As far as I know, if you want the GvE goodies, you need
1) The GvE physical box, with unused serial code.
2) Credit card, and order GvE code through the website.
Waitamminut, I recall some foo-fer-a a few months back, trying to get a friend to upgrade with a physical box code, and it required a credit card anyway! Is that true? Anyone done that lately?
Yeah, I understand wanting to give banks the finger...
Well, if you really trust this person, they could use your credit card number. -
Quote:Game cards will work.In a word: cash only
She does not maintain a checking account.
So, my questions remain....
can she use the CoH game cards to upgrade?
what are the steps for doing it?
and can she use money orders to pay for her subsequent monthly subscription?
1) Get Game Card
2) Go to www.plaync.com
3) Log into PlayNC Master Account (could have different user/password than CoH Game Account)
4) (deleted)
5) Select trial CoH Game Account
6) Select UPGRADE Account
7) Enter Serial Code
8) Check confirmation message
9) Keep all serial codes on file for future reference. In case you forget your passwords, it's one way Customer Service verifies that indeed, it is you!
10) Log out of PlayNC
11) Fire up CoH, and play!
If you've been already playing the trial, you don't need to load or install anything. The full game is already on your machine, but now your account has access to the real deal! -
Time cards won't help you start an account.
Game Cards will.
EDIT:
Time cards will not upgrade a trial account to a full account. CoH Game cards will, and will give you a 30 day jetpack to all characters as well.
Also, if you can find a boxed copy of GvE, you can use the UNUSED serial code to UPGRADE your account.
The goodies in GvE are nice, but any boxed copy with an UNUSED serial code, CoH or CoV, or Architect edition, will allow you to UPGRADE your account to a full one, and make heroes or villains.
Credit cards applications take a while, and you can dig yourself a hole with them if you aren't able to discipline yourself, but it's a good idea to start on your credit rating when you can.
Otherwise, there are loadable credit cards around. Check at your banks, or Money-Marts. The user fees, monthly fees, etc make me wince.
PayPal works too, as mentioned.
Why do I put UPGRADE in caps? Because starting a new account, and not being able to use the stuff you worked on during your trial time sucks, and yes, customer service can fix that, but why wait? -
I agree, that is valid, but I'd put that as part of #2.
To the Original Poster: I've been on big teams, fighting serious challenges, where healing wasn't necessary, as between the effects of teammates, nobody was getting hit. -
Patience gives you a big discount. As does knowledge.

Quote:Most of the Developer-created content is designed to be do-able for the solo player. A team composed of similar level (through sidekicking and exemplaring) competent people can overcome most challenges. High-Level Task Forces and Strike Forces have significant challenges, but there are usually several ways to overcome them.Tankers are nice but not necessary, and 'healers' don't exist in this game.
Tank+Healer can be a good tactic, but overall:
1) Deal enough damage to defeat enemy
2) Survive enemy damage
3) Have enough endurance to finish the fight
There are multiple ways this can be accomplished, other than having a damage sponge, and someone to patch them up. An all blaster team could be very effective, as they would concentrate on #1), dishing out massive alpha-strikes to eliminate the most dangerous opponents quickly, or just AoE-ing everything in sight.
Tactically speaking, if you can adjust your tactics and playstyle based on your team's abilities and strengths, and the strengths/weakenesses of your enemies, you'll usually do well.
However, AE missions are created by players, who have no such mandate to be solo-able, or reasonable for groups of competent players.
Some players create missions that tell a story, create a challenge, or just farm rewards.
Therefore, they can range from the stupidly easy, to the ridiculously hard.
Some AE missions are designed by their players to be very easy, or very hard, for their specific powersets and preferred team compositions.
If you have a regular account, not a trial account, you can create your own AE missions, and allow others to play them.
XP gained is based on the level of the character, the level of the defeated enemy or completed mission, and if the character has XP debt, patrol XP, and size of group.
As previously mentioned, check www.paragonwiki.com for more info.
Generally, the greater the challenge, the more xp gained. In a group, xp is split, but there is a bonus for teaming, and good teams can do very well. -
Or, the game-folk could add a deceased villain for parity.
Say... Red Widow?
That would make Recluse and Ghost Widow squirm, if such a thing is possible. -
Quote:Awesome! I'm glad you had a good time.As you could glean from the Twitter feed, we didn't quite make it all the way to 50. However, none of us feel that badly about not making it because we sure had fun, we never grinded, we never farmed, we never went against the spirit of the experiment.
Anyone can hit 50. We wanted to see if we could do it in three days without getting bored and without resorting to "cheap" tricks.
We did 5 strike forces and were sometimes over the level cap and not earning XP. We finished them anyway. We took breaks when we needed them. We slept an adequate amount. We had fun. Since the fun was the point and was also the reason we didn't make it, I can't say we failed. We achieved the bigger of the two goals.
I'm chuckling right now, thinking of some of the Candy Monsters getting on a team with some Dark Darkity Death Satanspawn types... -

