Quote:Agility for me. It pushes End rec, rech, and def to right where I want them.I wondered if this might be the case with Staff Fighting. Level 50, and haven't ran into any problems yet.
Haven't done serious incarnate mission/trial testing yet, but that's just because I haven't decided on which Alpha to go with.
From my experience in the end game most problems arise for melee ATs (Tanks are the exception) because of their secondary and not their primary. In the case of Staff, if you went with a Def secondary it actually helps with end game issues. Trust me, if claws or spines can get it done in the end game, then Staff sure as heck can. -
Quote:I am not normally a conspiracy theory person, but dang if it doesn't look like you are right. In fact in beta there were several instances where I was worried that it was too good, and commented on it.Staff does NOT have endgame problems. I'm not sure what is really going on here, but it seems like people are making stuff up as we go along here in an effort to get the devs to make staff OP. That is poor form and is not going to work.
I think the problem is there were a lot of bumps, and pylon tests, and very little actual play. -
Quote:I can say this is true. My build is posted already. It is the same one I tested the DA content with in beta. Bottom line it is a beast. While it may not have crazy st damage, it is like a weed eater with Adamantium blades with a vorpal enchantment when clearing minions and LTs.How can you say that you know?
You've not yet reached endgame and already you doubt it's ability to keep up, even though you don't yet have endgame experiences(with Staff) to base your opinion on. Until we get a larger sample of actual endgame opinions from different builds it's unknown as to how well Staff will do, and I'm betting it will exceed the expectations of the naysaying skeptics.
My play experience is not matching up with the low numbers and negative experiences of others. My Staff/EA scrapper is tearing through everything in it's path. On live, where I have not even IOed it yet. -
Quote:Saw what you did there, and I liked it.Staff is a terrible set. You can't solo with it and if you team with it all you're doing is leeching. I got kicked off of every team I joined with my staff brute and I couldn't understand why. Finally yesterday XxGokuxX clued me in after kicking me: staff sucks because it doesn't do any damage. It had been staring me in the face the entire time but it took the words of a sage for the last piece to fall into place. At once I leapt from my chair, somersaulted around the room and sat back down, my purpose truly clear for the first time: I had to reroll. But to what? Well, the one thing I'm sure about is that damage is strong. Another thing I learned one time is that fire hurts. I'm still trying to work out how to apply this information but I have a couple good leads.
-
Well, here is mine. I couldn't get all of my action figures in, as they go to the ceiling of the room. I collect this version of DC action figures, which even though carried by Walmart and K-Mart are harder to find. My wife tends to order them for me from the internet, and sadly not at the $15 price of the department stores.
The whole of the room is dedicated to my geekdom. With shelves of novels and comics behind me, and boffer weapons in the corner. This is truly my home within our house.

Well, the new mids is out, and staff is included. I figured I would share first. This is the build I played through the DA content in beta, and the one I plan to stick with on live because I liked the way it played. If yours is done, throw it up here and let's see where we are all headed.
The only thing that may change is Maneuvers or Assault at level 49.

I am in the same spot. T9 VIPs get the first, and everyone else has a way to get them later. I don't really see a problem with it. All the angst is just amazing though... oh wait, that was me over the Black Knight armor yesterday.
-
Quote:This is so not true. I post here every day.Whether that is super cool of them, a shrewd business move or possibly a mistake is for the ancient grazgul zemphlotts, and their infinite wisdom, to decide... Since beings of their kind never post here, we'll just have to argue about it amongst ourselves indefinitely.
I have a good one for those complaining. I am a 7 year vet, who has been subbed all but 3 months (lost a lung, wife let it laps), AND I have spent hundreds of dollars on points for the paragon market.
I think it is pretty cool that Paragon still wants to give something cool to those of us who do support the game. YMMV, but I have found in life that you get what you pay for. -

-
I will find much use for those parts. I actually thought the ones that were put on the boards were even better pics. I hope now that Massively has had their exclusive that Paragon will give us some better shots.
Also now that Zwill made that post that almost had my cry tears of joy, I will comment on the chain.
For years now I have been looking for that good chest option to go under robes, or the roman armor to get the Chain Mail look. It is now very cool that I will have just what I need.
My Tenchu look can be complete, as well as several other costumes.
The leather is still kinda...meh. But it may look better once I actually see it in game and what I can do with it in costumes.
Also, sorry for all the angst Zwill. :/ -

