Had afew over the last few days where loading up a mission and it will crash out Sandy and myself, or loading up my Charactor List.

I had played for a few hours on Age of Conan and no crashes whatsoever... For some reason COX (and using the previous info WOW) are having these crashes more then the newer applications.

It is also happening with several OS. If I read the forums correctly. Error are posted on WOW, NVIDIA, and COX forums.

Old gfx/drivers use from the applications in question???

At least it IS happening... And sometimes its a mayor problem. I am actuallu using my laptop to game now.. instead of my 1200 euro game station.

I get random crashes as well running on Vista Ultimate 64bit.

But it's a display driver issues for me, Vista tells me the graphics driver has stopped working and it has restarted it. It just kills the game in the process.

It only happens in CoX though, which makes it annoying.

Specs are :

QX9650 Quad core @ 3ghz
4GB ram
Vista Ultimate 64bit
8800 GTS 640mb version.

Using driver version 177.35. Atleast now it lets me use the Windows key to get back to windows, using the 175.xx version ment I had to power my computer off totally to resume operation.

Had my second one last night, display drivers crashing again. Definitely looks like an nvidia problem.

I am having this problem quite frequently, personally using 175.16 drivers (will not go to 175.19 as heard alot of problems so far).

I have the following:

Quad Q6600 @ 2.40
4GB ram
Vista ultimate 64 bit
Asus P5K
2 x 8800 GTS 640mb sli

I have completely wiped my gfx drivers and reinstalled, still no improvement. I also reinstalled windows last week so all drivers are up to date.

My screen goes black and i can do anything to get back into windows.

edit: i have active subs on WoW, AoC and vanguard, this doesnt happen in any of those or indeed any crashing/frezzing issues.

Try the 177.35 Red_Radiance, that let me use the Windows Key on the keyboard to get back into windows. Prior to that I had to power my PC down.

Well, CoH is known to have problems with SLi configurations; you'd be advised to disable the second card when playing it. It's had THAT problem for ages...

----------------THE SOLUTION--------------------

That worked for me, was to go to display properties in windows XP, go to settings, tick off "extend my windows onto this monitor" from my no. 2 screen/TV.

It made it all work, for now at least.

Before this I couldn't even make a character before it froze.

Hope this helps some of you out.

BTW
Before this I used ccleaner, and tuneup utilities. But don't think it was because of that it worked, cause didn't work before after I ticked of me tv.

BTW no. 2

My graphics card is a nvidia gigabyte 8800GT

Thanks Lou, however this is a different issue. The problem you describe is actually a known issue. CoH doesn't like dual displays, or SLi configurations. SOME people have gotten them to work, but more often than not, it'll just crash.

It's all a bit sloppy really, and IMO, at least part of the cause is down to CoH being an OpenGl game.

Hey all,

My first post, so its a shame it has to be a techy one.

I get the same problem.

"Graphics Driver has stopped working but windows recovered it".

Just kills my game every 10 minutes or so to DT, making it impossible to keep a mission etc.

Vista 32
8800 GT 512mb driver 175.19
3 gig ram
Asus Commando Mobo

Runs all other mmo's without problems. Its a shame as I love CoHV

Just as a suggestion, but it might be worth everyone having this problem reinstalling their motherboard drivers. Not video ones, the actual drivers for the main board. It could be some issue with them is causing this. Might be worth checking with your mobo makers as well, to see if they have updates or if there are any known problems.

I'll try the solutions you've been posting last couple of days this very afternoon guys, as this nv4_disp bloody file makes COX unplayable, only last evening 3 times blue screen detentions and 5 times freeze screen.

I just played yesterday for about 3 hours and now only had it one time... But it can be totally random and that I was now just lucky...

As this prob is know with the 8800 GST NVIDIA with us, WOW players and on the NVIDIA site. Maybe its time for certain factors to search what is the real problem...? I maybe a techy but's not my problem to find out why something that is there all over the world is not working.

From now on I will file a bug/petition with every crash. Maybe we should all do it.

ok so I rolled back to 175.16 as the problem happened with that driver but not as much.

It now seems that it doesnt matter what driver is installed it just happens when enetering/exiting missions (for me)

Its becoming much worse and is happening everytime. Its game breaking.

