Quote:I worked my butt off getting to 50 on both red and blue side in order to unlock ATs. Now everyone new to the game gets them at 20, with barely any effort?I might be in a minority here, but I don't like the idea of the epic ATs being available when you simply get to level 20 as opposed to the cap 50. To me it makes things a little too easy and cheapens epic ATs a bit.
It sucks.
On the other hand though, people are PLing so much these days that most of them were getting ATs unlocked pretty quick anyway.

AND NOW FOR A MORE INPORTANT POINT
Are these servers ever going to come back up???! I really, really need to work on my base and I have limited time today!!!!
/rant over. -
I think they should just add an SG Wars interface that spawns a random zone to do battle in. Or give the leaders of SGs the ability to design two different versions of a base, that can be toggled for raids.
I like the SG Wars option better though, especially if it allows for Coalitions to assist your group. -
Please put the double doors back into the bases, or come up with the option within the editor.
They really didn't harm anything, and I really, really need double doors. You would make this subscriber very happy. -
Quote:Star, it does come turned off. For some reason it is placed right between the larger, but similar lights in the editor. Its the smallest wall light avalable which doesnt come turned off, but I wish it did! I added depth by placing some in front of others.
FYI, if anyone is having trouble hiding the logo on the blacked out banners, hang them backward. -
Quote:This has always bothered me. I think they should change the default to "Looking for Missions" at least...and then people can change it at will from that. The "Looking for team" message defaults to grey/Not Looking. Most people never change it. Send a /tell to them, they may surprise you. If they say "No thanks", just shrug and move on. If they freak out at you for asking when they weren't looking, they should have set themselves to red/Not accepting, and you don't want to team with that sort anyways. Move along and ignore their snark. And of course, as mentioned before, Global Channels are your friend. If you intend on staying on Freedom, go to their server forum, down a bit from this one, and post there asking where to find a good channel. Make sure you mention your interests: Badging, TFs, PVP, Random teams, Redside, Blueside, etc. That way, they can suggest the channels most likely to suit your interests.

Half the time, I get database errors out the nose on this one. I never know if a post will go through right away.
I just had to hit refresh 4 times just to get the boards to even show.
This forum was supposed to be more stable than the old one, but it's no where near so.
Please bring back the old forums. This one simply doesn't get it done. -
Quote:I have a Geoforce 9400 GT 1 gigabyte video card, a dual core system, WinXP (faster) and a 10 megabyte Internet connection and I could still not move in Atlas.some of yesterday's event felt like I needed to slide the graphics quality to Atari 2600 mode. And I'd just upgraded my video card too.
I felt jipped out of the badge, myself. I would hit an attack and 60-120 seconds later, I would hear it but not see it hit.
Couldn't even leave the zone.
The lag was so bad I actually got booted for inactivity at one point. That's just...harsh.
Graphics quality was all the way to the left as well...and I even turned Character detail to low, as the lowest slider setting is medium. -
Quote:The print screen key puts screen captures into your Screen Capture folder in the City of Heroes directory. Check there for a better quality image.Okay, I just noticed this last night, but when I hit 'print screen' to capture a screen shot and then went to Paint and pasted, I ended up with a black screen - no matter if I clicked on 'paste' or hit ctrl+V. I tired to past in Word, and got the same thing, a black box. I tired using the print screen button outside of COH, and it worked fine, it just seems to be when I try to capture a screen shot ingame.
On my old system (XP) I could handle screen shots from COH fine, could it be that I'm now in Window's 7 - and using Win7's Paint program - that's causing the problem? -
This event was horrible!
I have a 10 mb connection, a 1gb video card (which was set to minimum) and a dual core machine on WINXP...and I STILL could not do a thing at the event. I would hi an attack and 30-60 seconds later, it would work.
I types /sync over and over to no avail.
I give 2 thumbs down for the entire event. Very disappointed. I ended up getting booted for inactivity because of the delay in movement. That's REALLY bad! I can handle Rikti Raids and Hami raids with no issues at all.
And, I know people here will say "next time leave so it's better for the rest of us!"
Except I could not move at all...and I should not have to leave, should I? Sorry, Devs, you get an F- for this one. -
Quote:Thanks! I was wondering how people were doing this! You need to have permissions to edit your Supergroup colors. Change both colors to a light blue, the same exact color.
Then place Supergroup Banners. Ideally, use the Wall Banners, and using some lofted cubicles actually place the banners BACKWARDS so the logo is facing away.
