Auto-spin must die.
I've been playing a lot of other games since the announcement of COH closing, and I'm sure others have been as well. After going back to COH for a while tonight, this experience has left me ultimately very frustrated with our game.
I'm not sure if it's just my imagination or not, but the camera reverting to the "behind the character" position EVERY TIME a power is executed on my behalf (or on the behalf of any player of the game) has become the HEIGHT of frustration for me. I find myself holding down the right mouse button as often as possible, and becoming completely disoriented every time I let it go to do something else (ie: click a macro, but still pressing an attack in the process) due to a terrible camera view. Now, this isn't a problem on open maps since the auto-route camera tends to still provide a decent amount of visibility... But COH is the king of restrictive and enclosed mission environments, and it becomes borderline unplayable frustration under those conditions. I never remember this being a huge stress factor in the past, but I also didn't play many other games. Maybe I became subliminally and unjustifiably content with this control/camera orientation in COH, but I can tell you that now, for whatever reason, I find it absolutely loathsome. So I guess you can view this as a sort of positive outlook- After COH is gone, we will never have to deal with auto-spin again. |
Stress from playing a game, is no fun. At least in my world.
Yeah havent been playing much either as after playing on that fits better, little niggles I just lived with such as the team oriented content, recycled missions with the ambushes after ambush after ambush after ambush to go along with it, and other little things seem to stand out even more once the other side. It's like having an old 4 door family car thinking it has plenty of pick up and go and does fine then until you drive the new Jag XJ-Supersport family car and learn the true meaning of rapid family transport and then go bad to the old car which just a minutes ago was fine, but now seems sluggish, rattles can be heard that you didnt notice before and etc. So what you do? You trade in that old one and get the Jag XJ-Supersport.

You can disable that in the options somewhere.
Yeah, shutting that "auto-spin" off is one of the first things I do.
It's under Controls, subheading Mouse, change Free Camera Movement from Disabled to Enabled. Voila, no more "auto-spin", and you can play stress-free.
Hehe, I was thinking "this does not happen to me, isn't there a setting? Hmmm..." And now, THB's reason to find a glint of happiness from NCSoft's utter lameness has been ruined.
Yay! The game is great; you're losing it. Boo!

I... did not know that was able to be disabled until just now.
Man. I am *still* learning this game 7+ years into it... I feel dumb for not explorin' for that.
I usually just ensured I wasn't in 'pointer' mode, but in 'Mouselook' mode, and it wouldn't auto spin on me.
But it also never really bothered me much. Oh, every so often, but not much.
Very cool. Thanks for the info!
August 31, 2012. A Day that will Live in Infamy. Or Information. Possibly Influence. Well, Inf, anyway. Thank you, Paragon Studios, for what you did, and the enjoyment and camaraderie you brought.

Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
I knew there was an option to disable it somewhere, as I recall having to *enable* it. I'm not sure how/why it was disabled for me at some point, but I prefer a chase camera unless I'm actively trying to view an animation from a different angle.

honestly this option has never bothered me lol
i think the only thing that i think could have been done better is the vault storage, it was retarded that the storage was per character and would have been insanely helpful if it had been global
Are you sure about this!? Because I've literally combed through the options, looking for a way to get rid of it. This could be a case of "THB is wrong about something," hardly the first time. But I really don't think it's the case- I would love to be proven wrong though.

In comparison GW2 has an incredible storage system, which is not only all account bound, but allows you to auto deposit gatherables/collectables into it from anywhere in the world and auto sorts all of it.

If GW2's storage system also had personal storage space, it might deserve the 'incredible' label.

I always turn this option off in all the games I play.
I LIKE the auto-spin. I've been playing GW2 lately and what drives me APE the most in combat versus multiple opponents is that my constant camera-spinning to maintain battle awareness makes me lose target a lot. It's infuriating in large PvP fights.

QR, I actually don't suffer this problem... there is the option to lock target once you start attacking something (Promote Skill Target), as well as Auto Targetting.
I guess it helps in that I have my G13 setup for easy mob targetting, so even if i do loose lock, i can quickly regain it.
Is what is being described here the phenomenom that when certain powers are used, the hero using it turns for some unknown reason and the perspective swings with them?
If so, alas, seven and a half years and I did not know what the Free Camera business was all about. If not... well, I would ask how to fix THAT, but there is only about a month left...
"How do you know you are on the side of good?" a Paragon citizen asked him. "How can we even know what is 'good'?"
"The Most High has spoken, even with His own blood," Melancton replied. "Surely we know."
