All manner of arthropod creep me out (especially centipedes - in one apartment I lived in there was a centipede that would come out of nowhere and do a couple of laps around my wall at the same time every night), but I'm generally happy to avoid them rather than destroy them when possible. Despite the fact that they (particularly spiders) seem to want to make my home their home. As long as they keep out of my personal space, I don't mind them, but some of them seem *determined* to invade my personal space. Even then, if I can orchestra a way to transport them outside that's my preference.

The only thing I won't try to usher out is a mosquito. I just flatten those. Blood sucking parasites.

It's hard to do so. A lot of brown recluse bites result from rolling over on one in your sleep, and it bites in self-defense. You probably practically squished it and it was all "NO U" and bit.

That wouldn't surprise me, to be honest. And that made me laugh for some reason.

Darn our attractive warm-bloodedness and enticing habits of sleeping within dark caverns of insulative cloth.

Centipedes should be killed with fire.

They are the one invertebrate I want no part of. Spiders, scorpions, tailless whipscorpions (look em up, they're kinda cool), and bugs in general don't bother me.

Until I get to centipedes. I kill centipedes with extreme prejudice.

SECOND! so much disinformation in this thread.... the spiders are EVIL, i know it, you know it, if you are saying otherwise you are on their side and just trying to get us killed! how's it feel to have sold your soul to the evil spider overlords???? traitors!

i'm gettin all heebie jeebie like.... creepy crawlies all up and down my spine.... better get the shotgun and huddle in the bathtub till this thread blows over and the spiders go away

So you don't play Arachnos, then....

I have a pretty bad fear of spiders, though not arachnaphobia-based...I had it told to me later on, but my father played a trick on my mother when I was a baby and he put a fake rubber tarantula in my crib and my mother, who was doing dishes at the time, came in and saw me and used the one thing she had in hand to dispatch the spider.

It happened to be a huge kitchen knife. And I was awake. So my fear is associated with a bloody great knife coming at me and somehow I remember the fake spider.

I have a lot less issue with spiders now; I even have a very harmless little one up in the corner of my bedroom that is very timid and wouldn't be larger than half a thumbnail. Where possible I'll scoot them on their way and let them be.

ClawsandEffect is right on the money with his advice about tarantulas. The tree spiders down here often come indoors only to seek water or a quiet spot where they don't want to interact with humans at all, and they'll put on a threat display to warn you off, but give them half a chance and they'll run for it. I don't have a problem with that, and I make a point of not providing spaces for them to set up, which is pretty easy to do.

And yeah, Australia does have a large number of venomous creatures, but we're still kicking.....

On the way back from South Africa one of our party members was bitten by a spider. No idea if it was a recluse or what, but after a couple days the bite site had gone from an irritated bump to an irregular area about the size of a small dinner plate and it looked NASTY, as if she'd had acid poured onto her skin. Only Google recluse bite if you have a strong stomach.

When she started screaming in pain one night I simply forced her into the car and took her to the hospital. Took them a long time to figure out what it was. Once they said "spider bite" she remembered a pinch while on the plane, but just thought it was the seatbelt or something.

Any chance ClawsandEffect that you could mail a couple hundred baby tarantulas to NCSoft's offices in Seattle. I'm sure someone could come up with a package that'll open up in their mail room at night to disperse them.

No one without first hand experience ever accepts this as true.
Those with first hand experience will back me 100%.

Ladybugs bite. They bite hard. In a side by side with red (not fire) ants, I'd rather be bitten by the ant. Spring is a bad time of year to be around them. They get snotty and mean.

My first short story (detective fiction) came out in Jan-2012. Other stories and books to follow, I hope. Because of "real writing". COH was a big part of that happening.

I hate you. And I hate Cracked. I also used to love ladybugs but am now deathly scared of them on the off change it might actually be a mother<pancaking> spider.

I now have goosebumps on my hair, thank you very much for that.

I did fact check this, but I accepted you were correct before I did so.

I've never been bitten by one, but I have been bitten by ants.

Some of them do, but many of them have mouth parts that are too small to bite humans. Apparently, there's an Asian variety that's prone to biting people which has been introduced as a "bio-friendly" sort of pest control in relatively recent years that is becoming a household nuisance. But when I was a kid, the ladybugs didn't bite they just flew away home.

Only Mormon ladybugs bite.

You sure you're not confusing them with Japanese beetles?

They look almost identical and hang out in the same places. Easy to confuse them.

No, there really are ladybugs that can bite. Tenzhi pointed out it's an Asian variety.

Technically, though, ladybugs *are* beetles.
