Best secondary for Electric Armor to maximize tankiness?

I have decided to create an Electric armor Tank as my most beastly experiment yet. (Thanks for the replies in that thread). What secondary would go the furthest in adding to Electric Armor toughness? Dark brings a nice heal, although the Buff seems a little wasted. But I could run all 3 leadership toggles, manuevers, and possibly maybe focused accuracy. Dark consumption, Energize, and conserve power would preserve my blue bar nicely.I have just about talked myself into this obviously, but does anybody else have a good/great pairing?

Staff, ma, and titan weapons all offer good +def attacks. they would all complement elec nicely. i always feel like everyone aoe kills stuff around me too much when i play dark melee. You also wont really find many end problems with elec so it makes dark consumption overkill.

Kinetic Melee's damage debuff to add on to your resists plus it has stuns and KD/KB to help layer things out a little.

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

I would say it is situational. On my DM/Elec Brute I use Power Sink more often, but Dark Consumption gives me better returns versus individual targets.

Toughness- Dark Melee (I have one and it is my primary tank). This is a do anything tank but limited on AOE obviously which may not appeal to some.

My second favorite for aoe dmg is Elec/Titan. I really enjoy playing this tank and has some decent mitigation.

Staff is top of the hill most of the time. DM, MA, and Insert Knockdown Set Here (BA, TW, SS, etc) all have strong points, and pair better or worse with different sets.

Staff or MA is going to be the strongest for you depending on exactly how you build and how the IO changes play out. I believe MA will actually work better for you, but I personally prefer how Staff looks and I like the situational utility of the stances. Someone mentioned AoE damage; it's virtually irrelevant on a teamplay tanker. You probably can't and shouldn't really try to outdamage decent Blasters and other AoE specialists on your tanker. You need AoE threat, but you get that from your damage aura and Taunt. On the offensive side your single-target attack chain is significantly more important, for burning down hard targets.

Stone Melee has plenty of disorient and knock downs as well. It's an endurance heavy set pairing with it electric armor negates the endurance issue once you have engergize and powersink.

I would go Staff. The case for staff:

1. +15% Def(Melee,Lethal) in Guarded Spin. That offers a different layer of protection to supplement Electric's resistances.

2. Eye of the Storm's knockdown is additional damage mitigation

3. You have two strong additional defensive options:
3a. In Form of Mind you'll get a recharge buff that will help recharge Energize and Power Sink
3b. In Form of Body you can gain Sky Splitter's +10% Res(all) buff which would stack nicely on Electric Armor.

On top of that, Staff has good AoE out of the box which will help with aggro, and Serpent's Reach, while looked down upon as a low DPA attack, would serve a tanker well as effectively a single target ranged taunt.

My Ele/DM is one of my favorite tanks.

The heal is a nice part of the DPS chain, and helps mitigate anything the resists can't keep up with. You have a lot of end help with the pbaoe's - and can even work in some extra taunt with them.

The pbaoe's lack punch though, and fire mastery fills that in nicely.

City of Heroes was my first MMO, & my favorite computer game.

R.I.P.
Chyll - Bydand - Violynce - Enyrgos - Rylle - Nephryte - Solyd - Fettyr - Hyposhock - Styrling - Beryllos - Rosyc
Horryd - Myriam - Dysquiet - Ghyr
Vanysh - Eldrytch
Inflyct - Mysron - Orphyn - Dysmay - Reapyr - - Wyldeman - Hydeous

I absolutely dislike staff on tanks. I have one with all accolades, incarnates,IOs and still dislike it. It is as frustrating to play as energy melee for me. The forms are neat but honestly don't make up for lack of single target dmg (I know AOE is okay). I would take titan over staff any day of the week. I know we are talking tankiest...but nothing except a developer buff for staff on tanks could ever make me play that toon again. He sits in a parking lot until that happens. YMMV

Stone Melee, slot Fault with 3 Recharge and 3 Accuracy and you're set.

Yes, not optimal, but very very fun.

One of my favorite toons is my Elec/SM tanker. He's also my toughest, and has tanked everything I've tried so far pretty well - Lady Grey, Underground*, STF, and plenty more. For Fault, put in a Force Feedback: Chance for +Rech. Along with Lightning Field and Taunt, nothing is getting aggro away from you. Siesmic Smash has good damage for single hard targets. Also, this combo is fun to watch and play!

The trick is to use Fault and Power Sink aggressively, using Taunt to bring in ranged types or to reinforce aggro during a down moment, and using Stone Fist/Seismic Smash on the hardest target around.

The downside is while you have plenty of AoE aggro and control, you don't have much AoE damage. Tremor is OK and slow - that's all there is to it.

I do have SS/CJ on this toon, and use the fly temp powers when needed.

*Full Disclosure: I did UG once with my Elec/SM early on, and performed only barely passably with the Avatar of Hamidon - but it was the first time I'd ever run UG. I'm going to tank it again soon and expect there to be no issues.

On the slip side, I've only tanked STF once with this toon, and was expecting lots of trouble - but I followed to good advice on buffs/heals, and got Recluse to a corner even while staying on the ground and face-to-face, and held him there by myself while the team trashed the towers and mopped up.

Current primary characters, all on Guardian:
The Amber Fist (Elec/Stone Tanker) | Pixelbeater (Fire/Kin Corr) | The Sequencer (Bots/Traps MM)
Blakkat (Claws/Dark Brute) | Mhogus'thra (Ill/Dark Cont) | Wyldhunt (Beast/Dark MM)

Another vote for Stone Melee.

They ALL float down here. When you're down here with us, you'll float too!

Yeah Stone could have a good play with electric. DM is still my first pick for doing the impossible but Stone does have that, "I am the Tank now Kneel before me" feel to it...and if you don't kneel I will bounce you around like a childs toy

The two aoe knockdowns makes it the best 'tanking' secondary in my opinion. I also think it has great synergy with Electric in particular though. Elec provides +recharge, end recovery, and aoe damage, all things Stone needs, while Stone brings loads of mitigation, along with heavy ST damage for hard targets.

Knockdown is nice (I have an Ice/Stone tank) but it still leaves you open to ranged opponents who have little inclination to come close or don't get knocked down (e.g. Rikti Drones). Being able to repeatedly snatch life from targets via Siphon Life is never a bad thing.

Which is why Stone also gets a Mag 4 hold and a heavy hitting ranged attack with -Fly. Although I can't see Rikti drones really posing any kind of danger to an electric tank with capped energy resists.

DM certainly offers the most survivability of the secondary sets, but I don't think it's anywhere as good as Stone as a 'tanking' set.

If you are alive you can grab aggro. To a certain extent, suvivability == tanking.

There are of course instances where that isn't true.
