  1. Thanks for that Backfire, the screens are perfect
  2. Hi guys,

Wondering if someone can do me a favour. Does anyone have a screenshot of a character where one of the random passerbys is saying something about them (along the lines of "Did you hear about **** and how he took down the Freakshow".

I have a friend asking for screenshots from different games for his final year report and this is one of the ones he is after.

I have been running around but haven't been able to get the shot myself so far.

Any help would be wonderful (thanks)
  3. I will start this post by saying that I have downloaded the new installer and although I am not a big fan of the looks of it I can run the CoX from a desktop shortcut. Other than that the installation went without a hitch (x64 Win7).

However, I do have a question. Is it necessary to grant Full Control rights for the Everyone group to the Launcher and CoX game folders? My machine runs with multiple accounts and has the other accounts nicely locked down. Granting this right not only gives a chance for untoward things to happen from other accounts but increases the overall threat footprint of the machine.

Can someone confirm the minimum security rights that are required for the launcher and game to work correctly as surely it can't be Full Control for Everyone.
  4. Well its good that its not just me, but bad that it appears to be server wide .

Hopefully it will be resolved soon...
  5. I have found that over the last day or so, over multiple characters and multiple logins that a drop down menu is missing from my friends window.

The dropdown is the one that allows you to switch between friends, global friends, pact etc. The friend window appears with friends (or lack thereof) but there is no way to change this to the other windows so I can see who is online.

Is this affecting anyone else, or if not has anyone come across it before and can tell me how to fix it?

The server is EU - Defiant, if that helps.

I think, if it ever came to pass that they would class the ownership and installation of the game as illegal as buying it from a German shop. My brain remembers quite some time ago the first screen of installing Return to Castle Wolfenstein which stated a line along the idea of: It is unlawful to install or play this game in Germany. If you are in Germany please click Cancel to this installation (it was something along those lines and I might be wrong as I haven't seen it in years). They felt that they had to put it on the install even though it was banned from the shops over there.

Unfortunately it seems that the 'powers that be' in situations like this seem to have no concept of the way that the medium they are complaining about is being used. Just look at the 'Daily Mail' crowd here in the UK, the vast majority of the people reading that paper believe (because it tells them this) that in essense, all people who play videogames are evil and twisted and will kill you and (unspeakable word) your children while listening to Marylin Manson.

My parents think that gaming is bad and hope that I don't get into that sort of trouble (I am 31 and married, but they still think this because of the 'Daily Hate').

Politicians are the people who will pass this law, politicians who don't play games, because if they did the law wouldn't even get close to making the news...
  8. Now this is all very well and good having 10 pages of discussion on the various merits of the language of each country, but I am sorry, us Brits cannot really have a go at anyone over language until we sort our internal differences out.

For the first and last time, the thing that the burger goes in is called a bread BUN!

Its not a bap, its not a roll, its not a barm, its certainly not a chuffin' breadcake!*

When will the breaded product misnaming horrors end! My fellow countrymen, please let us all unite under the banner of the breadbun and focus our rage on other more deserving foes (which may or may not be french!)

One thing I would like to say though, that puts all the language changes to shame is the translation of 'f**ks sake'. I have a habit of saying 'oh for f**ks sake' when stressed and annoyed, which a Hungarian colleague of mine always translates to mean 'wooden chair'... Oh for wooden chairs...

*please note that in addition to the above, cake is made of cake, if its small, ITS STILL CAKE!, stop calling it a bloody bun you bloody Yorkshiremen!
  9. It seems a silly question and one that I know I should know but I don't and need to guess it before I run a respec on one of my toons...

Basically, does the hover power grant any form of protection against immobilize powers like it does against knockback (ie, you get flipped but don't actually go anywhere?)

I was wondering because immob protection seems fairly useful but I don't know if its worth using an entire powerslot just to get...

    Any thoughts?

Nice enough video, but I really hope that they have fixed the flag texture between the video being made and live... I am sure I will not be the only one annoyed at my country's flag being wrong...

Just thought I would let people know, I have been looking through the information on Vista SP2 and can see from the RC notes that this fix will be included in Vista SP2. Come April the problem should no longer affect people (unless SP2 brings new errors of course...)
  12. Ah its not just me then. I had thought it was something to do with my wireless keyboard playing up, but obviously not.

Yeah, I get the same issue with my nemesis staff and blackwand. I find that hammering WASD seems to make it respond quicker than 2-3 seconds though (although that may just be me thinking its quicker).
  13. Thanks for the replies, I ran through using the extra LS pools over the weekend before I dinged 24 and saw that the end drain was on the higher side of stupid...

Looking at the options and the posts above I have decided that the 3 slots will be much better used elsewhere.

    Thanks for the information guys
  14. I am making a start on my first VEAT and having had a look into the different options I have decided on a defensive Fortunata as the main build.

I have a question though, if I am wanting to use the Fort Leadership auras as buffs is it worth taking the Leadership power pool as well?

I am basically wondering if the Leadership pool is useful or a waste in this sort of build and if the stamina costs are within useable tolerances? (last thing I want to do is turn the buffs on and then run out of end after a minute).

Can anyone with more experience of this give me a headsup?
  15. Damn it, I almost managed to last a full 10 seconds before hitting buy now and applying the pack...I don't even own a Mac!

I blame FFM for this blatant abuse of my lack of willpower!

