If you are on a trial, or have a full game account, you have to install/download the exact same thing.
If you were on trial, then upgrade to full account, you won't have to install or download anything new. It's all there already. -

And once more I need to recommend to the marketing guys: we need to be able to gift things!!

Seconded! -

Ok, all of the input has been very very useful and educational. Thank you very much. Ok, 2 more questions:
Just slotting with SO will still turn out to be a pretty good bada$$ superhero?
Does all salvage one way or another be used for inventions?
For example, can I sell unused salvage or dontae to SG b/c someone else can use?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes. Slotting with just SOs, you can still be effective. Are you aware of the restrictions of Enhancement Diversification (ED)?
If not, it applies to IO sets as well. Check out Enhancement Diversification at www.paragonwiki.com as well.
For salvage you don't want, or can't use, you can:
1) sell it to any store, for a fixed price based on rarity
2) sell it on Wentworths (Hero Auction house) or the Black Market (Villain Auction House) for whatever other player are willing to pay. This can be less or MUCH more than what a vendor would give you.
3) Deleted.
4) Placed in supergroup storage bins
5) Given to other players
6) Used to craft base equipment
7) Used to craft costume pieces, like Burnt Wings, or Rocket Boots
8) Invention Enhancements, already covered
9) Craft temp powers like Gabriel's Hammer, or the St. Louis Slugger
10) Used at empowerment station to craft temporary buffs.
The invention tutorial offered at the University give an introduction to the Auction House. Recipes can be sold there as well.
EDIT: Forgot to mention #11, In addition to your personal inventory, you have a vault inventory of salvage, which can only be accessed by that character. You can get to it at Pocket D, your base (if equipped) and also near any market location. -
You have some good points there, making a case for IO competitiveness under level 20.
May have to rethink my purchasing patterns... -
I've put stuff on the market for 1, with the sole purpose of moving it, to get the market badges!
-
IOs are definitely useful, and I'd recommend checking out the invention tutorial at level 10+ at either the University in Steel Canyon (heroes) or Aeon University in Cap au Diable (villains).
But outfitting your guy in IOs is more expensive and time-consuming than TOs/DOs/SOs. Without a bankroll or sugar-daddy or lucky drop or ebil marketeering, a complete IO refit at level 15 is unlikely.
EDIT: Given people dumping 10-15 IOs on the market, it may not be difficult after all.
Use your drops. Got something useful? Slot it. Got all the pieces to a Damage IO? Build and use it. Missing only a cheap piece for a recharge reduction? Get it and build.
For unwanted or excess bits, check the market. Some common salvage that a store gives you 250 inf for, will fetch 20-50K on the market (Luck Charms!) -

I was thinking it, but Red Bull was late with their last cheque, so no product placement opportunities here!

The Hollows missions arc is interesting, and fun, but is optional.
It's easy to outlevel interesting content, so I'm going to tell you about 2 things.
First, as a menu option, you can turn off xp gain. Really. This was a requested feature from players.
Second, you can get jet pack temporary power by completing a Safeguard mission in King's Row. You'll get the right mission "Protect Atlas Park bank" or something if you are level 9 or less.
If you are level 10, and take a Safeguard mission, it might be "Protect King's Row Bank" which means you'll get the zero-g jumping pack temporary travel power reward instead. Still useful in getting around! -
You may be out of luck. Unless they got their trial codes from the "refer a friend" feature, there's no link between them and you.
Kinda sucks, but at least you'll be have some quality teammates in the future!
I've introduced a bunch of people to this game, at least 4 people into 3+ year vets. No refer-a-friend time credit. Either it didn't exist, or I didn't know about it at the time. -
I vote 5th Council on the Moon.
My friend taunted me, "You'd skip work to fight Moon-Hitler!" -

Yeah I've always wished there were some good Warrior arcs in the game. They have a kinda cool background, but no exciting stories. They are just sort of a forgotten group, more or less.

