Step 1. Do NOT install XP64. Vista supports FAR more hardware than XP64 does, and is way more stable.
Step 2. Use Asus, as they make some of the best and most stable boards on the market.
Step 3. Don't listen to Sorudo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

What he said. ASUS make some exceptional hardware, have done for years.

Recently I was having the same issue (using XP x64 and nVidia 177.66 drivers). Replaced XP with Vista Ultimate (x64) and the whole system is much more stable now. CoX still crashes out after a few hours (under XP this was about 5 minutes) but that's just driver instablility. Haven't tried Omega drivers as yet. Might be worth looking into.
  2. I still need a power set for my Grandma Death MM... posted this ages ago but couldn't find the link so for your consideration I give you...

    --== Old Ladies! ==--

Flick Murray Mint - Ranged, Light Damage (Smashing/Minty), fast recharge

The Mastermind flicks murray mints at the target causing light damage with a small chance to confuse the enemy with its bland yet oddly satisfying flavour.

Little Old Ladies - Summon 1-3 Little old ladies

Calls forth one to three Little Old Ladies (the second is available at level six, the third at level eighteen) to do your bidding. Little Old Ladies totter towards the enemy at a surprising speed, but they are still the lowest rank Old Ladies and only possess the most rudimentary murray mint attacks. However, they can be trained in more advance techniques invloving hitting enemies on the head with walking sticks. You may only have 3 Little Old Ladies under your control at any given time. If you attempt to call Little Old Ladies, you can only replace the ones you have lost in battle. If you already have three, the power will fail.

Berrate Youth - Melee, Moderate Damage(Smashing/Leathal)

The Mastermind hits the enemy repeatly round the head with his walking stick while ranting that the youth of today have no respect, causing moderate damage and with a small chance to disorient the target.

Equip Old Ladies - Ranged, Equip Henchman

Train your Old Ladies with more advanced techniques and weaponry. This power permanently bestows new powers and abilities to one Old Lady. The powers gained are unique and dependent upon the target. This power only works on your Old Ladies and you can only Train any given Old Lady once. (see appendix)

Bingo Night - Summon gaggle of women at bus stop (Calls approximately 10 old women)

Calls a gaggle of 10 or so 'Old Women' to come to your aid for a brief while. The Bingo Gaggle are not like your true Henchman. They cannot be given direct commands, nor will they appear in your pet window. You must select an enemy target calling these Old Women. The Bingo Gaggle are many, but they are very weak, and rather than attack the target they simply surround them and start complaining about how the bus service is not what it used to be, and what a nice young man the target is, rendering the target unable to attack and lowering its defenses. Although they will follow you, they are not as loyal as your Henchmen, and they will only stick around for a few minutes before wandering off to buy cat food.

Tea Ladies - Summon Tea Ladies

Calls forth one to two Tea Ladies (the second is available at level twenty-four) to do your bidding. Tea Ladies are armed with stories that go no-where about members of their family no one has ever met, which cause PBAoE damage over time. Their weapon of choice is an cup of tea, which they will spill over anyone in a large radius around them, and can be equipped to carry up to 2 at once. You may only have 2 Tea Ladies under your control at any given time. If you attempt to call more Tea Ladies, you can only replace the ones you have lost in battle. If you already have two, the power will fail.

Nice Cup of Tea - Full Heal Old Lady

The Mastermind hands the Old Lady a 'Nice Cup of Tea', restoring them to full health and restores some of her endurance. This power only works on your Old Ladies

Mobility Scooter Lady - Summon Shop Mobility Scooter

Summons one Old Lady riding a Shop Mobility Scooter. Simply put, the Mobility Scooter Lady is a killing machine. There is nothing subtle about her weaponry, as she simply mows down opponents having not seen them due to her dodgy eye sight. You may only have 1 Mobility Scooter Lady under your control at any given time. If you attempt to summon another Mobility Scooter Lady, the power will fail.

Upgrade Old Ladies - Ranged, Equip Henchman

Upgrade your Old Ladies with more advanced techniques and equipment. This power permanently bestows new powers and abilities to one Old Lady. The powers gained are unique and dependent upon the target. This power only works on your Old Ladies and you can only upgrade any given Old Lady once. (see appendix)

Appendix - Equip and Upgrade Details

    Equip Old Ladies

    - Little Old Ladies: Given Walking Sticks and tartan shopping trolly, Berrate Youth Attack
    - Tea Ladies: Given Tea Trolley and Tabard, Nice Cup of Tea Power
    - Mobility Scooter Lady - Given front mounted shopping basket (Improved damage/knockback).