Quote:Oh it is there. A very Good friend of mine Fallenz may even chime in on it in a moment because he hates it so much. The taunt portion should be suppressed when energy cloak has you in stealth, but I have been told that is not working correctly.Mids shows the brute version having a taunt component but not the scrapper version, which is confusing me and stopping me from playing EA at the moment.
I have a nice DB/EA planned which will be in a wonderful position to take advantage of the crit proc in the 2nd ATIO set should it stay at +50% crit -
And to people who may be willing to work their.
When I was a medic I had the chance to visit the police station, and the county jail far more than I would have liked. I have been told that during my ministry time I will visit prisons quite a bit too.
I can tell you that Sirens are not constantly blaring, but they are still very lout because you have a large group of people who are mostly angry, trying to talk over each other.
Would be cool if that sound in CoX would go away. And while you are at it could you add fire trucks, ambulances, and police cars to the normal roads too? :P -
IF you had added power pool customization to that list I would have said heck yeah! The awesome thing is that thanks to freedom, a lot of that stuff can now be done outside of large issue releases.
New costumes, and new powers are things that we get almost every month now. How awesome is that????? -
Quote:No recharge bonus built in. I am a +rech ho. All the sets I named have +rech built into the set. I think the Staff is going to function great with Nin also.Hey, Z, quick question to you (and due to the public nature of this medium, everyone else) - why isn't Willpower listed as a complimentary set?
I am genuinely curious, as that's what I've teamed SF with on my Stalker, but am only level 7 so although I've thoroughly enjoyed it, and haven't come close to death, still don't have a very clear idea how well it will perform in terms of survivability or damage output once I get to 50 and slot him with IOs (not the super expensive ones - just run of the mill IOs).
And before the influx of 'why didn't you go with Ice?', it may sound petty, but I hate the look of the set. I'm not a min/maxer, even though the above question suggests I am. If I can't stand looking at a set, I don't see how I could play the character for 50 levels
I agree about Ice. It needs and FX update in a very very bad way. I hope some of what we see on the creatures in DA make it into a new look for ice armor. -
Quote:It should also be taken into consideration who is saying this stuff. Seriously, I played the set from 1-34 bump to 38 played to 45 and bumped to 50. There is nothing wring with this set. I waltzed through DA street sweeping to test solo ixp rates. With only alpha (I ran agility with /EA) I was ripping through everything in my path.Sorry for jumping on you like that, I've just been annoyed by the fact that everyone has taken your brute pylon time as incontrovertible evidence that the set is completely horrible in all ways. As you yourself would no doubt say, there is more to life than ST DPS. Somehow the fact that staff's AOE is actually quite excellent is being completely ignored in the stampede of negativity. Microcosm's point that 228 DPS isn't even that bad has been ignored even more totally than that. Some might say that those perpetuating this specious argument are simply ignorant but I suspect some of them know better and are fishing for mass anti-staff sentiment and ensuing buffs. What a pylon time does not answer at all is whether the set is good on the whole. Nevertheless, your pylon time is being used to argue precisely that.
As I said on the scrapper boards, every time a new set is released we go through this mess. Most of us old players can do a build w/o mids. However I am never willing to judge what a set can do till it is released in mids and I can min/max my build through that.
I think those who are talking about how bad it is complain about almost everything any way, and are jumping the gun a bit. Tomorrow if I can dig up my stop watch I will run a pylon with my staff/e scrapper. Someone else will have to do the dps math for me though.
As for the versatility, I found no real reason to run anything other than form of the body in the end game. I brought this up several times in the feed back thread, but no one seemed to care. I will also admit that I was playing a secondary that made the +rech form redundant in most cases.
There is also more to consider than SM on it's own also. The secondary it is combined with is also going to play into how well it performs. I personally would not run it with DA, but that is because DA's such an end hog that actually having to level it may make me want to hang myself.
I think we are going to see some really cool things from staff when combined with SR, EleA, EA, and Fire. -
Quote:Yeah, that was some ugly stuff too. The term "Care Bear" still annoys the crap out of me. I will not even let my wife buy one for my girls because the term annoys me so bad.Replace the #'s with periods, it doesn't work otherwise.
Interesting read, you forgot one though:
7) Caustic attitude on the forums from pvp'ers towards non pvp'ers.
With that said....
As I said in the other thread I went to RV last night on Virtue to beat on pill boxes, and blow off steam. It was like 2:30 am and I didn't expect to see another soul. Well, there were other people there, and I did end up doing some PvP (on a KM/ElA scrapper even) and I actually had fun. There were no sore losers, or even worse sore winners.
It is something I am even considering doing more of. I know I want the badges for the Pill boxes, so the PvP will be unavoidable.
If the people who are currently still doing zone PvP act like the ones I met last night, it could grow again.
Also that whole trash talk in every competition is BS. My son is a competitive wrestler, one of the best in the state in his weight class. I am at matches during the week, and on the weekends. These kids never talk trash, and they are doing one of the hardest school sports there is. It is good sportsmanship.
I saw that last night in RV. If I see it next time I go, then PvP is something I may become more and more interested in. -
Quote:No, I meant to type def on one of them I think. That's a really cool idea Z. Just out of curiosity, did you intend to include 2 different stances that give +dmg? I'm not saying that Tiger style and Mantis style can't both give the same buff, but 4 stances rather than 5 does make for 20% less work for the devs.
I'd also expect that were this idea to grow legs, it would probably evolve into a whole new "Kung Fu" powerset that included a power similar to Swap Ammo or Staff Mastery with 3 different toggles to change your stance. THAT is something I would buy in a second and use to reroll one of my first scrappers.
In a perfect world this would replace confront in the martial arts set. There is rumor that there are power polls being made with the origins in mind. This would be a GREAT natural pool. -
Quote:Yeah it does.I don't mean to derail the thread, but I've been really looking forward to playing EA for the first time since it got buffed, now that I can pair it with Staff. I've been wondering, though, does Entropic Aura have a taunt component? Because I'm debating between Scrapper and Brute and this is what it comes down to...
Thanks in advance. -