Next is to see if I can shoehorn it into working on Windows7...
  16. I certainly don't think its an issue with the mouse as I have always had exactly the same issue with my mouse and OS.

It worked fine with this mouse and XP but after upgrading to Vista I lost mousewheel functions for my MS Wireless Intellimouse Explorer 2.

Driver issue was all I heard by way of explanation and have unfortunately never got it solved.
  17. I applied this hotfix (along with another one recommended for this problem in mid December). Since applying it I have had a few stutters but no crashes as yet.

Finally the one big problem I had with the game has stopped plaguing me (YAY!)

Vista Ultimate 32bit with a 8800GTX video card.
  18. [ QUOTE ][*]Changing chat bubble color through the Options menu will not change the appearance of the player's chat bubbles in-game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Probably related to this but its different enough for me to point out.

While playing I have noticed that the colour of the bubbles for lackeys getting out of range have gone to the standard white background with almost black text. They no longer show the yellow and red backgrounds (which is vaguely annoying when fighting near the edge of lackey range)
  19. Necropolis

    chat bubbles

I am seeing a similar issue, have created a new toon to play for I13 and not matter what I set the chat bubble slider bar to I get white background, slightly off black text...

Haven't tried other characters as yet as I want to get some levels under my belt for this one.
  20. I have rolled a SS/Inv brute, have been playing him through the early levels of the game and am really enjoying it. I am looking at trying to take him the distance and am after a little advice.

I have looked at the defence and resistance numbers of the /inv secondary and have seen that defence caps out at 90%.

What I am wondering is if taking the Fighting power pool (specifically Tough and Weave) will make a big difference (or no difference) for terms of 'tanking'. Basically, in the experience of those players who know more about this than I, is Tough/Weave worth taking as a SS/Inv Brute?

Any help and suggestions are appreciated...
  21. As a thought for people to try if they are having problems...

I have been experiencing this problem for a while now and have been trying to figure out a workaround.

The best thing I can come up with so far is to uninstall the drivers and install either v163.44 or v163.69 (I think the second one is better).

I am suggesting this as these drivers both have worked for me in the game without a problem. As soon as I updated the drivers to the 170+ I started having the freezing problem.

I can't install the older drivers myself because I am getting multiple .dll errors when trying to install which I am currently trying to figure out.

Just may be worth someone trying to see if it resolves the problem until a proper fix can be found...

(I hate it when real work has to get in the way of gaming )
  22. I also may not be having the same problem, but I am relieved to see that I am not the only one with the problem that Nightmarer is having.

175.16, black screen and had to hard power off. 175.19, black screen and back to desktop with video driver not responding. I had it working perfectly on 163.69 but my computer won't let me reinstall that without throwing a series of .dll errors.

So yeah, a pointless post (sorry I couldn't be more help) but I would just like to agree with Nighmarer in wanting nvidia to give me a driver that allows me to play CoX without crashes...
  23. So I finally get around to creating my first stalker (dual blades/Regen) and have been running him around for a few days.

I find that I am enjoying the character and am having fun with the fights. I am also finding that it seems to be quite easy to get overrun if a mob turns its aggro my way.

So I am wondering if anyone can give me play tips as to how they think a stalker should play. I know its not the same as a brute, because bruting as a stalker will only get me killed.

Please help as I don't want to be one of those guys who everyone hates because he cripples teams instead of helping them.
  24. [ QUOTE ]
In any case, unless Jump Kick has gotten a major buff in one of the post-I7 patches it's lower overall damage over time than Brawl. Only recommended for concept builds, Combat Jumping is a far better investment. Boxing is a far better supplemental attack due to the speed.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Jump Kick wasn't taken as a concept and I don't think it has been buffed since I7, while levelling I knew I wanted to get SJ early and I needed either the kick or Combat Jumping. As I also was wanting another combat power so I could solo I figured I would take the kick.

Since then I have read more about playing a Fire/x and will respec for Combat Jumping as it sounds much more useful.

I guess its just a case of getting used to how a Fire tank works... Totally different to the tactic of the tankers I have seen who grab 4-5 different mobs and then stand there with a '/em dance'.
  25. I have played CoH for ages now and have taken the only toon I have really played to 50 at last (Rad/Rad Defender).

I looked at other archetypes (notably the PB) but couldn't get into it so I turned my attention to a tanker as they looked like fun.

I have built a Fire/Fire tank and taken him to Lvl12 so far, however I am finding that the play style of how a tanker works is still beyond me. The tankers that I had played with in the past were pretty much all Stone with Granite Form.

I avoided Granite because I had seen it so much but hadn't seen anyone play Fire.

Attempting to emulate the other tankers has done nothing but faceplant me... All I saw them do was aggro the biggest mob they can and allow the other members of the team to mug them while holding the aggro. I got Taunt and the first time I activated it a mob rushed me and KO'd me in about 10 seconds.

Treat me as 'teh n00b', what is the best way of playing a Fire tank? It doesn't seem to be 'stand and attract all aggro'... The only way I have been able to play him sucessfully is to essentially play him like a scrapper, which I don't want to do as I may as well have built a scrapper...

    The build so far:
    Fire Aura:
    Blazing Aura
    Fire Shield
    Healing Flames
    Plasma Shield

    Fire Melee:
    Scorch
    Fire Sword
    Taunt

    Super Jump PP:
    Jump Kick
