Aggro Bug?

If you are solo, they will just ignore you. If you have teammates, they will go for them, if they've done something to get aggro on them. It's worked this way since I5, I think (maybe I6).
2. Aett_Thorn

Aggro Bug?

It's:

"I think those 17 guys can handle the big guy. Let's go try to smash the little guy with him"

Edit -> Mechanically, it was done to prevent Tankers from herding an entire map, allowing the rest of the team to wipe out huge amounts of enemies in complete safety.

Aggro Bug?

This is how it's supposed to work (though it's actually 17). That is the aggro cap. After that, they won't focus on you, until you kill one of the other ones that is aggroed on you.

Shield Offense

Make a Shield/SS or SS/Shield. Use some of the alternate animations. You hit the guy with the shield arm in many of them.
5. Well, it's going to depend on the power.

For instance, High Pain Tolerance should probably be slotted with 3 Resist Damage enhancements, and 3 Heal Enhancements (probably the heals first).

Mind Over Body should be slotted for 3 Resist Damage enhancements, and maybe one Endurance Reduction.

Fast Healing should be slotted with up to 3 Heal enhancements.

Indomitable Will, will eventually want 3 DamRes, one EndRed, but that can be held off on for a while.

Now, you can put multiple enhancements of the same type into the same power. HOWEVER, there is a function called Enhancement Diversification, which, once you start using Single-Origin Enhancements and higher-level Invention enhancements, will begin degrading the percentage return on your enhancements past the second one that you slot. The third enhancement won't be affected much, so it's okay, but slotting any more than three of a kind in a power generally gets you very little in return.
6. Well, if by "I'm not too fussed with the weapon set" means that you don't like them, then I'd suggest going with one of these two:

Super Strength
Stone Melee (probably what I'd suggest, just for kicks)

If you meant instead, that you don't mind the weapon sets, then I'd say that Battle Axe and War Mace should be added to that list.

All are good sets, and help provide you with some sort of additional mitigation (usually in the form of KnockDOWN). I'd hesitate to suggest Fire Melee, since it lacks mitigation, but it can be quite fun (well, it does have mitigation in the form of killing your enemies).

If you take Elec Armor, I'd definitely suggest going with the Fighting Pool, in addition to whatever else you end up taking, to try to get Tough in there. It can help you stay on your toes a lot. With End Drain, it's not like you're going to have to worry about any Endurance use anyways, once you get there.

I have an Elec/DB Tanker, and probably wouldn't suggest it for you. Too tight of a build for my liking, though it is quite pretty.

From Eiko:

PS A "Tank-Mage" would have Tank-level defence with Blaster-level damage. I don't think anyone has ever proposed that archetype.
No, it doesn't necessarily have to have that. The term Tank-Mage has been around a lot longer than this game, and doesn't imply being a Tanker, or having Tanker-level defenses.

It only implies a class or AT that can dish out high amounts of damage (typically at Range and Melee, though sometimes only range) and take high amounts of damage. That doesn't necessitate Blaster-level attacks and Tanker-level defenses. Scrappers can take a lot of damage themselves, even though they don't have Tanker-level defenses. Considering that most enemies in this game only have very weak ranged attacks, having any Defenses to them at all can increase your survivability greatly.

Then there's the damage part. Take a look at SoAs, especially Crabs. They are the ones most often compared to Tank-Mages in this game, and they don't quite have Blaster-level damage.

This game is not built around a holy trinity of team balance, but rather around the idea of allowing players to feel powerful and have fun. The Blast(Assault)/Defence AT is so often requested, and so often represented in all media, including the comic books this game works so hard to emulate, that its exclusion from the game is almost unforgivable.

I seriously want to throttle people that say "Tank-Mage".
Okay, so just because no AT is needed, we should create an AT that can do everything by itself?

In any MMO, you want to avoid creating a class or AT that is hands-down the 'best' for everything. An AT that can not only throw out lots of ranged (and since there's no penalty for using ranged attacks in melee, lots of Melee damage, too), and have the survivability to take any incoming damage as well becomes out of balance. You basically create an AT that makes all of the other ATs seem useless. So, you end up trending towards a single-AT game, where everyone in the game chooses that one class, because it's better than the others a great majority of the time.

Whether this game is based on a holy trinity or not is completely irrelevant to the discussion. Because it's not about a class that can do everything okay, while the other ATs do one thing well, and something else only decently. It's about an AT that can do everything well, while other ATs only do one or two things well.

Take a look at other games where a "Tank-Mage" type class has been put in. Has that class ever survived long in that kind of fashion?

new archetypes

The problem with this is that you risk it becoming a Tank-Mage (and yes, I am aware that SoA tend to be this way as it is). When you pair medium- to high-damage output at range with decent self defenses, you can quickly become an AT that doesn't need any other AT to do anything.

