Well Mod8 since you bought it up, I would like to add two suggestions:
    1. When someone sends a tell to a trial account allow them to use /reply to respond to it even though tirals can't send tells (I realize that this may be difficult technically
    2. When someone sends a tell to a trial account have some sort of auto-reply feature that gives the sender a "this person is on a trial accoutn and can't respond through tells" response.

Honestly, I blame other MMOs (WoW in particular). In many cases if you come onto the forum and make a post about having trouble getting the game running you will get nothing but abuse because clearly the game is perfect and you are an idiot. While the OP was somewhat aggressive I just viewed it as the inevitable reaction of someone who's encountered the less than tolerant communities of other games.

It does meet the minimum specs (according to NCSoft) so he SHOULD be able to play but as I mentioned above he probably needs to set everything to minimum.

Dr. Brainstorm would then be programmed to sell those enhancements on the markets at a reasonable rate so as to not suddenly flood the market, and at prices consistent with the current trading activity. He would do so randomly, so the person respecing would have no specific advantage to timing the market for when those enhancements got sold.

This would put those IOs back into supply, but they wouldn't profit the person respecing just as happens now. If this could be done, would this theoretically satisfy the basis for your suggestion?
Hmmmm.... an interesting idea. It would also have the advantage of removing inf from the system.
  5. I'll support the "Cat is correct" trend. If you look through the market forum there have been several threads that attempted to quantify drop rates and such based on people's log data.
  6. Q: How many Stalkers does it take to change a light bulb?
A: None, Stalkers prefer the darkness

Q: How many Defenders does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Just one but he'd rather buff the old one so that it doesn't die in the first place.

Honestly while server transfers do make some income I figure that the cost is less about income and more to make sure that you are really serious about changing servers. Limiting transfers to those who really want it means that you don't get people switching servers on a whim which can be disruptive to server communities.

I've been on full 8-man teams with no chop during intense action, and full teams with major chop during intense action. I see no correlation between current Server population/activity and current lag/chop. My assumption seems logical to me. Is it incorrect?
As I understand it, degradation in gameplay smoothness can come from three different sources.
    1. Your computer: basically your computer can't render things fast enough. This primarily manifests as a reduction in frames per second
    2. Your connection to the server (and heavy server load): in this case you aren't sending/receiving data as frequently as you would like to. This is when you start rubberbanding and get problems with powers that appear to have recharged but actually haven't (and vise versa), you also get choppiness from other players
    3. Other people's connection. In this case other people near you aren't exchanging data with the server as often as they should. The server and your computer display their best guess as to what they are doing but it can get out of sync with what they are actually doing and that when they start moving in a choppy manner.

So no, the server doesn't slow you down (unless it is getting overloaded) but teammates with a poor connection will move choppily which can cause other things to be choppy as well.

I still don't particularly like the power, although i guess the comments about only one melee are invalid. Also in devices both Trip Mine and Time Bomb take the role of melee attacks, in particular many devices blasters use Trip Mine as a pre-set melee defense. In this you don't really have any solid damage powers (except OSA which is very long recharge and a bit to good on a blaster for my liking). Even ranged Richochet Shot is a very out of place skill for a Manipulation set especially in a high tier. In general most ranged abilities in manipulation sets are controls rather than attacks, I don't really see it as a useful power for a blaster to be honest.

    (2) The proposed Web Arrow and Smoke Screeen Arrow are arrow-ized versions of Devices' Web Grenade and Smoke Grenade. The only power copied over from TA is Oil Slick.
    .
I get that, the question is why? Entangling Arrow and Flash Arrow are basically identical to Web Grenade and Smoke Grenade in function so why make a new power that requires new animations when you could port them over? It would reduce the new animations required and increase the parallels between the sets. Sure maybe the numbers would need tweaking a little bit (i.e. web grenade has is actually a better debuff than entangling arrow and flash arrow is auto-hit while smoke grenade isn't) but I'd say it's better to keep the animations and theme of the TA versions even if you switch the stats to be identical to the devices versions. The same argument applies to Tesla Arrow, why not re-use the name and animations from Ice Arrow if you want a hold? It's much easier to tweak the values than it is to redo animations.
  10. It's the same set bonus (has to match both type and magnitude to count, global IOs are counted seperatly). If you click on the set bonus button in mids it will have a thing at the top of the pop up if you're over it.
  11. I'll agree with the general sentiments expressed here.
    Origin themed power pools: good
Power pools restricted to an origin: bad

For example you could make a tech themed power pool (sort of Traps lite) but why restrict it to Tech heroes? Pleanty of natural and science origin characters along with a smaller number of mutant and magic characters supplement their abilities with technological gadgets and could reasonably use it.

I'm much happier keeping Origin as something that has no real impact on gameplay.

Well, you are barely above the minimum system requirements for the game which might be part of the problem. I'd suggest two things. First off update your graphics card drivers, the problem sounds like it's with your graphics card and updating the drivers fixes a surprising number of problems there. Secondly I'd lower the graphics settings to the absolute minimum and then test different ones until you find what works best. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any method for changing the settings unless you can see the UI.

EDIT: See Stargeek's post on the next page for how to adjust settings outside the game

Or a second brawl maybe. Ok seriously though I think that there are ways to fix Time Bomb without violating the cottage rule. The main problems are the 8 second interruptable cast time and the 30second delay which make the power annoying to use under most circumstances. The core concept of a nuke-level damage power with a long recharge is fine. My solution is to rename it Satchel Charge, give it a short range (20'-30') remove the delay and reduce the cast time to 2-3 seconds not interruptable.

