The where will you be going from here thead.
Not playing anything NCSoft supports is for sure. Well..Mass Effect MMO sounds great, but until then I'll be trying out Secret World, wanted to try it out when it went live but didn't want to pay for two p2p...well now that is solved..
Have you tried Dungeon and Dragons Online? It has a decent community and Free to play options and better than most fantasy MMO's, imo.

Though, since it requires no money to begin with, I might give it another look see.
I honestly don't know where I'm going from here. I really do not want to give NCSoft another dime at the moment. But there's precious little good out there. I mean, I carried a Starfleet-issue Type II Phaser Pistol into Baghdad, Iraq as my good-luck piece, and I won't play STO, its so bad. And the RP community (or lack thereof) sucks.
I just don't know. I'm at a loss.
Welp. Tried CO. Managed to make Flea on it.
Still had the Cel-shaded graphics crap. Still find it way too cumbersome and clumsy to be enjoyable D:
Now! This is it! Now is the time to choose! Die and be free of pain or live and fight your sorrow! Now is the time to shape your stories! Your fate is in your hands!
In 2007, I got a lifetime sub to Lord of the Rings Online. It's Tolkien. It's pretty. Landroval is a little like Virtue.
But CoH was my first MMO, and I stayed with it the whole time, from beta, and I will be here until the shutdown.
Live arcs: 517377 and 517381
Virtue: Quickshot. Swiftwind. Aliuneidis. Gizmodeus. Dasher. Fiver. Inuit Acer. Daniel Darke. Cerebral Flame. El Halcon.
Intel Core2Duo 2.4 Ghz 4 GB RAM**NVIDIA Geforce 9600 GT set to 1280 x 1024**Windows Vista 32 bit
Counter-strike 1.6, no more MMOs for me.
I have a lifetime DCUO account but highly doubt I will play it. Highly.
I'm going to CO. It's not City of Heroes. So it's not perfect, but it's better than playing a ******* fantasy game. So until a Mass Effect MMO comes along, or the playerbase does what the community of Earth & Beyond did(reverse engineer the entire game with new code or whatever) and restarts City, I'll be on there.
It's not City. But I'm not hating it, this time around. Might have to do with the vast improvements they've made since the last time I played, might have to do with a lot of my friends moving over. Either way, CO it is, for now. |
I... don't know.
I never played any other MMOs, except a little bit of DDO when it went free. I did the beta for Champions, I guess, but I was unimpressed. My brother plays Champions - he was Hammer-Jack here.
I might do a trial of The Secret World, as a couple of people I know are there. I'll probably try TOR when it goes free.
But my computer is old and creaky. I don't know that it can hack those newer games.
I... don't want this game to go away.

More of The Secret World for me.
As for my weekly duo-ing session with a friend back East, we'll probably start with LOTRO. (I've never tried it but we're both LOTR fans and the price is right.) If LOTRO doesn't work out, maybe SWTOR will be more interesting this time around with someone to duo with. If we get really desperate, I might take him over to WoW. If anyone has better duoing ideas, let me know. Our machines are a little older and he doesn't like big subscriptions.
For myself, if The Secret World doesn't make it, I might actually dust off Age of Conan at some point, I put a lot of time in there and it's fun, especially soloing, and time cards are cheap (it's free but VIP has its benefits). Or finally make some headway in Skyrim. I'd love to get over MMORPGs; WoW (raiding and community) burned me out on them just enough to not enjoy them but not enough to not play them.

Bleh, I REALLY don't want to go to Champions Online
but, ****, I need something to ween me off this before I move on.
And they have earth powers. So at least I can hold onto Seismecca a little bit longer.
Edit: The name Seismecca is taken
oh well >:I
I'll be going to Guild Wars 2, but it's more due to money matters. I don't like NCSoft, but it's a fantasy MMO that's cheaper than other options open to me. I've been missing a bit of fantasy in my life.
For my Superhero fix, well... I would go to Champions, but there's something about that game that depresses me to no end, and I can't truly play a game that makes me feel bad. I have DCUO. As limited as it is, and with basically no RP community, it'll do. I do like my DC comics after all. I also play Mutants and Masterminds, so... yeah. Hopefully that'll get an MMO spoof in the future, so, fingers crossed. |
I play a few other MMOs, but most often go to Star Trek Online. I have fun with it, despite its problems, and I'm a big ol' Trekkie.
If anyone is interested in trying it out when CoH goes dark (or before), feel free to send me a message @Lord_Nightblade and I'll give you the $0.50 tour (parents are visiting through next week, though so I won't be online much). Or you can give a shout in the global channel, CoX (which works across games, so CO players can join as well).
Goodbye, I guess.