When both colors are a light blue, the 'paper' texture of the banner should resemble water. You use the back of the banner so you don't get the solid non-textured supergroup symbol showing up.
Afterwards, switch your supergroup colors back. The banners should stay blue unless you a) place another banner of the exact same type or b) move the last banner placed.

Quote:Grats on becoming the base rep...I can't think of anyone better to represent us!I am building a list of things that our community would like to see improved in base design and construction. This could range from room/plot prices to issues with stacking or new creative units you would like to see. I have researched previous posts but would rather have it under one branch where we the community can hold a candid discussion.
I intend to compile this information and bring it to the attention of a developer who will be designated to bases. Feel free to PM me if you feel uncomfortable posting here. Being the base representative, I can promise that our concerns will be addressed because I too am a base builder and want some closure. I will be following this thread regularly.
I would like all of the items available in map buildings to be made available to bases, including textures, elevators and more.
Some of the maps we enter have some awesome stuff. The tech is there, all they have to do is add it to the proper database with pricing.
I would like to see multi-level bases possible.
It's been saught after for years. All they would have to do is make it a plot option: Hidden/Secure/2 Floors/3 Floors
I would like outdoor areas to be implemented, along with the features we normally see outdoors.
This would require the option of having a room as big as the plot where we can place hills, trees, tree houses, rivers...you name it.
I would like the Supergroup Computer to be overhauled.
It's about time it gave out missions. Maybe a mini AE interface that only SG Members and/or Coalitions can use. One that does not list the SG Missions in the main AE interface. This would allow us to create SG-specific arcs that ONLY members have access to.
I would like stores added to bases (optional).
To level up, change costumes, purchase items and more.
I would like a Base Tailor that provides the SG Costume Template.
It would make things easier for supergroups
I would like custom signs in the bases.
Signs or labels that we can stick on walls or place in front of items that describe things.
I would like popup maps and bulletin boards.
Everquest has a bulletin system where members can leave messages for other members. This would be great. Another feature would be a popup map that shows the layout of the bases with labels.
OR, allow the base builder to "waypoint" items in the base so that people can look on their own maps to see the labeled icons. -
If compatibility is the issue, and we need an off site solution, I may be able to help. I develop websites for a living.
Are there links to the two projects so I can learn more? -
Quote:You acting as if the current 60 month vets would feel cheated. I don't understand that.
Heck, yes, I would feel cheated.
Vet rewards are there for those of us that show loyalty to the game. Stripping us of them would be a smack in the face. Why don't you just fess up?
You are not a 60+ month vet and you want what we have, right? Then stay with the game that long...just like we did.
Don't blame us for having the rewards we've earned. Not everything can be gotten through you power leveling, you know. -
This is the last one I could find:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=143584
Now, I checked on some of those contributors...it seems some are no longer with the game (which amazes me because people around here claim the game isn't losing subscribers).
So...what happened to the City Scoop. Anyone? -
Drop the flourescent lights down to floor level.
-
I think the OP took a slight dig at me, since I was the one with the Museum idea. This also makes me wonder if "Elitist" was meant as a dig as well.
Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.
Either way, it brings up some good points as well.
Quote:Myself and others have been asking for functional and non functional npc's for years now. Many many years. I'd be happy to buy them from the base editor just like any other NPC, or even better use the AE interface to design them, give them a background story and a popup menu text when clicked on.
Functional ones I'd love be able to create using the AE interface.
- Tailor
- Fateweaver type
- Store to sell to
- Store to buy Insp from
- Trainer for leveling / Respeccing
- Market
- AE Employee
- PvP arena interface npc & arena match item.
- One who just stands around. Perhaps cycles through emotes that are ticked off of a window with set variables like when clicked or approached.
- One who paces around a room.
- One who paces/wanders/patrols around a base.
- Being able to set a group to patrol/wander around a base (using ae interface for group creation).
- Ones who sit or lay down on furniture/items in the base. (place invisible marker and set marker with some sort of interact trigger. NPC then uses marker and follows the set interaction such as sit/lay)
REALLY give bases a kick up!
As for functionality on a non npc basis I'd like to see the huge gap between start up base and power/control reduced to be reasonable for the very small supergroup or solo player. Something like...
- Create a Supergroup and gain a prestige grant of 200,000 (enough for oversite + room or two w/item and decoration.
- Jump from oversite center reduced. You go from 75k (oversite room + combo unit) to needing 375k (450k - selling the oversite+combo) as it is now.
