Random Crashes / Freeze problem.

Hi, im having this wierd random crash/freeze problem with CoX. I am having this problem since the day i bought it (A week ago) and its kinda annoying now, for example when im making a character, or when im doing any sorts of missions. Even if im not doing anything at all. When it "Crashes" the screen first freezes and then it goes black. And when i mouse click it turns gray and get the 3 choice tab to cancel it, wait until it works or find the source of the problem. Actually the last option simply dosint work as it directs me to the microsoft site and says it dosint know the source of the problem. Oh ye, and like 5 minutes ago i decided to wait and then it gave me a clear error. Something about Runtime error C++ ? Or something like that, thanks for in advance.

This sounds very similar to my experience, within the 1st year of the game. The way I got around this was 2 fold. (1) I got broadband (2) I upgraded my computer.

I'm no computer expert, but a lot of my early problems were RAM related... you don't mention what spec your computer is? or if it's a destop/laptop?

You will need to give more information, before a better answer can be given. Have you contacted support at all?

I've had pretty much the same thing. My PC is 100% stable doing anything else, it's been primed for 17hours. I have no clue what's causing it as my PC was only built a few weeks ago. I also created a thread about it and didn't really get any answers. So this is kind of a bump!

[/ QUOTE ]Nice spec. Much better than my computer. Surprised you're having problems... the only thing I could suggest from that is :-
(1) Are your drivers upto date? (but they should be as sounds pretty new)
and (2) other people have had problems with vista and CoX. Can't help you with that one thou, as have no experience of vista whatsoever.

Sorry I couldn't help much more. What did Support say when you contacted them?

Brainwave. Just thought of this. Enter CoX in safe mode, then reduce your graphic settings, so that Water Detail and Bloom (in particular) are at lowest settings. This helped me recently when my game was responding poorly. However, this might not be your problem, but worth a try anyhow.

I am also having similar problems, although the occasional error message I am getting is that the graphics driver has stopped responding, but the symptoms are the same.

My setup is

AMD Phenom 9750 (125W edition dont ask what a pain that became) Quad 2.4GHz
ASUS M3A Motherboard
4GB DDR2800 RAM
1GB 8800GT
Windows Vista 64 Ultimate.

Any help would be appreciated. The OS is fully updated as is all the drivers ect.

Edit: So that you know the game runs smooth (lowest I have seen the FPS drop is in a big 8 man team and then it only drops to about 43 from 60).

I can play crysis on high settings with no problems and no crashing. Same goes for Call of Duty 4.

It only appears to crash whilst playing CoH.

Well the C++ runtime error is your biggest clue try Googling the error text exactly as its displayed, Vista is trying to tell you something the question is what .

Check all of your drivers are up-to-date especially the Graphics ones but it could be anything so do them all being a new PC does not mean its drivers are its components could have been on a shelf for a good 6 months before being built.

If you have two sticks of 2 gig ram you could try removing one of them, if you have anything else installed sound cards etc if the diver updates does not help then removing all of them may help even if you play the game without sound and it still crashes its all eliminating the many potential conflicts the PC has.

When it crashes have some diagnostic software installed and see how hot things are running CPU and GPU if your good with a finger try having the side off and touch the heat sinks NOT the boards themselves the graphics cards heat sink can be hot as in uncomfortable but not burning hot same as the CPU heat sink.

Best of Luck

I have the same problem and I run NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS

As you run NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT and NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX it is highly possible we have a gfx driver error here. Something that I occassionally get as warning during a crash like this.

Also seeing this problem after several hours playing

Vista Ultimate
Quad Q6600
Nvidia 8800 GTS 512
4 Gb Ram

Latest Windows updates applied.

Several common factors here

Vista
NVidia GPU
Quad Core Intel CPU
Lots of RAM

Guess its time to check the drivers are up to date.