    Upgrade Old Ladies

    - Little Old Ladies: Given Zimmer Frame, and 'Zimmer Charge' AoE Attack.
    - Tea Ladies: Steaming Tea Ern, and scalding 'Ooo didn't see you there' AoE Attack
    - Mobility Scooter Lady - Given a Clip On Rain Guard (improved defense), and Sonic 'rubbish horn' attack.

    E.V.I.L. Returns

Reactivated my account a couple of weeks ago. Might well hassle you for an re-invite if I'm going to keep playing this time ;o)

    E.V.I.L. Returns

E.V.I.L are just "teh secks" as the kids these days are saying. Well, the ones that can't spell anyway. Good to see you chaps still prospering.

    COH and Laptops

I mainly play on a desktop but I have a Dell laptop with a 1920x1200 screen (and a nVidia 7900GS). With depth of field and bloom off I play at native resolution at 30-55 fps (which is fine).

    Hey all.
... now I hear farmers like them sets also...

Play what you like mate. Poeple said the same to me when I rolled my Pitchfork/Dungarees scrapper.
  7. Is there a way of transferring a the recipe to another character (can you bid on your own auction or something?)

    Thugs/????

Dark is certainly the strongest secondary for MMs. The Heal and Res alone make it worth taking, and there are no fillers in the dark set, they are all good.

Having said that, if you are getting bored of Dark (I have it on 3 MMs and that's enough really!) Trick Arrow is surprisingly fun, and keeps you busy.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
bummer... I am liable to buy a new gfx card if there are 2 generations further.

That is rather fast... but better then this [censored].

    [/ QUOTE ]

Indeed. Having only just bought my 8800GTS I'm loathed to Ebay it and get a more expensive card. It perfroms so well with everything else. (Original plan was to slap another one in and SLI them up, but given what I've read about COX and SLI I think I'll give that a miss for now too.).

Any change of a Dev comment on this issue? If it could be fixed in COX code you'd make a lot of people very happy guys!
  10. Just to save anyone the bother of downloading them I'm on the latest beta version of the standard nvidia drivers (177.66) and it's still slapping me back to the desktop every 5 minutes or so.
  11. As I understand it, it's mainly effecting the G92 cards (Mine is an ASUS 8800GTS 512... I forget the exact model number but it was an EN somethingsomething).

COX is the only game I'm having any issues with, AOC, Witcher, HL2, Bioshock etc run just fine with everything set to Silly level graphically. Looking around the boards here there are some other games doing the same thing, I just don't happen to have any. Odd really as COX shouldn't be stressing the card in the slightest... gotta be a code thing somewhere, I guess in the dirvers.

It's also crashing out almost immediately when I try and change the FSAA setting (in COX). Might have something to do with it I suppose. Might fiddle about with the settings in safe mode to see if I can track it down a bit more. I'd be much happier if there was at least some error in the event log I could work with but there's nothing.

Currently I'm on the latest beta drivers (177.66) Haven't tried it with Omega drivers yet. Might have a look at that tonight.

    looking for a sg

EVIL are great. If I played more often I'd sign up with them again without a doubt.
  13. OK, on COV the whole thing just hangs after 5 mins then bombs back to the desktop (yes I have a 8800 GTS 500MB, I know a lot of other people are getting the same thing right now).

On COH about the same time in I actually get an error (which is says I should post to the bug forums... so here it is)...

  14. ... and loose fly and group fly and get teleport ally and teleport. It's a hell of a lot more useful.
  15. I find TA not only keeps me busy in a fight, but also has exceptional debuffs. Once a group of mobs is Glued, Poisoned, covered in acid and oil slick is set blaze by my Assault Bot's flame thrower there realy isn't much left to do other than watch them writhe and die.

Not only that but Ice Arrow is awesome, get it slotted with a couple of accuracies, 3 recharges and a hold duration and it's probably the most useful power of the set.

TA is a hands on powerset. No, it's not as "uber" as dark, but it's still very good. There is more to this game than getting the FOTM ultra power combination. If TA fits your character then you will have a lot of fun with it.

I have a thugs/dark MM and a Bots/TA, and they are both just as much fun to play, and just as effective, only in different ways. I've played both my MMs at top difficulty level since about level 20 and they both handle themselves fine.

Hmmm, trying to think which scrapper primary could be mistaken for EM? Given the banter, I'm assuming it was one with no ranged attack .

    [/ QUOTE ]

MA/regen. Don't know why I typed EM... still half alseep. I'll ask him the next time I'm in SC as he'll no doubt be "hunting" me, you know what the're like.

