From those of us who've left the game as well, Thank you Melissa for making this game as enjoyable as it was.

I hope you are rapidly hired and recognized for your amazing talents.

I have been both numb and tearful for the last 18 hours on and off. I spent the last part of my evening screencapping my primary muse-like characters (the ones that nudge me to create, the most). It was hard, but it was needed. It's because of you guys that I have this much attachment to my creations. You made that possible with this wonderful game!

And for that? I can not even begin to express how grateful I am for the hard work that you and the crew of Paragon Studios have done. My prayers go out to all of you and my wishes of good luck wherever your paths take you from here and my *HUGS* go to each and every one of you for creating a world in which I felt truly heroic each evening!

Thank you, Paragon Studios. Truly.
*HUGS*

WarWitch,

Because of you, COH wasn't a game, it wasn't a thing; it was a place.

A place where people were encouraged to be their very best -- to be heroes.

A place where I could be awesome and brave and magnanimous and kind to n00bs (because everyone was kind to me when I was a n00b) and silly as hell.

A place where I always felt like it was my duty as a hero and my privilege as a person to exemp down an L50 and kin/tank/whatever for a low-level group.

A place where I could hand a few million influence or a LOTG 7.5% to a complete stranger and never even want anything back because a real hero would do just that.

A place where I could hang out with some of the smartest, sweetest, funniest people I've ever met in my life, night after night for just $15 a month.

A place where I got (get, for 8 more weeks) to be my very best me.

If RL was more like Paragon, it'd be a much, much better place.

I know I'm a better person for having gotten to live in Paragon.

Thank you so much for over 7 years of fun. Thank you devs for, well...everything. But thank you in particular for some of the very best NPC dialogue (and other in-game content) that has ever existed in any game, anywhere. More than once I laughed so loud that I scared my cat...

As much of a gut punch as this was for us players, our livelihoods don't depend on this game. Wishing you as soft a landing as possible.

I have to admit, I read an interview you gave last year, and, hearing about how you started as an office manager and worked your way up to Producer of the Whole Darn Game. I was so jealous. You had the job I've been trying to get for a decade.

It's awesome you got to live the dream with this game for as long as you did, and I hope that you and everyone else from Paragon find another place just as awesome very soon. Hopefully at least some of you will find yourselves working together again. (Heck, who knows? Maybe I'll get really lucky and be working with some of you, too)

I'm going to miss this game and all the people on it a lot. Good luck and farewell for now.

I know that "that long hair and wonderfully sassy attitude" very well.

Melissa,

It really has been a wonderfully adventurous ride and I have thoroughly enjoyed it from start and what I am sure will be a fantastic finish. It's so easy to point fingers and blame and be angry and resentful for the fallout but what is more important is that we created this all from nothing, all of us. You and all the developers gave us the canvas to paint our imaginations on and it was simply magical.

I can't just say 'thank you' and be done with it as it does sound minimal and doesn't convey how I truly feel. This team of developers, community managers and community as a whole is unique and I know that in my small travels I have never experienced the personal touch and the care that you have put into this. I have been here for 8 and a half years and was immersed from start to finish. I cannot express what a joy it has been so without a better word, thank you WARWITCH!

I remember talking with you at the bowling alley the night before the first M&G at Dave and Busters and was immediately taken in by how open you were to Sassy and I. The generosity you showed by sending that Halloween care package and even drawing on the outside of the box for our girls (They still talk about it). I remember posting WARWITCH on the forums knowing that you would read it lol.

I remember traveling through Paragon City and the Rogue Isles and knowing that all the text from the NPC's were from you and cracking up by all the inside jokes. You made it memorable Melissa and I will never forget it. Much love and I hope for nothing but the best for you and the entire Paragon Studios team. I do hope our paths meet again very soon!

All my best,
TA

Thank you for all your hard work. It was a lot of fun to meet you at the final Hero Con and play Apples to Oranges.

As others have said, this is more than just a game to many, many of us. Hell, I met my girl friend through this game.

I hope wherever the Paragon team members land, that the people who hire them truly appreciate the fantastic people joining their teams.

Good fortune, to you and yours. I'm going to go cry some more now.

War Witch,

I was wondering where you were!

There are those of us who gamed with our families, whose grandparents and grandchildren have a special bond no one else can quite match....and all because of Paragon Studios and CoH. It has been part of all our lives for so long (and was the first game three generations of my family ever played together) that I don't know what we'll do now that it's gone.

Thank you, and a big thanks to everyone at Paragon. You will be sorely missed.

I still remember my first flight seven years ago. I just soared around AP for the rest of the night. Thanks so much for all the work you all did to make this game one of a kind. It will be missed!