I suspect that this is the root cause of your problems. First off, can you provide some details about your setup (operating system, basic spec etc.), we might be able to hazard a guess as to why the installer didn't work. Secondly what was the "fix" you found online?
  15. Ok, first thoughts:

    1. Web Arrow and Smoke Screen Arrow. Trick Arrow already has both of these powers, so I say call them by the TA names rather than the devices names, for consistency .

    2. For Tesla Arrow you say it's based on Tesla Coil, but I assume you meant Tesla Cage? If so, I'd prefer to see it changed to a weaker version of Ice Arrow. Again, I'd prefer to see the set copy from Trick Arrow when possible.

    3. I think that Oil Slick Arrow is to good for a Blaster set (especially if the damage is increased to Blaster levels). I would suggest either removing the debuff functions and making it a pure damage power (rename Fire Patch Arrow?) or keep the debuff and remove the ability to light it. I think balance-wise it should also have a smaller radius than OSA. alternatively replace it with Glue Arrow (another nice AoE debuff).

    4. Boost Range. I don't have a problem with this, it just seems an odd fit for the set.

    5. Ricochet Shot. I HATE this. It makes little to no sense thematically and the fact that the set has only one melee attack (and a multi target one at that) seems a bit odd. If you want melee attacks I'd suggest making them non-bow related and re-animate them to use the left-handed stance (which the bow uses). Personally. my vote is for Martial Art style kicks.

    6. Master Archer (stick with the more generic name). Well first off, I'm pretty sure that the eliminate interrupt portion isn't actually possible with the way power's work. Secondly I just don't particularly care for the power. I can't really say why to be honest but it just feels wrong for a Blaster T9 secondary power. Most Manipulation sets have a powerful melee attack or a PBAoE but it isn't universal. I think a better starting point might be to go along the lines of an armor set T9 power re-themed for a blaster. For example, give it moderate bonuses to recharge, damage and to-hit along with a large boost to recovery. But then follow the trend of One With The Shield of a 60-120second duration but then a very long un-enhanceable recharge with a small crash.

Overall, I think you have got a decent starting point. My main complaint is related to Ricochet Arrow, it feels out of place in the set. Either you need more melee attacks (at the very least replace Boost Range and make OSA pure damage) or it needs to be replaced with something else. Having only one melee attack just feels wrong.

For the record, here was my attempt at a TA themed set:

Also as a side note regarding this comment:

Utilize existing powers to minimize design effort
Something you might want to keep in mind is animations. In several cases you are copying existing power effects but in a way that requires new animations. From the devs point of view the animations probably take more developer time than deisgning the powers themselves so your set isn't as "low-effort" as you seem to be aiming for.
  16. I have two other suggestions:

First, make sure you read the Rule of Five:
    http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Rule_o...e_Law_of_Fives

Secondly, while IOs are very powerful it's very easy to slot them in a way that doesn't really benefit you. There are lots of things that can trick you up and there is a learning curve. Before you start spending inf/merits on IOs I strongly recommend that you design your build in mids' and then post it in the sub-forum for your AT with a request for feedback. There are lots of people on these forums who have experience IO'ing toons and can offer advice to help you avoid the stumbling blocks.

    Takin' A Break

I'm pretty much in the same boat as Obsidius. I've found myself playing very little over the past few months but I still enjoy the game (and I love the forums). I'll definitely be back for GR and I'll be in and out before then but I'm not really playing a lot. In other words "you haven't seen the last of me!"

My attitude was ambivalence. I was happy for the people who wanted it but haven't really used it myself. This is largely due to the fact that my characters are almost all using powersets that are either completely uncustomizable or have very limited customization options. In fact of my six characters only one powerset is fully customizable and I've left it with the default settings.
  18. Wow, is it that time of the month already?

Dr. Incedible, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you don't normally read the forums but this idea has been discussed many, many times and the general concensus amognst forumites is that it would be a bad idea. If you use the search feature you can probably find the last few threads on the subject (please don't necro them but they have the general arguments against it).
  19. Shuriken, given your post count I'm guessing you don't read the forums that much. In that case, you might want to check out the information on the upcoming Going Rogue expansion pack. It will includ a new Dual Pistols set.

The "defenders must heal mentality" is a hold over from other games where healing is required for team play. Yes, you will occasionally encounter a person who rejects Defenders that aren't "healers" and very rarely that is the right choice for the team but in most cases those teams are trainwrecks that you're better off not joining.

Traps is made of awesome and while there are a few skills that could use changes *cough*Time Bomb*cough* I'd much rather that they were fixed rather than just replacing them with a generic heal.

So use your traps, don't worry about the lack of heals and /e spit anyone who looks at you sideways.

Regen is a heal, it's just a heal over time. The problem is that Triage Beacon is not a very strong heal over time.

The defense soft cap is actually 45%. Above that it only serves to counter debuffs (or buffs on enemeies). Resistance can go up to 75% on a blaster before you hit the cap.
  22. My prediction is that the next new manipulation set will be Dark Manipulation. Dark Blast is the only blast set that Blasters don't have access to so they will probably get it next time the devs do powerset proliferation. Assuming that they decide to do a manipulation set at the same time doing Dark Manipulation would make sense.
  23. From what I can tell, the detailed info pane shows the effect of enhancements but not recharge set bonuses. I've cross-checked a few powers against Mid's on occasion and ht enumbers only match up if you ignore all bufs including set bonuses.

Oh yeah I remember that thread now. Personally my only concern was that the devs wouldn't update the pseudo-pets but they came through for me so: Yay! Traps!

As Garent said I think a lot of the concern was over the fact that it's a playstyle people aren't used to. There are plenty of people (myself included) who don't play redside and so had little experience with Traps prior to it getting ported. Add in the fact that it's got a lot of similarities to Trick Arrow a set which is generally regarded as a bit of an underperformer and people get concerned.