- Upgraded combo unit (can only have 1 combo unit of any type) Cost 75k ~ 200 energy, 125 control.
- Add in Greater Magic Axis/Large Mainframe. cost 125k consume 100 energy gives 200 control
- Change Magic Axis/Mainframe. to consume 50 energy, give 100 control
Add in Simple Generator/Small Power Crystal. cost 125k gives 500 energy & 2 aux connections.
Small base upgrade would then be:
- oversite center + combo unit = 75k (125 energy, 75 control)
- oversite center + upgraded combo unit = 125k (200 energy, 125 control)
- control room + magic axis + energy room + simple energy generator (sell oversite & upgraded combo unit) = 250k (500 energy, 100 control)
- control room + greater magic axis + energy room + simple generator = 375k (500 energy, 200 control)
- control room + greater magic axis + energy room + generator = 450k (1000 energy, 200 control), then on to super computers for 500 control.
Side Note:
Add 1 more beacon to the single teleporter. One teleportation destination is silly as the room can only hold one teleporter. This too is a huge jump from 1 destination to 4 with a greater cost increase.
Base Editing Tools:
Really REALLY need an xyz axis movement tool from small increments to large along with a rotational tool to rotate at angles/degrees.
OTHER UPGRADES:
I was sitting here thinking...what would make a base fun? Well, basically it's an SG-wide spawnable zone, so we'd can make use of that.
Aside from the functionality issues, I think about comic books and how bases are used in them. I would love to see more decorative items like in the comics.
Another thing that Comics have are base raids. I'm not talking about PVP, I'm talking about the common, everyday criminal NPC group or such. And realizing this, I got to thinking.
What if they gave us a trimmed-down version of the Mission Architect that allowed us to design custom villains that would randomly spawn throughout the bases. The spawns could be handled just like the rikti invasion or the halloween spawns...where they are about the same level as the players fighting them.
I think this could make for some fun times.
Another thing I would add:
Arena Rooms - Various-sized rooms where PVP is permitted...but only in the rooms, and these rooms adhere to the old pathing rules. That way, people could still PVP in bases.
Another option would be an arena interface in the bases as well.
Decorative items:
Simple building blocks, various sizes. Horizontal, verticle and diagnal water.
Apply texture to items
Expandable stairs (click and drag, or digitally entered heights) -
Has anyone been able to get the water affect to display in a verticle manner?
I'm trying to recreate this and I could use some tips:

Sorry, Everyone
This idea will probably NOT happen now, as things have changed for me. It's a good idea though, so I'll leave it posted...maybe someone else will pick up the mantle.
Quote:I have been changing my base back and forth for years. Currently it has close to 90 million prestige.
I've been trying to think of a new theme, and then it just hit me. I want it to be a museum.
But not just any Museum
I want it to feature rooms by the best base designers in the game. One room per designer. So, in essense, I want:
The Museum of Elite Base Designers
But this means I need the elite base designers to each contribute a piece, one room each.
What my base has now:- Base is on Freedom Server
- The Largest Secure Plot available
- 2 Control, 2 Power
- All Badges (that I know of)
- All tech telepads, created as a long, two-sided hall
- One double door off the entry, which I would prefer to keep. It leads to a full-sized TP room. The room can become a decor room if needed, but it cannot be moved or rotated for fear of losing my last double door
- I have all the vet badges as well, for the personal items, and, in fact, there are a couple rooms with some stored there
- Just as with real museums, I must see previous work and approve you as a contributor. If turned down, please don't take offense. I am looking for the top designers to be featured, and they will get credit.
- You may not change to color scheme or style of the entire base, as this will alter other contributions.
- When all is said and done, and all the contributions are complete, I will list them here and people can vote on which is the best. That person will get a reward from me (a confidential one). There is not currently a time limit.
- Room must be worked on consistantly until complete. Leaving a room untouched for weeks will result in removal unless I am notified with good reasons.
- Room types are reserved on a first come, first serve basis...I will only have one set of Telepads, for example.

Quote:Off topic, does running -1/+8 still spawn bosses? So the past few weeks as I am working on getting purples with my level 50 MM Bots/Traps running mish'es at -1/+8. I have been noticing that last couple of times when I am doing Newspaper Mish'es in Grandville and then get the invite from Wiggy the Brit to do a bank robbery, that when I complete the mish (meaning I got the money) I normally will either wait next to the safe for the Hero to come or maybe even venture down the elevator to bottom floor and wait their but mostly, I will always wait next to the safe.