Have you even played the midnighters arc with them in? That final mission in their arc is . . . . . . . . . . ambushy with a flavour of carnage
[/ QUOTE ]
Which one is this? Is this villainside Midnighters? More details too. I like the warriors, and do agree it's hard to get a good impression of a villain group when they're being bullied all the time. -
Don't forget customizable weapons!
It's large, unwieldy, and that moving eye is kinda freaky, but I do like the Rularuu sword.
For our new players, wings do not give you the flight ability. Wings are a cosmetic costume piece, which you can add whether you can fly or not.
Taking the flight power does not give you wings. -
Note to self: Read all of post before responding.
I'm glad you're up and running. -
There is no integral voice chat in CoH. Myself and my friends run Skype. Others use Ventrillo, or TeamSpeak.
If the text size is too small, you can change it in options. If you see a lot of useless information or loudmouths in certain channels, you can edit the chat tabs to only show certain channels. And ignore loudmouths or annoying people by using the /ignore Loudmouthname command.
Strike Forces have a minimum team size, and minimum level for all team members. There is also "maximum" level. Those over that level at the start, or who surpass that level during the Strike Force are "autoexemplared" meaning they become restricted to the powers they would have at the max level, and no longer gain xp while on the strike force.
Check out more details on Strike Forces at www.paragonwiki.com
Strike Forces members are typically recruited through supergroups, or server channels, or the team search functions (and asking politely), broadcast, or through the server forums.
Heck, blow smoke signals out your window, if it works!
Strike forces can consist of your group members, online friends, or Pick-Up Groups, or some mix.
Strike Forces can be fun and rewarding, but they can also be difficult, either based on the written challenges, or less than stellar teammates.
EDIT: Some folks have run strike forces so often, they pretty much have them memorized. It's a good idea to let others know that you've never done this one before, so they don't leave you in the dust, wondering what to do, where to go, or what tactics to use against the tough obstacles. -
Since the game is account based, you can go to any computer that has CoH installed, use your login/password, and there will be all your characters, all your extras, and so forth. Another player using their login/password will get their stuff.
EDIT: You did a smart thing coming here for questions. We like new players, and want new players to have a good experience, so generally we try to answer questions.
Other good sources of information is www.paragonwiki.com (which even the game developers use!) and the help channel.
/hc How do I get a jetpack at level 5? -
Any version, even if you find an old box with an unused serial code from 2004, will give you access to both heroes and villains, including Architect Edition, or the Mac edition (which works on PCs too!) or the Good vs. Evil Edition.
If you want to keep your trial characters, make sure you UPGRADE your trial account with the box code.
If you buy any of the other editions later, you UPGRADE your existing account with the new code, and it will add 30 days time, and the specific Edition goodies.
You can only use a particular edition once on your account. -
Check out the guides from various ebil marketeers on how to make millions while you sleep.
Simple tip: Put up bids for common IO or generally unpopular recipes or SOs or salvage at half or under their vendor price. If you buy any, dump them at a vendor for at least 100% profit. Your choice of bids didn't buy anything? Withdraw the bid from the market for no penalty.
No risk, other than ties up your influence for a while. And it works while you're offline.
Running task forces can easily net millions in influence, plus merits, plus salvage, plus recipes, plus goodwill from other players as a competent teammate. Do a level 50 task force and you could get a purple drop anyways.
And if you have fun doing it, it's not a grind. So don't grind! Have fun! -

Personally I'd like to see AE shut down for.. ahem... Maintenance during double XP.. I'd get a laugh at all the "you mean I need to go OUTSIDE??" comments.
[/ QUOTE ]
While I was reading I was thinking, 'I really don't care whether it gets 2xp." But this would be hilarious.
[/ QUOTE ]
Pretty much this. Though it means that joining PUGs would practically be suicidal during that weekend.
[/ QUOTE ]
Suicidal? Maybe, but entertaining for certain, with a chance at education.
Just the thing for the masochistic thrill-seeking pedagogue. -
I'd get my graphics card installed and updated drivers before installing CoH.
-
If anyone complains that AE missions aren't getting 2xXP, I just might laugh.
Edit: And that would be a Senor Senior Senior "evil snicker" rather than a Vernon Von Grun "evil belly laugh." -
Alternately, in the cheapo win, you can snipe or use Blackwand/Nemi-staffs at near maximum range on the Nicti without generating aggro, and destroy them very slowly. It works.
The healing nictus generates heals off the number of enemies in a large radius. Pets and allies may be counterproductive as they may generate more healing than they output in damage. -
I very much like. However, the Can Man's half-pronounced true identity was a bit too much. The hints previously mentioned should be good enough.
To those who read the mission briefings!