Quote:Have a blast. I asked a question, I got my answers. Save your points for the set that makes you happy. And I never tried to silence the discussion, I asked a question, which usually promotes MORE discussion. What you feel. You -feel-. What you feel, and what actually -is- are usually drastically different.
Does buffing the set make it unfun for you? No? Then why are you trying to silence the discussion by saying 'It's fun so it works for me.'? The reality is that some of us enjoy our minmaxing and it's fun to get sets that look good as WELL as play well. Accepting less than that is fine, but some of us don't accept that.
Enjoy your Unicycle, we want a Rocket Bike. -
Quote:Except that is not what I did, and you may not have been replying to me specifically. See I played both TW and Staff to 50, I found one to be fun (Staff) and the other to be so boring it was like doing a chore (TW).Going into a thread titled "Staff Attack Chain" and trying to explain to the posters that attack chains and set performance aren't important is pretty much exactly the same thing.
Fun is a subjective thing. What you want to do with a set plays into that fun. Some people like big numbers, some people like flashy animations, some just like concept.
I personally do not feel that Staff is under performing, it is a fun set to me. It was fun leveling, and it was fun playing in the end game. I am still trying to figure out why I played TW, and the best I can figure is because it was there.
Take a look back through the scrapper boards and you will see there is a trend where every new set has a thread like this made about it. I remember people swore KM was crap bacause the animations were so long. People are not saying that any more. At some point, someone is going to come along and show something awesome that staff can do. There will be this thread "Look at what I did with staff melee!" It is just the way of things on these boards.
There are also some wishy washy people here. One moment screaming nerf, and the next screaming buff. I think all of the scrapper sets should be brought in line, and I am sure the devs think they already are all even and in line. :/ or they may be working behind the scenes to get them there, I doubt that though. -
I have over six thousand points currently in the paragon market currently that is more than willing to talk. I add at minimum $20 US dollars more every two weeks.
I Stayed up till 3am est (gmt -5) last night to buy staff fighting. As soon as my kids are on the bus I will log back in to see what else went up for sale today.
I am willing to pay for what I want. The devs are aware of this thread, the people in charge of such decisions are aware of it. Perhaps after the current powers in the works are done they will be kind enough to give us another poll on the issue.
OR
Someone going to Player Summit (Cancer is keeping me at home) could bring it up.
Also
If some going would be willing to suggest a power like this for me at the powers panel.
Right now we have ninja run, and beast run which allows us to fight from different stances. I know it is a bit of an illusion because we still go to the standard stance at the beginning and end of the attack, but it looks like we are fighting in a different stance.
Rather than just a straight up cosmetic stance, how about a power pool that has different stances, that do offer a combat benefit? Each stance would have to be mutually exclusive of course as it would change the way the character stands, and ninja run/beast run would also have to toggle the power off. I believe that tech is already in place though.
The order is just an example
Stance 1: +dmg
Stance 2: -end
Stance 3: +acc
Stance 4: +def
Stance 5: +rech
Each stance of course would need a fancy name to go with it. Tiger Stance, Dragon Stance, Crane Stance, Scorpion Stance.... What can I say, I like old Kung Fu movies.