I think the "trouble-spots!" would be a good way to go.
Easy missions, a couple of clicks, rescue the cat, done. Larger problems, or significant issues, lead to bigger confrontations and a bit of ferretting out clues, talking to contacts or busting heads.
We have a bit of this with zone events and giant monster announcements, but
In terms of "skill" collateral damage could be the determining factor. Those who do a lot of damage to the environment with missed shots and area effects, and overly powerful punches (which bust windows blocks away) or are considered to have used excessive force. Not sure what the penalties are, because sure as shooting, someone is going to try to bust up the whole place. -
Any previous CoH or CoV account can now create heroes or villains.
To try it, make a new character, and the first question it should give you is "Hero or Villain"? -
I forgot! While your in Pork Oats (Port Oakes), say hi to Canada Joe, fishing out on the docks.
Although, I wouldn't want to eat anything I caught in Port Oakes... -

oh ok I see.
the news paper just appeared under contacts.
so I made me a fire wielding, stone armored mutated brute
I seem pretty tough. is that a good build. it would be a bummer too find out my guys sucks. after hitting lvl 20

If you're under level 10, then instead of a respec, I'd look at using the alternate build to re-choose your powers.
Your enhancements are not shared between builds, but at the level of working with Drea the Hook, it doesn't matter much.
Although, I don't think there's any bad choices under level 10 for a fire/stone brute.
Next point: You're a smart guy for coming here with questions. We like answering questions of new players, and helping them achieve the true heroism/villainy they are capable of.
Keep asking!
And check out www.paragonwiki.com for times when our response time exceeds four minutes. -
We sheparded Sally onto shore one time. Got pics, but not access to 'em here.
Trust me! -
Trial Account Limitations
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Trial_Account
I play M&M myself, and although the Archetype system is more limiting than M&M's freeform builds, I've been having fun here for 4+ years.
Level pacts are good for two players who want to stay the same level. Check here:
http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Level_Pact
Also, check out the same site for the Sidekick/Lackey and Exemplar/Malefactor system, which allows challenge and reward for a team of very different levels. -
Lovely! Really liked Black Scorpion as well!

Freedom has the highest population, so it probably has the highest PvP population.
The PvP forums, further down, will give you some more specific information.
PvP only occurs in specific zones, or the Arena. All servers have these zones, and Arenas. -
It's a weird metaphor. Clueless kid gets super powers, unsure what to do, and is a danger to his teammates, until either he gives up the superhero game, figures things out for himself, or receives some mentoring.
Almost like a comic book?
Us grizzled veterans, or those that know, which can be UNDER 3 months, all have an opportunity to teach, and increases the stable population of this game with knowledgable persons.
Instead of shaking your head, offer friendly advice, answer the non-troll questions seriously, and the wise mentor who they will have fond memories of years from now. -
That's not a atypical price, from what I've seen.
I don't think PlayNC can control what markup stores put on the product. -
For a low level player, head to Atlas Park (Level 1-5 enemies) and go to the East side. There is a gate to the Hollows.
The other way is through Skyway (Level 10-20 enemies). Not easy for a level 8!
To do the "mob dodge" (travel on the ground while avoiding aggro) use fences, and obstacles to break line of sight. keep maximum distance between yourself and enemies. You'll figure out their perception radius pretty quick. Zoom out your camera to max to keep a big picture of the situation.
Alternatively, if a member of a supergroup, your supergroup base may have a teleporter to the Hollows. -
Well, geez, I WANTED to answer your questions, but I got beat to the punch.
You can have up to three missions active, and that happens if you talk to a different contact before completing a current mission. Totally fine. Heroes and villains are capable of multi-tasking.
The missions from the police scanner which lead to the safeguard mission/temp jet pack are infinite and randomized. They don't really have a story, although they often have humour, or tie into game lore. Like rescuing Lois Watson, for example.
For big stories, see, as mentioned previously, Officer Wincott in the Hollows, who will pass you to an undercover operative who I cannot name for fear of compromising his/her identity. ( The undercover person is not Meg Mason. She is a "police scanner" for the Hollows. her missions are randomized, and infinitely repeatable.)
At level 10, you can do the second part of the Hollows Story Arc, featuring a runt Troll and a mysterious mystical mystery man.
At level 15, there is the Faultline story arc, again in a 15-20 and a 20-25 section. Say hi to Doc Delilah for me, just point your eyes somewhere polite.
That should keep you going for a while. Welcome! -
It was mentioned that they could expand level pact groups. They wanted to see how the 2-player version worked, and probably how much it would be exploited for power-levelling.

"AT and Builds?" He was probably playing with you, and didn't intend to join, just to string you along.
If he was serious, I'd have some significant doubts about his capability.