Well, the past few times I've ran this mish, it seems the Hero never showed up. I would eventually head to the lower floor and still no Hero. It seems weird that I have to go out and "find" this Hero versus them coming to me. So on the last Bank Heist I did, I did all the other task as I couldn't find the Hero nor did they come to meet me. My time was running out and I had about 30 seconds left then the Hero showed up. Needless to say, it was too late to take him out in 15 seconds so I failed that mish.
So, has anyone else ran into this issue? For giggles I did run this at the normal levels +4/+1 to see if maybe it had something to do with me going solo at -1/+8. Nope, the Hero still never showed up near the safe after I stole the cash. I really don't mind doing those bank mish'es but if that Hero never shows up, what are we supposed to do? Anyone else experience this? -
Quote:This makes me wonder if somehow your CoX is set to always run on top.Oh I'm using the crappy intel gma 950 card, with the latest drivers (I rechecked).
Actually when I press the 'windows' key the start menu flashes, meaning it does switch programs (same with alt-tab) but the CoX window still remains in 'front' so that I can't mess with other programs. The start menu just 'flashes' for a second when I try to access it with the win key. And no task bar.
But well... I ran CoX 5 times tonight and quit because of this issue. The 5th time I was able to get it running properly, with alt-tabbing and windows key working and everything was fine.
Windows is weird. I use my windows XP partition just to play the game (I also have other stuff like Mids, Firefox and antivirus), because my main stuff is on my Mac OS X partition. I can't run the Mac client because the game becomes a slideshow (since the game emulated in the Mac version, not a proper port like WoW which runs smoothly on my Mac - the winxp client runs very well but the CoX mac client requires a higher end Mac to run decently).
Thanks for the replies! I hope CoX stops this weird behavior like it did after I ran it after 5 times lol. After I crashed at WW (common occurrence here) I ran it again and it worked fine too. -
Quote:You have to actually have another program running, otherwise you have to hit the Windows key (or Control+Escape, which does the same thing). Before my 1.5 year break, CoX sometimes ran in a way that it didn't let me alt-tab to other programs like Firefox, Mids, etc. I couldn't make the game window 'go away' with alt-tab or opening the start menu with the windows key. When it happened, I just exited and relaunched the game and it was okay again, normal alt-tabbing so I could go to Firefox or other program when I was loading in a zone, check Mid's so I could see what power I planeed to pick and stuff.
I played about 5 times since I returned and it was okay.
I haven't played in a bit, like 1 week, and there were some Windows XP updates. Now everytime I run the game, the thing I related happens. The 'game loading' screen appears in front of all others, alt-tab doesn't help, and the only way I can return to my other programs is by exiting the game.
I verified files and nothing. Is there a solution to this?
I'm running Windows XP SP3 on a core duo 1.66 computer that always ran CoX smoothly.
Thanks in advance! -
Quote:Wait, is this true???!From your PlayNC Master Account, click the Support link near the upper-right corner of the page, and file a ticket. When the Support page comes up, click the Ask A Question tab in the middle.
Use the Question field to let them know about the problem. After you're done, you should get an automated reply about check these links blah blah blah. They're useless for this situation, because the Vet Reward Awarding System is broken. Eventually, someone will look over your account, and determine that you should have recieved the 9 months reward, and manually award it to you.
Make sure you have an up to date, valid e-mail address listed in your PlayNC Master Account (log in to your PlayNC Master Account, click on Account Profile on the right, then click on the UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION link on the right hand side of the area in white).
Mine has a 5 month difference. I always assumed it was because I was a beta tester. Wow...I need to look into this. -
I thought Demon Summoning and Dual Pistols was part of Going Rogue?
Going Rogue is not Issue 17, fyi, it's a Game Expansion, not an update.
I think you people are getting Going Rogue confused with Issue 17: Dark Mirror:
Quote:There you go...that's what's patching, friends. Sorry to disappoint."For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."
With the release of April's Issue 17: Dark Mirror, the newest free update of City of Heroes®, the game you love now has the visual depth, contrast, and richness it deserves! Dark Mirror includes a superior graphics rendering process, dubbed "Ultra Mode," that gives City of Heroes a heightened level of detail in lighting, reflections, shadows, and water effects. Paragon City and the Rogue Isles have never looked better.
In addition to Ultra Mode, as part of Issue 17, you will confront a new and nefarious foe who will be able to match your character blow for blow.
