Wonder what will happen to bases if they put Raids back in
A programming dev at Hero Con told me that it would be perfectly reasonable for base raiding to be an opt in/ opt out proposition in the future. [Edit add: meaning if you don't want to do raids you can keep/continue doing whatever "cool things" you can do now in building your base.].
I can also tell you that the devs have expressed a desire for base raids to return.
I know too that Castle once asked for examples of raid bases that did things like trap players in jails, got them lost in impassable mazes, booted, etc.
What I don't know is if the "new" raiding system will have the same pathing rules etc. as the "old" raiding system. IIRC, in I13 closed beta there was an attempt at making everything in a base a destructable item (so you could "shoot/pound your way out" of a trap/maze situation). But that was abandoned in favor of the now decorative-friendly total removal of pathing restrictions. I also think the "everything is destructable" plan had some serious lag issues (but I'm not totally certain on that point).
Hope that helped some.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.
I think they should just add an SG Wars interface that spawns a random zone to do battle in. Or give the leaders of SGs the ability to design two different versions of a base, that can be toggled for raids.
I like the SG Wars option better though, especially if it allows for Coalitions to assist your group.
Simply, with all the cool things you can do with bases now, I wonder how it will affect base raids, if and when they decided to reimplement them.
As some can remember, some bases were purposely created or restructured for raids to trap players within locations. The Devs then created those zone boundaries around items that attempted to prevent players from stacking items together to create these jails.
Not trying to create a DOOOOM thread, just thinking / wondering what will be ahead.
Has anyone heard of any ideas they might be tossing around for base raids ?
Or am I just behind in the times and it already has been discussed ?
