CITY SCOOP - What happened to it?

This is the last one I could find:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=143584

Now, I checked on some of those contributors...it seems some are no longer with the game (which amazes me because people around here claim the game isn't losing subscribers).

So...what happened to the City Scoop. Anyone?

New Forum software wasn't compatible with City Scoop's layout. Their were no alternate means to do something similar.

Also all those links to players are to the old forum database and that's why they don't work.

Who's saying the game hasn't lost subscribers? That's patently false; every MMO is a battle between player attrition and new players.

The new forum software doesn't play nice with the way the Scoop used to do things. Both the Scoop and Titan Network have been working on their own off-site project similar to the Scoop, but the Scoop's version appears to have lost development progress. TN's project still has development progress, but is not complete. Neither the Scoop site nor the TN site would have been/will be the same as the old Scoop, though.

Truthfully, the main reason I know about the TN site is due to my part on the Mids' team. However, as someone who was a Scoop columnist shortly before the forum change (I only put out 5 articles for the Scoop), I'm immensely hopeful that the new site is a success. I intend to resume my Scoop column, and I hope other Scoop writers (and new writers!) will join me.

As a personal point, I stepped down from the EiC position at the beginning of the year. This was due to the fact that I have been looking for steady paying work (so far I've only been able to secure sporadic work). Even getting an archives (with what images haven't been removed from contributors) is a huge undertaking, not to mention how to get something that can be used on the forums.

Recently I've been looking at what I could do on a severely reduced basis (once a month), but that would likely be a PDF document due to a wish to bring a top-quality newsletter for everyone.

(snicker)
No, they don't. Even if we had the most loyal players in the world, we'd still lose subscribers as they die, if nothing else.

Now, some people claim that the subscriber numbers are not declining - which is completely different in meaning from your misstatement.

If compatibility is the issue, and we need an off site solution, I may be able to help. I develop websites for a living.

Are there links to the two projects so I can learn more?

Send a PM to Cende (City Scoop) or TonyV (Titan Network) if you're interested in helping with their respective projects. I can't say whether they'll accept your offer or not, but it can't hurt to ask

It's very close. Seriously, we're talking soon, not Soon™, probably an announcement within the next couple of weeks. If you're interested in helping out on the development side of things, drop me an e-mail at tonyv@cohtitan.com, or hit me up on Gtalk (same address) or on Skype (tonyv.paragonwiki). If you're interested in being a contributor, keep your eyes out!

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

You are one of the people who are an awesome contributor to the game.

Thanks to you and the other diligent game supporters who make things like Mids and the badge tracking site and Red Tomax and Beefcake and lots of people I am forgetting and others I don't know of.

IMPO, an external site is great, but if the original format wasn't working, working in a linear format that's copacetic with the current forums is certainly an alternative.

For example, every day LoT is posting articles he cuts & pastes from web sites. Most of them turn out alright. With a little formatting, such as centering, using QUOTE and CODE tags, etc., an acceptable format could be created for vBulletin. Certainly, the layout will be longer since creating two columns on a post doesn't seem feasible, and word wrapping around pictures probably won't work, but it certainly seems like an easier solution to creating an entire web site from the ground up, and a better solution than nothing at all.

That's just my 2 Inf.

I don't know HTML from XML (well, I can tell by looking at the code, but I don't know how to code from the ground up), but I can certainly write. Color me "interested ion contributing" if you are indeed going to have something within the next few weeks.

Cool...because I was on the verge of starting a special website just for it. Anything that saves me work...

Go, go, cohtitan staff.

As an aside: What about evolving the newspaper format (which as a traditional pizazz, I'll grant you that) and go social media with this - i.e., a Facebook group? The format would have the benefit of being a dynamic participation venue for regular members as well as official contributors, and has the advantage of being pushed to mobile devices. If privacy issues are a concern for contributors, they can simply roll a FB account based on their COH toon and go from there (so can participants, if they choose to do so).

Just a thought. It's something that's being exploited in other MMOs, and I often wondered why Scoopers didn't go this route. Discuss.

Around the time of the forums switch until November, I was trying to move to a Content Management System/Blog format (specialized Wordpress theme) that would allow articles to be submitted by anyone, proofread, posted, and compiled on a regular basis. At the same time, I formed a twitter account to tie into it, and was working on integrating the developer and community digests, as well as the dev's twitter feeds. It was also to house the archives.

I got to the prototype stage and met stiff opposition.

I'm not surprised--that sounds completely awesome. Sorry for all your hard work to go to waste.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