Other Issue 17: Dark Mirror features include:- Epic archetypes are now unlocked at level 20.
- Animated character tails.
- New missions, new badges, and new player emotes.
- Quality of life enhancements to the UI and game systems.
- Improvements and additions to Mission Architect.
Ultra Mode
Ultra Mode includes a superior graphics rendering process for players who have higher-end graphic cards. Each feature can be enabled or disabled in the graphics menu options and will be scalable. Ultra Mode works on both Macs and PCs. In specific, it offers dynamic shadows, screen-space ambient occlusion, and dynamic environment reflections (including planar reflections and environment mapping of reflective surfaces).
Epic Archetypes Unlocked at Level 20
Previously, you had to have at least one character at level 50 to make an epic archetype character. No more! Now you can create an epic archetype character as long as you have any one character at level 20 or higher.
Animated Tails
No more tails lying about like dead weight! You will now be able to select tail body parts that will react to your movement and have a swaying or swishing idle animation mode. You will need to go to a tailor to upgrade to the animated version.
Content
New Story Arcs: Issue 17: Dark Mirror features two new Hero and two new Villain story arcs for levels 20-30. Each of these story arcs has four missions, and the story arcs highlight the Dark Mirror's sinister new enemy. Acquire the first Hero story arc in Talos Island, and the first Villain arc in Sharkhead Isle.
Silver Mantis Strike Force Update: The Silver Mantis Strike Force will now be available to all Villains, not just supergroups. You now can access the Silver Mantis Strike Force via Silver Mantis, located in Sharkhead Isle. You can also run this Task Force from your supergroup computer.
Positron Task Force Update: This Task Force has been split into two halves and dramatically upgraded and updated to ramp up the fun. The final battle of the Task Force takes place in the Faultline Dam and incorporates the new Dark Mirror enemy.
New Badges: Along with adding badges for 500 Badges Earned, 750 Badges Earned, and 1,000 Badges Earned, we are adding new exploration badges to city zones, almost doubling the number of exploration badges. You can learn new Accolades for finding all of the exploration badges in each city zone.
New Player Emotes: We'll let you know more about the new emotes soon.
Quality of Life Improvements
Craftable Temporary Powers: You will now have a much cleaner and more consistent way of finding and crafting temporary powers.
Increased Mission Count: You can now have seven active missions (previously three).
Show Last Objective: This UI improvement lets you find your last objective on a mission map, making it easier to find something you've missed.
Auction House: The UI gives you new options for sorting search results, your Auction House inventory is now separated by clearly marked tabs based on the item's status, the Auction House text entry box now autocompletes, and a single click on a recipe displays all salvage needed for that recipe.
In-Game E-mail: You can now use in-game e-mails to send Influence/Infamy to your own characters or to other players' characters via in-game e-mails. (You still cannot send Influence, Infamy, or items from a Hero to a Villain or vice versa.)
Mission Architect Improvements
Experience: You can now handpick the powers for custom enemies and still receive experience for them (within game balance limits).
New Maps: We have added approximately 20 new unique maps.
Giant Monsters: You can now add giant monsters to some outdoor maps.
Exit Mission on Complete: You can now specify that players have to leave the mission manually on completion.
Escort Missions: "Lead to place" technology allows you more control over escort objectives. -
Quote:If I do that, it's not fun for groups anymore. If you feel your arc is too difficult to be cleared by most soloists, make your arc less difficult. Don't put in another moving part to compensate.
I only put allied mobs in my arcs when there is an actual story reason for them to be there, not as "helpers". If someone runs into something too difficult for them in a MA arc they can do the same thing they do in the regular game: ask for teammates to help them. -
Quote:You have got to be kidding me, lol.Im actually glad the AE farmers are pretty much back to square one now, where they actually have to do something other than stand in Cap or Atlas spamming 'lfAE team' then watch buffbots do all the hard work in the missions.
Thank you very much for the fix, lets just hope the farmers dont find a way around this one and actually go back to old skool teaming where you actually play the game instead of repeating the same mission a billion times over
I have seen countless AE Farms that do not use allies at all.
Just an FYI to the Devs...trying out peoples arcs without getting regualr drops sucks. The tickets don't even matter to me. I prefer an option between tickets and regular drops.
Another FYI...farming is more rampant in PVP these days. People are arena farming to get those newer pvp recipes that sell for a billion influence. I don't see you doing anything about that at all (and no...I'm not a pvp farmer; but I bet half the people against AE farming are).