Forum Question

Well, this might not be correct, but it doesn't seem like the cookies are updating correctly. I know that this sometimes happens to me, too, but it has happened less and less recently.

However, if I shut down the Firefox window that I'm in, re-open it, and come back to the boards, sometimes it doesn't remember quite where I've been, and does something similar to what you are experiencing.

How to fix it? I have no idea, but I am kind of interested, myself.

It gives any professional another source from which they can make a decision.
Actually, in my former profession, I wrote EAs and EISs (environmental documents for the government), and we sent them out for comments on them, to try to make them better. WE would first send them to other government agencies, that tended to have an interest in our projects. These comments tended to be quite good. Then, we sent them out for public comment. These comments tended to be quite bad, as the public generally had little knowledge on the subject, put in opinions in place of facts, and, in general, wanted things included that we couldn't possibly include. However, some public comments were good. But when you have to slog through several hundred public comments, and only get one or two useful comments out of it, it's not quite as handy.

This is what is is called the signal to noise ratio. There is a reason that you might want 5 people to review your document, but you probably wouldn't want 500 to review it.

On other side about this idea is it gives the programmers of CoX an unbiased vote base. Yes, they use this forum for ideas, but I have to say, if you post any idea that isn't flashy or full of fun new stuff! It's going to be shot down by every single d***ed critic on this website.
Not true. Good ideas generally get supported here. Ideas that need a lot of work tend to be told so. Ideas that are just bad tend to be shot down. That is the point of these forums. Even items that are full of flashy new stuff can be shot down, if people think that they would make the game worse overall.

Also, there is no unbiased voter base. It just can't be done, unless you take a group of people that are completely unfamiliar with a certain subject. As this is a game, and we'd only be sending it out to people who play the game, our results would come back biased, since all of the voters would have knowledge of the subject, and had formed opinions of the game already.

Quote:
A poll would make it simple. Here's the idea: Now vote on it. No bickering, no discussion. Just straight up numbers. The main point is to get opinions that aren't tainted or shot down by critics or opposers of any idea.
Okay, now here is where your idea gets into real trouble. If the devs present the poll like this:

Would you like feature X in the game?

The general results will always go for including that feature in the game. Every. Single. Time (unless it was a really bad idea). Why? Feedback bias. The people who answer the poll will be those who have the strongest feelings for whatever feature X is, either positive or negative. However, people with strong negative emotions towards it don't always respond negatively, as many just ignore it. However, those with strong positive feelings on it tend to respond. Those with no feelings on it either way tend not to respond.

So you get a situation where whenever the Devs put out a poll, they get told to include it, since that is how the 'majority' vote. However, unless you get responses from the entire CoH community voluntarily, you will have bias in your feedback to a large degree.

Now, if they put out a poll such as this:

We are planning on including one of the following four features in I21. Which would you prefer?

Feature W
Feature X
Feature Y
Feature Z

Then, you tally the votes, and they come in in this order of popularity: Y, W, Z, X. So, the Devs start working on Y. Except, as they work on it, they find that it is not feasible. Uh oh! What do they do now? Well, the work a bit on Feature W, and find that it can be done pretty easily. Except, they've basically told people that Feature Y was the most popular, and that they'd be working on it. Now, they can't, and can only give us Feature W. Well, the people aren't going to like that.
Also, let me stress this point again:

The poll would in no way be binding to the developers. If 95% of voters say they want farming again, the developers could easily say no and move on.
If this is the case, then the polling would be seen as having little overall value. If the Devs, after the poll, can just dismiss the results for any reason, then the poll would be seen by many as inconsequential, and they're voting schemes would then trend towards the most 'fun but crazy' option, if not the one that they wanted the most.

For instance, if you knew that the Devs were going to throw out anything that they didn't really want to do, and we got this question:

Which powerset would you most like to see in I21?

A) Dark Control
B) Psychic Buff/Debuff
C) Laser Blast
D) Carp Melee

I'm betting that you'd get a lot more Carp Melee requests than you otherwise would, simply because we know that they're going to throw it out (the request, not the carp. Who throws out perfectly good carp?). The actual results from the other sets are therefore not an accurate sampling of what the players actually want, since many people voted for Carp Melee instead. So now which one do you, as a Developer, make, since your input isn't good?
13. First off, thread necro'ing is bad, mmmkay?

Secondly, if you want to do this, buy the Science booster pack. As part of it, you can go to the tailors, or facemakers, and go to one of the super tailors, and change your gender.
14. It should work. I know of no reason why it should. The Proc going off should appear in your combat tab, or maybe, just maybe, in the Healing Delivered channel. But it should be done in your combat tab.

I think that, a lot of the time, ParagonStudios is just fishing in the dark when they make updates. Not everybody who plays the game uses the forums, however everybody who plays the game will be a line of text away from voicing their opinion. That sounds like a wider opinion base to me. City of Heroes / Villians is a small community, so ParagonStudios can not afford to make arbitrary decisions that will alienate their customers. Games like WoW and others may be able to get away with it, but due to the small number of subscribers, the voices of the players must be heard for the game's essential survival.

