Just got off the phone. His voice lit up when I told him you all wished him a happy birthday.
He's doing great. Everyone cross your fingers when you wake up tomorrow morning. Dayn is flying out early for a big job interview in San Jose. Our baby-faced RPvP'r has grown up, graduated, and moved onto RL influence farming.
...
We'll be here when you get back for Double XP weekends. We love you, Dayn. -
Quote:If you scroll down, they already have a song but it's a bit freaky. Lines like:I'd hate to be the guy who has to come up with a song for this holiday.
I can't even SAY it, much less sing it.
"Pie.
PIE!
Our Souls For John's Shplekenfugheimer Pie,
Lest Our Grandmother's Face be Violated"
... Um, I just read the 2nd paragraph of the 'Holiday Icons' section on that page and it all makes sense now. Now I can't look at frosted strudel the same way again. -
-
... but it's your birthday, Dayn/Capt Starfall!
Thanks for being one of the nicest folks I've met here in five years.
---
PS. I can almost bet you lurk here but I'll still shoot you a tell in Skype in case you don't since some of the catgirls may post you a few dirty X's and O's.
Or.. some of teh catbois -
Well, yeah :P Nuc wouldn't believe me otherwise.
So you DJ as well? I run events sometimes and have an idea for one sometime before the end of the year or start of GR. Do you ever DJ for player events? I promise I won't ask you to do pushups!!! -
-
No worries, Bayani. I bet you looked great with or without sparklies. You're a really good dresser.
I, on the otherhand, am a complete bonehead. I have the worst knack for running into people. So I log into the D for my dayjob and stumble across Nuc and strongarm him into joining with me because he loves dressing like a girl. So fresh Long story short, there's these really cute roleplay troupe hanging around the Vault dressed like bouncers. One is playing dead, one is pretending to swing a baseball club at the dead bouncer and one is just standing guard. We're chitchatting briefly, I think they're funny.. reminded me of CoJ back in the day. This is the funny part: So a perc rep walks up to the dead guy and runs the ninja pack / pushups emote.. Me, being the dolt that I am sent a message to my friend Nuc, saying, " Holy ***, that PERC rep just *** that guy." Except, since I had been also chatting with the bouncer roleplayers, it mt'd to the head bouncer! He laughed and said it was because her name was [left out, name that has to do with eating]. And I thought, ok, I'm red in the face because I don't curse to people I just met and well Nuc doesn't care. Except the bouncer was so funny that I did a global check to see who it was.. haha. It was Arkyeon. Now I'm red in the face because I'm talking to the event host about bleeps at his event. Man, I'm going to get bounced from every event from now on. -
Looks like folks are having a lot of fun. You should go before they finish. They're handing out free hot dogs 'n stuff now.

When do I walk? When I want to cause a scene.
Ha. Truthfully, when the mood strikes me or I'm running a 360 degree camera orbit around a a new costume to make sure it looks just right.
As for the female walk / streetwalker debate, I suppose that's just another thing best judged by the beholder. Some would look at this image and claim a point on the scoreboard:
I see athleticism, poise and creativity. When using this screenshot as my desktop wallpaper, I see a comic book cover. -
You can play with me anytime. You're awesome company, Jack.
-
Happy Anniversary, Jack!
So, all these years, never the temptation to complete a villain? Pity. You get a choice of your own volcano or submarine with yacht-class interior when Made. <waggles a toaster> -
And I'd pay a whole dollar for an icon on the map for the portal door. You can easily get turned around in other people's bases.
-
tl/dr
I would if it included pieces that would help my decorative items count go down. Things like:
- Thin panels to break larger rooms into smaller sections. I could use a bunch of 2 x 2's but that isn't as practical as purchasing a large room and making my own dividers.
More than just wood panels though.. wide and tall glass panels, railings, fences, etc.
- Thick floor panels. Desks are great for second and third floors but it would be nice to lay down an entire section at once. There is the white floor tile but it's paperthin and invisible underneath.
- Longer or taller stair units.
- An ability to color customize pieces in the same way we customize walls, floors and ceilings.
I think I'm inspired to finish my villain base now. I'm at 15 thousand items. The cap is 20 no? I'll be in game if anyone wants to torment me with pm's about how useless massive shoeclosets labeled as bomb shelters are. -
All of my 50's are concept characters which earned a ribbing or three from elite gamer friends. Apparently, it's silly to pick powers to suit the name or origins idea.
Heroes of the City:
Una - My first 50, my main badge-artist and group leader. Her concept was always that of an warring angel. Spines and Super Reflexes because I imagined her first as a seraphim with wings set six-pair from head to toe that fracture in battle. Wings that move so fast, the most anyone sees is a flickering series of bony protrusions impaling her opponents.
