We are also trying an effort at starting a Steam Group called Paragon HUB for all City of Heroes refugees.

There is also the CoH Alumni group on Facebook.

If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

For the old Union Roleplayers there's this steam group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/UnionRoleplayers

There's also http://www.unionroleplayers.co.uk/bo...?mode=register

I'm sure many more boards will spring up over the coming weeks.

As the organiser of the Unofficial CoH UK Player Meet, I'd really like to continue doing them if people are interested. Although they'll be more a player reunion, so folks can stay in contact and meet up every once in a while. I'll find a way of posting about them somewhere!

Everyone from Paragon Studios will be more than welcome to turn up to one, if they're ever over in England at the time. (That includes the one 8-9th September )

Zwill,

I know this is a long shot and a probably "hell no". But I figured I could at least ask.

Is there any possibility of getting a user-data sanitized backup of the vbulletin forum data? There's 8+ years of post history there, some of them QUITE landmark posts. Everything from Unique_Dragon's "Gone to the Americans" to Sister Flame, to...well. Lots of stuff.

Some of the things are noted in the ParagonWiki. But a static, read-only copy of the forums would be incredible.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

A suggestion (near the red bit near the bottom) for ripping the forum is on http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=295982 but yeah, few people are likely to do that due to the awkwardness of setting it up, I haven't either lol

I'd rather not simply page-crawl the forum to death. There's literally MILLIONS of pages here. That kind of load would bomb the server and make many, may people very angry with you.

A database backup and restore is...relatively...small, easily restored, and there are numerous tools out there for converting it to other forum software. It could then be locked down (made read-only) and left as a long-term archive of the original site.

As someone who branded Unleashed as "Westley's Ego Trip", it became a solid alternative to the 'official' forums when I was playing as a Freemie and could only post a few places here.

I don't venture outside the MMO forum, but it has plenty of good old timers to hang out with.

I think for one of the first times ever in the history of this game the GoonSquad and the rest of this game's community are all on the same page. Our little group of misfits, casuals, power players, and RPers have literally shed tears over this thing. We do not have a "leader" but I can safely be the voice of us all this one time and say this is truly devastating. Want proof? Go to the Something Awful forums, Games, then MMO HMO section. Check our thread devoted to this game. Then read the last few pages of nothing but digital tears.

So implying we don't, or wouldn't, defend this game to it's very core is pretty harsh, even for us with our super thick skins. We love this game, it's developers, and yes....you guys. The bat-guano insane community that makes it happen. Everyone in GoonSquad would have quit long ago if it were for all the people involved in this game. EVERYONE.

We are a very close knit group and we have zero drama within our bunch believe it or not, rumors aside. I can't speak for other game's GoonSquads but our little slice on the internet has been considered the best GoonSquad ever and all of that has to do with the super cool people in it who don't "get" drama. The most drama we ever had was trying to decide if we should abandon our original servers and move to Virtue. Other than that it's all genitalia jokes, the most ridiculous costumes you can make, and number talk. I'm going to miss it.

We've defended this game to the core. We've juggled numbers, discussed upcoming changes to the game, and beta/stress tested everything. We've argued over whether or not something looks terrible or maybe it just isn't to our tastes.

While we are all VERY passionate about the game, we don't crush other member's passions about the game. I'm passionate about the RP aspects, the ability to make AE missions to support the ongoing story of my friends and I in this game. Tommy (above) is passionate about builds, balance, DPS, and mechanic stuff that I come to this game to get away from. Others are passionate about exploring the world, bug-chasing, and base building.

Every Goon I know who plays City of Heroes is passionate about the game. We were all crushed by the thought that we won't be playing together any longer in one of the best MMO's ever.

Zwill wasn't a spy, he was one of us. He fit right in with us, because he cared about the game, and where it was going.

Zwill rocked, and every time I heard he was in Pocket-D, Skrunchie immediately ran off to play with The Magic Clockwork Man.

I've been a member of Unleashed since it began. We're a bunch of personalities that get along most of the time, but don't mind bumping heads either. Lots of user-generated content in the Laboratory, Geek Culture that ranges from MLP to Doctor Who, to Final Fantasy, MMO Discussion, and plenty of other forums that you have to be a registered member to see.

Come and check us out, and see if you'd like to stay a while!

So these forums will go dark? Damn, that's bad news. Is there any possibility of transferring the database to a user-hosted site if someone else will pay the hosting bills? Even just as a back-up?

For those looking for another place to waste your work day, you're welcome to check out Comics Haven. We started as a group of people who played COH and hung out here, but fled to our own forum when Lighthouse started locking things down here.

I don't care if you're a brony, preacher, republican, democrat, ******, circus clown, whatever, you're welcome to give us a shot.

Or not.
