To the OP. Be more creative. You don't even have to venture into other languages unless it fits your theme.

Here's a free tool to help you come up with cool names

http://thesaurus.com/

I'm not as overboard as Memphis Bill is, but I have nearly 100 characters and each of them has a unique name. My advice is to think harder and be more creative than the guy that stole "IRONingboardMAN" from "you" (who thought of it first? OH YEAH the guy that all ready has it.)

as a confirmed alt-o-holic I haven't found this to be the case, mostly because I don't get the urge to make alts that are similar to characters I already have.

A handful of recent-ish alts in no particular order:

Cathode Ray, beam rifle/rad corrupter
Scab Factory, mace/stone brute
Shame Spiral, time/psy controller
SilverRage, street justice/shield brute
Head Fearleader, db/wp stalker
Plasma Noir, dark/dark dominator
Dopplegangster, thugs/time mastermind

There are more, but these are the ones I've played a bit.
All came to me in a flash, got the names first try on either Freedom or Virtue.

I just don't understand "there are no names!" complaints.
I've never had any problems getting ones I liked, and the few times I've had to re-try I ended up coming up with a better one anyway.

Wrong. i mentioned a single aspect that tends to be overlooked in previous discussions of this topic. That is not going into the many, many, many other points on the con side that come up every time. (Not that i necessarily agree with all of the opinions that come up, which is beside the point since i in fact didn't do what you seem to believe i did.)

i quoted and read your post in its entirety. It's not like there was much there.

That another game uses a character+global naming system is irrelevant to the ease of implementing it here. That game was coded from before beta to work that way.

Edit: Just to clarify, i wasn't saying i wasn't going to reply to your assertion, i meant that i wasn't going to list all the objections that are raised in opposition whenever anyone proposes switching to a local+global naming scheme. There's at least a dozen or so that come up every time that i didn't go into at all.

On a whim, I created a new character that I wanted to call 'Enterprise', or 'Excelsior' even though I knew those might eventually get genericed. I didn't know what else to call Captain Kirk's only true love... Until I mentioned 'NC-1700' to a friend and the rest is History! 'Starship NC 17' is now going where everyone has gone before, seeking out new things and going 'pew-pew-pew!!' at them... while nearly naked.

With creativity and good humor new names are everywhere! Don't settle for old names, they've all been used and abused and gotten dirty. Instead, make a new name for yourself!

Be Well!

So's XXX but that's successfully been used as a name for a super spy in at least two movies that I can think of. (maybe even three or four if that vague feeling I'm getting is correct)

Since he says the toon is running around "nearly naked"...I kinda think that was the point...

And used to be used as an indication for a very strong alcoholic beverage which gave rise to it's use as a film rating to indicate very explicit or the most explicit fims. And in radio communication it has been used as a signal for an urgent message but less urgent than SOS.

Is it sometimes a bit harder for me to get a name now then when the game first came out? Sure. Do I think we need a name free-up? Only if, as others have said, it's just from banned accounts. Do we need a name wipe? No, not at all.

So I have to put more effort into naming characters. That usually makes them better in the end.

For someone who enjoys getting pun names, I recently rolled up "Sands of Moo", a KM/Dark Brute. While it may not be a great name to others, I find it a very fun one.

Actually X used to be a real film rating.

Triple-X was never a film rating. It was a marketing gimmick.

A long deleted toon that I had was a dark/regen named "Sands of Mew." Had Sands, Shadow Maul, and Flurry. It was a "cat" character and of course everyone wanted to know why it wasn't a claws scrapper "sigh"

Anyone know if they're working on a way to improve this? It's getting very limited for creations and imagination. Alot of us are already using capital I as lowercase L to bypass this.

Makes sense if they don't use the same film rating system where he's from.

Where to find me after the end:
The Secret World - Arcadia - Shinzo
Rift - Faeblight - Bloodspeaker
LotRO - Gladden - Aranelion
STO - Holodeck - @Captain_Thiraas

Obviously, I don't care about NCSoft's forum rules, now.

I think he's from Texas. How different is their film rating system?

I thought the Texas film rating* system was this:

Stuff with guns and explosions.

Stuff they don't watch.

With some time limit - there have been bans that were reversed due to errors and situations not the account owners fault.

Well, to start, Texas did have a certain political organization release a mission statement saying they are against teaching Critical Thinking skills...

After four pages of reading, I haven't seen this question answered: what the heck is a dead realm?

Is he talking about the under populated servers? If so, why would those servers get blamed for the problem? I would tend think the more active servers would also have a higher number of names in use among both active and inactive accounts. Seems like they'd free up a lot more names with a sweep of Freedom than Pinnacle. (Not that I agree any servers need to get swept for names)