Now if I can just work out how to give my Stalker some robots, hmm and maybe forcefields too...
  17. My favourite recently was a scrapper (MA/regen I think) who after a long and protracted fight with me across Sirens ended up standing on the roof on the hero base next to a police drone with a sliver of health left with me hovering in the street just below line of sight of the drone. Imagine my surprise when after a pretty good fight, with no ranting at all (no, I didn't open with AS, not that I have a problem with that) I get...

GenericScrapper: ROFL... come get me stalker noob... not so #@$ing tough now are you noob!!!.

    Me:: 'Noob'?

GenericScrapper: Yes you... #@$ing cheap stalker noob, come get me, I'll fight you right here.

Me: I see. OK, but you may want to duck

2 seconds and 1 built up critical Focus later he is face down in the tarmac.

GenericScrapper: You £*$£ing hacker I'm reporting you, hacking your &#@$ing character to give it ranged attacks! No wonder you killed me you ^&%%ing cheater hacker.

If only real life would let me play CoV late into the night so I could play with the grown ups.

Besides, is Stealth+Hide enough to counter Tactics?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Not always, hence stalkers taking invisability too. Added to this Invis doesn't slow you down like stealth does, so it you are ust travelling around the PvP Zone Invis + Hide keeps you properly out of sight and at full speed.
  19. I just hate it when you go into the mayhem mission and all the longbow start whining about stalkers
  20. Spoiler that everyone knows about alert (but just in case ;o)

Given the story arc about Aeon tapping a demon and turning its dark demonic energy into electricity I think Bots/Dark concept fits in quite well to the CoV world. Robots powered by little chained demons inside them or something.

It still doesn't sit right with me - it's too much of a shoehorning them into CoV because they wanted something different to CoH but at the same time couldn't be bothered to come up with something genuinely new.

I'm not having a go at the quoted poster here, but I hear this sort of comment a lot on these boards and I think this is a little harsh.

It's not as if the developers for this game are all sat on a beach somewhere swigging Pina Coladas saying "Anyone fancy designing a new AT... nah me neither... balls to 'em... pass me the sunblock"

The fact is that a "from the ground up" new AT has massive impacts on balance, back story, game play, mission design and numerous other factors. This means it is a significant task involving many people, careful planning, testing and design. As players will always be demanding new content and options in their game, sometimes the best option is to offer to 1 part of the player base a slightly altered version of an option available to another part of player base.

It's not that that they don't care or can't be bothered, it's just in terms of development, testing and release times it's just not practical to bang a new AT out in every single update.

Give them a break guys, I'm sure they are trying
  22. TA gives you a far more active role (as Max hints at above). FF is bubbling every 2 minutes then letting you pets do their thing untill they need bubbling again, effective yet yawn inspiring.

TA will give you something to do right the way through a fight, glueing mob groups, debuffing, holding etc.

If you want more deffense buffs then take some leadership skills yourself and stack that with your enforcer buffs
  23. A stalker's team role (IMHO) is to take out the biggest and nastiest Mob/Boss in the group as quickly as possible, removing the biggest threat to the rest of the group. After that our role is the same as a scrappers. A team should always say who they think is the biggest threat and leave the stalkers to cut them into tiny bits leaving the rest of the team free to wipe out the next biggest target(s).

From my own experience after the Boss is lying on the floor I quickly check none of the squishies are getting pounded and unless I need to go and rip apart anything that they have aggro'd I'm off scrap the next hardest thing I can find, placating and AS-ing as necessary.

Echoing Stalkobot's idea, I'd lower Hide's defences, make it 'flicker' every 10 seconds or so, buff their other damages and lose a lot of AS damage.

    [/ QUOTE ]

This would kill the who AT IMHO.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Agree... If you are going to do that why not just ditch the whole AT and have Villain Scrappers... that seems to be what you want.

Stalkers are fine as they are, and (at least in my limited experience) heroes are finally not whining so much about stalkers in PvP and actually using tactics to beat them, which is exactly how it should be.

    Is it possible?

I found my Claws/Regen stalker much more effective PvE and PvP than my Dark/Dark, just from a damage output point of view. I doo miss the fear a little I'll admit that, but then I find focus an awesome power and of course the regen healing means I can scrap for much much longer too, which is more fun IMHO.

However it's all personal choice and I'll be the first to admit my Dark/Dark build may not be the best it can be as it was my first toon and I've never respecced.

To be honest I think most stalker builds stand up PvE wise pretty well from what I've heard. We are quoted along side MMs as the soloing class after all.
