Quote:Ice Armor'd be a great set for Brutes. Not sure why you think it's a bad idea.Even with any unconfirmed set bonuses looming, I doubt they would be able to make you durable enough to take some of those nasty alpha's and keep rolling. Sure, you could T9 your way out of some things, but that won't help you all the time. I don't think/regen will work for brutes. Hell, I even think we will get /ice armor before we get regen.
Regeneration, however doesn't interest me unless they give Brutes Katana or Broadsword simultaneously or prior to the introduction. Then it truly will be min/max worthy! -
Quote:Shhh... don't make them nerf it!They're faster than that - the same as normal Fly iirc (but use less end) - but of course base flight speed is pretty slow at low level which doesn't help. What does help is the GvE jump-pack - boosts you to the flight speed cap for 30seconds, which is good enough for crossing most of the zones that aren't Nerva.
-
Hmmm... interesting. Testing seems to indicate you do indeed need to hit.

"<CoH directory>\CohUpdater.exe" -cov
Make a shortcut with that as the target. -
Quote:There isn't a need to ever have one person to soak damage for a team. There is definitely a desire, and there are people who do it better than others, but it's never necessary.[ QUOTE ]
I would agree with the above. Brutes are not tanks. I see so many people who think Brutes should tank and in some situations they can but what they are best at is Endless Fury based destruction and mayhem.
Each Melee AT has slight differences while similar in a lot of ways. Scrappers play differently too, yes you can play them like Brutes but they do not have the ugency of Fury.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not to side track this thread any further but what AT redside do you think is best to soak the damage for the team? I dont see any other ATs with Taunt implemented into their build.
Tell me that Masterminds and VEATs are better suited for the job.
I think AE really skewed how a lot of people perceive toughness to be evaluated. There just aren't any regular content situations where you can get hit by that many consecutive seriously damaging attacks. Aside from the end of the level 50 strike forces, I can't think of a single situation in which I'd prefer my Brute to "tank" over my Mastermind. -
I've gotten used to the Raptor Packs that are dirt cheap to buy. Don't bother with a Travel power at all until level 49 most times.
-
So long as you don't take Detonator, you're good. You could probably take it for Robots and not be too anti-heroic, but for the other primaries, it just looks bad.
-
For both Stalker and Brute, getting Defense high will be killer in PVE. Not really worth it to go for regen in non-Healing slots, but of course you'll have room for all the regen uniques. Defense is just more important though.
Oh, and Stalkers don't really need Quick Recovery in my experience. -
Mako's Bite is a great set. Regardless of how you build a pure offense Blaster, he won't be able to choose between offense and defense so well as one who's defensive can. The beauty of soft-capping is that you can Hover or stand out of the way when it's dangerous and drop (no activation penalty) or charge to melee whenever you want.

Looks good! I do have some thoughts that you may or may not appreciate, however:
For leveling up, Hasten is a poor choice until the mid-twenties, in my opinion. Stamina and some solid ENDX are needed to make it worth the cost.
Ice Storm should go in for many reasons, including the ones mentioned before.
I don't really see the point in Combat Jumping here aside from some combat mobility to jump in and cast Fulcrum Shift, but I think that Speed Boost alone, not to mention Inertial Reduction can handle combat mobility.
Freeze Ray is nice for leveling up, but with your level 40 respecialization, I highly recommend switching to Bitter Freeze Ray. This may be somewhat controversial, as it cuts way down on Ice's holding potential. However, I think the extra debuff and damage outweigh the extra hold potential, and you will encounter a lot of EBs/AVs from this point onwards. If you can swing both, it's really nice! -
Good idea, but they need to polish it quite a bit more before it becomes what the developers wanted.
-
How the hell do you get the idea that Inertial Reduction is a ghetto travel power?
Ice Storm is a very nice AoE. It does have an avoid attached, but it will slow enemies and it is worth taking. I'd like to see a build to comment more than that. -
You're getting your 5th powers soon, though they may not be the ones you mentioned.
I generally agree, though. Blasters either need a little bit more defensive potential from powers or more damage. Updating snipe and nuke powers seems like a good start! -
Quote:I'd be happy if they added a "Hold Position" command. This would mean that pets are not allowed to move, except when pushed or ordered directly to move by the Mastermind.brawl is useful especially when a melee foe runs into the middle of all my henchmen and gets pounded to death. If only they can get the AI to use brawl only if the enemy is within melee range... spose all this tweaking and changing of the AI causes just as many problems as it solves.
-
Why would you ever balance two powers directly against each other?
-
I refuse to play a Blaster without Hover nor soft-capped ranged defense, except as a leveling build. The world is just too dangerous!
-
Quote:I think that's going a bit too far. Arbitrary assignment of values isn't a great thing in a lot of cases, so unless you can hammer out a formula that includes all the anti-Fury secondary effects, I don't think it's a fair way to go.If the devs were turned off by the antifury Ice/Ice why not increase the fury values for Ice/Ice so that in Fury 2.0 the ice attacks build fury faster to counteract the fact that the Ice/ will slow the targets and reducing the fury built on their end?
I would kill a few babies to get an Ice Brute
I still think they need to peg Fury generation for attacking to activation times, though! -
Broadsword/Shield Defense is the most iconic, in my opinion.
Personally, I'd go with a Fire/Mental Manipulation Blaster. Retributive angel!

Level 40 Natural Blaster
Primary Power Set: Fire Blast
Secondary Power Set: Mental Manipulation
Power Pool: Flight
Power Pool: Fitness
Power Pool: Teleportation
Hero Profile:
Level 1: Fire Blast
Level 1: Subdual
Level 2: Fire Ball
Level 4: Mind Probe
Level 6: Rain of Fire
Level 8: Fire Breath
Level 10: Hover
Level 12: Swift
Level 14: Fly
Level 16: Concentration
Level 18: Blaze
Level 20: Drain Psyche
Level 22: Health
Level 24: Stamina
Level 26: Blazing Bolt
Level 28: World of Confusion
Level 30: Aim
Level 32: Inferno
Level 35: Psychic Scream
Level 38: Psychic Shockwave
Level 41: Teleport Foe
Level 44: [Empty]
Level 47: [Empty]
Level 49: [Empty]
Power pools are pretty set, except I'd probably take Hasten somewhere and drop Teleport Foe if you don't like that concept. Travel power and Stamina are taken conveniently, though your single-target won't be that interesting. -
Without support from the rest of the game, it'd be really difficult to get into PVP. Zero access to non-PVP sets would be pretty annoying to serious players.
-
Defense has absolutely nothing to do with Fury generation.
-
I disagree about the looks. Granite lacks any sort of personality, little though the armors may allow. Every Granite looks the same, and it looks bad. Yes, even you cool kids with your Dual Blades (soon to be Claws).
-
Probably a better system anyways. Auto-updates are user-friendly, but also user-dumbing. No real choice whether you need to upgrade or not and constant version checks with the server. Helps developers make updates more error-free, too, in my experience.

Psychic Melee.
Soon, the brain Brutes will rule.
