Question regarding LFG from returning player

Hey all,

I just had a quick question...I have played COH/COV since beta...I had to quit several months ago to moving/new job/new baby and at the moment I am working a late shift where I don't get home until midnight CST...so my question is this: on a highly populated server (I'll just say freedom for example), does the LFG tool actually work? I want to return to playing but my main concern is being able to find any form of groups during the week. Only reason I ask is I have read a few posts off and on about how the tool isn't working as intended.

Thanks for any responses!

It "works" in theory but not really in practice because everyone pretty much pre-forms their team then queues through LFG (and for TFs with existing contacts, many may still form the classic way). If a team pre-forms, isn't full and isn't locked, you can queue into it by joining an In Progress event, but good luck with that.

Your best bet is to find the busiest global channels on your server, that's where teams will be forming. There is also a LFG chat channel (independent of the LFG tool, it just shares the same name) where teams will form.

I've had it work for me at night.

Also, try Justice, IIRC, that would put you about Aussie/Kiwi prime time.

I find it works best for things with small teams that are run frequently -- epecially 4 person team stuff like the Summer thing going on now, but sometimes it can work with things like DFB, though the problem is if you get grouped with others trying to join via the LFG tool, you'll probably wind up on a team of 4 for an 8-person event (DFB), but you might get lucky and join a team with 6 or 7 that decided to queue and see if the last 1-2 people were added via LFG.

Also can work for iTrial stuff if you happen to know one is queuing with room for more, but otherwise you could be standing around for hours waiting for that Lambda to form, or whatever. ^_^

To be fair - the DFB only requires 4

And for badges it's best run with four.

Yes, that's why you will wind up with 4. But many, if not most, people run it for fast xp, so you'll be lucky to join a random team of 4 that all agree to go for the badges and not worry about the lesser experience. Often instead you'll have people quit immediately when the only see 3 other teammates.

If you're joining the LFG queue, make sure you join the widest possible list. Join "First Available..." on the first tab, I think, not a specific TF or even first TF or similar. First anything, period. Then go about your business. You can now do missions and what not while in the queue. So you loose nothing by joining it while solo.

As mentioned, probably the best way to get teams is to join the active global channels on your sever, and to also monitor Help and LFG (the channel, not the queue). People are used to using those, so that's where most of the people are.

I'm still crossing my fingers about the cross server teaming thing.

Personally I don't use the team-up teleporter. I prefer joining a team for something in particular if I happen to be in the right zone or monitoring the chat channels.

When all the task forces and stuff was added to it (such as Positron part 1 and 2, Terra Volta respec trials, etc.) I qued for 1, don't remember which, and about 2 hours later I was in Atlas and decided to join a DFB team. I couldn't join the team because I was still qued for a trial and I had completely forgot about it.

People prefer to form teams first and then que and usually they form full teams of the max amount of players so using the LFG to join something doesn't really work out well. Heck, it's even hard to enter DFB, even choosing to join an in-progress trial, unless you join a team first.

Disclaimer: Just my observations and personal experience. Your experience may differ.

I love the Team Up Teleporter personally. Last night I decided to give it a shot. I logged on with a character I wanted to run the Summer Blockbuster Event with, joined the Queue and went to my SG base to do some inventing. A couple of minutes later the prompt to join and event popped up and I went and ran the missions. I did not have to worry about zoning and joining a team, we had both hero and villain on our team, it was an all around more convenient experience. I do not understand why everyone does not do this.

Well I meant for regular task forces and trials I don't que for. I always que for the holiday trials because I can usually get in fast.

Edit: I was able to do the summer event trial via the LFG teleporter on my Praetorians So nice they included us non-hero/villains in the event.

"Queue".

"que" is something different.

I'm not even sure what that is..... But yeah, it's not 'line' to get into a show, or event, or on the bus, etc...

However. Yes, the LFG works perfectly. Some servers might be slower, some faster. On a busy server, I'd imagine you're fine. I spend most time on Justice (often rated as the #3 server after the big 2) and Exalted, which has a fairly vibrant population but not near the top... I avoid joining trials that can only be accessed via the LFG except through hopping into the queue. I hop in the queue, and then go do missions till something kicks off. I figure my playtime is limited, and I'm paying a flat fee per month to play. If I spend time sitting about with my thumb in, while people recruit, when I don't have to, when I could be at least running some solo missions, I got nobody but myself to blame... So I don't.

I try to not be too restrictive, as others have said. Don't be too picky for a specific iTrial, for sure. But small, and lower level trials go more often. If it's a thing that can't be directly entered via the LFG tool, though, I'd recruit the old fashioned way.. Have never had success getting into a sig TF via the LFG tool, for example.

But for DfB, DiB, special seasonal event, and iTrials, the LFG tool works wonderfully, even since they allowed you to be in missions and still be in the queue. At least on the busier servers. AS a previous poster said, I hope they can make the LFG cross server, because that will help the smaller servers a ton, and the larger ones, too. Win/win/win.

Well it is actually pretty good for TF's since it teleports everyone to the contact than team leader can invite more people or start TF immediatly but I hardly see this is used for two reasons either people don't know how it is work and just form in a global channel or in zone or since it requires all teammates (those who were in a team and team leader puts on queue, not the team that was formed for TF) in the same zone to get in queue for an event they don't bother with it.

The new lfg channel, on the other hand is quite useful and is an excellent way to find a team, especially if you want to form one. The entire server is on it together, unlike traditional channels.

Actually, people want to run it at 7 or 8 because then the end of each level is an AV, who drops an SO for everyone on the team, whereas 4-6 they're an EB who don't.

An SO? Really? Who cares about that? I delete those all the time. That's trash basically.

They can be a nice boost for a little bit.

I did DFB with four and got SOs from all of the AVs, no EBs in sight. I didn't check the difficulty setting but I'm pretty sure the LFG ignores that.

SOs are nice if it's being run by the levels DFB was meant for - i.e., below 20, when normally you can't get SOs at all.

Seconded, I think adding those in was a wise move, I can tell a difference in my early toons' performance.
