Epaulets (What should we do about them?)
I think we should put them on our feet and call them piedots.
As the Phalanx TFs get revamped, it becomes less of a problem - although I'd like to see a whole costume attached to them, with each TF unlocking a part of it - boots, gloves, top, bottom, belt and mask for the 6, and a cape as a bonus for completing all 6.

The Taskforce Commander Accolade and the Epaulets costume pieces were added in Issue 7.
That was in June 2006.
6 years old, not 7.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.
Black Pebble is my new hero.
You can also get them by collecting Invader and switching sides. That's a heck of a lot better than six Task Forces.

Doesn't everyone get Task Force Commander on all their characters?
I suppose there's a reason why for any given task force I know when the next hunt happens, in what zone, and in what zone the mission after that will be. ^_^

I really have to sort of be in a mood for one, because I've probably either never run it before or only did so once before, and that one time and this time too will invariably be a speed-run with little direction or help (I recall once getting about two rooms into a very large map on one before MISSION COMPLETED! came up, they had rushed far far ahead). I like to feel I'm contributing.

Then again, with Freedom, I suppose you always could register a second account and just PL yourself to grab them. lol.
I hope Synapse's TF is the next up for a revamp. That one is painfully full of copypasted missions done in triplicate--and having to make sure you don't miss the tiniest gear or you'll have to run around to scour the map again to catch the one you missed. Psyche's TF was less arduous, but with Psyche gone I guess they had to prioritize.

Manticore and Citadel aren't much better -- although at least Manticore has some variety in enemy groups, but it's still a slog.

Solution; unlock them from character creation. Having the BASIC level of a costume piece locked behind an accolade is bloody stupid, always has been and always will be until it's changed to something less obnoxious.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

I'm a big fan of TF's that give you a stupid hat. You can't go wrong with a TF that gives you exp., badges, merits AND a stupid hat!
(Someone once said my ITF-gained Roman helmet with the feathers going side-to-side looked like I had a push broom on my head. It's pure win, I tell you!)

Sadly this seems like one of those old-game design choices that has somehow lasted into the future and will never be touched.

No. That's stupid reasoning. Oh, and Villains can't get them AT ALL unless they side switch. Which is, oh look, time consuming and a faff. For one costume piece.
Hell, stick them on the damn store, since I see that as a more likely outcome. I would honestly pay cash for the convenience of NOT having to do those frelling TFs for one piece that I would like to use without massive faff...

Yeah, sure....ONE TF, maybe. But ALL the FP TFs, some of which are still incredibly dull, time-consuming and, hm....not fun?

Did you know if you do all the Freedom Phalanx TFs, you can get a special shoulder piece called Epaulets?
If you didn't, it wouldn't exactly shock me too much, this one shoulder piece seems to be the most heavily barred costume piece in the game, unlocking only per-character, only narrowly avoiding being a hero exclusive (alongside the witch's hat), and requiring the completion of six TFs to unlock. With these costume pieces, I believe actually being seven years old, it would seem to me something probably should be done about them.
Well, in this thread maybe we can discuss just that. Should it be left alone as the ultimate achievement? Should we change it in some way? And how can we make it possible for pure villains to get it? Would it be possible to get the devs to agree with any change we would want? Well, let's just find out.
To open the floor and start the bid low, I would like to propose maybe either opening this up as costume pieces you can buy for empyrean and/or astral merits, making the unlock account wide, and/or putting them up in the paragon market in some way. And yes, I do see the barring of these pieces to be a problem.
Edit: 6 years ago, it was added six, pardon me.