Anyway Graphics drivers are currently at the latest version according to NVidia's site.
Would be nice to know if anyone is having this problem on XP

Things I found out.. (I an't even play for 10 min on my new rigg)

- Vista 64 is not going ok with latest NVIDIA drivers. The gfx crash is on one of the NVIDIA files in system32

- I actually get some blue screens ones in a while.

- NVIDIA forum states from other users with this problem on the 8800 gst 512mb that the error appeares in all kind of different games. Not only COX. But COX seems to have more problems with it then Age of Conan in my opinion / testcase.

As I had just bought all my stuff.. I have send my rigg to the shop so they can test out my findings. And see if there is a solution for it. My idea at the moment is that Vista 64 and the latest NVIDIA drivers have a compatibility problem.

Surely it would have been quicker to try an earlier driver version?

Incidentally, which driver version were you using? I just got a new rig, and part of it is an 8800GT...

I tried the driver from the cd.. 165 I believe.. and the driver from the NVIDIA site 175.16. Something like that.. The numbers are from memory.

Basically the same probs with both old and new drivers.

Hmm... I take it you're not running SP1 on your Vista x64 installation, due the Dutch one not being ready yet?

I have tried with (by downloading it from the site even though it isn't out yet) and without (after the re-install).

Both times I got the same crashes. It's not SP1 unless the official dutch version is repairing that which is not yet in the downloadable version.

I run a Nvidia 8800 GTS. I have updated too the newest nvidia driver.
AMD Athlon 64 x2 Duel core processor 4600.
Atleast 3500 Ram.
I run on XP Professional.

Up until this week, i have not had any crash problems. However today was the first day I experienced it.
I had entered a mission and got one or two smaller lag spikes at first. They stayed for approx 2-5 sec, then it was a little playing then another lag spike. Until the big and major one came. Now the entire game freezes. i am unable too alt-tab, however my skype call still works.
Then the crash comes. It is a bluescreen and a restart of computer. I fired up CoH again then finishes the mission and enteres the next one, then the same thing happens again.

Now this crashing thing started to happen about 4 hours ago. Prior too that I was hit by the ghost city bug a few times. And earlier today (i have had some marathon).. no problem what so ever.
Relogged and then finished the mission then went on another mission and got hit by another such crash.
I have done no major changes this week... not even smaller. Logically I should have had alot more crashes this week if it was a driver issue. This problem baffles me.

I get a similar problem, after an hour or so playing game crashes and my screen goes blank, I can hear the game sound looping but that's pretty much it, I have to press the computer restart button since I can't do anything else not even Ctrl+Alt+Del works).

It started happening since last patch, but then, I also downloaded the 175.16 Nvidia drivers for a 8800GTX at roughly same time. I tried reinstalling them but nothing. I'll try using an older version before petitioning and see how it goes

I have about the same problems on nvidea drivers 175,12 175,16 175,63 and 175,70.

The problem does not occur on 174,74 however, I cant use that driver due to a fan bug in the driver code.

At the moment I am running a leaked beta of 175,80 and it looks to be the first stable 175 series driver.
I would suggest trying that one.

(My setup is;

AMD Quad Core Phenom @ 2.21 ghz
MSI Geforce N9800GTX T2D512
ASRock ALiveNF5-eSATA2+
ST3500320AS ATA Device (465 GB, IDE)
2GB RAM

I run the game on Max settings @ 1600x1200 )

Hmmm, went back to 169.25 driver and so far the dcing problem hasn't happened again so I guess that the 175.16 is also bugged for Vista 32 bit

FWIW, brand new rig built over the weekend, consisting of:

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L Motherboard with latest BIOS
4 gig Corsair 800mhz RAM
nVidia 8800GT running latest video drivers

Currently running smooth as silk, not a single crash in ANY games so far. Never seen CoH looking so good, and smooth.

Nice!

I always smile at people calling them "rigs" though. It's not an 18 wheeler truck you've got there (but I suspect the fantasy that it is could be the reason they get referred to as such, by males anyway).
