather narrow." I said.

"Think of it as very long!" She replied with a smile, gesturing to emphasis the length. She had a point, what I lost in width, it was made up for in length. With room at one end for a breakfast bar, and one of the classic American fridge-freezers coming with the property. Ice dispenser, water tap, the works.

Plus when I asked about putting decorations outside she kept giving me marshmellows. By the end I was feeling too full to even think of pressing the issue, and the laminate wood flooring with underfloor heating was -divine- in the master bedroom and en suite.
  23. So, with the winter event almost nigh, it's time for me to sit by the fire, open the Baileys and paraphrase a quote by a wise old woman.

    Zortel to Paragon Studios:

    Where's the Tree?

Seriously, in Paragon at least, there's no:

    Christmas Trees
    Christmas Lights
    Christmas Outdoor Decorations.

So there's not going to be frozen lakes or snow on the ground. Fine. Okay. But none of the things you always see in cities this time of year?

The city, as always, just looks sterile. Would it kill the studio to take some of the Ski Chalet art assets and... adorn the city with them? A tree here, some lights here, so on, so forth?

It'd be new, and shiny! And we all know how people love the newshiny.

PS: Here's a screenshot manipulation that a friend, Fanservice, did of Galaxy City. It's not got lights, but it has got snow, and IMO it looks right lush.

  24. Odd aside:

I find I'm more social when not teaming, as I then have the time to pause and chat in global channels while mid-mission, or post on the forums, or talk on IM programs and IRC and so forth.

When I am teaming, I find there's little time to stop and stare, or talk for that matter.
