My gut feeling is that we will see a black screen and a 'disconnected from server message' right on schedule.

My hope is that after a second or two it becomes a cutscene showing a sunrise and a website address for the new owners of the game as well as a date.

since we are going binary. in some fashion, yes. in the exact way we know it, no. I am counting cryptic swooping in and grabbing more of the devs to increase the density of their dev base, but only if they land on champions, sto and neverwinter, while possibly good games, are out of genre and as such i cant count them.

No, it will not be saved, and if it is, it'll just be a stagnant server-maintenance style existence with no updates. The game just wasn't that profitable - not enough to warrant an investment on the order that NCSoft would require to license the IP and game.

Doom.

Yep.

This is really doom.

Yes, as a private server but not likely to revive within the year and it won't be the same.

I expect it to look something like this:

4 servers online
200-300 users at peak hours, off hours number in the 40's

Ain't much but I'll take it. I still play the scthack PSO server despite the meager population of 100 or less at peak hours and various other shortcomings...

Why have four servers with a measly load like that?

*shrug*

Why 8 active ships when there are only 43 players?

I couldn't really tell you. I mean, I sincerely hope that it gets saved, but being a realist and looking at the track record of NCSoft, it doesn't look good.

Keep fighting, though, but be prepared for the worst.

This is the unfortunate truth of the matter. It doesnt matter how great the devs are or how many friends you made or whatever other uplifting sentiments you might offer to justify the games existence if more people played and felt the same way we wouldnt be in this situation in the first place.

As bitter a pill as that is to swallow, thats how it is.

Believe me Id dearly love to be wrong but my reply is a heavy hearted "No".

I think that the game as we know it will be gone regardless of how any attempts to save it turn out.

Nope. Put a fork in us, we're done.

No.

Even with "server emulator" being a last straw kinda plan, I think NC Soft is petty enough to reach out and throw a C&D at anything that gets going. We're already on their radar, and the only thing preventing most companies from sending a C&D to protect one of their IPs sooner is their unawareness. We've been loud enough that we don't have that benefit of anonymity when that will be needed.

Thanks for eight fun years, Paragon.

Like Ironblade, I haven't completely given up hope... but I'm enough of a realist to recognize just how heavily stacked against us the odds are, even when it comes to something like a private server or a hack to make the game run as a stand-alone.

So, if I'm being completely honest about it, with a distinct I have to say No. It's done for. Ghost material. Living impared. An EX-game. We're just not ready to admit it yet, kind'a like that guy in the Monty Python movie...

I'm going to change my mind after reading a blog by ThorsAssassin about the dev dinner on Wednesday. Reading between the lines, the mood at Paragon remains positive. What we're doing is working and they're encouraging us to keep at it whilst remaining calm and polite.

So, Yes. Yes I do think the game will be rezzed.

My instinct says no, unless you really lower the threshold on what it means for the game to live on "in some form". I very much hope I'm wrong.

If I were neutral my gut would say "maybe".

But I am a hopeful pessimist.

I honestly think no.

But that hasn't stopped me from hoping.

Having access to the reverse engineering crew, I'm almost certain that it will continue in some fashion. The only questions are details around how, and exactly how much functionality it will have. I'm still hopeful that we won't get to the point where this is our only option, though.

We've been saving Paragon City for eight and a half years. It's time to do it one more time.
(If you love this game as much as I do, please read that post.)

No. Realistically no.

NCSoft will bury it.
I hope not, but believe they will.

Before CoX, I was part of another community for the game Motor City Online.
EA owned it and they killed that game and buried it too.

They now have Need for Speed World, 10 years later, but it looks to be no where near as immersive and fun as MCO was. It was made for a new generation of race enthusiast. Those who race with a joystick. Not interested in that.

If I can play a tri-form warshade I'd be content.