Originally, her name was Aranita but I changed that years ago. I was working on an extended origins story (bios are soo tiny) to explain the reason for the change and what her original name meant:
Before she was Una, she was called Aranita - the little spider. To awestruck onlookers that's how she first appeared, at twilight, cast as a spoked shadow which flickered furiously against the earth's floor and cliff walls. Not physically visible to the innocent in those days, only ever to the wicked once pierced, Aranita was a tale patched together from the mouths of children. Such a story, with evidence found in morning light, frightened even the most cynical adults in their village. Their collective stories echoed the vision of an ever-changing woman's silhouette; "she had a six, eight, no.. perhaps it was ten and two legs". Some regarded the strange formations as arms. Long, twisting spindles that arched from behind her torso and reached out in every direction. "Legs don't have hands..." said one observant child. "Though. she carried with her not one weapon." Terrifying more that the appendages broke off at times, piercing deep the other shadows, rendering lifeless the invading armies to their homeland. And so it was, the angel with broken wings set six pair as Seraphim's are, was first named by the children along the Mediterranean coast of Hispania.
- She has a mix of modern, medieval costumes, and future-self costumes to show her age. To this day, I prefer her white devil costume to any number of angelic drapings she's worn. Being good gets old after a while.
American Anthem - She's one of my favorite backstories. Archer/Empathy. The biography is in the link. This may sound silly but I think it's sweet when someone sends a pm to say how sad the story is.. because I put alot into her and it's nice that she's noticed. At any rate. Archery, one of the many sports she took in high school. She's a terrible mess. A mix of high school uniforms and her brother's burial flag for "heroine" costumes. When so many have the larger than life patriotic characters, the do-gooders, the ones beyond reproach and worthy of carrying their country's flag.. I wanted someone a little left of all of that is wholesome and right with the world.
- The last costume is her daywear. If I recall, the top was part of a cheerleader's uniform. Anthem beat that Cheerio fair and square for that costume piece.
Alt - I have so much fun with her. Another bio in link. Art imitating art. She's a MMO game avatar come to life.. or realization, rather. She's easy to have ridiculous fun on. I'll run around her screaming, "The Main is always trying tah keep me down!" Right now, her costume slots are based off which other lands (other MMO's) she'd like to visit. She has fantasy costumes, space alien costumes, etc. I once made her a Super Girl costume in anticipation of Marvel (made long after the project was canned.. her costume was just a light-hearted joke since there was no way to play that game) but deleted it right away before angering the GM gods.
- pre customization. Her City of Heroes Illusion Controllers costume is now red and white.
- Alt's almost, could have been, would have been life. She was going to Champions but stayed in CoH because she didn't want her boobs to look like tectonic dinner plates that drifted apart in character creation.
- Ha! So got rid of this generic bait.
- Ok, she was going to wear this when she signed up for Star Trek Online.. but realized her green costume over green alien girl skin would get ogled by n00bs named Kirk9864 and decided to keep it in CoH when playing solo in indoor missions for the sake of her dignity.
Dakota - Archery/Devices. I think I made a blaster because I never enjoyed them. And furthermore, I never enjoyed her. Dakota started her life as Five Starr, a spirited cowgirl of asian origin. For the life of me, I can't recall her original powers - just that I wasn't having any fun. So I took a look at her again. Rerolled, renamed, and modernized. Now I just play the hell out of her. Fun package.
Freeze Frame - Freeze (secondary: Ice Blast) Frame ( primary: Force Field). 'nuff said. The best part.. she's a cop with a taser for her inherent. Bzzpppt.
Noa - This is one of my infamous, "Ara, you make the lamest concept character" characters. So, I never made a tank that lasted past 6..12? 6. Maybe level 8. I asked friends who said, "stone armor!". All this before power customization so I weighed the costume options and responded, "Ice is pretty, yes?". My friends laughed. "Ice is awful. With Mace?" And I thought to myself, that no matter what I make .. it'll suck so I may as well enjoy the backstory. Bio linked.. a character so far from home and source of power, that she's considered "weak" by the comparison to her former self. The idea that the strongest character I have (HP) is at the same time, the weakest.
Made:
Exotica - She's great and terrible. And great at being terrible. And probably my favorite.
Phobia - This stalker started out as a consolation prize. I had the name Heretic which was to be my stalker but had it wrestled away by an unsavory gentleman with no remorse or ability to reason. So he gave me the name Phobia from his menagerie so I'd agree to have dinner with him again without sobbing everytime the waitstaff asked what I wanted. :P Claws / Dark Armor. Oh! And every costume slot is a representation of a different group of phobias. -
Quote:I use City Information Terminal* as my own personal City Vault-like page. This is my public list. I've got their little avatars, biographies, badges, and levels listed. The Devs had something like that in mind..
It was called the City Vault. Link to the Pargonwiki page on it.
But as of now it's Shelved.
Thank you for the time...
As for the thread topic, all of my characters have stories though I haven't typed in every bio. Most do, though.
Mostly miniature stories like snapshots of who they were or how they came to be. Among two of my charaters is one extended story. And one is just song lyrics because I was too lazy to write from that day to this.
The character limit is a big part of my procrastination. I want to squeeze so much more in. One day, I'll get around to making my own Virtueverse.com page. Pity not every server has one.