It wasn't until this news came out, and I started reluctantly looking around the MMO landscape, that I realized just how incredibly unique this game is in so many ways. What you and the rest of the team built here over the past eight years is really a vibrant, living fictional world with countless ways for players to weave themselves into the story. The Clockwork King, the Shadow Shard, the Rikti War, the Midnighter Club, the FBSA departments and their brilliant meshing of superpowered fantasy and everyday office life, Mot and the Banished Pantheon, the Peacebringers and the Nictus, Ouroboros, the Menders and Silos, Cimerora, Portal Corporation, the Circle of Thorns and the Mu and their lost cities, heck, even the much-maligned Well of the Furies... I could go on and on, but no game is ever going to compare to the tapestry this one wove, and how it encouraged players to create any concept, with powers and costumes that could make almost anything they dreamed of work.

Thank you for creating this sprawling, crazy and immersive little world, and for making it so easy for us to become a part of it. I hope everything goes well for you and the rest of the Paragon team, and that we'll get to hear about a new MMO featuring all of you soon.
well said

This is the only MMO that seems interesting to me and 2/3 of the reason is the community here both the players and the dev team I have loved my time here it is where I go atfer I feed the kids and get the laundry going after work and before sleep. It is where i see my friends each week both those I have met in game and tho I know from RL but whom have moved too far away for up to visit with them in RL CoH (champ server has become my living room where i see and BS and kick some *** with the ppl I I love to hang out with, that make me smile even at the end of some really long days. I know friends that have met in game and gotten married in RL and ppl who have traveled across the world to met in rl ppl that have know in CoH for years.
I myself am i hard working mother of 4 and my spouse and I chill with our friends here most nights and have for years I kinda hope to see most of my CoH family in some other MMo in the future (tho atm none of the others seem like a place i fee like going) but at the same time i am sooooo unwilling to let CoH die with out fighting for my city/my home town away from home that i can not really think about what or where i might go after this, so for now i an going to enjoy every min we have left before the servers go down and hope that somehow we ( those that love CoH) find a way to keep our city our home town. and Thank you thank you for all the years and work that has made this such a great game and place to meet up with my friends.

War Witch...thank YOU. All of you. You guys have touched thousands of lives with one glorious project. You've sparked imaginations, created unbreakable bonds, and forged one HELL of a community. Thank you. All of you. Now excuse me, I need to go sob pathetically.

Thanks for posting, War Witch.

You're seeing it now from all of us, but just know that we always felt this way. We always felt lucky to have a team of Devs like you that cared so much and worked so hard.

I don't regret a single dime I spent on this game, nor a single minute and that's because of people like you.

Thank you so, so much.

Thank you War Witch and I've played many MMOs over the years but this remains the only one I've ever seen the developers in game interacting with the players... THAT is one of the major reasons why this game lasted 8 years and why if not for this baffling decision from NCSoft it could go another 8 years! That level of consistent dedication to the community just doesn't happen, and I'm not sure it ever will again (unless it's you guys... I really hope that whatever you all do next you enjoy it as you did City of Heroes!)

War Witch,

You gave us an amazing world to participate in. A place with amazing powers, and incredibly diverse characters. A place where incredible memories could be generated which I will always fondly remember likely even years after the doors have closed for good.

I can't express how much I have admired the Paragon team for what they have accomplished. I actually worked hard in college to develop my skills in programming and game development because I wanted to have the skills I could use to work at Paragon Studios someday. You guys did truly super-heroic levels of work and it shows in the incredible game you made. I loved it so much I worked to try to become a part of it. Hopefully I will in time find my own super-heroic goals to chance as a video game developer.

There is a ton more I wish I could say, but I can't find the right words for it. I have been here since pretty near the beginning, and have been a player in this adventure it seems right up to the end. I am more emotional about the passing of this game than anything I have been in my life. I will miss it all terribly. The players, the devs, the very world itself.

So thank you for this incredible game, and I really hope to hear of other incredible worlds you will get to make. If I am lucky, then perhaps I may still get a chance to work with you in a project. You and your entire team have been a great inspiration to me. (Definitely higher than a tier 3 or super inspiration!)

Thankyou Paragon Studios

Thankyou War Witch for coming and posting a wonderfull piece, im very sad at the announcement of one of the games i have had the pleasure of playing for near on 7 years is coming to an end, ive only ever played one other game as much as this and that was EQ1, its still going, and i wish CoH was still to be going as the time i have and still would like to have in the game has been very special to me.
I have many friends now from playing the game, done alot of things i would never seen me ever doing like traveling over seas to meet these friends and its all due to the community, and friendship from a video game that has been and still has the strongest most passionate community out there.

No other MMO i have played makes me feel that warm when playing Coh, they jsut dont seem to have that magic that CoH brings with it.

I do wish this was not the fate of the game, the fate of teh fantastic devs as we all know you deserve far better then what has happened, its ths suddeness, the shock that i think that has thrown the fan base the game as far as all can tell is doing well, it seems to be flying the flag high for one of the longest running mmo's out there.

I wish you all the best and all the folks at Paragon the best in recovering from this, it so not right that it has to end like this for all involved.

CoH will be missed by many, and hopefully many will have many happy moments, memories of their time in this game i know i do.