I'm heading to CO. It's where my friends are going, and they're taking the entire SG with them. Aside from them I've got numerous other friends in it as well. Funny thing too, I tried it out last night, not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
Even if the character creator places it's options in odd places.
I'm still in teary-eyed denial..
This was my first MMO..I've tried others but I found them all lacking..
I LOVE superheroes and that's why I tried this and fell in love with it the moment I started playing it!
I don't know what I'll do...I'm hearing from you guys CO and DCUO are severly lacking...
SWTOR? I heard they've had a massive dropoff in customers..
The last 2 to 2 1/2 years I haven't been able to play much until now because I needed and had carpal tunnel surgeries on both hands. I promised after this past 2xp weekend I was going to play more...so much for that..
I have a stack of xbox 360 games I've bought and haven't gotten too..maybe a pile of books I've yet to touch...
any suggestions for mmo's?
And, here's the thing...I'm REALLY going to miss all the chat channels!!
I mean is there a place we can all chat online after this is, sadly, over?
-Pogoman, Master of Kick-Fu
-Co-Leader and recruiting officer of the Virtue Honor Guard
- lvl 50 ma/sr scrapper
-Ace O' Diamonds lvl 50 fire/rad controller
and waaaay to many other alts to mention right now
SithRose just messaged me in GW2. She ran Agent Storm and a few others, and the Technocratic Union SG. She's not a VIP right now, and has no way of becoming one obviously, so she can't post directly here. She's playing on the "Sanctum of Rall" Sever, but would love to Guest on Tarnished Coast for RP. Her in-game handle is Sithrose5168, and she's SithRose on Steam. Her husband, @tenaveran is also there as Tenaveran.9364.

I haven't been in-game much so stuff might have been discussed without me, but if the United Underworld has decided to move to CO I guess I could give it another try.
I just hear their chat function sucks since CO is on a merged server or something?
If not, can anyone more familiar with CO explain how their chat function works
since you know, its pretty important for RP
Not going to DCUO or CO at all, way too flimsy in their controls and DCUO is so restrictive. I'm gonna try out The Secret World as alot of my CoH friends are, and I'm gonna try TOR when it goes Free to Play. Any NCSoft game is a no no at the moment, though.
Other than that, I've returned to a land known as Middle Earth, but I'm scared that'll kick the bucket soon, since it seems any MMO can go poof now, no matter what the status.
I know the majority of people are going to either CO or The Secret World, though. It's sad that we're all splitting.
There are no MMOs out there that even remotely interest me so when CoH dies, my MMO playing days are most likely over. I tried CO but it was meh. The other MMO genres don't interest me.
I'm not sure if it's the british part of me, but, regardless of how much rage I have geared towards NCSoft, I paid for Guild Wars 2 many a month ago. I kinda feel obligated to play it.
Still, worth considering it, at least.
You may find a now find a group titled "CoH Survivors" on Facebook, its express purpose is to keep the prodigal sons and daughters of the "City Of" franchise in contact with each other. Join today.
That being said. I'm leading an exodus to DCUO. The game has greatly improved over the last year with several new expansions and new content including an auction house, global chat channels and the like. Feel free to join me. We can keep the spirit of CoH alive, and hopefully make DCUO better in the process. To quote a DC Comics character: "Death is never the end, and lightning ALWAYS strikes twice"
See you in game.
P.S. you may contact me any time on my Facebook as Robert Francis Mader.
This is me
You pay to play. Having fun is ok. Kill Skuls or kill Crey. Hunt at night or in the day. Black or white or shades of grey. Play it your way. We have no say.

The lack of RP on DCUO was probably what turned me away the first time it came out, so knowing there will be some City of Heroes brand RP there is great.
I think on the PC version, there is a variety of options to adjust the chat stuff, but still no overhead bubbles. I had to adjust to that with TOR, I will admit, so i won't mind that much.
I'm already on CO - I've had a free account for a long time. I tried CoH and CO both at the same time - stuck with the winner obviously. But I'm over at CO - dunno if I'll stick around - it's just...not home.
There's a RP group/channel on CO

I will be trying out The Secret World if it ever downloads! 14.6 GB?!
I played SW:TOR for about 3 months and didn't like it. But - that's when I was able to cozy up with CoH. I can see myself going back to SW:TOR when it's free-to-play.
If Transformers Universe ever gets released, I'll try that out prob.
I played Rift some and even though it's too grindy and has all that mid-evil fantasy stuff I don't care for - I did have some good RP during my 30-days. So, I'll be trying that out again.
But mainly I'll be continuing to RP my toons on Formspring and other outlets like fanfiction.net and Virtueverse.

A'KO SMASH!!!
I've been doing some thinking and I think I'll either go with Rift, see if my computer can handle the Secret World or just switch to single-player mode for a while and catch up on some of my Steam games that I got on sale and haven't yet played.