* My bad, it's named City Info Tracker now. I age myself. From their about page: "City Info Tracker is the child of two separate, but similar, City of Heroes/Villains fan sites: City Information Terminal and City Game Tracker." Anyone.. take a looksie. Register for free! Add your mains! Add your alts! It's a really nice .. scratch that.. really great site. -
It's getting worse.
Massive lag hit San Antonio, Texas today. It's cold outside, no one wants to play. Everything has a thin gloss of ice on it. My dogs cried when I opened the door and gave me the "must I?" look - wimpy border collies. They take after me. And while I realize a dip in the 30's is just a spring day to you northerners.. I usually walk around in lil sundresses most of the year.
One of these days, I need to learn video-editing.. superimpose Hamidon on the Riverwalk eating tourists. Shoot everyone in slow-motion to emulate lag and pay a bunch of kids to act up.. running and screaming. Whee.
Ok. I'm done being wierd. Thanks, all. -
When there's nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire.

Ohs. Silly fun! I was just telling someone last night about my old breakfast ritual. My house is on a hill. On foggy mornings, the rooftops of the homes behind and below look like a small valley of pyramids. You really only get the effect if it's super early, you're still bleary-eyed, and you hoist up to counterspace right of the sink.

Edit/add: Aww.. pity that. Original wishlist below.
Quote:-------------------------------------------------------------------------------From what I know, yeah, I think that's what they said (or something along the lines of 'won't work with indoor lighting'), but I may be wrong.
- The polished floors in Arena. Seeing our characters added to the other reflections. I love running around in there by myself for no reason other than to chase the reflections.
- The courtyards and slim pools just outside the Giza.
- SG base interiors.
- The patron room inside the Grandville Tower. It would add a layer of awe and enhance the humility to being in their collective presence.. like being in the principle's office all over again.
The irregularly shaped bloodstained glass window pieces in that room would reflect just how broken your villain really is.
All they need now is added sound when you're standing very close to receive a new task. Scorpion could emit a low grumble like he's hungry all the time, the Widow's entourage would rustle like silk, and Lord Recluse could be a heavy mouth-breather. -
We had a blast running a casino night in the Monkey Club one night. Folks dressed up like Vegas bunnies and mafia cardsharks to run the tables. They stood inside the velvet ropes playing various games with emotes.
As far as having games within the game.. that one would not need a troupe of roleplayers for.. I'd love:
- working pooltables
- chase scenes in Skyway
- rentable boats in every zone surrounded by water. Imagine a group of speedboats at every dock or shore which you could pay influence/infamy to use. It does have practical applications. For example, when people die fighting Lusca, if no one on your team has recall/summon. Even with travel powers, it can take a while to get back. IP is a long zone.
- slot machines for exchanging undesirable loot. I pick up recipes that will get sold to the stores and QM's because I know they won't sell for **** at auction. Imagine taking the chance to exchange three for a random. Something silly to do.

Starmada
Warshade, Level 25
Primary costume:
Alternate costume (with Biography):
[thumbnail]
Misc. notes:
The character dabbles between time and dimensions. Working not only with the past, present, future but also that of alternate realities.
As far as her time travel goes, I was playing around with the idea of reframing the concept of the Butterfly Effect as a Rubik's cube - adding dimension to time. Nearly every time travel movie or book I've seen has the protagonist discovering the result of their actions at the end and falling into a perpetual loop of "do-over".
Rather than have Starmada working in a linear path, I imagined her living in a layered world. One in which she can see the past, present, and future all at once. Much like a Rubik's cube, she'd be working on one side (time) of the problem but have the ability to do so while seeing and working on the changes occurring on the other sides.
Adjusting every action while 'in the moment'.. especially if there is a disheartning outcome regardless of any given number of infinite solutions. She'd choose the lesser of two and twenty million evils. Ideally, there would be a happy ending but that would be unlikely for every challenge as split second decisions still carry restrictions of a fleeting present state. There would be no over extending do-overs available.
I suppose the bulk of the premise is from the old addege, "had to see that coming a mile away...". In a way, we do. And yet, we don't always take advantage of that opportunity to avoid distaster. -
I had to experiment a bit to get the most mileage out of the CoT for my 50 SR scrapper. Graduated her from a 52 red CoT Guide on melee (sickle not the crossbow) > to two CoT Guides (one on melee, one ranged) while a 50 Emp healed at a safe distance > to a winged Behemoth. The last was a bit tricky as he kept knocking my scrapper back, and eventually out of the Emp's range. To compensate, I picked a sewer map and would wedge her (rested) behind a large winch which was always right next to a wall. That solved the KB problem. She was stuck like Chuck. Then, I beefed up support. She had a 50 Empath -and- a level 1 ssk'd Emp from a trial account both auto'ing Heal Other.
Not that everyone has access to a 50 Emp. Perhaps a friend who needs the heal badge? I guess my point is, if you experiment enough with available resources.. right down to immovable map objects, you can really cut down on time. Optimize optimize optimize.
