Forum Question

So, I have a few threads in my watchlist, and sometimes I'll read the rest of a thread I've started reading already. To go to new posts, I click the little triangle beside the title, which ought to take me to the first new post. However, it seems to work inconsistently, and sometimes I am taken to the previous new post; i.e., the post the triangle took me to the last time I read the thread.

Anyone know what's up with that?

Well, this might not be correct, but it doesn't seem like the cookies are updating correctly. I know that this sometimes happens to me, too, but it has happened less and less recently.

However, if I shut down the Firefox window that I'm in, re-open it, and come back to the boards, sometimes it doesn't remember quite where I've been, and does something similar to what you are experiencing.

How to fix it? I have no idea, but I am kind of interested, myself.

Not sure if this will help, but you could try deleting all cookies related to the boards... Sometimes it works, other times the problem persists (If it persists, It will likely remember the new last read post, and then get stuck on that one). Note that this will remove any "keep me logged in" settings you currently have setup, and will likely make all posts appear unread.

Not sure how to neatly do this in any other browser, but in firefox it's;
Tools > Options > Privacy > Show Cookies > type 'cityof' in the search bar, and delete all cookies from "boards.cityofheroes.com"

vBulletin can just be glitchy like that, is all. I hardly notice because I'm constantly switching between the work and home computers and it's ALWAYS all screwed up for me.

Dec out.

As long as I remember to click "log out" it remembers correctly for me. Otherwise, it sticks to when I logged in (so I don't use "remember me" and just letting it timeout doesn't work either).

Yup. vBB is just a step above the old rUBBish board software. I hope that one day, we'll get an upgrade to IPB. Until then, I never "Remember Me", and always log out when I'm done.

Well, logging out works. The annoyance of actually typing to log in is less than the annoyance of going through lots of posts I've already read to get to the new one - which sometimes isn't even new at all. Thanks!

The "Remember Me" doesn't work properly anyway because of the bodged-in NA/EU selector. All the other cookies have an expiry date of at least a year away, but the authRegion cookie only lasts 18 hours or so. If you come back to the boards the next day you have to log back in again anyway
