I had Hidden Depths for ages and ages as an energy blaster pretending to be a water blaster, so I just rerolled her.

I also discovered 'Seacow' wasn't taken, so now I have a big blue minotaur.

I also have 'Flower Grrl' for a nature/water def.

Water Nymph/Nayade; Malevolent water elemental with shapes from cute aqua girl to ravaneous sea creature.

I often use first and last names in this. Always works fine.

Valeria or Valéria is a female given name dating back to the Latin verb valere, meaning "to be healthy" or "to be strong".

Undines (Latin: Unda — a wave), also called ondines, are elementals, enumerated as the water elementals in works of alchemy by Paracelsus.[1] They also appear in European folklore as fairy-like creatures; the name may be used interchangeably with those of other water spirits.

Valeria Undine - Water/Cold Corr.
(I had her for almost a year as Ice/Energy Dominator pretending to be a water blaster. So this was an obvious re-roll.)

- The Italian Job: The Godfather Returns #1151
Beginner - Encounter a renewed age for the Mook and the Family when Emile Marcone escapes from the Zig!
- Along Came a... Bug!? #528482
Average - A new race of aliens arrives on Earth. And Vanguard has you investigate them!
- The Court of the Blood Countess: The Rise of the Blood Countess #3805
Advanced - Go back in time and witness the birth of a vampire. Follow her to key moments in her life in order to stop her! A story of intrigue, drama and horror! Blood & Violence... not recommend to solo!

Why does a character with water powers have to have a synonym or metaphor for "water" in their name?

No reason other than to suit the topic 'clever/cliche Water Blaster names'...

There are only three alternatives. It thinks were either a threat, food, or a mate. Its gonna either kill us, eat us, or hump us.

The water/kin corruptor I made on Virtue tonight I named Velvette, which I was totally flabbergasted to get. I couldn't get any of the water-themed names I wanted so I just threw a name at it that I had been pondering for a while. Now I'll have to think for a while and come up with a better costume/concept for "Velvette".

It's not just this thread, though. Pretty much every time I've heard people bring up Water Blast, it's come with creative names for it, like Golden Shower or Crimson Discharge or I. P. Freely or something. I'm starting to suspect I don't get the zeal for Water Blast because it has to do with the camp of character names like the ones here.

Again, I'm not saying water-based Water Blast character names are bad, I just wonder why they're so popular that I see them across a multitude of fan sites and forums.

Maybe you just don't realize how common it is for characters to be named after their power sets, Sam. (Or what their power sets are supposed to be according to the player, if the power set doesn't exist/is being altered from the game's "intended concept", such as recoloring water blast to be blood/poison/whatever.)

Well, I sometimes do it because I consider the name part of the costume. When powers start flying all over the screen, it helps keep track over who is responsible for what and thus whose costume it goes with. In other words, it aids immediate readability in a fast paced environment.

Plus, it seems like a lot of comic heroes are named for their powers more or less directly (Rogue, Iceman, the Human Torch, Multiple Man, Aqua Man, etc. "Strong Guy" embraces the concept rather directly.).

Quite possibly. I don't have a very good view of comic books, but the characters I do know seem to have names that, while descriptive, aren't exactly metaphors for their direct powers. Superman, for instance, is pretty generic but he's old so we can skip that one. Batman, similarly, has the theme of a bat, but not the powers of a bat. Marvel's Cyclops has a name which refers to his eyes, not necessarily to his powers. Wolverine, similarly, has the fighting style of a wolverine but not necessarily the powers of one. Gambit's name has nothing at all to do with his powers, which are "make things explode, nor do Rogue's powers have much to do with her name. We have Bishop - a mutant able to absorb and redirect energy, who's named after a religious rank. We have Shard, who I don't even know what her powers are.

Sure, we have people like Spider-Man who has the powers of a spider, Magneto who has the powers of magnetism, Storm who has control over storms and so forth. But for every Cyborg and Beastboy we have a Raven and Robin, is what I'm saying. It's why I don't have a good idea of how common the names are. Are they more common in this game?

I have Archerfish and 'The Liquid Plumber', who is a shiny guy in overalls, not a drain-clearing product with no 'b'.

I don't have a water blaster yet, but I thought Wet Willy would be a funny name.

@Sam, I usually name my characters based on their powers, because it allows more freedom for the costume if I ever decide to change it. If the name is based on the costume, I'm more restricted to certain parts of the costume. Like my name comes from my first character on this account, Surging referencing his Electricity Manipulation, and Starfall referencing Dual Pistols which have bullets, that shoot, which references shooting stars. He will always be able to do those things, no matter who or what he looks like.