I am starting to wonder if it is something in the latest patch that has "enhanced" this issue. What I am saying is the problem was already there just the latest patch has made it worse as all my problems started since the latest patch with CoV.

How exactly did you do the rollback? Did you just uninstall and reinstall? If so, that's not going to help you a great deal. The only certain way to roll back is to uninstall, then remove all vestiges of the driver manually before reinstalling, or using a program such as Driver Cleaner to do it for you. The old free version 1.5 can easily be found with a quick google.

Yeah thanks I did use driver cleaner.

Also just ran in Safe mode for 40 minutes before any crash so safe mode sis help a bit.

Same here, upgraded drivers from 175.16 version to 175.19, and it took only 2 hours for nv4_disp blue screen to show up again.

As Liz said, I've been checking on the internet, there are lots of websites and forums, even the Nvidia ones, filled with people complaining about this bloody loop, but I haven't found any solution. I have been suggested trying a web called omegadrivers.net, but I'm at work atm so I can't tell you if there's anything interesting there.

yet to find anything that helps either im affraid.

I had a problem in the AoC Beta that was similar and turning of AA helped in the graphics menu but that was fixed when it went live.

Its strange how (for me) its just CoV thats doing it. Weird.

Given the recent revelations about possible design flaws in the G84 and G86 cores, it's possible this could be the root cause and not the drivers at all... Might be an idea to check your GPU temperatures...

EDIT: Okay, maybe not. Seems the 8800 is using the G92 cores, so shouldn't be having that problem. Only the GO's and the 8600 series cards.

well I done a windows update about the same time as driver update. (Vista) Maybe windows is causing it?

It would be nice hear a dev etc on this subject as there is no point me carrying on subing with this error as I cant play.

bt Gais_Minions.I have exactly your spec too accept a GT 512....

I am still experiencing the display not responding problem, and i have tried the latest nVidia driver.

I have now uninstalled everything and have re-installed using the omega drivers. I will let everyone know how that works out.

System is

AMD Quad 9750 @ 2.4 GHz (125W)
ASUS M3A Mobo
4GB RAM
1GB ASUS 8800GT
Vista Ultimate 64 Edition SP1 and fully patched to 11/07/08

As a thought for people to try if they are having problems...

I have been experiencing this problem for a while now and have been trying to figure out a workaround.

The best thing I can come up with so far is to uninstall the drivers and install either v163.44 or v163.69 (I think the second one is better).

I am suggesting this as these drivers both have worked for me in the game without a problem. As soon as I updated the drivers to the 170+ I started having the freezing problem.

I can't install the older drivers myself because I am getting multiple .dll errors when trying to install which I am currently trying to figure out.

Just may be worth someone trying to see if it resolves the problem until a proper fix can be found...

(I hate it when real work has to get in the way of gaming )

OK I didnt have any problems at all last night so things are looking up (Usually happens 2-3 times a night).

I firstly uninstalled all nVidia drivers.

Then booted my machine in safe mode (press f8 whilst posting).

I then ran Driver Cleaner Pro (As FFM said earlier in the thread 1.5 can still be downloaded for free with a little seach using google)

Then whilst in safe mode I installed the latest Omega Drivers (I downloaded them previously from here. At this point I should really point out that these drivers are unsupported by nVidia and if you have any worries about using them you probbably shouldn't) The reason I installed them whilst in safe mode is that Vista installs some stuff for the 8800 when it starts up and wanted to make sure I was using the omega drivers for all of the software.

Restarted my machine, and am running the game on max settings with 60fps and so far no crashes.

If the crash number changes I will post in here.

Thanks

Hi again,

I have tried using the 169 drivers with no success.

I have also tried Tuarus' method of using the Omega drivers.

I am still getting the same problem over and over again. Its usually about 5 minutes into the game now.

I have also developed another error message. Something about C++ Runtime error. Then I get the usual " display stopped working" rubbish.

/sigh

Its definitely since I installed 175.19 that it all started. It has changed something that un-installing the driver is not removing and installing an older driver is not replacing.

I use DriverCleaner Pro, in safe mode and with my AV turned off. Weird weird weird AND very frustraiting. A whole week of annual leave ruined.

Its only CoH that has this problem. My other half played sims 2 for 2.5 hours yesterday with not one problem.