The other list of changes this update would cause are wide, however the large upsides are listed below:
- Wider range of opinions
- Sneak-Peeks to future updates
- Democracy styled governance (more opinions heard)
- Better customer based anchoring (the more content you know is going to be changed, the more likely you will keep playing)
- Increase in player approval. (IE: No messups such as the PvP gimp)
The forums are open to all players. And all players are welcome to post any suggestions that they want for the game here. The Devs have been very open to accepting player feedback and ideas for what they want in the game.

Also, the players might not always vote in their best interest. I'd say that the recent AE experiences are tantamount to that. Being PLed from 1-50 in a few hours might be fun for a while, but pretty quickly, you get bored and stop playing. So, people were doing something that would result in quicker boredom, and hence quicker leaving of CoH. Yet, if people were given the option, I'd bet that they'd vote to be able to do it again. That isn't really in their best interest, long-term.

They might also vote for things that the Devs could not do, then they'd be mad at the Devs for not being able to do them, despite the fact that they tried. They'd get angry at the Devs for not doing what the players wanted. Right now, you might get the same complaints, but there was no indication that the Devs were going to try to get function X into the game at all.

I'd still vote for no. I'd rather the devs work on things that they believe that they can get into the game fairly quickly, rather than work on things that the players have voted on, but can't be done in a timely manner.

This entire forum exists to give the devs ideas to pull from, and a LOT of things in the game as it is right now have come from player suggestions. I'm just not sure how much a poll would help the Devs.

My Ice/Fire tank

It is 51.9%. Wet Ice also contains some, and it's something like 17.3% in each of the three armor toggles. 17.3 for one, 34.6 for two, and 51.9 for three.
18. Send an e-mail to the global name, not the individual character name, and you should be able to attach influence and other items to it.

My Ice/Fire tank

Thanks for taking pity on the poor old guys' eyes. Now, as for possible ways to improve:

1) I would postpone Boxing for a while. If you're not getting Tough until much later in the build, you might as well put off a single-slotted Boxing.

2) In conjunction with 1), there are a number of powers I'd suggest trying to move up in the list, including Wet Ice, Chilling Embrace, and possibly super jump. I would say move Boxing back to level 16, Chilling Embrace up to level 6, and Wet Ice to level 12.

3) Icicles should be moved back after Stamina. It's an end hog, and you won't be running it much for that reason between 18 and 22 anyways, when you can get SOs in Stamina.

4) As to that, I would put Glacial Armor at level 18, and push back Icicles to level 22 or 24, moving the level 22 or 24 power back to 28.

5) Hoarfrost needs to be slotted with Recharge and Heals, much more so than it is in your build. I suggest 5-slotting it with Doctored Wounds. The Steadfast Protection +Def proc is also a bit of a waste there, and could probably go somewhere better. Although, there, it will be of use when exemping. But still, it's only going to be active all the time if you're using Hoarfrost a lot.

6) Energy Absorption: Slot this with IOs to ED-cap Recharge, Defense, and EndMod. Don't slot procs in it unless you have satisfied the previous three areas. You want this up often, to be draining a lot of End, and giving you a lot of Defense at the same time.

7) Since your secondary has no way of dealing with troublesome minions and lieutenants without killing them, I would highly suggest you try to get one of the Ancillary Power Pool holds in your build. Something like Char can help a lot in the later levels.

8) Combat Jumping is vastly overslotted, unless you really want those set bonuses. The Def that CJ provides is very little, and slotting gets you very little in return.

Hope these help a bit!

Not to mention most of his fortune would be gone in the process, as well.

Wow that is tough to read. Any chance you could change the colors? Against the blue hero-side background, it's very tough to see.
22. Aett_Thorn

New Hero here.

First off, welcome to the game!

Secondly, trainers will always appear on your map, if you pull it up. They will be the green (I think) people symbols on the map, just for future reference.

However, Ms. Liberty is right ion front of the giant Atlas statue. If you stand right under the statue, and face away from the building, you'll see her.

It gives 2.275% Def on your Brute, as well as all of your other teammates.
25. Okay, I'm afraid that I'm going to have to say this again: Ice Armor and fury generation was not the ONLY problem with Ice Armor/Ice Melee being ported over to Brutes. There was also the HUGE problem that Ice Melee sucked back then. No true AoE damage. Two powers that were soft controls that hindered fury generation further than the slows did, and very weak single-target attacks. It was just a very bad set back then, [i]especially[/] for brutes. For Tankers, who could utilize the soft controls to perform their function, Brutes really couldn't.

Ice MELEE was the bigger problem. Not the slows or much at all to do with Ice ARMOR.
